Mainly, I thought this place was not sanitary. There was food stuck on the table, greasy plastic squirt bottles, and wet plates which could mean dishes were not washed in sanitized hot water. The bathrooms were not clean and run down. The food portions were plenty but tasteless. I made two simple reasonable requests which neither were carried out. Prices were reasonable though. I expected better after reading previous reviews.

I've been going to this restaurant for at least 15 years. They have a small staff, and there is usually one girl who waits on tables, greet people at the door, and takes the money at the register when you pay your check.
When you come in the door, there is a line of booths on your left, a line of booths against the wall on your right, and tables in the middle of the floor. In the middle of the room toward the back, there is a bar area and they serve alcohol. There is a TV over the bar, and most of the time when I've gone in there for food, the television is on, and there is no music. The decor is simple, but the place is always very clean.
I have a lot of favorite dishes here, and was glad when they added the sweet and sour pressed duck to the menu. They have package deals for meals for two and meals for four, an incredible value for what you get. Their pricing is more than fair.
The food sometimes takes a while to come out of the kitchen, but the wait is always worth it. It comes steaming hot, fresh and delicious. If you're in a hurry, tell your server, otherwise, you'll probably have to wait a bit.
The egg drop soup is outstanding.
They not only have tables and booths, but take carry out orders and even do deliveries, if you don't feel like going out. Those containers hold the food well, don't spill in transit, and when they give you your carry out, they give it to you in a sturdy, strong bag with handles on it.
We have had the food delivered many times, and it comes surprisingly fast, and hot.
The girl that serves the patrons has a thick accent, but understands English well enough to get the orders right, and right EVERY TIME. We have never had an order taken wrong in all these years.
There was a point that they closed and had the tables and chairs outside - turns out they took a few weeks to spruce the place up and do a deep cleaning. I was worried they'd gone out of business, but before long, the "open" sign was in the window again.
They are respectful of their customers and do a great job, the food is really good, and I highly recommend it.
The place to go for massive portions of ultra fresh Chinese comfort food. The existence of this restaurant just makes it seem irrational to cook, as I'd probably need to spend 5X as much time and twice as much money making the same amount of food myself. Nothing fancy to the decor, but it's nice and clean.
I almost always order the pan fried noodles with vegetables and fried tofu (extra $2). It is always fantastic. I've never had spoiled tofu here. And unlike some restaurants where most of the veggies are canned (ugh Lao Hunan), the veggies are always fresh. They use a slightly different mix than the usual, which often includes white button mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, bean sprouts, and snap peas.
The soups are super hearty (see pics) and cheap at a little over $2. They have $3 cocktails and wine on offer. Try the plum wine if you like sweet wines.
I love the owners, Jenny and John. They're always upbeat and smiling. We'd come here every week if it were closer!
I don't know what it is, but the last four times we have ordered from here, it has been less than subpar :(
First of all, NEVER believe them when they say it will be 45 minutes. Â It will be at LEAST an hour, likely more.
Their recipes change from each time you order to the next, so if you order hot and sour soup, don't expect it to be the same each time. Â My husband has gotten burned by this a few times now, poor guy. Â
I mean, their food is good, but if you don't really know WHAT you're going to get, is it really worth it?

Well I let the other good reviews sway me in to trying some place new....I did it so you will not have too! Everything we had was Meh! nothing horrible but nothing good either. Way too much cornstarch in everything, and very very bland! Â This is Old people Chinese Food, even the egg rolls were sub par, and I laughed when I read the review of someone complaining that there was too much crab in the Rangoon. But I now agree with it, there was no cream cheese just imitation fishy tasting crab? ...yes they are as bad as they sound. Â The saving grace was I kinda liked the bbq pork chow mien with real pan fired noodles.,,,Be Warned! Pluse as some other the others mentioned dont expect allot of information when you ca;ll, no total no time , had to call back to give our cc number since they hung up after we ordered.
Review Source:New Hong Kong is my all-time favorite chinese restaurant in the midwest. Â I started going here when I lived in Streamwood and I've since moved away but still drive over an hour when I'm hungry for chinese food and only the best will do. Â I wish I could still eat here twice a week like I used to.
The decor here couldn't get more basic.. it looks like the restaurant hasn't been updated much in 20 years and won't impress anyone. Â But I'd go just about anywhere for food like this. Â Both the food and the owner's smile are truly memorable and you just can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Â
Also, NHK is the best lunchtime place in the area - for just $5 you get lots of delicious food, and it comes out hot and fast!
Worst customer service. The man that took the order was so rude and didnt even tell me what my total was or when my food would be delivered. After an hour I called to check the status and very nicely asked and the women just picked up said " it's on the way" and hung up. what a bunch of jerks.
Review Source:This place is the epitome of a hidden gem. It may look a little shady from the outside, but...the food. Oh my goodness. Â My cousin introduced me to this place awhile back, and since then we've had Chow Fundays every time either one of us gets this intense craving for their amazing noodles. Which is pretty often. We usually start off with the eggrolls --perfectly fried and stuffed with delicious goodness. Then of course we order beef and shrimp chow fun with extra crispy noodles. I can't even explain how good they are. Just try it. I want some right now.
Review Source:I had to revise my review of New Hong Kong, and give it a full FIVE stars. I couldn't hold back a star just because I'm not crazy about their crab ragoons, which are GOOD... just different than the ones I'm used to. (I like mine creamy - these have a lot of crab chunks, which most crab fans would probably love.)
Review Source:Small no frills establishment. Â Food is reasonably priced. Â I particularly like the Chow Fun, wide noodles with beef and asian broccoli. The fried rice is good and the wonton soup is above average. Â Most places have two wontons in some broth but the addition of strips of barbeque pork and crunchy vegetables on top makes it awesome. Â Always had prompt service and hot tea included is a bonus. The lunch specials are great and you never leave hungry. Â Wish they were open Mondays! Â Not fine dining but lots of food for the money.

Hole-in-the-wall Chinese food place, don't go here to impress your date, go here to get great food at a great price and lots of it.
I recommend the egg-drop soup (it's more broth-y than many eggdrops -- they don't use any or as much corn starch), wonton soup, Liu's Special with Chow Fun, Schezwan Chicken with Chow Fun, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce with Chow Fun and Sweet and Sour Chicken with fried rice.
