Excellent cheeses and cured meats! Wine choices left a lot to be desired and too many tables made it crowded but cozy. A little slow on the service. Also, Wait staff seemed confused about telling newbies whether to just grab a table or wait to be seated. With  a little work, this place could be great!
Review Source:The North Point - a Review in Three Parts.
I.
Dear Diary,
Tonight we went to the North Point, a newish restaurant in mid-town Portland, located on Silver Street. The art was inspiring, cascading down the walls in contrasts of photographs and paintings, and the lighting was exceptionally tasteful, the sort of illumination that perfectly combines shadow and color, creating a mixture of mystery. The menu was a concoction of tasting plates, flatbreads, cheeses, and crepes, the wine list was extensive without being intimidating (particularly because Monday night offers full bottles at half the price), and local draft beer was listed in plain print on the front of a pint glass. We imbibed of cider and Baxter beer, liberally.
We ordered a trifecta of cheeses: brie, a sharp, local cheddar, and au poivre. These arrived arranged in an inviting interplay with bread, jam, and fruit, and disappeared nearly as quickly, wordlessly, with only slight, pre-human utterances of pleasure and, ultimately, disappointment at their disappearance. Just as the disappointment threatened to settle into something more permanent, our salads arrived, a gorgeous Caprese, a testament to its genus, and the North Point Nicoise, the vegetation engaged in its necessary battle with salted tuna, egg, and cheese. The Caprese, in particular, was excellent, the perfect amount of a sweet balsamic with a flavor suggestive of the first salads created on the island Capri: simple, colorful, tasteful.
II.
"Wow, your stuffed flatbread looks pretty good..."
"Yours does too!"
"It's a little bit bigger than I thought it was going to be. I'm stuffed from those cheeses."
"I'm just right."
"Wow, this is really good -- you should try it. I love the way the mushroom tastes with the feta and blueberries."
"You should try this! Anything with goat cheese is amazing, especially when paired with sweet potatoes and candied walnuts."
"The bread is really crispy and thin. I think it's raining out there."
"I like that I can eat it with my hands."
"That's pretty cool! Usually I eat with my mouth. As an aside, there's no way I can touch dessert."
"I know, it's going to be hard..."
"Back to beets, I wish I had tried that beet soup before I got too full."
III.
Forced upon us by the owner of the establishment, a plate of three small, thin crepes were placed on our table. Filled with a warm mixture of raspberry and Nutella, and pressed firmly against the porcelain, their arrival coincided with the sudden creation of "extra room" in our stomachs. One of us, carrying two x chromosomes, had suggested that we add the marshmallow option to the filling, but any regret was quickly eliminated with the first taste. (An outside observer, at this point, might suggest that the two diners -- ostensibly lovers out on a date -- began, at this very moment, that most delicate of positioning: ensuring at least half of the dessert would be theirs, and if possible, a greater portion, perhaps even two thirds of the total bounty, a delusional, insidious hope, precisely mirrored in the eyes of their dining companion.) The crepes were gone nearly as soon as they arrived. A small rain fell on the cobblestones outside, a pair of paint-splattered jeans hanging on the wall suggested something more nostalgic and necessary than even the consumption of food, and complaints, found roving in packs elsewhere in the city, were nowhere to be seen.
If there is one restaurant that can awake me from my 3 year hibernation from Yelp and whole-heartedly deserve 5 stars, it is the North Point. Â I have been here 3 times for lunch in the past two months and each time I cannot resist the cheese selection! Â I adore cheese and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw they served my two favorite, Wensleydale with Cranberries and my holy grail - halloumi! Â The halloumi pairs very well with the sweet fig jam served along with a few crostinis and apple slices. Â My only complaint is you must order a minimum of three meats and/or cheeses and some days I wish I could just have a slice of cheese with their delish Arugula and Parmesan Salad. Â
I adore this restaurant with the exposed brick, the unique art work and the massive picture windows. Â The tables are close together which provides a cozy and warm atmosphere. Â A friend suggested their sweet potato flatbread, which I intend on ordering on my next visit in the very near future!
Good food. Went here for lunch with a buddy of mine on a Sunday. I had the grilled cheese sandwich and he had the special of the day - quiche. It was freaking awesome. We started off with some iced coffee, and damn that was good. Wasn't too large and on a hot summer day, you can easily go through 3 of those $3 suckers. Still, it was damn delicious and even came with a side of warm milk!
Our only complaint, which is more of a request, is that they have sides. The sides that came with our dishes were extremely small. An option, to pay for of course, for additional sides would be greatly appreciated.
Would definitely go back again.
Went here on a warm summer night and sat at an outdoor table. Great atmosphere in and outside. DELICIOUS cocktails. started with the raspberry mojito, which was a little sweet (but not overly sweet) and my friend got the regular one that was equally delicious. I also got the maine wild blueberry, which was also sweet, but strong. Ended with the cucumber gin martini which was my favorite. VERY cucumber-y, with a little basil aftertaste - super unique and delicious. To eat, I got the Wild Mushroom & Pork Paté, which was very well made. served with pears - a really nice combination with the crispy baguette.
Review Source:My 53rd birthday and my wife and I found The North Point after a day at the beach and a really nice lunch. The Ambiance and cocktails are excellent  and Noah one of the owners and a fellow New Yorker was a gracious host and a very talented bar tender. We will definitely be back and highly recommend The North Point to anyone looking for a great laid back and fun place to have a drink and some food.
Review Source:Great experience eating here. We had a group of 4 without reservations - was really busy when we showed up but were able to cram into the tiny bar area to grab some drinks and wait. Very glad we did because the drinks here were tremendous. I wish every place could make a cucumber gin martini as good as this place does. Everyone else was very pleased as well.
After a short wait we were able to get a table by the window and shared some different plates. We tried the sausage sampler, caprese, and a couple of their stuffed naan flatbreads. These were very tasty. So, for fairly reasonable prices (relative to a lot of other options in the area), we were able to try a lot of different flavors and walked away very happy.
What a nice new addition to the Old Port. Â Fancy, but not to fancy. Â The drinks were $10 ish bucks for a girl on a budget was a bit high (not unreasonable) and they were worth every penny! Â we just went for a cocktail and it was great. Â the staff is super friendly and they give you pine nuts to snack on! Â I like!!!!! Â will definitely go to have some food. Â Down and up side, its small... really small. Â It seems like this place is a BIG hit, which means either make reservations a day or so in advance, or chance waiting for a table for a bit.
Review Source:Well my husband and I LOVED this place! We came for lunch and we didn't have much time, so we just ordered paninis and water. He got the Cubano which was spicy and delicious. I got the Paris because I am a sucker for pears and brie, but I was pretty hungry so I also added turkey. It was amazing and a great portion! Some people have complained that this place is expensive but we didn't think so. We don't know the local market very well because we are visiting from California, but the prices seemed fine to us. I checked out the wine prices and they are super reasonable. (By the way, the only thing I don't like about this place are the wine and beer menus. They are pieces of paper cut up poorly and scotch taped to empty bottles. It looks tacky.) But all in all, we came hungry, left full and happy, and it didn't break the bank. You get what you pay for at The North Point!
Also, the service was great. The server was very sweet and quick. The owner also walks around and says hello to everyone.
The decor and ambiance are equally wonderful! The inside and outside of this restaurant are absolutely adorable and have a ton of character.
Finally, when they brought the bill they also brought two soft homemade cookies. Duh, I loved that. I wish this place was back in our hometown in the Bay Area! Oh well...we'll just have to come back next time my husband is working in Portland!
i stopped at the North Point last night and was really impressed with everything. Â I usually try and wait awhile after something opens to stop in so i'm not disappointed, but you would have thought the North Point has been there for years - they really have it together. Â The service was attentive, but not overbearing. Â The atmosphere was very relaxed, but classy in its own way. Â My wife had a cocktail that was fantastic, you can tell they use top notch ingredients and pay attention to detail. Â We ordered the salmon pate, the Nicoise, and the bruchetta special. Â All three were delicious, and just the right size. Â I have no reason to rate the North Point at anything less than 5 stars, I think they found a niche Portland was lacking and I can see them doing very well in their location across from the Regency. Â I hear there will soon be another "high end" cocktail bar across the way on Market St, with a $2000 annual membership available and a sure to be hipster crowd - I think the North Point has set the bar really high for them and I will be returning for sure.
Review Source:I've now been 3 times since opening, twice for dinner and once for a cocktail. Â I've enjoyed my experience each time. Â
The flatbread sandwiches are made with naan and very creative in the ingredient combinations. Â I've tried both the Paris (apple, pear and brie) and the Maine Mushroom (caramelized mushrooms, shallots, blueberry puree). Â The savory and sweet balance made every bite interesting. Â Really delicious. Â If I was forced to choose, the mushroom one would win by a small margin.
Comfortable, cozy, dimly lit, inviting are my comments on the ambiance. Â Service has been great as well. Â
The beer menu, though not huge, has a thoughtful assortment of micro brews. Â I tried the Ginger St. Germain cocktail, which was superb. Â I'd order that every time, but my bank account would suffer.
This will surely stay in my regular rotation of happy hour spots in Portland.
Port out, starboard home.
The North Point punches well above Portland's weight. This is not to say that the patrons are fat, indeed it was a very svelte group the night that I was there, but that the establishment would still be a gem were it translocated to NYC, Barcelona or Paris. This is the type of place where new friends can be made, old acquaintances reimagined and delicious food consumed.
Overly critical mode... ENGAGE! They opted for Xlerator hand dryers instead of the Dyson Airblade. Fortunately they provide moisturizer in a pseudo-admission of their mistake. Though the owner of the establishment dresses in the manner of a flamenco guitarist (white shirt, 2 undone buttons, tightish pants) the soundtrack is lamentably uninteresting. Â
All kidding aside, I loved the service, the atmosphere, and that the owner took the time to introduce himself and make sure that we felt welcome. With tempting food options and a well-conceived alcohol list, I will be back for sure.
I feel the need to update again now that they've increased their prices, significantly so. This is not New York City. You can't charge $11 for most of your cocktails and expect to remain in business. Their price point is now higher than Sonnys, Evantide, the brand new In'finiti, and every other place I can think of.
I really do enjoy this restaurant. I ate there last night, but they need to be realistic. They also increased the price of the paninis and $13 seems too steep for what essentially is a sandwich. Hopefully they realize the market and adjust back down. At $8-$9 a cocktail and $10-$11 a panini this would truly be one of the top places in the city. Currently, it doesn't have the value anymore, and I'd rate 3.5 stars. 4.5 on half price wine nights (Sunday-Tuesday).
A great place. A spot like no other in Portland.
The ambiance really sets the tone, it reminds me of casual dining in Paris, small, quaint and dimly lit. This is what sets it a part and why I'll come back. The drink menu is fine - craft beer, wine and drinks. The food menu has various apps but I really enjoyed the naan sandwiches - they're excellent and very well done. Diverse options ranging from turkey with apple, cucumber and cheese, vegetarian with apples and Brie, etc. The bill was $50, very reasonable for two people for dinner - 2 drinks a piece and 2 sandwiches.
The only negative is how they present their drink menus. The beer list is a beer mug with the names of the beers laminated on the mug. Same with the wine...This may be only temporary, I hope so.
Portland needed this place. Unpretentious, amazing food and cocktails, the owners are super friendly and obviously very excited about their restaurant, friendly servers, great atmosphere...it has everything I ever wanted in a restaurant and has quickly become my new favorite spot. I have been telling everyone I know that this is the place to go!
Review Source:Great spot. Â Tucked away on Silver St, it's what we would call a 'hole in the wall' back home - a definite compliment. It's not super obvious or easy to find, it's got suitably low lighting and an intimate/cosy feel.
The service was great - informed and friendly. Â The owner also came over and said hi - nice guy. Â I think he was glad to hear we were all locally-based.
The booze selection was good across the board - cocktails, wine and beer - oftentimes places like this will favour the former two at the expense of the latter, but as a beer drinker I was pleased with the small but well-thought selection.
For food we had a meat and cheese selection, which was pretty good. A bit more adventure with the cheese selection would have been good, but in fairness I think that was more our failing than theirs.
The missus & I also had their club sandwich...which was awesome - v different, but very tasty and just right on the portion size.
I think this place is aimed at the late 20s upwards. Â I think they've succeeded in pulling off what Una used to strive for (showing my age there :)
Visting Cape Elizabeth for the weekend, went into Portland for the day. Â My partner and I along with another couple were fortunate to come across The North Point when looking for a late lunch and cocktail. Â
Wow, Day 4 since the grand opening and what a welcome surprise. Intimate surroundings with a great music selection.  Service was stellar and proud owners genuinely care about their business, clients and your overall satisfaction.  Cocktails made with all fresh ingredients, bloody mary and margarita were best we have had.  Homemade soup was wonderful, quiche  amazing and the Naan reuben with a side of homemade slaw, a welcome change to the traditional offerings. Â
If in Town, don't miss The North Point. Â You will NOT be disappointed!
