Well, it's miniature inside. The people making the sandwiches are usually fairly sweet. The clerks at the cash register are HORRENDOUSLY RUDE!! The clerk informed me that there was a ten dollar minimum if using a credit card to pay and then put my card in the register and decided she had the right to hold my card until I finished looking for something to add up to ten dollars. I asked her why she took my card and she said" I was holding it for you.' Who KEEPS Â a customer's credit card? Oooooh, but if you look Italian, you get the royal treatment, smooches, samples, etc. If you just have an Italian last name like me, and you'd like a friendly, polite cashier, Â forgeddaboudit.
Bari has better subs. Fontano's has way better subs.
Sandwiches were good but the place is FILTHY and the employees are extremely UN friendly. Â I will not be going back.
While waiting an extremely long time for 3 sandwiches, I was looking around... and shouldn't have... I don't think this place has EVER been cleaned. Â It's very tiny, very old, and everything is dingy and run down. Â The cold case had tons of condensation on the doors and was not cold at all. Â All the corners, nooks, and crannies of the store had piles of crud and dirt. Â Thankfully I didn't see any bugs or I would have been outta there. Â Under the meat slicer was piles of dried up food crumbles that had obviously been there a long time. I saw them making the sandwiches in back but I was really afraid to watch them handle my food.
They don't carry many dry/canned items here, and what they do have is basically anything you can get at a produce center like A&G or Tony's. Â It's overpriced too. Â
That being said, the Italian sub sandwiches were very good. Â However the sausage sandwich had no sauce. Â Just a dried up piece of sausage with a half melted slice of provolone on a piece of italian bread. Â
They also make homemade cannolis that are delicious, but maybe not so fresh! Â Another bonus was little packets of saffron at the register for a reasonable price.
I'm not sure what's up with this place. Â It used to be alot better.
nottoli is the new mistress in my life
grabbed a 5 dollar ital sub last week on my lunchbreak and bit into heaven...i dont eat meat often so when i do...if i say its good...u know its damn good...perfect amount of dressing splashed on (other half lasted til lunch the next afternoon with zero sogginess!!!)
not really a gripe here but a bit of a nuisance if u have limited time...u order sammies from the deli counter so u may have to wait in line for a bit
they take credit w/a $10 min but really thats not an issue cause with all the other awesome imported goods in here ur golden
*only gripe was on the focaccia...must have been sittin in the store for a while cause a day after i took it home it grew some mold :(
WONDERFUL,WONDERFUL,WONDERFUL!!!!! My grandparents (who were born and lived in Italy their whole lives) would ONLY go here! You must buy the sausage and if you have no time to make dinner.... buy  the no meat sauce and meatballs!!! The family that owns it  are ALWAYS friendly! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Review Source:I was taking my taxes in and stopped in for a quick sandwich.
I love the quaint, old school vibe of this place.
We ended up getting an italian sub (salami, hot capicollo, mortadella and provolone cheese) and a veggie sub (roasted peppers, marinated eggplant, artichoke hearts, and provolone cheese). Both were yummy. Can't beat the price either (under $5 each). I really appreciated that even the veggie sub with all the marinated veggies wasn't overly oily, and the service was excellent. The bread was crisp and fresh, but not so crusty you could break a tooth, which I appreciated as well.
They have a great deli counter and a pretty decent market as well. I'll definitely be back!
This is a great little corner Italian deli that includes a cute little Italian man. Â It comes with all the normal accoutrements that you would expect. Â What I really recommend is the deli, especially the home made section. Â I ordered large pans of both meat and spinach (vegetarian) lasagna and they were so yummy. Â Unlike other Italian eateries I talked to, they cooked the lasagnas for me and had them piping hot on time. Â I bought these for a bridal shower and had many raving reviews from guests. Â I have also heard great things about their sub sandwiches. Â Definitely a place to go to if you need a quick dinner for you or if you need something bigger for a party.
Review Source:I love this place. The people there are always so nice and helpful. They have great prices and everything you would need to make a great Italian meal. The biggest surprise for me was the great sandwiches they make. I finally tried an Italian sub and it was great. Not as good as Bari's but a lot closer and almost as good. They put a good amount of meat, cheese and a generous amount of seasonings and oil and vinegar. It got a little soggy but I kinda like the vinegar so if you don't, maybe ask them to put a little less dressing on there. I'll be back!
Review Source:Whenever I am in town, I stay near here and always mule home 10 pounds or so. Their hot Italian sausage is some of the best in the area. I grew up near here and ate it my entire life. Attached to Mom's apron strings, I was always excited to come here as a child. The sights, and smells are exactly the same. I just grilled about half of my stash*, time to book a flight back to Chicago and re-up!
