Amazing food, especially the corned beef and cabbage, goat cheese fritters, and soda bread.  They pour a perfect pint of Guinness, and I love their Black Fog with Chambord.  The staff is very friendly and they'll give you a free shot of whiskey on your birthday.  Lots of fun.

This is by far my favorite food/alcohol place to go on campus. They have lots of good drinks (especially the beer) and the food is great. Best bar on campus.

9 Brothers seems popular with the college crowd here, and rightly so. It is an Irish Pub themed restaurant, complete with Guinness and Jameson decor and waitstaff in plaid kilts. This was my first visit. We ended up here at about 10:00 in the evening, just as an Irish band brought in from Indianapolis was warming up. The band was pretty good and the volume was just right - loud enough to be heard, but not loud enough that we had to yell to converse.

I had the Molly Malloy - sliced turkey and swiss cheese with cole slaw on toasted bread. It was very good. The cole slaw was a little sweet for me, but that is just a personal thing. The slaw had nice crispiness and didn't make the toast soggy. It all had a nice flavor and was accompanied by nice, hot chips, fresh from the fryer. My wife had the fish and chips and she was also impressed. All in all, it is certainly a place I'd come back to.

My husband and I were swinging through on our way back to Illinois where we found this restaurant/pub highly recommended. We were seated right away and there was no wait whatsoever (it was a Monday night). Their drink specials were fair and we tried the Boddington Ale on tap. It was like a blonde Guinness. Not too bad with dinner.
Our waitress was sloooooow but I think she had been sampling the draught beer, on a muscle relaxer, or generally high as a kite but she was entertaining. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer and although I think they had to pickle the cucumbers before they came out, they were wonderful. Instead of a ranch dip, they serve them with a vinegar/brown sugar/ ?? mix that was off-putting at first, but pleasant after a while.
Again, waiting a while for our food I had a chance to look around... the pub/restaurant had a great atmosphere for friends and family. I can only imagine how loud it can get with live bands which I believe perform Saturday nights. The bathrooms are confusing if you've never been. Men's and unisex to the front. Women go all the way around to the back of the restaurant to use theirs.
I ordered the shepherd's pie (half order) which was GREAT. A scoop of mashed potatoes was added right into the dish and it was very hearty. My husband ordered the bangers and mash and although I don't usually care for the dish, it was very tasty.
We got out of the meal with two beers, an appetizer, and one and a half meals for $34. Not too shabby! Would recommend for a change of pace from the traditional restaurant!
Oh, come to think of it, the waitress was probably upset at me wearing my Ohio State apparel on the Purdue campus. Whoops.

One of the popular bars among Purdue students. Their food is also worth considering. I personally enjoy their fish and chips as well as their Shepard's Pie.

My first encounter with Nine Irish was actually on business.  I thought I was there to sell them something and instead, they sold me for life.  The food and service were incredible!  You'll probably need a to-go box!

Went there when the roads were bad coming back with my boyfriend from Chicago. It was a lovely little detour! The interior was eclectic and the waitstaff was really friendly. I ordered the Magner's Irish Cider, which I enjoyed. Not up my boyfriend's alley though.. :) As for the food, it came out almost immediately! And the portion size was HUGE! I got the fish and chips, the half was still a large portion for me, and my boyfriend ordered the manhattan open faced sandwich. They were both delicious. I feel like the fish and chips was better though, probably the best one I've tried so far! :) Cozy and wonderfully Irish interior, great spirits, and delicious food. Recommend, recommend, recommend!

The food is decent compared to the Claddagh, but the bar and ambience are much more unique.  They also won best pour for Guiness in the country.  Its worth visiting to sit at the bar, watch the correct procedure, and have the bartender explain everything that goes into it (temp, pressure, nitrous, actual pour, etc).  If it sounds ridiculous then google how much it can effect it.  Definitely one of the more worthy bars.

beer and whisky flight were very good.  Food poor.  ordered corned beef and cabbage.  corned beef shredded and dry ...no seasoning....cabbage no seasoning had to put on own salt and pepper...and worst of all the INSTANT mashed potatoes. I dont' think they believe in salt and pepper.   I told the owner the potatoes were instant and he said they were "specially cut for them".   not buying it...specially cut by Hungry Jack at  Sam's Club West Lafayette.  Irish pubs need redskin potatoes boiled or mashed...not that hard and a lot cheaper for cost of goods.  I expect this to be deleted by Yelp since anything I write that is negative they delete. I have written good reviews and those remain up.  Yelp is a joke but I'm trying again to save people from wasting a meal. I wasted calories tonight...such a bummer.

Pros: live music on occasion, good for groups
Cons: Loud, some tables have backless stools for seating which is no bueno for older patrons or people with back issues, sometimes out of beers on menu, terrible parking situation

As a graduate of Purdue, I have been coming to Nine Irish off and on since it opened.  I tend to avoid it because parking is so bad (small parking lot, but overflow parking across the street- just be careful where you park to avoid being ticketed or towed!) and it's crowded.  However, my dad loves this place so I've made exceptions to come here to please him.

My most recent experience was after a Purdue convocation.  I came with family and friends and we were seated near the back in a table for eight.  It was cozy, but the backless stools were uncomfortable.  I was planning to be there a while, and the thought of sitting in those stools for a few hours wasn't that appealing.  They have plenty of other seating for those elderly patrons, but that was all that was available when we arrived.

I've heard the same thing about the menu over the past few years- the only thing worht getting here is the figh and chips.  This is a pretty big staple for them, and they dole out generous portions.  My family raved about the fish and chips and said it's the only thing they'd eat off the menu.

All in all this place is a nice change of pace from other bars/restaurants on campus.  Give it a try if you're in the mood for some Irish grub and yummy beers.

This is my favorite place to come for a drink after work. The atmosphere is awesome, service is good and drink selection can please everyone. The patio is also great when it's nice out. I really like the Shepherd's Pie and the Ploughman's Plate and the Reuben.

It's just a great place to chill and have a beer after a long day.

The only negative is the really loud live music on some nights.

I love love love this place ! The portions are huge and the wait staff is very friendly. The best part about it however is the atmosphere. As soon as you walk in you feel like you are in an irish pub, and not in Indiana at all !

They also have a great selection of liquor if you are into that sort of thing but even if you aren't its still worth going for the food.

Try the fish and chips or shepherds pie, those are definitely old favorites I keep coming back to :)

While I feel that Nine Irish Brothers is a pretty good restaurant, I used to like their food a lot better. Wonder if I've just gotten a bit sick of it (since it IS one of the best places to eat around here) or if it's declined? The past few times I've been I just haven't been completely satisfied.

Regardless, the Guinness here is great and they won some sort of competition on it.  I love getting the Black Velvet which is cider and Guinness mixed together. SO GOOD. Trust me. I experimented with some other of their Guinness mixtures and it wasn't for me (like, orange juice). They also have a great variety of whiskeys, obvs ;D

I like the restaurant itself but on weekend nights the Irish music is too loud, so don't go if you are actually trying to have a conversation. They do have a back room but it would get taken pretty quickly on a day with loud music and they also have an outside area for when the weather is nice.

Foodwise, best are shepherd's pie and fish and chips. They are HUGE, so consider getting the half portion if you don't want left overs. Bangers and mash are also pretty good. But the corned beef and cabbage is always too salty :(

This place has quality food, quality music, quality atmosphere, and an overall excellent service staff. This pub was one that my friend had recommended to me during my 2nd year in college and I have been a returning patron ever since. If there is one thing that I would recommend on their menu, it would be their Guinness Stew, so much flavor and beefy goodness, one of the very best dining experiences and made an impressionable impact on me.

I loved this place. They said they had the best Guinness on tap and they weren't kidding. I don't even like Guinness.
The service was great and while the menu was pretty traditional American-Irish fare, I loved my Shepherd's Pie and super rich dessert.
If I ever make it back to West Lafayette, this will be the first stop.

Tasty but loud!  This was a favorite for my sister when she visited; she loves their deep fried pickles.  Their fish and chips were good, as well as their Shepherd's Pie. I think I had a burger once but it wasn't memorable.  They have lots of beer.  I even took my Dad here a couple of times and he liked it.  It has a pub feeling, with lots of loud Irish music.

The only thing I'd add is that there are multiple locations and this is by far my favorite.

I was in Purdue for two years, and whenever I got a break from my hectic life as a grad student, I would rush to this place - especially on Friday nights, when they have kick-ass Irish bands playing there. Some info and opinion about this place - (i) THe ambience is amazing - the best amongst all pubs in West Lafayette, (ii) The 'frat' crowd generally doesn't come to this place (you'll find a more mature and older crowd - but yeah not too old like a Saturday night in Neon Cactus. LOL), (iii) If you're vegetarian, then don't come here hungry. I don't think there are any vegetarian dishes apart from Fries. (iv) If you love Celtic Rock, then do make it a point to come here on a live music night!

The food's not that great, the beer's not that cheap, but the atmosphere is the best you're going to get this side of the river. It's far enough away from campus that you don't see the younger undergrad crowd. Ton of townies though.

But seriously, why does everyone think the food here is delicious? Their only half-way decent option is the fish and chips and even then, how good can the fish be in Indiana? I've had almost every item on the menu at least twice and yet I can't think of one thing I really enjoyed.

Probably the worst though is the Connemara Chicken. I think they assume that since they're drenching it in cream sauce that they can cook it till it shrivels into something more akin to jerky. And the cream sauce has almost no flavor to speak of, just hot.

+1 for the awesome owner who loves to share a drink
+1 for $5 whiskey flight, just one and you're done
+1 for the lack of undergrads

This is one of my favorite lunch spots in the area.  The food is consistently good and they pour a great pint of Guinness. On the weekends there is live music, but in the spring and fall I like to go to sit outside on the patio and have lunch with friends.

This place is amazing!! Delicious food, great beer, friendly staff, and really cool live music... What else can you ask??? Plus, you can see some of the prettiest girls in this place hahaah ;-)

This was the first bar I went since I got here almost two weeks ago and I have gone three times already in such a short period of time and I can't wait to go back. Food wise the only thing I had so far was the Irish pizza and it plain amazing!

Last Saturday night I went and they have live Irish music; that was just a blast! It really makes you feel like if you were in Dublin!!

O'Bryan's is one of my all time favorite bars and it will my to go place as long as I am in this area....

This is one of my favorite places to bring out of town visitors. 9 Irish Bros has character, good food, music and usually has rugby on the TV (which I love bc I used to play). The service is usually good, unless they're swamped, and then it is understandable. The menu is very diverse. The fish and chips are the best I have ever had, the chicken salad sandwhich is the bomb and corned beef and cabbage and rueben are also outstanding. Oh, and the muscles are sooooooooo delicious! I also need to give a shout out to the Irish breakfast- wow, amazing! Banger sausage, Irish soda bread, come on, it doesn't get any better!

My only beef with this place is slightly selfish. I invented an item on the menu (the deluxe pots of gold), I asked for it special order and the kitchen loved it so much they told the owner about it. The owner came to our table, said he wanted to put it on the menu. He didn't comp it off our bill and continues to reap the profit off of my idea! LAME! Oh, and they named it a stupid name. I thought it should be named Southside Skins. But whateves. Lol... I still love NIBs (Nine Irish Bros)!
Oh- and seating is not always the best, especially if you have elderly people with you.

The food here is great. I'm not a huge fan of the seating arrangements, but the food and service is good enough that I'll still give it 5 stars.

APPETIZERS: The Irish Nachos are delicious, but not something you could only find at Nine Irish. The smoke salmon plate is very good, but again, nothing special. The Irish soda bread has a nice flavor and tastes very fresh. The goat cheese fritters are VERY tasty! Deep-frying the goat cheese is a perfect compliment to its creaminess and the field greens and raspberry vinaigrette are a perfect light contrast to balance out the heaviness of the fritters.

ENTREES: I've had the fish and chips, guiness stew, shephard's pie and corned beef and cabbage. The fish and chips are one of my favorite meals anywhere - the fish is so tender, the chips are cooked perfectly and the tartar sauce and cole slaw are great. The Shephard's Pie is good, but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd order. The corned beef and cabbage is delicious - filling, but not heavy.

DESSERT: The Irish Whiskey Creme Brulee. One of the BEST desserts I've ever had. I tried a bite of my fiance's once and kept going back for more. Amazing flavors. You'll have the dessert finished before the dish has had time to cool off.

Sláinte, to you too, Nine Irish Brothers.

As I walked in to the Irish Bar/Restaurant, I had the deepest desire to go buy a fiddle, dish it out in the middle of the bar and start playing and singing to all the old Irish songs and lores, but alas, I had to hold back as I realized this is not Ireland. The ambience was amazing, it did not feel like any dive bar and it did not feel like a restaurant, it truly felt Irish, though how I know, I can't say, as I've never ventured over the Atlantic Ocean before. We were a party of 4 Asian folks, looking for excellent food and perhaps a pint of stout for good health, and we ended our night feeling like 4 Irish brothers and sisters.

Now for the real meat of the review. The food was excellent, beyond amazing, especially for the amount of coin you dish out. What we had on our table was some Irish bread (AMAZING MUST GET STUFF, IT'S LIKE LEGAL DOPE!), Prime Rib (Damn good too!), Fish & Chips (Oh my god, even the Queen would have a hard time not knighting the owner of the restaurant, and the chips were sliced potatoes, not french fries, they really looked like chips!), Bangers and Mash (oh they were banging all right) and an Irish meal would be incomplete without an order of Sheperd's Pie (We were Sheperded to the food heaven's gate). To top it off we got a couple of Guiness's.

All that for less than 70 bucks including tip! You can't get that anywhere here! The price in NYC would be almost twice or 2.5 times that!

On that day there was also an Irish band playing right in front of us, you know they are legit when you see a lady busting out a fiddle! They played the night away and the crowd were clapping and cheering to create a real lively ambiance. T'was a great night and would definitely not be my last visit as my brother would be graduating from Purdue soon and my next visit will be around the corner.

O' Nine Irish Brothers, t'was a glorious meeting and shall not be our last!

I'll raise my pint glass to Nine Irish Brothers!

5 of us stopped in on a busy football weekend. Signs of a promising pub experience were clear--a trio of musicians singing traditional sea shanty tunes. You know the kind of music that may give you the urge to have a Guinness chugging contest, put your arm around someone and maybe even click your heels (or whatever Irish dancers do)? You can experience that here.

The food is really good pub fare. The BLT deserves recognition as does the flatbread style pizza with three cheeses, diced corned beef and red onions. The fish and chips were a huge hit. For $13.99 you get two huge whitefish filets nearly the size of a burly man's forearm. A nice light batter and not at all greasy. Get these to share.

It's a pub and not fine dining (although the food is really good) so be aware that the seating and table arrangements may not be the most comfortable. Lots of little stools with no back support and if you have a large group you may just have to push together a bunch of little round tables.

Come for live Irish music and enjoy the rowdy but surprisingly very good-natured atmosphere!

We got seated pretty quickly for a football weekend. The Guiness mixer menu is amazing. I suggest trying a Black Fog, Guiness with Raspberry Liqueur.
The bigger entrees all come with half sizes. The half order of fish and chips were the perfect amount of food. Very tasty as well!
The atmosphere was very authentic except my mother claimed it didnt smell 'musty enough'.

9 Irish Brothers is truly a Lafayette gem.

I've been many many times -- after work for a couple pints of Guinness, with family and out-of-town friends, as a date night and for work lunches and parties -- and will continue to go as long as we live here.

The atmosphere is just what you'd expect from an Irish bar -- Guinness posters on the wall, family tributes on the shelves and soccer/golf/rugby on the televisions.

The food is perfect. I don't know if I've had *everything* on the menu, but I've eaten my way through most of it, I'm sure. Highlights include the mussels, Guinness stew, shepherd's pie, chicken salad and the corned beef & cabbage dinner. (I'm allergic, but my wife tells me that the fish & chips is also quite wonderful.)

The beer/whiskey selection is top notch too, and they've got a full bar as well, to go with a moderate wine selection. Priced just right with enough variety to satisfy large groups, I just can't get enough of 9IB.

And as a plus Jerry, the owner, is one hell of a guy. When he's in, he'll come by the table and say hello -- pint in hand.

    Love this place. Thoroughly recommended.

I have to say i have been to Nine Irish brothers almost from the beginning. I saw the building go up and have grown to love the place. We love to go see Highland Reign here, it is so much fun. I also ahve to stay they have the BEST fish and chips I have ever had....and I have tried a lot elsewhere.  on top of all this they have the best pint of Guinness as well.(multiple years running!!)

    No Irish pub compares!!!

I've loved 9IB for a few years now and constantly try to compare other Irish pubs to it (with few meeting the lofty goal).  I'm personally a big fan of the Shepard's pie with the best pint of Guinness this side of the Atlantic (according to Guinness itself).  The pub chips are also delicious with the side containing a large portion that is great to enjoy while drinking with friends.  I also love the soda bread.

The beer selection is pretty good with cheap beer like Bud Light in bottles and good beer on tap.  Off the top of my head, the draft list includes:  Guinness, Smithwick's, Bass, Harp, Old Speckled Hen, Strongbow, and a few others.  There is also an impressive whiskey list if sipping on Irish whiskey is your thing.  From time to time, there are whiskey tastings including the Jameson line.  They are fun and worth the price.

This all pales in comparison to the general feel of the place.  Everyone seems to be happy to be there, patrons and employees alike.  I highly recommend 9 Irish Brothers.

Went back again today with three friends. I went with my old stand-by because I just can't go here without ordering my favorite--smoked salmon pinwheels and lobster bisque soup. I asked specifically for no red peppers in my pinwheels; when the server brought them to me she said there were no red peppers. I took a big bite of a pinwheel and, true, there were no red peppers--but there were green peppers. ??? I guess it's factually correct to say that there were no red peppers in the meal but I thought it was somewhat odd that the reaction was to sub out green peppers. I think now I'm ready to try something else, not only because of that, but because of what two of our friends got for lunch: the car bomb burger.

The burger was smothered in a sweet and spicy sauce, topped with carmelized onions and bacon, and then they asked for a layer of white cheddar over the whole mess. I immediately regretted my food decision the second their burgers arrived, especially because the burger and a side of steak fries was only $6.99.

The service was, as always, good, though the server wasn't very friendly. All is forgiven due to the empty plates left after we had decimated our food.

I go to 9 Irish regularly. My favorites are the shepard pie and the corned beef, they are very very tasty. Also they have my favorite cider -- Strongbow on tap.

Most of the time their corned beef is almost perfect, so my conclusion is -- great good but the quality is a little bit inconsistent.

Great decor, good food, and great beers. They pour Guinness really well, and will let you know it. Seriously, they talk about it like it's equivalent to solving a rubix cube.

Music is usually always Authentic Irish, and their fish and chips are amazing. I wouldn't even bother with anything else on the menu, although it's all pretty good.

    Very much enjoy this place.

I went to this place twice while in West Lafayette for a week.  I really should have stopped after my first visit.

The first visit was on a Saturday night.  There was a live Irish band and the place was packed.  It was very lively and our waitress was very sweet and helpful.  She made suggestions and was very prompt with our orders.  We had the goat cheese fritters, which were wonderful, the wings (average), and at the waitress's suggestion, we had the Irish Nachos.  "Irish Nachos?  WTF?" I thought to myself.  I'm from Austin, TX, where the Tex-Mex and Nachos are plentiful, and I thought that the sound of Irish food and Nachos was a recipe for disaster.  How wrong I was.  The chips are instead fried potato wedges and the combination of that with the lettuce, sour cream, and beef was delicioso!!  They also won some kind of award for the best pint of Guinness in the USA.  I don't know about that, but it was decent Guinness.

The second time I visited with a group of friends, and our new server was not friendly at all.  The place was totally dead and for us being his only customers, it says something that he wasn't very attentive.  I ordered the bread pudding, which was HORRIBLE- worst bread pudding I've ever had!  It tasted like pure rum and was disgusting.  I had two bites and left the rest, and the waiter still put it on my bill.  When I asked to speak with a manager, he removed it from the bill.

You can get much better "craic" at another pub!

I live in Galway, Ireland and I must say Mr O'Bryan has done a fine job recreating the atmosphere of an Irish pub, albeit a fancy one. The Irish beers on draught are very good for an American pub. The Guinness is nearly as good as stuff you would get in Ireland. I was amazed to find O'Hara's on draught, especially since I've only seen it in bottles in Ireland!

The food could be better. I'm not so sure about "Irish nachos" but I guess that is for American taste buds. The soda bread is good and homemade, but don't mistake it for the real thing. The Connemara chicken was probably the best entree and most like a hearty Irish "carvery lunch" dish.

The table service is a bit overwhelming. The servers really need to tone things down and let patrons relax without feeling rushed to eat or drink too quickly.

The live music is excellent (bring back Ceann!) and I understand there are weekly Irish dancing lessons, but I've never attended.

There are plenty of flat screen TVs showing the Irish network Setanta sports so there is no shortage of rugby, Gaelic football, hurling and camogie.

This location has a better vibe than the Lafayette location, but it's still a little absurd that patrons order longneck bottles of Bud/Miller. Really people?! Try something new and have an O'Hara's or Old Speckled Hen. O'Bryan's is the only pub in Indiana I've been to that has either of these great beers on draught and the best Guinness I've tasted outside of Ireland.

I really, REALLY wish this place had been there when I was still in school.  It's definitely got the pub feel down with cozy booths, bar seating and high  tables.

The Irish Soda Bread comes highly recommended.  I've also had the fish & chips and chicken sandwich, both are really good too.  Most times I'm passing through so I can't have much to drink but I did have a great bloody mary here.

A solid pub.  Excellent atmosphere for drinking with friends.  It feels like no other bar in West Lafayette- even though there are always tons of students (self-included), it avoids the feel of a campus bar.

I agree with all the recommendations of fish and chips, best I've had in the Midwest.  I tried the bangers and mash the other day, and was a little disappointed in the blandness of the sausages, but the vegetables were delicious.  Also, try the pub nachos with extra salsa- pub fries with nacho toppings, a genius idea.

It is a bit pricy, but the half-portions can be a good meal for around $5- the chili is a good cheap choice, too, but I have had it served cold before.  The beer is also somewhat expensive for a campus area, but the selection is well worth the price.
