This is the Pizzeria version of TGI Fridays.  Okay pizza, okay service.  Was here on a Saturday evening and the place was uncomfortably crowded.   Once the crowd died down, the place was tolerable.

The outside of this place is not deceiving, I was expecting basic bar food and a reasonable selection of beer.  The menu didn't disappoint.  The beer selection was okay, the place was clean and our service was just fine.  The food was very disappointing.  Lacking in taste, my burger was overly greasy and looked like it had spend some time in a microwave.  The fries were not stellar.

I wasn't expecting anything fancy but I was expecting something that tasted good and it makes me sad to say it was not good at all.  I would not go back to Old Chicago for the food.  I might go back for beer and a game of pool but I can get that someplace that has good food too.

If this place fixed up their food they might have something decent.

Servers won't even acknowledge you are there!  I've eaten at this chain across the country and this had to be by far the worst experience ever!  Maybe its a local drug problem or something.  Their staff are morons!

Disappointed.  I love the Old Chicago in Evansville, they should take some notes from them.  My wife ordered a "well, well, well done steak" but the middle was very pink when she got it.  If our food hadn't taken so long, I would have sent it back.

Our food was good, but this location is missing something.

Old Chicago -- as you can imagine -- is a Chicago-themed restaurant. We enjoyed locations in places relatively far away from Chicago, like Nebraska, and OC is one of the very few national/regional chain sit-down restaurants I'll support. Of course, a Chicago-themed restaurant in a city less than an hour away from Chicago doesn't quite have the same special quality, and it seems like a weird fit so close. The food isn't anything extraordinary, but consistently good. The nachos were a longtime favorite of mine out in Nebraska, but the portion size somehow shrank as we traveled east. Service in OC locations is about what you'd expect from a national chain, lots of young kids perhaps in their first server jobs with no special ties to the place or its ownership, but usually good enough.

If you're traveling through Merrillville, you'll find yourself surrounded by chain restaurants, so you might as well eat at this one. What a ringing endorsement.

I don't know about the other reviewers, but I truly enjoyed my "Classic Chicago-Style" pizza. It was hot, fresh, tasty and the crust was just fine. It had pepperoni, mushrooms, Italian sausage, mozzarella and roasted garlic. It did not take too long for the pizza to arrive either. We asked before we ordered and the server gave an accurate estimation of time for the pizza. It is a chain. They do have tv's on sports channels. There is a bar and a seating area separated by a wall. It is a place that can get noisy. They also have an interesting selection on non-alcoholic fun drinks. Service was very courteous. It was great for a late-night pizza run!

Stopped here the other night while my bf and I were shopping in M-ville because I had an insatiable chocolate craving and wanted dessert.  I ordered the triple chocolate pecan brownies or something like that.  It was decent.  It certainly wasn't made there, definitely frozen.  It was huge, and not super sweet, which I appreciate.  The ice cream that came with it was good.  Their beer selection is amazing.

Yuck, it's just a chain, nothing special about it. The pizza was lackluster, my shrimp were ok, but barely warm, and the cole slaw tasted like someone spilled alot of salt in it (and I am a person that salts my salt, so if it's too salty for me, there's a problem). The service was friendly, but as a previous review stated, not very professional. The early twenty something server kept calling me and my husband "sweetie". I hate that!
The atmosphere was ok, if you like noise, crowds, and drunk loud talkers at the bar.

I met some friends up there on a saturday night so i'm not sure of what type of wait there was (if any). Service was prompt and accurate. the selection of beers is a very nice feature to this restaurant. It seemed like they had most of the brews on the list. My friends and I tried some random brews that we have not seen else where. The pizza was decent, not the best and far from the worst. Atmosphere was good and typical to a chain restaurant.
Overall, the restaurant warrants a second visit mainly to try some more brews and some good pizza.

I liked this place, actually.  In theory they would have a great beer selection but alas, they are often out.  Service is sometimes objectionable but it has a nice, laid-back atmosphere and one of my favorite places to go when I come back to the region on holidays.
Pizza isn't great, but what chain restaurant is going to have good pizza? Turkey burger is pretty good.

Dining area is smoke-free but bar is regrettably still smokable.  Just an FYI

I showed up here with my large (I mean very large) family on a Sunday night.  A word of advice on labor deployment: when you have a party that takes up five tables, don't put your C-team waitress on the job.  When we got to our table, there was a stack of about 20 (no exaggeration) menus on it, yet after about 15 minutes, nobody had showed up to take our orders.  By the time we got the waitress's attention to let her know she had forgotten us, some tables in our party had already been served their food!  Between messing up checks, giving my nachos to my cousin (who was sitting at another table), and carding some people and not others, it was clear this person was not good at her job.

I live in Chicago, and this establishment does not represent the culinary experience its name implies.  Really, just a bunch of mediocre fried food.  When you can get awesome mozzarella sticks, wings, fries, and various other unhealthy appetizers from any local pub in the city, take the drive out here.  You'll spend the same amount of time on the road as you will waiting for service at Old Chicagos.

Wait time was 20 minutes for party of 3 on a Saturday night around 9pm. It was packed and loud inside. While we waited, we decided on the Signature Trio and a sandwich......until we passed by all the deep dish Pizza's on our way to our booth.....

    So we ordered the PIzza.....and.....

Loved the "Chicago Style Crust" Pizza.
Ordered the "Meat Me" which was hands down THE best pizza I've had in a while. (I've also had Lou Malnati's, Edwardo's, Gelsosomo's, Uno's, Paisano's, Giordano's and Sonny's Pizza).
-crust is buttery, crusty and just a nice touch of saltiness, too.
-ingredients: garlic-spiced Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, Andouille sausage, pepperoni, roasted garlic, fresh basil and Mozzarella. (I could hardly notice the garlic, btw).
-great price!!! $21 for large Chicago-style Crust Pizza....There are 8 large slices.

My husband ordered the International Blend beers which is a Blend of Guinness and 4 choices of other beers. His fave was the Belgium one that had Guinness and Stella Artois. It's worth the $6.99 to get the huge 25oz mug.

We also had ordered the Italian Nachos, but those never made it to the table (the 2nd waitress forgot I guess). That was fine because we couldn't finish the pizza and they comped us a dessert....which we ordered their homemade cheesecake. The cheesecake was good, not great though.

Service was very friendly, drinks were refilled promptly. The host was also personable and opening the door was a nice touch to the end of an enjoyable night out.

Pizza in Indiana sucks. It sucks badly. Old Chicago has decent pizza. It's not great, but it doesn't suck as bad as the rest. I had a very delicious salad from their and their cheesecake is very yummy. I am not that fond of the crowded/sportsy atmosphere but I've been to worse. I really want to give this place 3.5 stars but it's a bit better than most places to I just pushed it up to 4.

How can a place with 110 beers get only 2 stars?  Well, let me explain.

I was meeting with friends from out of town and geography dictated that we meet in the south burbs somewhere.  I was a little skeptical about going to a chain that had the gall to move 20 miles from Chicago and call themselves "Old Chicago" but I was informed of the 110 beers so grudgingly got on the the Skyway to meet my old friends.

So where did it all go wrong?  Well, everywhere.

The 110 beers were kind of a sham.  Out of the 5 beers I had, I think I had to order 9.  Practically every other beer I ordered was either out, or had never been in stock.  Here's a tip for those of you planning a chain themed restaurant: Don't print one menu for the entire chain when  your distribution channel can't deliver Iron City or Pyramid beers.  Our waitress told me they had never had them and likely never would.  Ridiculous!

Then there was the Pizza.  Chicago has one food it's famous for and that is pizza. A very specific pizza.  When you order a Chicago Style pie, you expect a very specific thing, that's why I was appalled to get the equivalent of a Pizza Hut Pan pizza, only with better veggies.  A huge thick crust, with just a enough cheese to cover it is not Chicago Style.  Also, it was just bad.  The sauce was bland, the cheese somehow had all of the flavor extracted from it and the only redeemingly tasty thing was the crust, which we already discussed was wrong...

The service...This one is tough to review, because our server was attentive and fulfilled all of our requests fairly promptly, but the whole staff seemed to be high schoolers so lots of my complaints would just be nit picking about things that were done, just not done very professionally.  I don't think we were treated poorly, and everything seemed clean, but the way the food was brought out and the clearing of the table was not up to my fairly low standards and they didn't seem to know the menu very well.  She kept asking me "what number was that" after I ordered a beer.  Apparently they number their beer menu like a Vietnamese restaurant.

Also, apparently you can smoke in restaurants in Indiana still.  I wasn't really prepared for that, but that's hardly the restaurant's fault.

The only thing keeping this from a 1 star rating is the selection of no less than 3 different ESB beers (Red hook, Left Hand and one I have forgotten).  Not many IPAs, but the ones they had were all good ones.
