A great place to see some live music. Because of NC laws they are a "membership" club, but you don't have to join to get in - pay a cover if there is one and sign the book. Nice space - the front is couches and a lounge area with shuffleboard (always a big plus for me). Nice big bar. Friendly and attentive bartenders - even when they're slammed it's not hard to get their attention and get quick service.
The back is a stage for live music, and the bands are usually high energy and the crowd is always having a fun time. It seems to be a really eclectic crowd - everyone from hipsters to old guys wearing cowboy boots and everything in between.
Bathrooms are well lit and surprisingly clean, even at the end of the night.
Great space to hang out, awesome place to see some live music.
Great idea in a great location!
A "membership" bar, located on Burke Street in the West End part of town. (Across from Burke St Pizza, in the old Black Bear - for you locals).
The propietors are trying something a little different - a (somewhat) classy neighborhood bar in a "social club" setting. For a small annual fee, you get a "key" to the bar. Yes, literally, a key to open the front door during business hours. They have good beers on tap, a full booze array, and encourage patrons to BYOF (bring your own food) to enjoy on the premises.
They host bands, so check the lineup. The place is open and airy and plenty of lounge seating if you don't feel like bellying up to the bar.
A nice place to grab a cold one, and an upgrade to the neighborhood, for sure. But for us West Enders, a perfectly suitable place to get loaded and stumble home sans vehicle.
