Totally not going to lie. I've been wanting to eat at the Original Pancake House ever since we drove by the Edina location and I burst out, "Where is pancakes house?" (which is one of my favorite lines from the movie "Fargo") and then collapsed in a fit of the giggles in the car. I knew a little bit about the chain but not much -- but I figured any place that puts a breakfast food in its name can't be that bad, right?

We went for brunch this morning and I would say it was OK. So a solid three stars. If I could, I'd do 3.5 stars. Here's why.

    Positive:
-Totally super solid breakfast menu. Everything you can think of and then some. The house specialties looked intriguing, and I was tempted to order my old standby, eggs benedict. But when at a pancakes house, one must get pancakes! I actually ordered a bacon and cheese omelette, which conveniently came with a side of pancakes.
-Pacakes were super yummy -- crispy on the outside, fluffy and really delicious. Served with whipped butter and warm syrup.
-Omelette was, as described, a souffle type omelette that looked like a miniature football filled with cheese and bacon. It kind of made me laugh because when I dug into it, the cheese oozed out Juicy Lucy style. It was really good but way too big. I don't think anyone needs a FOUR egg omelette, especially when the side on the dish is three pancakes!
-Hubby ordered the corned beef hash, which looked really decent. His poached eggs were poached pretty close to perfectly, which I always find impressive at a restaurant.
-And the decision to add an order of cheesey hashbrowns for the table was decidedly a good one.
-Coffee was stronger than that at most restaurants and pretty tasty. Was surprised to see sugar and stevia in the raw on the table.
-Cool giant glass dome light fixture on the ceiling.

    Negative:
-They were so crowded (granted, Sunday at 10:30 a.m. but still) that I almost decided to walk out. Their front desk seemed a bit disorganized, and the system for paging parties left something to be desired in the "not being obnoxious and making it clear that you hate your job" category.
-Our waitress was nice but too busy. We had to sit for a really long time to get a coffee refill and in the end only got one because my husband had to practically shout "Excuse me!" at her about four times while she buzzed by our table.
-We were never offered a refill on water or a second refill on coffee. Our waitress basically delivered our food, refilled our coffee (after we finally flagged her down to ask) and then didn't come back till we were done eating.
-While I realize they were busy, the staff was moving too quickly. I saw a busboy start clearing a table while the people who were leaving were still putting their coats on. it just seemed really rude. People were coming by and taking plates off our table without asking whether we were done with the food on them. (We were, but still...)
-We asked specifically for a booth and waited extra long to get one. But the booths are really tiny here. Like my husband and I were playing footsie under the table, but not because we were feeling flirty. If we had been a party of four, I'm not sure we would have been able to comfortably sit in a booth.
-The table and seats were clean but the wall of the booth was dirty -- it was very clear to me that it had not been cleaned or even wiped down with a good hot cloth for a really long time. There were streaks of food, finger prints from kids and a general layer of grease. Not impressive.
-It seems poorly designed for a restaurant that does this kind of volume. The aisles are super narrow and staff members are often blocking aisles.

In all, we had a good breakfast. The food here is solid. But the atmosphere and general design of the restaurant leave some things to be desired. Not sure we will venture back too often. But I'm glad I tried it.

Formerly a favorite, this Edina branch of the Original Pancake tree has become a disappointment to me, sadly.  Perhaps weekday service idles not rate the attendance of top level management  - but something was definitely off.

For me, it was when my order came too soon, looking deflated and burned. An apple pancake takes a while to cook. Since mine came so quickly, and looking as it did, I suspect re-heating a pre made cake was involved. Was someone hoping the customer wouldn't notice? Customers notice.

Our server made herself scarce after bringing our order and never asked how everything was, as is usual. H'mmm

Excellent choice for breakfast when you are in this area of the twin cities.....perhaps you are out taking in a lil bit o shoppin in this fabulous hub....you may wait a tad as they are very busy and very popular...the last time i was there some of the viking players had arrived with a party bus and some of their hoes.....they sat at a table right next to us apparently they dine there a lot....so if you are looking for an autograph---you may want to frequent here...

Food is excellent----and good old fashioned flavor and ingredients....ufffdaaah

    I love love love breakfast!

I'm a creature of habit cuz I just always want the basic eggs, bacon, toast and hashbrowns.  But when you look at the menu, you just want to get some stacks with some topping you'd never thought of wanting....and....you just have to tell yourself STOP! You cannot over order here, the portions are HUGE and ordering anything more than one thing will be over kill.

Everything is always soooo good. I love the freshly-squeezed orange juice you can get.  It's so hard not to over indulge.

The clientele is awesome. Go on a weekday and it's usually always regulars.  Weekends are insane, as the wait can be pretty long.  This place just makes me happy!

The pumpkin pancakes are spectacular. I believe it is seasonal, so you'll probably have to wait until next fall. Too bad, so sad.

I agree with most of the reviewers here, the wait is quite long on the weekends. However, doesn't bother us because we are chillin' on the weekends baby. Lunch time rush is also very busy. So if you consider going here during lunch break, make sure your break is at least one hour long.

Pancakes are great. Eggs are good. Price is very reasonable. If we don't have the change to go to French Meadow, then we usually end up going here for brunch.

I really don't get the appeal of this place.  Twice I've gone.  Twice I've waited WAAAAY too long for a table.  Twice the poached eggs have been overcooked. Twice I've been rushed to place my order "because so many people are waiting".  It's nice that the menu is extensive with unique options but everything I've tried is just average/nothing special.  Twice was enough for me.

    OMGOMGOMG I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Seriously! If I could go anywhere for brunch this is where I would go. The only thing that sucks is the wait, but that's a good sign right? If you don't call ahead you're guaranteed at least a half hour wait on weekends for brunch.

I always get the Fresh Strawberry Crepes, side of bacon, with coffee. The crepes are SO delicious! If I could eat these everyday I would. Bacon is always perfect! Coffee is delish. My husband usually gets an omelette or pancakes, always happy with them!

Seriously, if you have not been here you NEED TO GO! I wish they were open later than 3 pm :)

I met a friend here for lunch and from the reviews here I could tell it was going to be busy.  It took us about 40 minutes to get seated and I can say it was worth the wait.  Their menu has tons of choices.  I was surprised when I saw they had a gluten free menu and was even more surprised when I saw how many choices they had.  The gluten free menu probably had 2/3 of the selection of the regular menu and included things like pancakes and waffles.  That's one of the few times I've actually had so many choices it was hard to decide from on a gluten free menu.   I had the gluten free chocolate chip pancakes and they were very good.  This place was a great find and I'd definitely go back.  There are a lot more things I have to try on their gluten free menu.

Easy to see why this place is always so busy: breakfast food is amazing.  I can vouch for the 'Dutch Baby' and the Bacon Pancakes being amazing.

    One word: BACON!

When you come here, order a meal that comes with bacon and then order another side of bacon to go with it! I've been to a lot of brunch places and the OPH has the best bacon by far.

Although, they have pancake in their name, I wouldn't go here for pancakes. Nothing out of the ordinary, a few pretty good stacks but there are other places that have more unique offerings (ie. Woodbury Cafe).

This place is also known for their dutch babies. I was not impressed, after the good 30 min wait for the dutch baby I was expecting something magical. It looked and smelled wonderful however the taste and consistency was lack luster. I would equate it to a thick chewy custardy pancake, blech.

Their omlettes are quite large and will feed two people no problem. I'd recommend the Santa Fe omlette with pepperjack cheese. Their hashbrowns are also out of this world! They're cooked differently than your traditional hashbrowns and always come out thick and crispy.

The only reason this place got 4/5 stars in my book is because of the long wait on weekend mornings. If you don't mind waiting 30 plus mins for breakfast, then this is your place!

The best gluten free breakfast option in the Twin Cities!  The strawberry crepes are to die for.

The only downer is the popularity/wait.

Great pancakes and great service!  I knew this was a popular spot so I went extra early so I can get in and out quick.  I got there about 15 minutes after opening and the place was already half full!

Right after you sit down they asked if I wanted coffee.  Of course!  So they filled my cup right away, and kept refilling it throughout my meal.

I originally wanted to try the Dutch Baby, but then the waitress said that it would take 30 minutes to prepare.  Yikes, maybe another day when I have the time.  I ended up trying the Pecan Pancakes.  It was nothing special but it was good and had plenty of pecans.  It came with six flaps and it was way more than enough for one person.

They didn't have that many servers but they were very attentive and helpful.  Overall its a fantastic breakfast joint.  If I'm ever in the area I would definitely go back again.

Simple description of this charming place would be: traditional fare with friendly service. Oh, and pretty awesome pancakes. =)

I was there at a busy hour, yet they were able to quickly seat me in a nice little corner. The waitress was promptly there to take my drink order, and happy to make some recommendations.

I settled for the pancakes, which were delicious. I think I could go back just for those!

First off, we had great service.  Also, they have some great bacon here and it really is thick.

I strayed away from the usual this time and ordered the corned beef hash. It wasn't great but it wasn't terrible. I likely wouldn't order it again. I love pancakes, so I will definitely be back to try more.

It was good. But the reviews talked it up so much that I am afraid that it had nowhere to go but down.

My omelet was fluffy with the veggies and ham throughout (as opposed to folded into the egg). And yes it was huge, and yes I wish I had shared it, and no I am no light eater. The rösti was not browned enough (and was too greasy....which is saying something since it is supposed to be buttery), and I found one of my dining companion's pancakes gummy but quite delightful in flavor (pumpkin with pecans). If it was not busy all the time then I would have chalked it up to a hurriedly made meal, but based on reviews here, it sounds like it is always busy.

With regard to service, I want to note that we did call ahead an hour, and then had to wait an additional 30 minutes. We watched patrons with the same number of guests as us who arrived later than us  get seated before I finally mentioned something. Accidents happen...I get it....(but I forgive quicker when you admit your mistake). The hostess was abrupt on the phone and abrupt at the stand...but then again she was in her teens and is biologically required to feel like everyone is a bother. Our waitress was very nice and personable, but she brought out the warm syrup (and whipped cream) right after we ordered...considering our food didn't come for another 25 minutes it seemed a bit preemptive.

It was good, but I won't be craving it....which is saying something considering breakfast is my favorite meal. Perhaps I should have gotten bacon, the reviews here sound great, and I did lust after a piece that some kid kept waving about. I bet the bacon omelet was amazing, but I was trying not to kill myself before noon. If I go again it will be because I am dining with someone who wants it, not because I suggest it.

Before OPH, I thought pancakes were standard fare - not much you can do to differentiate them.  But ohhhh I could not have been more wrong.  OPH finds a way to make their pancakes distinctly memorable.  They are heaped with whipped cream and butter and come in a zillion flavors.  My favorites are the pecan pancakes and the chocolate chip pancakes.  zomg.

Here's how you run your game at OPH: order an egg dish (my fave is the chorizo scrambler), and it COMES with a side of 3 pancakes thrown in.  Baller.  Also, they will refill your coffee mug about once every 92 seconds, so be prepared for maximal caffeine-ization.

This Edina location is a great spot for a breakfast meeting - this place is old school, the servers have personality-plus, and you'll feel the charm the moment you walk in.

Side note: I recently deviated from my normal menu choices and went big on the apple pancake.  Truthfully, I was a bit disappointed; it wasn't all it's cracked up to be.  My advice: stick with the eggs, hashbrowns, and killer pancakes.

Also, if you're going to OPH, don't get an omelette.  They taste alright, but it's not anything special.  Unless of course you're low-carbing it...then it's an acceptable option.

This place IS an institution. Everyone who goes here becomes somewhat of a regular because the food is so fantastic. The rolls-royce of homemade style dishes is right here.

The Original Pancake House--of course their pancakes are fluffy and delectable, but that's not even the half of it. Their apple crepes are rich and satisfying, with pecans, cinnamon roasted apples, and a sweet sour cream filling (one of my faves here). Their omelets are big enough to feed a normal person for a whole day. Delicious and juicy with fresh fillings and ingredients. Their hash browns are perfection. A massive cake of warm potato sticks with a salty crusty outside--they're the perfect partner for any breakfast/brunch and taste excellent dipped in runny egg yolk. The whole wheat waffle is crispy and light, for those of us who like to eat healthy even when we go out. The sliced bananas are unheard of. Slices of just-ripe banana suspended in creamy whole milk with sprinkle-your-own sugar on top. Little bit of heaven right there. And so unexpected. The apple pancake is, I'm sorry, not a pancake. It's the biggest single item you could ever receive on a plate. Dense, appley, caramely, yummy. Finally, the pancakes are fluffy and cute. My favorite are the buckwheat pancakes (healthy!) with the strawberry pancake toppings. But they have pretty much any kind of pancake you can think of.

The waitstaff is so friendly and attentive. Clearly, the atmosphere of this place is not supposed to be upscale or trendy. It's supposed to be like the best breakfast you've ever had at home with your family in a comfortable environment. There are no worries when you go here.

Except for the fact that it's hard to get a table without having to wait forever. But the food and experience are totally worth that wait.

This is definitely the place to go for the best omelet ever!Thickest, fluffiest, chock full of "toppings". Half have meat and the others don't, no boring meatless options. I love their thick cut bacon, and if you get the bacon omelet, they are NOT stingy with the amount they throw in there! I love the omelet with jalapenos & cilantro, and plenty of other stuff.

Don't forget to pair your omelet with roesti potatoes, their hash browns with onions. The toast comes with (or you can get 3 small cakes) and it comes with homemade jelly.

They have sugar in the raw for the coffee, they also have real hot chocolate served with side of whip & mini chocolate chips. The orange juice is fresh squeezed, pulpy and definitely not watered down.

Great coffee, fast paced atmosphere, almost always crowded - so plan on a long wait or call ahead to get wait time cut in half.

I have only been disappointed in their crepes, not very flavorful and raw tasting.

Five stars on a weekday, but three on a Sunday.

I really like this place, so I'll do my best to remember not to go back on a weekend.  Even if you call ahead (which we totally did, obvs!) you will still be told at least a 20 minute wait.  After 30 minutes, you'll start to feel cranky.  The limited space to walk between tables, the tightness of the booths, the oh hey there's free coffee but nobody can move so please don't spill on me and please let there not be a fire, and just the overall "We don't have to care too much about service bc everyone is willing to wait" 'tude mean I start to get hangry.

The food will still be amazing, but by the time it arrives (slow...) it will almost not seem worth it.  But --

The food is good.  Really good.  The bacon is prefect. Chocolate chip pancakes = exactly the right amount of chips.  Things with cheese = too much, but they generally get small special orders like less cheese correct. (I wouldn't risk it on a Sunday though)  Unless you end up feeling rushed to get to your next event, you'll get over the wait and start feeling smug bc we all know there's a long wait at the far inferior chain just a half mile away.  Though to be fair, OPH has much higher prices than Perkins.

The popularity of this place is pretty obvious from the moment you walk in. 8:30 a.m. on a Saturday, and the lobby was standing room only. Fortunately, they seemed to have their ish together, and we got a table in 20 minutes or so.

The atmosphere of the place is cozy: kind of old-timey, homey, lots of wood booths, dark green floral wallpaper, ornate windows and fixtures. Our server was very friendly and helpful... she'd get an A+ if not for the fact that she sort of disappeared when we were ready to pay our check, take our leftovers, and go home already.

The menu is enormous, with a huge variety. I wanted to try the famous Dutch Baby, but I was a little intimidated by the directive in the menu to "check with your server on current cook times." Maybe some time when it's not a crazy-busy weekend morning.

I had the chorizo scramble, which was warm, flavorful, and satisfying. It came with three buttermilk pancakes; way too much food, but we love leftovers. They advertise maple syrup, but it tasted like regular old Mrs. Butterworth's to me. Which is alright, because the pancakes themselves were pretty delish. My leftovers will get the real maple syrup treatment here at home, which will be even better, right?

Woke up dehydrated and hungry after a night of drinking...and the wives didn't want to get off the couch, so we ordered some take out for breakfast. It ended up being a good idea since there was like 30 people sitting at the entrance lobby. Brought our food back and ate right away...suckers!

Wife and I got the corned beef hash with poached egg...totally awesome and hit the spot. Came with pancakes and also ordered a extra side of hashbrowns. Both were good. I also ordered the apple pancake which was a  2inch thick pancake with granny smith apples and cinnamon on top...pretty epic and delicious...very sweet and doughy...probably better to share between 4 people...Good breakfast spot.

So far... this is my FAVORITE breakfast spot in the Cities.

I am a creature of habit, in that I typically always get the same thing - - 2 eggs overhard, turkey sausage, and the coconut pancakes. MMMMMM.... (Seriously, if you try the maple syrup over the coconut pancakes it tastes like the Girl Scout Coconut Delite/Samoa cookies!!)

Always have had friendly, fast, and attentive service here!

This place does fill up pretty fast, so get here early or be prepared to wait.

Lately, their WiFi has not been working... so that's the only bummer for me. (But I love this place so much -- i'm not taking any stars away!)

Yes, it definitely does have that "Grandma's House" decor rockin' inside -- but it tastes so good!!

OPH is a nostalgic family favorite that I must visit every time I'm back home. I am still fascinated by the weird green fabric wallpaper in the main dining room that is covered with carnivorous-looking flowers, and I have such fond memories of nestling into a big wooden booth to sip hot chocolate (served in a tiny metal pitcher!) on a Sunday morning.

I fell in love with their potato pancakes long before I had any idea what a latke was, and the love affair lives on. My Jewish husband tells me that if you are a Jew, you can have them with applesauce OR sour cream, but not both. As someone who survived 14 years of Catholic school, I am bound by no such rules, and will always giddily slather mine with both! I wish I knew their secret for getting the edges lacy and crisp without burning the cakes, because I crave them hardcore and can't have them 98% of the time. My Dad is a fan of the Eggs Maxie, a delicious benedict-like heart attack on a plate consisting of a split English muffin topped with sausage patties and poached eggs, and then slathered with a sherry mushroom gravy. Not for everyday, but so good!

There is usually a significant wait, but it's for good reason. You can call ahead, and there is free coffee while you wait. And it's a Sunday, so where do you have to be anyway?

This is absolutely, without a doubt, the best breakfast food I've ever had.
Yes, it is always busy, but it is certainly worth the wait!  Also, an easy way to get around the wait, is call ahead!

Everything i've ever had there is delicious.  OPH even finds a way to make small things such as coffee and even their toast taste superior.

The wait staff knows the menu like the back of their hand, and are very quick to refill your cup of coffee.

The 49ers are a must have.  Huge in diameter, yet thin.  Best pancakes in town!  Their bacon is also to die for.  They have it butchered and cured specifically for their restaurant.  It is nice and thick, and never too chewy, nor too crisp.  Always cooked to perfection!

If you're looking for an amazing breakfast, this is the place to go!

This place always has long lines and sometimes the service is a bit lacking. However the pancakes here are awesome. The 49er flapjacks are thin little pancakes that are a little dense. These remind me of crepes but a little denser than that.

The potato pancakes are my favorite. These are a great savory breakfast, especially with either the applesauce (the whole salty and sweet thing) or the sour cream topping. They do not taste like hash browns but rather more like a perfect potato dish.

The banana pancakes or the pecan pancakes are just about perfect as well. I rarely use syrup on any of these. Normally I just use the putter and maybe the whipped cream. A meal for four never cost more than 50 including tip and I always leave full so it's always worth the wait.

Save for the new room that was added at some point (through the waiting area just past the bathrooms), I love the whole layout of this restaurant.  Each room feels like a comfortable dining room and I especially love the huge, wooden booths that line most of the walls.  The newest room is just too simple and boring, not matching the decor of the main restaurant, and thus we simply wait a bit longer to not sit their.

I never even realized that OPH was a chain growing up, always assuming it was a privately owned and operated hidden gem.  Regardless, I love the food here and have never been disappointed, although I have certainly left with stomach aches.

The hash browns here are my favorite without question.  I love me some fried potato shreds and have tried them all over the country, but these guys take the gold.  Always crispy perfection on the outside and filled with butter and onion and delicious...Plus the portions are pretty ridiculous.  The omelettes are good as well, and while they claim that they're three or four eggs, im pretty sure there's nearly ten in each one.  Share one, or prepare for leftovers.

Often times a long long wait and they won't accept reservations, but still, worth it.  Tons of wonderful, overfed family memories.

When you think of Marshall Erikson's family and the stereotypical Minnesotan, you will find this place filled with them. It makes for great people watching. You will feel like you've landed in somebody's crowded 1985 decorated cabin with standard diner entrance. Somewhat out of place in a strip mall.

The real point I'm trying to make is, don't expect to eat healthy - just expect to eat well. Everything is served steaming fresh, delcious, hearty, and in large portions. Prepare to bust out your scale, guilt, and "maybe I'll better tomorrow"s!

Maybe because this is an older restaurant, or because the decor and service seemed a bit tired, I wasn't overly thrilled with OPH.  The food was brilliant, coffee wasn't, orange juice seemed like canned juice.  Their potato pancakes are outstanding.  Plus, you almost never wait in a line... their space is so large they can seat many people.  Ask for a spot near the fireplace.  It's quite quaint feeling.

Make sure you visit, it's an Edina staple.

The food was good, I had a bacon waffle and sausage patties.
I was seated immediately, probably because I was on my own.
    Clean and comfortable.
The service was crazy fast and attentive. If I took a drink of water or coffee, my glass was refilled within a minute.
My waitress had plenty of tables and still was able to give me a level of service most restaurants never achieve.
Four stars instead of five because nowhere should anyone have to pay $12.71 for a waffle, 2 sausage patties and coffee.
Do all that for under $10 - and I will be happy to give another star.

OPH is by far my favorite place to eat breakfast. I HIGHLY recommend it. I've been coming to OPH with my family for as long as I can remember -- a couple of my aunts even worked there when they were in high school many years ago, so it's a great family place for us.

The atmosphere is very quaint. The wait can be long, but it is well worth it. The food is amazing and the wait staff is really nice. I always get the chocolate chip pancakes and hashbrowns w/ cheddar cheese - so good!

It should be noted that the Edina, MN and Eden Prairie, MN locations are run by the same people and therefore, have the same menu. If you're in MN and try out the Wayzata or Maple Grove locations, it wont be the same.

I like the food so much here that I go on my birthday each year and order the same thing .. apple pancake, hash browns, large orange juice and coffee. The apple pancake is huge and the taste is unique in the southwest metro culinary community. It's truly a sensation. The hash browns are slightly crunchy on the outside and moist and buttery on the inside. The orange juice is first rate freshly squeezed and coffee is very good. My dining companions are relatives who look forward to celebrating my birthday with me. They also have their annual favorites so we all can enjoy a breakfast which we look forward to each year. They tell me the oatmeal with bananas is awesome.

The downside to OPH is the wait to be seated. Some years the wait can be up to an hour if you go on a Sunday morning. We went last Sunday at noon and the wait was only about 15 minutes. Fortunately I have a nice degree of patience and tolerance so the waiting time does not bother me and my demeanor remains pleasant and warm during the waiting period.

Over all, this place rocks for primo breakfast fare plus there's a bathroom on the right. Check it out and thanks for reading my review.

Some people say that bacon makes everything better, and after trying the bacon pancakes at Original Pancake House, I agree. Momma had the strawberry pancakes and gobbled them down quickly. The coffee was pretty amazing for restaurant coffee, and our waitress kept our cups refilled constantly.

But the most amazing part of my experience here actually happened at the table next to us. There was a couple with a 4 or 5 year old little girl, and she had a stuffed unicorn. The waitress (our waitress too), much to the five year old's delight, treated the unicorn with full regard. She took it's order, brought it a cup of invisible coffee, a plate of invisible unicorn food and asked the girl if it was enjoying it's meal. It was the cutest thing ever.

    And real maple syrup!

I have been frequenting this spot for years. Yes, it is a chain, but not really. I have visited them in several states and they range from ok to outstanding. We are lucky to have one of the great ones at the Edina location, I can't vouch for the others.  The egg's Maxwell is unique to this spot and highly recommended.

The only thing that keeps me away are the crowds that line the lobby trying to get in Sunday morning.

Love, love LOVE The Original Pancake House! I have yet to find anything remotely close to their breakfast goodness out in CA.

My favorites are the Pumpkin Pancakes, the Butter Pecan French Toast (sickly sweet, be prepared), and the Sweedish Pancakes with the berries. Oh so good!

Yes, you will wait a bit if you go Saturday morning or Sunday after church. But grab a cup of free coffee and wait it out. You will NOT regret it.

I was once a manager for a vegetable oil manufacturer. Not only did they make vegetable oil, they also made hydrogenated and interesterified fats. If you ever watched the process you would know that metabolizing tranfats such as these is something like digesting the polymers entering your digestive track after gnawing on your garden hose as a mid-day snack.

I'm tempted to believe that the Original Pancake House using nothing but the finest ingredients: butter, lard, and maybe, just maybe, some vegetable oil. I've eaten their eggs, pancakes, hash browns, beacon and omelets and can't think of a single complaint. I view Original Pancake house as a great traditional American breakfast restaurant and will frequent this place frequently.

To the two people who left bad/not so good reviews, I'm wondering if you actually were at a different restaurant and are just a bit confused. One, the OPH DOES have "regular" pancakes (they known as "buttermilk" to the average joe) that are clearly listed on the menu and two, the omelettes ARE baked. This is also clearly listed on the menu so, if you didn't read the description before you (blindly) ordered, that's your own damn fault.

Anyway, this place rules. Sure we waited for about half an hour, but it was a Saturday morning and we're creative types and decided to walk across the street to the Galleria to look at books to pass the time. They have so many different pancake options that I couldn't decide. I ended up having the garden omelette with oatmeal pancakes (they come with 3 of Rusty's impossible-to-find "regular every-day" pancakes or a specialty kind for $1 more.) SO GOOD. I had enough food to take home and eat for dinner, always a plus (Thomas G. mentioned this as if it were a bad thing and I want to know how many times he was dropped on his head when he was a baby.) For being so busy our waitress was definitely on top of things and we didn't wait long for our food and the coffee was always refilled.

This would definitely be a good place to bring your family. I'm not going to bring mine but that's only because Big Mike likes to talk about sex and bowel movements while shoveling his food down. I love my dad, but that's just too much for the Edina types to handle.

I realize that as an individual who doesn't eat pancakes/ sweet food in the morning, this place wasn't entirely to blame, given that the word "pancakes" is in the name of the restaurant. BUT, the meal I got wasn't good at all. The eggs were poorly cooked, and, as a person who enjoys his eggs, that was a major letdown. My friend got the Santa Fe omelette and it was probably baked as it was crusty and brown like an obsessive compulsive tanner, and really bad (according to him). It was massive as well which made for a lot of unfinished food that he didn't want to bring home.

It was a long wait, too, so the fact that the place was really busy may be to blame more than the food itself. Maybe I should have ordered pancakes, as that is their specialty. In any case, this place was a disappointment to me and my friends one morning. I would rather go to a small dive place and get good honest food instead of a busy, wildly hyped-up place like this that inherently cannot provide a quality meal to hundreds of impatient breakfast-goers.
