The prices and times for specials are outstanding at this location. It varies by location, but when 4:30 on a friday provides ample options for cheap delicius sushi, what isnt there to love. The sush we order is always fantastic off the list, the odd thing is when we order the fancier rolls, those are the ones we dont care for....

There is one waitress that is on top of it, but they recently got a male server who actually tried to yell at us for his mistake....granted he is new, he really made the desire for this location lower, but we still return and just attempt to avoid him because you can not beat thier special discounted menu!

Its good, its definitely good. Our chef was, Sam and he was pretty darn good. I had the usual hibachi course with some sake and enjoyed myself. The food was magnificent. It was my birthday and the do that loud birthday routine with the big helmet/mask thing, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. I will continue to bring my business to Osaka.

Rule 1 when serving shrimp: devein it completely. Seriously, guys?? The food was pricey, lacking in flavor, steak was fatty and cold, and service was bare minimum. We won't be back...

For lunch today, a friend and I went here for sushi.   We ordered three rolls:  a rainbow roll, a crunchy roll, and a winter roll.  We also ordered miso soup.  Everything was so delicious.  I couldn't even pick a favorite.  Every time I go here, I'm always impressed.  For sushi, it's a pretty reasonable price.  And for lunch, they offer a 30-50% discount.

I could eat here every day if I could.  So so good!

Hostess all business, no hello, no smile, nothing hospitable.  First thing she said was "How Many?"
I was eating solo and wasn't offered a sushi bar seat so I asked for one.  Normally this is the best seat in the house because you can talk to the chef and watch them work their fishy magic.

My gauge to a good sushi joint is how is their unagi.  The sushi chef looked at me for my order so ordered unagi, Japanese for freshwater eel.  The chef had no idea what I was talking about (bad sign).  He asked me about a few dishes in very broken english and I said "eel," he finally understood.

For lunch they had put together specials consisting of combinations of rolls, sushi and sashimi.  Nothing really caught my eye so I asked for the sushi only menu, a piece of paper that you mark what you want and how many you want.   I put my order on the counter and the waitress said "No, give that to me."  Not, "Excuse me, I'll take that for you."  Nothing at all polite (yeah, the stars are falling....fast).

The waitress did get me some water and I didn't have to ask but I was never offered another drink of any kind.

I ordered salmon, yellowtail, unagi and a sushi roll.  The sushi pieces were very nice size that went well over the rice.  The salmon had the right salmon flavor, the yellowtail was ok but was a tad chewy. The unagi was nice and flavorful so thats points to me.  There was no wasabi on the sushi at all, just on the side.  The pickled ginger was not very pickled, I was very disappointed there because I love the stuff.

When I was done the waitress put the bill next to me and didn't say a word.  I paid and left and nobody even acknowledged that I was leaving, there were two at the front counter looking for apartments or houses on the computer.

Would I come back or recommend this place?  No way!!  The service was awful but the food was ok.  Will stick with the better sushi joints when I have that fishy itch.

When did Osaka turn into an alternative to Chuck e Cheese for childrens' birthday parties? My wife and I went to the Osaka in Bloomington on Saturday night and every tepanyaki table (including ours) was populated with families with children.  The recorded "Haaappy Birthday, Happy Birthday!" song was playing every five minutes, complete with servers pounding drums. Yes, the tepanyaki experience is part dining, part show, and our table-side chef was reasonably proficient with his knifes. For the adults at the table, he accurately squirted sake into the mouths of several of them for a protracted period of time and then he accurately flipped a piece of shrimp down the cleavage of the young woman seated next to my wife - twice in a row! Really?  This was not the dining experience that we were looking for! GROSS!

Osaka is my "go to" restaurant for sushi, especially when I have a craving outside of happy hour times.  They have a large list of discounted sushi - Much more than most happy hours.  Also, the service is very quick and pleasant.

I will admit that the quality may not be absolute top of the line, but it is still better than many of the high priced sushi places that just use "sushi" as the justification for their prices.  A discounted roll from Osaka is generally cheaper (and definitely fresher) than any roll you pick up at a fancy grocery store.

Osaka is usually where I take friends who are just learning about sushi.  That way that we can experiment with likes and dislikes and if we order something that they don't like, it not an expensive loss.

Bottom line, I would recommend Osaka to both those new and experienced with sushi.

I love Osaka's for both their hibachi and their sushi, but let me just rave about their excellent deals on sushi for a minute...

They have a happy hour.... unfortunately I don't know the exact time it goes until, but I know that if you get there around 5/5:30 that it is definitely going on.  You get a wide variety of sushi/sashimi for 30-50% off.  What a steal!!  As we all know, sushi can get to be quite pricey.  30-50% is quite helpful for those of us who love sushi, but are living on a budget.  Now, I don't claim to be any kind of sushi aficionado, but I CAN tell you that their sushi has always been consistently delicious every time I've tried it.  My boyfriend who normally doesn't like sushi is in love with their Spicy Snow Crab Rolls (i'm still working on getting him to like tuna!).  I have to agree with him that they are quite delicious, but I am also a huge fan of their tuna, salmon, and yellowtail.  If you go, I recommend their Bloomington Roll with is a mix of tuna, salmon, and avocado.

Their hibachi is quite delicious as well.  Very similar to Benihana's.  I don't really have a preference as to which place I like better.  Although it IS nice that at Osaka's they include Teriyaki Lo-Mein noodles to your hibachi experience for no extra cost.  The chef's are very entertaining (assuming you actually get an asian chef; sorry if that statement seems racist, I don't intend it to be.  I'm just saying from my personal experience that the chefs of other races don't seem to be quite as good at properly executing the tricks), and the food is downright delicious, and always very filling.  Most people I know struggle to finish their meal, but that is never an issue for me. (I always get my money's worth)

Also, an extra perk about this location is that if you are signed up for the Valpak coupon book, they will send you coupons for this location every single month.  The coupons change, but they usually consist of three separate Dinner for 2 coupons, one 10% off hibachi coupon, and a 30-50% off sushi coupon which can be used when it's not their Happy Hour.

Overall I love Osaka's!  They never disappoint me, and I always leave very full and content that I got my money's worth.

I was waiting a long time for this place to open then just never had a chance to try it.  We sat down at the bar until our party was complete,  I had a a couple of 22oz Sapporo's during the wait checking out the Sushi Bar 20 feet on the other side.  We went to a Hibachi table and went ahead with the Hibachi.    I did the Filet/Lobster with the fried rice.  Great stuff, we ordered a four orders of sushi on the side tuna and salmon rolls (I was really stuffed I should have gone with iced tea).  72 seconds of Rice Wine BTW.  Great food, great time.

This is my go-to for easy, brainlessly easy, satisfying "starter" sushi, sushi on those many a "what do you want?" lazy weeknights.

I've ordered off the full price menu and off the incredibly budget friendly specials menu and I'd say Osaka really shines at the lower end - simple rolls, fresh and tasty, knock back a Sapporo.

Do not go here looking for the kind of authenticity and economy of style that you'd look for at, say Obento-ya.

This does the job of being a million times better than grocery store sushi at grocery store prices.

Laid back room, service was direct and attentive.

Actually I should give them FOUR (4) STARS, but based on this time experience
(beef was tough & chewy), I gave THREE (3) only.

Osaka have several locations in MN and my opinion is just for this location only.
Have been here 2-3 times, it's easy to get table (for Japanese Menu) without reservation than Teppanyaki.

Love their Squid Ginger Yaki, is a die for item, we always had this whenever we were there, their's better than every other locations. But not the fan of Beef Negimaki at all, beef were tough and chewy.

Ordered a Beef Teriyaki Complete Box which Beef just not good as I expected, also tough and chewy as Beef Negimaki.
Guess I should not expect good beef at shushi restaurant, my bad.  :(

Hubby had a Sashimi Complete Dinner Box which was better than beef box. (Sashimi rule!!)

Overall, will I come back again?   YES!   Because the hotel we stay is just across the highway.  But in the future, I'll just stick with Squid Ginger Yaki and Sashimi meal only.

I have to admit, I was nervous in heading to the 'burb's (Sorry- I live DT), for sushi, but turns out I had a great time at dinner! We checked in on Facebook online to get a deal 50% Off Sushi! Between the four of us, we ordered about 10 different rolls! I highly recommend the Osaka roll, but deter you away from the Dragon roll. I'm a big sushi fanatic, but the fish was overpowering on that roll.

If they would improve the "Shrimp Sauce" by taking away the pickle taste, they could easily take Benihana out of the competition. We had the Steak, lobster, shrimp and scallops for two and were very happy with not only the food, but the price and portion size. The shrimp was slightly over cooked but everything else was spot on. Our chef was fun, talented and seemed to want to entertain us rather then just cook our food and get us out the door.

I'm in love with Osaka.  If I lived closer, I might be tempted to scrap my kitchen and just rely on theirs.

The sushi specials at Osaka are RIDICULOUS.  Every time I go, there is a half-price list.  One can eat quality sushi at the price of buying the grocery store stuff... hell, even less than that.  And the key to making that work, of course, is the quality.  It may not be the highest notch of fish in the entire universe, but it's still high, so it never feels like you're eating at the tremendous discount you're actually getting.

The waitstaff is almost too helpful at times, but that's better than not.  It takes time to go through their huge list of rolls and other items and to narrow things down.  It's been my experience that by the time I've got my checklist completed, the server has been by at least 4 times.  I've got my favorites, sure, but I need to look at everything to make sure I'm not missing something awesome.  I need 10-15 minutes, yo.

The speed of sushi delivery varies, however.  Obviously if it's busy, one should expect that one will not get their fish immediately.  But I don't know that the restaurant's occupant volume has ever truly predicted when our sushi was ready for the table.  Still, it's sushi, it's never speedy.

Here's to many more lovely dinners at Osaka with fishies swimming in my tummy making friends.

Though our hibachi chef was excellent and the food was good (average), the waitresses' unfriendly manner is what ruined the experience for my wife and I.  The servings were actually smaller than I expected, which isn't that big of a deal but the waitress charged us for things on our check that we never even had or even ordered.  When I brought it to her attention she didn't say a word, just took the check, brought it back fixed and never offered an apology or anything.  Terrible service.

I'm originally from Minnesota and came back for a visit. My family decided to try this place out.

There were 9 of us on a Monday night, we made reservations for a Habachi table in the afternoon for 6:30. We got there at 6:15 and the terrible host didn't seat us until 7:00 because he said we needed to wait for a full table (3 more people). I was already livid- why take a reservation if you don't seat the people at the right time?

Long story short, the service was terrible, mostly the host who was rude and inefficient. The chef was good and the salad was good. But there is no reason this needs to be a 2 hour ordeal.

None of us will ever go back.

First I will say that the food is awesome! But I have to mention the fact that the service was terrible. when we walked in we weren't greeted. The host was on his phone. Our server had no idea about the specials or whether the fish was fresh or not- hello- sushi! He didn't come by and check on us once, even though my friend wanted to order more food. He had to ask another server passing us. (She was awesome.) When we left, the host was again on his phone and didn't thank us or anything. It was quiet horrible service. But like I said the food was amazing.

It's all about the lunch specials at Osaka.  Gosh it was a pleasant break from the grind today.  From my office in Centennial Lakes, it's less than a mile to strut my stuff into Osaka.  The service is prompt, and it's smiles all around from the staff (LITERALLY no less than 6 different staff gave me a warm smile and hello...heck, for someone like me, it makes a difference).

Crazy twist in our lunch plot: the host (who happened to bring the check) noticed that my brohan Chris S. had a Best Buy badge holstered, so said host offered us the heretofore unknown Best Buy discount (10% off).  Considering we didn't ask about it (or even know about it), it was pretty impressive service.

For $8 at lunch, you get miso soup and your choice of two sushi rolls (6 pieces each).  Or you can go Wolfpack Style and get 3 rolls for $11.  That's 18 pieces of sushi for $11!!  PROTEIN AND CARBS BABY!  Great pre-or-post-workout nutrition right there.  Alas, I digress.  The list of options is extensive (19 different rolls, if memory serves) - as compared to some joints, where discounted sushi is only offered on a limited menu.  The spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail were phenomenal: plenty of fish, rolled well, and great texture in my mouth (can you tell I still have almost NO concept of how to describe the taste of sushi?!)

This is a great option for a quick workday lunch.  The ambiance is perfect - the place is quiet, designed well, and clean/shiny/new.

My family and I just happened to stop into this place after shopping at Target. I must say we were very pleased. The service is really good and the wait staff is very attentive. We feed a family of five on three entrees. And I wasn't sure about some of the more exotic choices but I tried them anyway and was very pleased. The wife had the dinner plate, I had veggie hibachi, and both kids shared  a junior chicken hibachi. All entrees we very tasty and good( smartly retooled for American taste)
. Even the art and decor is very nice even in the restrooms.

Don't you just hate emptying your wallet for lunch?  I mean, seriously, LUNCH of all things?  And isn't it just so much worse when it's a workday, and you have to fork over half of your day's pay just to gain enough sustenance to make it through the rest of your day?  I couldn't agree more.

Well, do I have the delectably economic solution for you: Osaka!  Now, if you don't like sushi, you might as well stop reading right now and find somewhere else to eat.  However, if you're like me and are a sushi-loving, thrifty-minded, working stiff, you can't go wrong with the lunch menu at the Southtown Osaka.  For a mere $8, you can choose two rolls from a list of about 12-15.  If you're extra hungry or just feel like gorging, you can have three rolls for just $11!  I love love love the shrimp tempura and yellowtail.  The spicy salmon is also very good (but not as good as the shrimp tempura or yellowtail).  And, no, it's not the best sushi I've ever tasted, but for the price, it's great, and I would recommend it to everyone in the area.

One thing to note: If you're in a hurry, order your lunch and tell your server that you would like to have your bill right away.  On all of my visits (to date, maybe five?), the service has been painfully slow.  On the first two visits, I don't think we saw our server for 20 minutes after we received our lunch.  I'm guessing the servers are probably in the back eating the shrimp tempura and yellowtail--I would be if I was working there.

Service can be a little on the slow side sometimes. Especially if there's a birthday party w/ Hibachi going on.  But the servers are pretty nice.  Sushi is actually better than i expected seeing as it's a chain restaurant.

FYI, this place DOES NOT have All You Can Eat sushi.  I had been here a few times and was wondering where someone would get that idea as that's not listed on the menu at all and finally called @ some point to see if it were true and they don't have that.

But they DO have all day 50% off deals.  I went w/ 2 other ppl and after ordering a large hot sake,  2 beers, and 9 or 10 special rolls, the bill was only like $80 which is actually good.

This place is fairly close to my house, so that makes me a happy girl.

My co-worker has been talking about how great this place is for awhile so she finally got me to go today for lunch and it Was Great! They have these "box" lunches that have a good number of options that you can have in the box. I had the box with 3 sushi pieces (shrimp, crab stick and salmon) and they were all very fresh tasting. Along with that in the box came white rice, a california roll, 3 fried tofu and miso soup. I Will go back there for sure!

Visited the sushi bar here. It took a while for the host to get around to seating us, but once we were, I was impressed. The sushi was well made and tasty- both myself and the bf, who had zero sushi experience, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm not completely positive, but I'm pretty sure that rolls at the bar are half price all the time. The price per roll ranged from 2.5 for californias and phillys to 6 for specialty rolls. We ordered six rolls between the two of us for less than $20, and left stuffed. Their alcohol is a bit on the expensive side, but they have a huge selection of Asian beers and an acceptable wine list.

Despite being out in the 'burbs, I definitely see us coming back here. The location is nice, the price is right and the quality is surprising. I recommend this place to anyone with a sushi craving and a budget.

Visited Osaka during a client visit in Bloomington.  Parking lot was pretty crowded on a Wed evening, so I had a feeling I was in for some good sushi.  I saw down a very modern sushi bar... granite countertop, shiek blue tile, and  large HDTV.  There was a drink just opposite of the sushi bar.  Sushi chefs greeted me as a I saw down.... always a welcome sign of good service.

Unlike other yelpers, I saw no mention of an "all-you-can-eat-sushi" menu option.  However, my waitress handed me a sheet with a wide selection of maki rolls that were all 50% off ($2-8) including some special rolls. I ordered 5 rolls from this menu: mushroom/avacodo roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, crazy roll, and spicy girl roll.

The service was excellent... my rolls were out in less than 10 mins.  The presentation was very good. I really enjoyed the mushroom/avocado roll to begin... haven't seen that veggie combo before.  The spicy tuna roll, which is my sushi restaurant litmus test, was quite good as well... nice balance of heat and sweet.  Spicy girl roll was probably the best of the best of the bunch.  Rainbow roll was decent.  I didn't realize that the Crazy roll was deep fried... something I'm not a big fan of.  Nonetheless, the roll was HUGE.... about futomaki sized and was OK.

All together with a beverage, my total tab was $38.... not a bad for the amount of sushi I had.  Would definitely recommend this place.

I usually avoid all-you-can-eat places because I never get my money's worth. But I definitely ate more than $25 worth of sushi at Osaka.

Service was initially slow - it took way too long to ladle some miso soup into a bowl and carry it out, and we had no napkins/silverware until we stole some from a neighboring table. However, once we got going, the servers were very good about seeing when we were running low and asking us if we wanted to order more. So once the food started coming, it just keep coming. The choices on the all-you-can-eat menu are surprisingly extensive - 10-12 specialty rolls to choose from, 8-10 appetizers, sushi/sashimi by the piece, a handful of salads, fried rice/noodles, dessert. I highly recommend the green tea ice cream. It was incredible. I would go back just for that.

All you can eat sushi for $25 a person?!  Hell yeah!

If your loved one cringes at the idea of eating raw fish, it's okay.  They had a lot more than just sushi on the all-you-can-eat menu.  There were appetizers, tempura, teriyaki, udon noodles (both soup and stir-fry), and even ice cream for dessert.  There were a lot of sushi rolls that contained all cooked ingredients, too.  Here's how it works.  They give you a menu and you order what you want.  They make it fresh and bring it out to you ... and when the wait staff notice that you're food supply is getting low, they ask you what else you would like to eat and bring out that food before you are down to nothing.

My friend and I had (deep breath - my stomach hurts just reliving this): miso soup, seaweed salad, calamari, gyoza, ika sansai (a squid salad in a sweet/sour vinaigrette), lisa lisa roll (x2), spicy girl roll, spider roll (x2), dragon roll, yummy yummy roll, spicy tuna roll, red tuna sashimi, and green tea ice cream.  There were only two of us ... and I'm sure the waiter was shocked at how much we packed away.

Luckily, the wait staff at Osaka are nice and too polite to call attention to my overindulgence.  I thought that maybe the wait staff would start making themselves scarce or start acting snotty to make us leave, but they didn't.  The service was great.

The food was wonderful.  I'm actually a bit shocked at how good it is, considering it's a place in the suburbs.  The seaweed salad was a little too salty, but the other appetizers made up for it.  The gyoza were perfectly done (none of that hardened crust that you get at some other places), the calamari was crisp on the outside and cooked just right on the inside (not raw, but not tough and rubbery either).  My favorites were the Lisa Lisa roll, the Yummy Yummy roll, and the green tea ice cream.  The Spider roll was good the first time around, but the second one was prepared a little differently and I didn't think it was as good.

I took one star away because (1) we didn't receive any utensils when we received our food (we had to grab some off of an empty table), (2) it took a while to get our food and the table behind us received their food before us even though they were seated and ordered after us, and (3) the slightly different preparation of the sushi the second time around.  Having said that, it's obvious they care about customer service given the behavior of the wait staff and the comment card that came with the check.  Actually, I would give them 4.5 stars if I could because the experience itself really was great, but there was a tiny bit of room for improvement.

Sushi in the suburbs usually gets raised eyebrows from friends... but just stick with me.

Osaka is good.  It's not fancy.  It's not flashy.  It often feels a little rushed.  However, for being in the 'burbs - which are not usually considered places to find diverse foodtastes - Osaka does a great job.

I have been to Osaka half a dozen times, and have always had great quality sushi.  The quality, in my opinion, is no better and no worse than the quality of sushi at Azia.  It's a lot cheaper than Azia, so it saves me a trip to Eat Street and saves me from an experience with the odd clientele at Azia.  :)

Osaka also offers Hibachi.  We've ordered a few sides of the hibachi items, which were fine, but were nothing to rave about.  The hibachi friend rice is good, the hibachi veggies are good but cut small and served in a small portion, and the hibachi beef is cut into very small bites that it's a bit underwhelming.  I have no idea if the full hibachi dinner is different than the side items - but I'd just go to Benihana if I wanted hibachi.

The service at Osaka is a bit spotty - not bad, but not stellar.  The one thing that has been consistent is the push for you to order almost immediately.  Every time we have been there, no sooner than we have our coats off is someone asking for our order.  We always say - give us a few minutes - and several different servers are back with us within a minute to ask again.  It's annoying and happens every time that we've been there, but it's not enough to keep us away.  The servers seem to tag team the tables, which I am not a huge fan of.  I'd rather just have my one server so that I can tip based on the quality of their service, not the quality of the group.  Some are more worthy of 20% than others.

The bar area is the trendy looking side of the restaurant - modern tile up to the ceiling, funky pendant lights, big screen tvs and high bar stools.  The dining side of the restaurant is decorated very 1998 asian buffet restaurant - and the booth seats aren't bolted to the floor, so don't push back and slide the guest on the other side into their table!  The two areas are divided with a half wall topped with bamboo plants.  It doesn't really flow together well, but again, not reason enough to keep me away.

I wish I could give Osaka a 3.5 total.  4 stars for the food, 3 stars for the atmosphere & service.  Overall, not a bad place, especially not for the 'burbs.  They have several other locations which seem to be very popular.
