Stay away, especially if you want gluten free food!

We went there to celebrate my birthday. I picked this place because their menu online was labeled with gluten free items. I "assumed" the establishment was knowledgeable about the potential harms of gluten for some people. When we arrived at the restaurant, the waitress was less than helpful. I told her that I needed my food to be gluten free.  When I asked if they had gluten free beer, she answered, "I have no idea, can't you have something else?"  After hearing the annoyance in the waitress's voice, my daughter replied today is my mom's birthday. Then I asked about gf items on the menu that the waitress was unable to answer nor did she offer to check. So I decided I better play it safe here and go with a GLUTEN FREE salad.

After waiting some time, we finally got our food. I received my salad and took a bite. It was a crouton! I motion the waitress over and ask her to take it back. Her first comment in annoyance, was that they have been serving this dish for awhile and no one has ever complained about croutons not being gluten free!  Then the manager came over to apologize but provided the same excuse. Obviously, she does not understand what gluten free means!  Needless to say, it was not a very happy birthday night.

On a side note, one of the other people in my party who is not gluten free, ordered the prosciutto covered chicken.  He said it was so dry that he needed a steak knife to carve into it.
Stay away!

Painters has really upped their game.  Tavern food at its best.   Wine by the glass selections are well matched to the entrees.  The food is much better than previous years and is consistently good across the board.  A roaring fire in Winter, outdoor cafe seating in Summer, lively bar scene year-round ... in the heart of the village.  Good times.

Food is VERY good. We had their amazing duck egg rolls. Our dinners were delicious, as well. Service was very good. Got to chatting with our waitress who was very sweet and attentive. The inside of the restaurant needs a bit of a face lift and a better way to display the beautiful painters they have distributed all over.
