Our current go-to place for Cantonese. This place has significantly better fried and white rice than its local competition. I really like its BBQ pork while my wife prefers more sauce with it, so, Mama-Say, Mama-Sah, Ma-Ma Coo Sah,* you try it and be the judge. One complaint: parking is tight here, but still better than anything in Chicago.
* I had to throw that in. My almost eight year old son is sitting on my lap and I wanted to get a giggle out of him from reading it. It worked.
This is now my go to spot for authentic Cantonese food. Amazing. Just a 10 minute drive from Jefferson Park. Super hot, homemade mustard. Homemade BBQ sauce for the BBQ pork. Food is fresh and not layered in corn starch and tasteless brown sauces like most local places. Give The Palace a shot, you will not regret it!
Review Source:I hang in Morton Grove and thank God, I have found some decent chinese! Â I had been so tired of China Chef amd who wants to drive more then 20 min for good Chinese. Â Gottta ditto the chicken fried rice; CHUNKS of chicken and not the leftover type that has been reheated a doz times. Â I'm really bad on menu recall but I will return and so should you.
Review Source:This is the best of several good Chinese restaurants on Waukegan Rd , Morton Grove. Not easy to spot when you are driving by, but slowdown and try this Gem. Food is not only excellent but good portions for the price. Great waiter was very helpful, cashier friendly and knew how to smile. They don't serve wine BUT HOLD ON..you can bring your own bottle of wine and the will serve you. We each had the Polynesian Combination, outstanding served with rice..included is an eggroll, soup, fortune cookie and almond cookie...had to take half of our order home..lucky us..we will return with our wine. Hope to see their.
Review Source:Thumbs up all the way! simple, pure delicious chinese cusine. Their menu is so extensive and if you have a large palette and one that tries everything, they have great unique dishes, large portions and soooo flavorful and the ingredients are fresh. Try the Red hot ming choy...delicate jumbo shrimp with pork loin spicy light garlic sauce with green peppers and bemuda onions.yum. The mongolian beef is the best and house made egg rolls are Fab! Â They are family owned and the workers are ALL family.Their story is just wonderful.
Review Source:I like the Palace a lot. Reasonable and very good Cantonese food. Probably food is a 4 and the service is definately a five. Great value and very comfortable. Judy is great and I never heard someone speak totally unaccented English and switch to Chinese w/o missing a beat. I come a lot for the lunch specials and they have a thriving take out business.
Review Source:I have eaten at the Palace since I was fifteen and I am now fifty. I was initially worried when Mr. Louie sold to this very nice family (now it's been years and years), but I shouldn't have been. Judy, John and their family are wonderful hosts and the food is still great.
I absolutely love the Shrimp Tiki. Spaghetti noodles with tons of shrimp, black bean sauce and garlic - YUM. The egg rolls are wonderful- I dream about them in my sleep. The Shanghi-beef is very moist (too eggy for my boyfriend), so we get the Mongolian Beef- which we both love. I'm an egg person and I think the made to order Egg Fu Yung (Palace version with all the different meats) is terrific.
Judy and John, the hosts are a wonderful brother and sister team (I couldn't work with my brother without us killing each other) and Peter the waiter and the others are great, too. We've been to Chicago's Chinatown and I must say, this is just as good and has free parking!
We live in Skokie and we have tried all the Chinese restaurants close to us, this is the best for this area. A few in Evanston do good as well, but a bit too far for those Chinese takeout nights. We have been spoiled by choices we had living in Chicago. Rather typical offerings.
Also not sure if Cantonese style is different, but I suspect the restaurant just uses this as a generic name, but some dishes such as General Tsao is not what I'm used to it was more like sweet and sour chicken.
Conclusion: Why 3 stars not 5
Dishes just okay in comparison to other Chinese restaurants, but best for this area. Would order again (carryout) for easy Chinese that's not too bad.
Good golly miss molly! I need some Chinese Food. This is the ONLY Chinese restaurant in Chicago that has my loyal patronage. And I mean I eat at other Chinese places, but I mean to say that THIS is the only place I know when I go back to I'm going to get quality food for decent prices and end up being Veeeeeeryyy satisfied at the end of my meal.
If you want to sit in, it almost feels like a little spot you could just relax, have some tea and a little lunch and write your epic book on space time and physics that will blow the minds of the world away at. It's a cute place for that sort of thing. Very quiet in there, OH and rice candies! You can buy them up by the cash register and they are ta-sty! Also, almond cookies...Yum. Best almond cookies I've ever had have NOT come from a bakery, but from Palace!
Call your order in, pick it up. Easiest way to do it. Those little fried noodles are as addictive as a drug, make sure to get a box or so of those! Also, ming beef, sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoon, chicken fried rice (I like chicken), veggie egg rolls...all my favorites over there.
The portions are VERY generous in take out at least. You'll have leftovers, and believe me I can throw down crazy style and still have leftovers that are equally as tasty the next day.
I have eaten here since I was a toddler. (I'm 29 now)
It simply doesn't get better than this place for chinese takeout in this area. The food is delicious, consistent, and generously portioned. The family that runs it is extremely nice, and you can tell that they take great pride in the food they serve.
It hasn't changed much... okay at all, since I was going as a little kid. But I like that. While a little bit of change is good, it's nice to have something that you can always count on being the same. It's especially nice when that place can serve such outstanding food consistently throughout the course of your life.
For me, nothing beats going to Palace on a Saturday night and enjoying a full course dinner. Living within walking distance helps too, because this is one meal you should definitely walk off.
I eat here often, usually with the in-laws. Â They love it. Â I can't say it's the best Chinese I've ever had, but I've had really good stuff from SF and So Cal all my life. Â The family that runs it is extremely nice. Â They always remember us and are very sweet to my daughter. Â I really like them, so I always enjoy going back. Â Try their sesame beef. Â And their hot and sour is killer. Â
The ambience is like your typical Chinese restaurant. Â A little bit old school and run down, but personally, I like that.
not fancy, take it to go.
Best Chicken Fried Rice in Chicago - lots of chicken, rice dark from old fashioned soy sauce. Mongolian Beef is also good. I'd kill for a place like this in Lakeview but sadly none exists.
No "americanized" peas and carrots stuff here.
Sincerely,
