I went here on a Friday night. They had a $5 dollar cover. No big deal. But they made me take my hat off and my leather jacket and were rude about it. So that was kinda weird and pointless. We decided to go In anyway because we were meeting people. We went on the patio and the band was actually killer and that's why I give them 1 star. It took a while for us to get a server and even longer to get the drinks we ordered, but it was busy ......
Review Source:I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food I had there tonight but I'm still feeling ugh about the overall atmosphere. First, their bar area still allows smoking. While I've always enjoyed lighting one up every once in a while walking into the bar area was like having someone blow cigarette smoke in your face all night.
We sat in the open restaurant area. Apparently there is a new room where you can place bets on horses. It's not my thing but if you have an itch to throw down a few bucks to make a little coin this may be the spot for you.
Items we ordered: wings (40 cent wings on Wednesdays), lumpia, nachos and a pound of shrimp. The Cajun and Asian Zing flavored wings were pretty good. I'm a BIG nachos fan but these didn't quite make the cut. Their lumpia was blah (I didn't order it). Now for their shrimp...I was quite impressed. They were heavily seasoned served with lemon and melted butter, a phenomenal combination.
I gulped down two 22 oz Bud Light Limes at $4 a piece for their happy hour special. My clients enjoyed a various mix of different beers and we were quite surprised that my girlfriend's rum and coke was only $2.25.
This place has lots of potential but that damn smokey bar...
Truth be told, I've never actually eaten at Paradocks. I have been there for networking event and I have been there for After Parties, but never actually eaten there, so I can really only speak of the atmosphere and the location.
The location is conveniently less than 5 minutes from the Aloft Hotel where our http://www.meetup.com/hr… has our once a month wine tastings. So, Paradocks makes a logical choice for the After Party. When you walk in they have a big dining room area which I believe is smoke-free. Then you go in the next room which is a bar and definitely not smoke-free. You hold your breath and go out to the back patio where they have lots of tables with high chairs and another bar.
It is a laid-back place and a cool swampy vibe to it and I enjoy going there to hang out with my friends.
A other reviews have pointed out, the restaurant side not so good. Waitress could not even remember what the mystery beer on tap was after going and asking the bartender...the bar side typical, but with a few good beers on tap and a friendly bartender when I was there last. Will go back to the bar but not the restaurant.
Review Source:hopefully the owner reads this.
1) turn the volume down on the music. really. its just too loud. Im not old so dont even go there, its just too damn loud. If it was a-list music worth losing our hearing over, okay...but...you know...its not, so turn it down. let us keep our hearing.
2) I came here because smoking was allowed in the bar...HOWEVER...they have some super weird thing against pipes and cigars. Owner...please...think about this...chemical sprayed cigs are allowed to fill the room, but natural, untreated, aged and perfected leaves are not. REALLY? Come on. My 15$ per ounce cigar tobacco smoke would downright GRACE your den. I guarantee you, had I not been stopped from lighting my pipe with some dunhill nightcap 8 people would have come to me saying DUDE that smells awesome. What IS that..
I wont be back until you fix this crime against sensibility and reason.
Out
Love an outdoor bar, especially a covered one! I went here for a b-day happy hour and the outdoor bar had an impressive amount of people for a Wednesday afternoon of flash flooding. Lots of middle aged people smoking cigars that day. Loved the high table and chairs.
Food was decent, buy one get one half off appetizers. Tried the lumpia and mini blue tacos...typical bar food in that it wasn't bad but nothing to get excited about. I don't drink, but heard the drink prices were good. Servers were friendly and stopped by our table to check in every so often. But also no problem flagging someone down whenever we wanted something.
FYI: Indoor bar is smoking.
First, this isn't an indictment of the entire establishment. Â That being said, there isn't one amenities that stands out here. Â The best features is the outdoor eating area and the fact that it morphs into a dance club type establishment, during late nights. Â I say its ok for meeting friends for cheap beers. Â Give it a shot.
Review Source:Went for lunch with my wife on a weekend, good experience and think we'll go back. Â Service was pretty responsive and friendly. Â Food was quite good overall, we especially liked the cheese dip appetizer and my reuben was very good. Â They've got a good beer selection too, with a decent number on tap.
Review Source:I been in this place to eat and to hang out. I went in with a big group last night and they treated us like we inconvenienced them by bringing 24 hungry and thirsty people in. The security staff and waitresses were rude. And the manager literally told us, "We don't need your business, we're the biggest nightclub on the Southside." As if all of that weren't enough, they prevented a lot of their patrons from either going to the bathrooms or returning from the bathrooms because the patio was over capacity. The security staff and waitresses were rude. The food was okay although they mixed up my order but it doesn't cover it by the fact they really don't care if you come there or not as long as you leave your money. Going as a group.. DON'T. Holding your breath as you pass by a smoky room to go out to their patio.. maybe, but don't expect to use their bathroom if it gets too crowded because their security won't let you back in.
Review Source:This place should be the only bar I go to after work ... every day. They should call my name when I walk in the door as I walk over to the right side of the bar and sit next to a guy named Cliff that knows annoying facts about random things... But its not. It just didn't have a fun feel from walking in, its a bar... people should be happy and enjoying themselves. It should not look like a prison sentence.
"The Good"
- The food was decent. Standard Lunch sandwiches, nothing that would make me give up other places as a first choice but it was not bad.
- Plenty of seating, I do not think I have ever seen it filled to capacity.
- Pirate flag outside flying high.
- Cool theme.
- They have a water view.
"The Meh"
- The water view mentioned above is a drainage run off, but if you use your imagination it could be a river...
- They must be understaffed as the server was struggling with a large section. I know its not her fault, but her problem. I know our table was patient but there were a few that were getting grumpy by the end of the meal.
"The Bad"
- The bar is closed off and if you want to go to the deck you have to walk through a room of smoke to get outside. This does not make much sense to me maybe others.
Paradocks is a restaurant/bar that has recently moved to the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. To be honest with you, the place is just alright to me. They do have a nice outdoor deck area but unless the weather is nice it can't really be enjoyed. I've been in here on a Friday night and I just find the place to be somewhat rowdy and overcrowded. The drink prices are alright but I think the food prices are a little high for some of the portions and overall quality. I'd probably only go back to this location if there were a special event going on such as a friend's birthday or some kind of family/friend related activity.
Review Source:Tilapia or Talapia.
That's my review in a nutshell. Â One is a very popular, flaky, white-fish very common amongst seafood restaurants. Â The other has no definition but does show up on the Paradocks Grille menu.
This is tantamount to Longhorn offering a Filay Minyon.
The chicken was bland. Â The hot wings were mild at best. Â The only upside is that they have a large selection on tap. Â But let's not mince words here. Â If you're going to Paradocks for dinner; you're better off drinking it.
Um, I'm not a big fan of Paradocks food in general, I've had it a couple of times and it always leaves something to be desired. So when I come here I usually don't eat anything and I just have a couple of drinks. Now, a good thing about this place is the size - it's huge. It has a nice outdoor patio area and a couple of bars to choose from. They have a wide variety of alcohol to chose from (beer, liquor, wine). However, I have heard from many of my friends that the beer here is never kept quite cold enough, and there's nothing worse than a lukewarm beer.
Service isn't great here either, it's usually slow. I feel like I'm not a priority to the server or bartender when I should be their only priority (well myself and the other customers). This is the kind of place that I will only go to if a friend is having an event there.
I've spent the last 3 nights at Paradocks. Â It's proximity to where I'm staying is so convenient and their hours (11a-2a) are even more convenient.
The bartenders have been great. Â Although I would recommend against sitting at the tables. Â If you go to a bar, then sit at the bar if you want more attention. Â But if you don't really care about tempo then sitting at a table will be fine.
Sunday night is industry night, so if you work in a restaurant you're tab will reflect a generous discount. Â
The bar gets packed on weekends, so come then if you're looking to meet new people. Â Weeknights will be slower, so expect the pace to reflect that.
I like you, you like me too...
There really aren't any bars I'd want to hang out at in the Greenbrier area. But a meeting had me in that part of town with a friend, so we decided to check out Paradocks, which we had heard was pretty good. The place is huge. There is a large well-lit dining area that looks like a great place for families and then a bar that is completely separated with behind a door. That's where we sat.
Inside the bar, it's dimly lit and there's music and videos on large screens. It's like you've entered a totally different place. There are still plenty of tables in the bar, so you can have dinner in there. The bar is very large and there is plenty of seating while still plenty of room to move around. The wine and beer selection pleased us. The service was pretty good, but not overly attentive. Overall, we had a good experience.
Not impressed. Not impressed at all. Especially since they weren't busy.
Slow service. Cold food. Slow service. Barely chilled beer. Slow service. Watered down mixed drinks. The server we had must have been having a bad day or was just completely negligent. She was surly when she bothered to come by the table. She earned the name "Few & Far Between" as we had to go up to the bar to get our own refill at one point. I would have spoken to the manager but never saw one. I can't see coming back for a second chance. They blew it on the first visit. Did I mention the slow service?
I've eaten at Paradocks Grille twice, both because I was able to find a http://restaurant.com gift certificate cheap. Â Most recently, on 5/14, we ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, beers and a salad. Â My salad came out first. Â Pretty good salad! Â Then, our appetizers and entrees arrived at the same time! Â That's not very good, the whole purpose of an appetizer is to appetize--meaning it would come before the main course. Â I ordered their crab legs dinner, which was 2 clusters of crab legs (supposedly a pound, though my 2 clusters were very small--but who has a scale with them at dinner?). Â The crab legs were cold, and had that texture that suggests that they had been steamed long ago and just waiting for someone to order them. Â I had to ask for melted butter--which really should be standard with crab legs. Â
Needless to say, I am not impressed and will not be going back, even with a http://restaurant.com gift certificate.
I really like Paradox for it's atmosphere and selection of beer more than the food. Sure, the food is good but it's not great. It is above average though. This place has a deck as well so you can have dinner and some cold brews with friends on a hot summer night right on the deck. This place is packed on the weekends during the summer though.... that should tell you something. Great atmosphere, good service and good food.
