We stopped in for happy hour for some beers and appetizers. The Beer selection was awesome. Apps were 1/2 price so we tried several. The wings were ok. Kind of overcooked and dry, not much buff sauce on them. Not the best ever, but good for the price. We also got an order of fried okra and an order of fried jalapeños. These were both cut in very small pieces, pieces about the size of a nickel but a quarter inch thick. They were fried and there wasn't much flavor to the batter. Wouldn't order again. The fried mushrooms were large, about 3 inches diameter. Again, nothing but the batter, so not much flavor.
Review Source:Beer was great, Food not so great, Service is  also not so great.  Have gone there several times and had to leave because we couldn't  get waited on. Waiteress was too concerned about flirting with a group of guys to get her attention.  Will try  again but close to being placed on the "any place but there" list.
Review Source:Loved it! I spend a lot of time in Austin where great pubs are easily found.. And a few days in Seattle where the atmosphere is super laid back, PAB is where these two worlds meet!! Great beer selection ( which is an understatement) and the food is better than just decent. The people there were friendly, especially considering this seemed to be a local place, and we are from waaay out of town. Â This trip to Springfield was a definite light at the end to an otherwise dark missouri tunnel, and PAB was a great concession on the way out!
Review Source:This was one of the first places I visited when I first moved to Springfield and I still frequent it almost everytime I head downtown. The bartenders are knowledgeable and very friendly. The beer selection is one of the best in the downtown area, so I highly recommend PAP if you're a beer enthusiast like myself. They have live music on the weekends which are generally local bands from styles such as classic rock, jam rock, and alternative 90s rock. The service is usually pretty speedy, but it gets busy on the weekends so sometimes it's a little more difficult to get a server. The food is comparable to any other bar food, but, let's face it, if you're going to a Pub, you're probably going to drink and enjoy camaraderie. If that's true for you, then consider Patton Alley.
Review Source:Great beer selection. Largest tap menu in Springfield. They usually have pretty good live music and the food can be good but is sometimes hit or miss. The service is always slow, but its also partially due to them being pretty busy. Great place to hang out with friends to catch a casual bite with some drinks.
Review Source:Yes. They have a ton of beers. You can find Bell's 2-hearted, Odells, Coney Island (evidently, I ordered two and they were out of each) and even Southern Tier! They have good food. It was the first place I had a burger with a fried egg on top, and for that I THANK YOU Patton Alley. I love the cross hatch fries also. When I first was getting into craft beer, this was the place for me. The novelty though is wearing off as I'm becoming (somehow) more snobbish when it comes to my drinking places.
My major complaints: 1st of all, its smokey. I'm part of the ever growing crowd of smoke-free drinkers. PA is a commitment now-it involves a must-shower when I get home. Secondly is glassware. If you are gonna be a bad ass bar-then get the correct glassware. It really makes a difference. Get to a major city beer bar or go overseas and this is widely apparent. Have a Tank 7 in its proper glass, then have it in a pint glass and you will want to harm whoever is serving you that beer. Thirdly, this just isn't my crowd. Its part beer snobs, part heavy smokers. The other day I was there and I watched a guy and his 7-8 year old son play cards while the dad drank 3 pints and smoked a shit-load. Creepy, sad vibes man. Fourthly, I hate the jukebox there. If you find yourself in front of it, its soooo damn loud. I also dislike the people's selections that come from the jukebox. I don't wanna hear Sublime any more people! Make it stop! Lastly, the service here is pretty bad. Although I did notice one new girl the last time I was there that was actually working consistently.
Its cool they do special events-like the Bell's Hopslam tasting. But I'm pissed it was super-disorganized and I didn't get a glass! That hurts inside guys. They are always out of something, sometimes 3-4 somethings in my case, that I really want-i.e. their more unique beers. So I dunno, this is on my list of places still to drink, its just losing its position.
Pros:
Most excellent beer selection in Springfield.
Good food.
Awesome prices at Happy Hour (which is like six hours long).
Cons:
Smoking indoors (I know, I know it's a bar...nevertheless, I no likes).
Can get crowded on weekend evenings (with such an interesting eclectic mix of folks, too).
Sometimes service is slow (sit at the bar!)
To those who do any naysaying about this bar: what do you expect? There's a HUGE seating area, about two dozen taps, shitty-good bar food, and overworked staff trying to accommodate nearly 100 patrons! This place is packed because it is a great bar. Their specials are phenomenal and people are unique. Expect Sundays to be busy because of the 1/2 off American Drafts/apps as well as any holiday of the year. I went there on St. Patrick's Day and ordered a corned beef and hash soup with a Guinness. Yeah, I ate alone at the bar, but I never once felt like that desolate, depressed dude there. Fried jalapeño are a must.
Review Source:HUGE beer selection! Patton Alley is the bar in Springfield you need to go to when you can't find your favorite beer on tap. Everything from Dead Guy to Moose Drool to 1554 to Magic Hat #9. It's the microbrewer fan's dream bar.
Can get noisy some nights, especially when they have live music, but it's definitely a bar that adapts to it's current atmosphere. For example: if you go on a weekday evening, you'll get the chill "let's just have a beer" Patton Alley, but if you go at 10 on a Saturday Night, you'll find yourself in some weird combination of hipster/frat/biker bar. It's a very unique place to be.
Can be kind of expensive, but worth it for your favorite beer. The food is great, but again, a little rough on those of us with a budget.
You enter through a weathered wooden doorway which resembles a classic European pub. Off to the left you will notice sometimes a few and sometimes a mountain of empty kegs that have been laid to waste by thirsty patrons. For the beer aficionados, this will be the first sign that you are at home here. This is a BREW sanctum my friends.... and the selection of draft beer is far more comprehensive and extensive than anywhere else downtown. I should mention that they also have a full bar, and their mixed drinks have been positively received.
So what makes PAB extraordinary?
-An ever changing selection of beers that adjusts according to season and popularity... It is very comforting to walk into a bar with a row of tap handles that spans an entire wall.
- Superb happy hour specials. They offer half price on all their draft beers and half off appetizers. When you say? Well, 3-6 everyday AND ALL DAY ON SUNDAY (hell yes)! Who doesn't love to be encouraged to drink on a Sunday!?
-Speaking of the sabbath, PAB also hosts a very popular trivia night on Sunday evenings. The questions here are academic, and challenging...sometimes even pedantic... so bring all your smarty pants friends!
Something to note about PAB, is that the food can be hit or miss. The appetizers and burgers have generally been quite satisfying. But I ventured out for a bratwurst sandwich once that boasted being homemade... What I got was clearly a Johnsonville brat that was between two slices of bun... The bread was open on all sides, which left me perplexed. One should never put round meats on bread that  doesn't have a dam on one side. Needless to say, the grilled onions that I paid an extra dollar for ended up in my lap.. and the sausage sailed to the plate more than once. I ended up just forfeiting the whole effort and sticking to the nice waffle fries which accompanied the sandwich. The only other negatory aspect of this bar is that they once had a lovely patio. It has now been ripped out for reasons unknown. This was a real tragedy, namely because Springfield is a place that offers few decent patio settings. I hope someday they come to their senses and rebuild my adored wooden appendage... Even without a porch, Patton Alley Pub is still one of my favorite happy hour spots for beer and the occasional snack. Crowds have started to flock here towards the end of happy hour (5ish) so be prepared to wait a little or order directly from the bar. If you claim to have a cultivated beer sensibility, then this is the place to go in Springfield!!
How have I not written a review for PAB yet?! I lived downtown for three years, and this was my neighborhood bar. I loved everything about it: the staff, the barflys (myself included), the beer selection, and, of course, the food. In fact, I can say without exaggeration that PAB makes the best burger in Springfield, hands down. It's expensive, but worth every dollar. Sooooo good!
A big thanks to Eric for keeping the place up through the years! I still stop in when I can, but it's not nearly as much as I'd like.
I came here tonight for a meetup of local bloggers. We sat at a table in the back of the main room, and tried our best to hold a conversation--but it wasn't easy because the jukebox at the front of the pub was BLASTING music at ear-shattering levels that meant even back there we had to yell to be heard over the music.
The food was great--I had their bratwurst with sauerkraut, which came with a huge portion of waffle-cut fries--and the service was friendly (though I did have to hunt up the waitress to get my check when I was ready to leave). The waitress even volunteered to take a couple of photos for us when she saw me messing with my camera. That's the only reason they're rating three stars rather than two.
Also, there's no wi-fi here. Though I do not count this as necessarily a negative, it certainly would have made up for some of the negatives that were here if they did have it.
Hopefully the blogging group can meet somewhere less noisy next time.
If this place wasn't in Springfield, I'd only give it two stars. Â That said, for where it is it has an amazing beer selection - crazy good, in fact - so I'll kick it up.
My main complaint is that it's often too loud to talk. Â This bugs me. Â Also, the place gets super smokey, which is just gross. Â Beer's good, though, and I'm a sucker for variety.
This is my favorite place in town to go. A true BEER bar, it has the best selection of premium beers in town - including a limited edition line of Rogue beers that is delivered to only one bar in the stateof Missouri - The Patton Alley Pub! Staff is great, food is great, Sunday trivia night is great! Â Oh - I also recommend the Philly Steak and chips!
Review Source:This place has had the best beer selection in town. Â The atmosphere is the style of an old open pub. Â We also had our Company Christmas Party this past year and had great service. Â I haven't tried any of the food off of the menu but I heard its all great. Â The only reason they didn't get 5 is on occasion I have had questions on some of their beers and found no answers. Â All in all a great Pub.
Review Source:Huge beer selection! Â Fantastic homemade potato chips and onion rings! Â Condiments are brought to the table in a six-pack container - love it! Â And the service is great! It's exactly what you expect a "pub" to be - large bar area, tall tables & chairs, pool tables, etc. Â An oasis in a downtown area full of dance clubs!
