You want beer in the BR? Come here. You want excellent food? Don't come here. I mean, it wasn't horrible or bad or anything like that. There wasn't anything in the gator bites and the mediocre gumbo that would persuade us to eat here again.

I agree with the other reviewers that the place is clean and 'open'. The crowd was a little douchey, frat, affliction shirt (are those still in style?) wearing type.

The beer is worth checking this place out.

The size of the food portions is laughable. The "bowl" of gumbo was smaller than your average cup. For the price it was ridiculous. Also, import beers are nice, but have a domestic or two on tap, as well. After a few heavy beers, I need something lighter.

My home away from home. 100's of beers on tap and at least 50 more in bottles. If you don't fancy a brew, no worries, they have wine and specialty cocktails at reasonable prices, too. If you are a fan of The Cove, walk across the street and make the switch. Not only is the staff nicer (the likeable people from The Cove are now here) and the atmosphere better, they have food. GOOD FOOD. My favorite, thanks to a suggestion from one of the managers, is the macaroni and cheese add pork belly. Mind blowingly delicious, y'all.

If you are looking for a place to hang out for a long lunch, happy hour, or a night out with your friends, do yourself a favor and try this place! I'm also hearing whispers that brunch is coming soon too, and who doesn't love that.

Beer selection.... YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gumbo...... HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!  If you eat dinner here, try the Gator Bites. My wife ordered them & they were way better than my gumbo! This place also has a huge selection of craft beers & local beers. The bar staff were not that attentive, which gives them a 3-star.

As I understand, they've only recently added food, trying to figure out what they want to be. I had a chicken sandwich that was very good.  Beer selections were wonderful.  The atmosphere is casual, but the setting is a bit more formal. It's an interesting dichotomy. Tables are not crammed together, so there's a bit of an open feeling to the room.

Buffalo Frog legs are money bomb sauce.

They didn't have a few beers and the patio isn't finished, but they've only been open a week. Huge selection on beer and whiskey. Big open feel, Couches, well versed staff.

If you are a beer geek and live in Baton Rouge this is your new bar.  Don't get me wrong, The Cove has a larger beer list, but this place just opened and they already have an excellent beer list.

American IPA's are where the craft world is at right now and the Pelican House has them in abundance. The Pelican House's biggest enemy is Louisiana's distribution. That being said, they have the best of what's available: several Green Flash IPAs, Saint Arnold Endeavor, several Stone offerings, and they looking to add more.

While speaking to one of the owners I was informed that they are trying to get some homebrews on tap, though they are currently dealing with the legal issues at the moment. They are also planning on having a cask.

When I went they were still on a limited menu, but I got to try their burger which was excellent.  I haven't had any other food items, but from the feedback I was hearing everything else is apparently very good.

My biggest complaint with the Pelican House is that it's so nice that it seems a bit clean. It lacks the character of an older bar. That being said, the place is extremely nice and I plan on being here a lot.
