As a non-native, I've come to realize that Denverites have a one star upward food bias. That is, they think the food is one star better than it actually is.
Pete's Gyro Place is a perfect example. The gyros are good, but definitely not four star. And if you're going to be a "gyro place," your gyro should be top notch. These gyros wouldn't even be the best in many neighborhoods in Detroit, Chicago, or even Los Angeles. The meat was nice, but could definitely use more flavor. And the pita was way too moist - almost soggy. Overall, a pretty boring sandwich.
I would feel a lot better if my gyro sandwich was $6. But it's $8.25, and just ok. Pete's may be a Denver tradition, but it's a three star one to be sure.
