I doubt that my gustatory opinions are worth much. E.g., I thought army food was ok. But after sharing a bottle of vino with my girl friend in a family-run, BYOB Italian restaurant like Phil's Pizza D'Oro or Villa Rosa I become convinced that the world is a much nicer place than it probably is.

I found Phil's a year ago and i've never turned back. Their pizza is utterly amazing. Never undercooked, never overcooked...just...AMAZING. Its the only place in the city that has bosco sticks too. I'll be honest, most of the time they overcook them which crushes my soul a little, but this last time they were PERFECT. Try the vesuvio potatoes and you won't be able to put them down. They're also amazing reheated which is a big plus for me. I always have them deliver and the delivery guy is just a doll. I stopped there to pick up food once and the inside is so cozy. Italian music which is a big plus, and perfect for families. You can tell the owners really care about their business. Be warned that parking is not easy. And sometimes when I call in my order they rush you off the phone before you can ask the total, which is a little annoying. But all in all 5 stars for Phils!

Worst pizza I have had since Dominoes. Utterly tasteless. Delivery quick and good price. Won't call again. BAD.

Phil's is a really good pizza place in Jeff Park and it's BYOB. Try the thin crust pizza and bring your fav brew. The place is nothing special but tasty food, great service, and even a low key place to watch the game.

Excellent, especially thick/pan pizza and that Mediterranean bread and that salad!  Awesome, friendly staff.

We saw on yelp and were in the mood for pizza and still trying to find a replacement for the place we used to go to. This place is definitely a candidate. It's BYOB, but they encourage you to run across the street to the 7-11 if you want beer or wine. We ordered a 12" thin crust with pepperoni, fresh garlic, sausage and black olives on 1/2 and green olives and onions on the other. Turned out FANTASTIC! My daughter wanted the stuffed crust, which resembles a deep dish, pepperoni. The thick pizzas take about 45min, so bring a book or have someone to chat with. We got the pizzas piping hot and my daughter finished 1/2 of one piece. Leftovers!  My wife and I ate about half of ours and probably should have stopped a piece earlier. Service is attentive and friendly. They even let me relocate to use an outlet to charge my iPad while waiting and eating. People love to have parties here (two while we were here) and its not so crowded or noisy that you can't enjoy yourself. They seem to do a lot of takeout business. We're definitely coming back again.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned.....in not writing this review sooner.

I salivate like Pavlov's dog at the thought of Phil's.

Their thin crust sausage pizza would be my last meal on death row.  Their friendly servers would be my chosen executioners.

BYOB - that means bring your cooler, your favorite box of Franzia, and your kids for a fulfilling and inexpensive night out.

One of the best pizzas you'll ever have. Been one of my favorites for years.

I wish they had 6 stars because you have to have this pizza dining in. I don't know how they do it but I really like them better then when they were on NOrthwest hwy. I ate at the Mikwaukee place one other time. I think this place gets better everytime. There is nothing fancy about their pizza. Kind of reminds me of how places did pizza in the 90s. Not fancy but good. Oh and their pizza is just as good cold the next day.

Phili's pizza is a great Italian restaurant with excellent stuffed pizza. I used to go to the lunch quite often and eat myself into a food coma when I got back to work. I recommend this restaurant.

Pizza is ok. Not very special but a lot less greasy than most places.

Had a yen for stuffed za, and wanted to show my Texan GF what Chi-style stuffed is all about.  My memories from decades ago of Uno's initially made me conclude that as an easy choice, but more recent Yelpers changed my mind, and so we were on our way to the far NW side to Phil's which has earned more stars and praise.

The complementary garlic bread is nice and crispy and hit the spot with our BYOB prosecco.   Though I think they used garlic powder, not fresh puree-my only neg about the garlic bread which was still very good.  The Phi's Special Salad, kind of an antipasto, was good, but it could have been a little better with nicer olives and one or two more kinds of meat or cheese.  And it could have been a lot better with some house-made Italian, which is seriously, not that hard to make...so why not?

We ordered a medium cheese, sausage, mushroom, pepper stuffed medium.  Awesome pizza, worth the wait.  The sauce and crust were excellent, generous amounts of cheese.  It takes 45 minutes, which they tell you on the menu, and you should expect if you've ordered stuffed before anywhere.  We brought tons home for leftovers, a small is actually more than enough for two.

The ambience is very basic, but lots of windows.  Service is very good.

Have not been here for some time now... I will NEVER go back.  Ordered some appetizers and a extra large pizza, each of us had a med size soft drink only 3 of us ordered refills.  My bill came and my soft drink order cost MORE than my food!? Huh?
I was SHOCKED!  my soft drink bill was approx 25 dollars and there was only 5 of us and 3 were under then age of 8.    I was like WHOA to the waiter and he's like " sorry, no free refills "  I'm sorry... that's insane!    I used to love this place, but after that, I will never ever step foot in there again.  made sure I told all my friends too!

Excellent place!!!  Sal, the owner is a really nice, cool guy!  Plus, everything they offer is amazing!  Their thin curst pizza is outstanding every time - I've been eating it for over 20 years.  They have the best mozzarella sticks I have ever eaten(and believe me, I have sampled them across the state).  Their Chicken Parmesan is phenomenal, and even their pan pizza is excellent!  Plus, they've created The Big Gunner - a monster Italian Beef sandwich (or Meatball or It. Sausage) on garlic bread, red sauce, peppers and tons of melted cheese.  It's big, messy and oh so delicious!  For having so much unbelievable food, their prices are actually quite reasonable.  Go to Phil's - you won't be disappointed!

What a great surprise this place was! They are definitely not skimpy on the pizza toppings and it's very apparent that their ingredients are fresh. We got a breaded veggie appetizer and the veggies were actually still a bit crispy, as though they were chopped recently and not fried for too long. For how reasonable the prices are and how excellent the food is, this place has definitely earned a place in the address book.

I know a lot of the review are about the pizza but I went here with my fiance and we had pasta because we wanted something a little quicker.

Overall the pasta was OK, but nothing spectacular. I had the spaghetti with garlic and olive oil and my fiance had the spinach lasagna.
They do have a larger menu than I would have expected so maybe I just need to try something different.
I did the find the server very friendly and attentive so that is why I gave then the extra star. i hope to try this place again and try their pizza.

Living in Chicago my entire life has exposed me to more pizza than is probably healthy to eat. I've had it all, thin, stuffed, pan, you name it and I've tried almost every major establishment and then some. Phil's Pizza should definately be on the list of classic Chicago restaurants.  The traditional Italian/Sicilian owners bring family friendly values to the table along with good service and great food. The wait staff is highly dedicated and accommodating; they will make you feel right at home. Try my favorite-- the sausage, onion, green pepper thin crust--it is soooooo good!

I haven't updated this review in a while. I had a baked sausage panzerotti and it was great. I have had both the fried and baked and I prefer the baked version.

The crust was perfect and there were just the right amount of filling. They then put a little sauce on the top before baking. This extra sauce gets a little sweet from the heat and is oh so good.

It's going to be a toss up between their thin crust pizza and baked panzerotti. They are both excellent.

The people are great and the place is alway very clean.

I will continue to return here.

It isn't often that I feel compelled to write a review for a pizzeria because it tends to be a conflict of interest for me being in the pizza business... BUT, this place deserves all 5 stars I'm giving it.  Their sign makes mention of their Pan & Stuffed pizzas but lets not forget about the amazing thin crust tavern style pizza.  I thoroughly enjoyed the thin crust as it was very crispy, had the sweet sauce, and you can tell they spent good money on a higher quality cheese.  Oh yeah and as far as the cheese goes they don't put it on sparingly... TONS of it.  I had the sausage & garlic thin crust which was outstanding, and then a stuffed spinach which was better than the big name places you find downtown.  Bruschetta app was great, and the staff was friendly and prompt.  This is what Chicago pizza is all about, can't wait to go back.

To stuff or not to stuff, that is the question.

We started with Phil's special salad with house dressing.  Pepperoni, cubed cheese, tomato, black olives and iceberg lettuce.  Very crisp salad, the dressing could have been more memorable.  We also had complimentary thin crisp garlic toast.  It was pretty tasty, very crunchy.

For pizza we went with a large (14") stuffed pizza pie with sausage, green olive and onion.  The pan pizza and stuffed pizza are priced with the cheese base, additional toppings are $2.10 each, adds up quick.  I've decided deep dish pizza like this requires at least 3 toppings otherwise its just all lot of cheese.  The cheese to topping/sauce/crust on the stuffed pizza is almost 3:1.  This is a cheese lovers pizza for sure, I was a little in over my head on this one.  Dare I say I would have liked more pizza sauce and a little less cheese.  It was so very filling and I felt like I ate a half ton of melted string cheese.

    Luckily, the leftovers reheated nicely.

Boy, I feel bad doing this, BUT....we had our party here and Phil's let us down.  We had the party room booked for 4 hrs, but they only had the food out for 1 hr. They wouldn't put the appetizers out earlier as we expected, everything was served at the same time, then they cleared it all away  They didn't like us much, they said we were too loud.  Instead of asking us to turn down our music, the manager came in and turned down the music herself.  We all still had a good time but they won't get return business from me.

Really not sure why everyone is going nuts over this place. 2nd best overall rating for Pizza in Chicago? I think not. I'm just glad I was in the neighborhood to play pool and not just for this.

    Positive:
    Free garlic flatbread
    BYOB
    Cheap

    Negative:
Slow service - we noticed the deep dish had a 45-minute warning on it so we ordered one of those and a thin crust, assuming we'd get the thin crust significantly faster. About an hour later, we got both pizzas at the same time. Maybe we should have asked to get the thin crust first, but why on earth would you give a table two pizzas at the same time when four people are sitting there starving for an hour?
Pizza Quality - the pizza was OK but there was definitely nothing special about it. The deep dish was your typical too-cheesy, soggy crust Chicago style and the thin crust was enjoyable but not any better than your local corner pizza joint.

I'm sure this place is fine if you're from the neighborhood but it doesn't live up to the hype.

Me and my husband love this place when we decide to eat in.

We get the Vegetarian Pizza which is great

They and the have Eli's Cheesecake which is the best ( better than cheesecake factory) the slices are thin but very rich.

The fried veggies are good especially the cauliflower and zucchini

We only do delivery which takes 45 min to an hour so we always plan ahead.

We have ordered here about 10 times and never had a problem

    Hawaiian Pizza was bomb :)

Gooey cheese, pineapples, pepperoni, ham, and special sauce (tad on the sweet side but its good)

Definitely recommended. Only lost a star to finding parking in the area on a Saturday night.

So, just moved into the neighborhood and tried this place out the day before I moved while the family and I were painting the new place. Well dang, it was pretty good! Arrived promptly and PIPING hot... but whats with the pizza bag? I'm partial to my pizza coming in a box, but its not a huge deal I guess. The Hawaiian was mighty tasty, but the chunks of ham(canadian bacon?) could have been smaller (if I can nit-pick) and the other side was good spinach, mushroom, onion & sausage. The sauce was delightful!
Not quite perfect, but very very good for this picky pizza eater. Can't wait to try the deep dish!

Ordered delivery service last night after hearing rave reviews about Phils thin crust pizza. It did not disappoint at all! This is EXACTLY what Chicago thin crust pizza is all about folks! The crust was perfect, sauce was light and had a nice flavor (not too much which can get messy). The cheese, sausage, and mushroom were amply applied and very fresh. Finally the cheese was just beginning to brown which in my mind makes a perfect pie. This is definitely my #1 go to pizza delivery now. Thanks Phils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what this place looks like because I order it from my couch and eat it from my couch.  Then I pass out on my couch and wake up filled with shame.

STUFFED PEPPERONI PIZZA.  Don't ask questions, just do it.

I really liked the pizza here.  It's a great thin crust with a tangy sauce.  I haven't eaten in the restaurant but it's a place I definitely want to sit down.

    Very fast delivery.

The best pizza place on the far northwest side.  The thin crust is not too thin not too thick but just right. Sauce is sweet and tasty.  A nice mix of toppings again not too much not too little.

The pan pizza is my favorite deep dish in the city.  Thick soft crust and an abundance of ingredients.  It's a must try .

I've only dined in once at Phil's.  It used to be a pickup and delivery only spot on NW highway.  The new location is at Milwaukee, Ardmore, and Austin, and is a full service restraurant. Byob.

"Yes, yesss, yessssss!!!"  That is what my tastebuds were yelling out as I dug into Phil's delicious breadsticks, Bruschetta, and Hawaiian thin crust.  I am seriously in love.

Trust me when I say-order the Bruschetta...it's nothing fancy but boy is it gooooood!  The "special sauce" on the Hawaiian pizza is very unique in a great way-sweet and a little spicy-goes perfect with the canadian bacon, pineapple, and pepperoni.  On top of all the goodness on the menu, they even give you *free* yummy breadsticks!  Phil's is definitely my new fav pizza on this side of town!

I can sum up my review of this place with five words:

    Phil's, you are fucking excellent.

If you need me to elaborate, of course I can:

The thought of eating Phil's thin-crust pizza makes me froth at the mouth like a lion staring down an innocent, little gazelle.

Phil's used to basically be a carryout place when it was located on Northwest Hwy, but now they've really classed up the joint in its newer Milwaukee Ave. location.  I've never dined in (old habits die hard), but I can't imagine it wouldn't be an enjoyable experience.  BYOB!  If ever you manage to stop lusting over their pizza, try the other food.  From pasta to burgers, I've yet to be disappointed.

But that thin-crust pizza?  Good god, do they mix cocaine into the cheese?

Since moving back into the city after being in Kankakee for 10 years I finally found a pizza I can't wait to have again!  My boyfriend and I ordered a large sausage, green pepper, and onion thin crust last night (during a snow storm).  The pizza arrived hot and within the hour they said on the phone.  We tore the paper off, pulled out a slice and OMG, I was in heaven!  Perfect thin crispy crust and the right amount of seasonings in the sauce, not too sweet and not too spicy.  My boyfriend and I decided that this was going to be our pizza "go-to" place!

I've added photos for your viewing pleasure.

Their thin crust is excellent, its debatable how crispy it is. I've had it once so far and it had a chew to it, but I was pleasantly surprised with it and look forward to ordering it again. Their pan pizza was heavy with a ton of cheese on top. Between the two styles the thin crust is the winner for me. We ordered the Bacaroni which was composed of bacon, pepperoni, onions and a special sauce. The sauce was so tasty and tangy my buddy thought it had to be jam of some kind, jam! heck no. It's a marinara sauce for sure, just unsure what's in that sauce that made it tasty. Sauteed onions add a bit of sweetness to sauces, could it be that? who knows, its good stuff. The exterior of the restaurant needs a washing, it's just an all glass store front which looks darkened at night. Standing up close looking in is when you feel welcome. Inside the appearance is like your seated in the middle of a courtyard. Pillars against the walls and a hanging flowered terrace over the waitstaff area. With the way that the heating vents are setup nearly every inch of the restaurant is warm at all times, great for this winter since it's been so terribly cold. The mood of the room is welcoming and the staff was cool, collected and knew the menu. Many of the other customers seated nearby were families having a calm Sunday dinner. BYOB and there is a liquor store across the street. Pizza pricing is moderate and in that I mean we ordered two pies one specialty thin and one pan with two sodas came out around $30 before tip. We got more than enough food with ample leftovers.

I tend not to give five stars to many places, but their thin crust has won me over.

    Dear Phil,

I'm sorry  I usually think of Moretti's when I want to order food.
I'm sorry my family thinks of Moretti's when they want to order food.
I'm sorry I'm moving out of my parents house now and can't order from you more often.

I do want to say thank you for the fabulous GUNNER, (Italian Beef and/or sausage with choice of sauce and cheese). I also want to say thanks for the many delicious options you provide to the neighborhood.

Food is always hot, delivery is always speedy and order is always right!

    Hey Phil, you're alright!

This place is pretty good.  The prices were fair and the pizza was pretty good.  Nice to get free garlic bread.  Service was a little slow and the soft drinks were a little pricy, but all in all, a nice neighborhood place. Nice for families.

    I'll go back.

Phil's has AMAZING food.  The pizzas are great, as are the pastas, burgers, and appetizers.  I've converted many people to ordering their pizzas from Phil's.

I've never eaten in the new location, but the deliveries are always on time (or early) based on what they tell you the wait will be when you order, and the food is always hot and fresh.  The staff is very nice and also very accommodating.  I highly recommend this place.

We took my dad here for father's day and I was quite impressed with everything this place had to offer.  The interior is very clean and welcoming, with a very spacious dining area.  I really liked the look of the place, it just reminds we what a pizza joint should look like.

The service was as good as it gets.  A water glass was never empty and a request was never forgotten.  It did seem like the owners whole family was working there, but hey that works for me.   They gave us two free orders of crazy bread and were so accommodating to our rather large table.

We started off with an order of calamari and bruschetta.  The calamari was your basic plate of fried goodness.  The dish wasn't undercooked which can happen at a lot of places and they gave us plenty of cocktail sauce and lemon.  The bruschetta is another story.  It was out of this world good.  We had to place another order because the young ones snatched the pieces up as fast as they could.  I thought there might be a brawl between grandma and Anna over the last piece, but thankfully they agreed to split it.  I had my money on grandma; she's got a wicked uppercut.

The thin crust pizza was just awesome.  The sauce, the crispiness of the crust and the amount of toppings were perfect.   We ordered the D'oro special (onion, green peppers, black olives, and mushrooms) and another pizza with sliced roast beef.  Two extra large pizzas were more than enough to feed 9 people and we all left full with huge smiles on our face.  My dad was even impressed which is hard to do.  You pretty much have to hit him with a hammer to get him to compliment you.  On a side note they had some of the best homemade hot giardiniera this tongue has ever been burned by.  I was sweating a little as I was eating.

I will recommend this place to anyone that will listen to me and will be back again hopefully sometime soon.
