This French/Mediterranean restaurant was recently restored from Sandy with a great panoramic deck overlooking the Hudson River and Tappan Zee bridge with boat docking available. Russel owner of Closter's Harvest is also part owner here. Denis Whitton is their chef.
I have been here several times for brunch and once for dinner. I really like this newly restored river front dining restaurant. If you arrive before 2pm on a Sunday we were able to get one of the tables for two along the railing overlooking the river as was the case today so check my pics.
My wife started with her grey goose martini for $12. I had my usual less costly margarita for $10. We shared the asparagus soup du jour for $8. We both enjoyed our lobster sliders for $18 each and a bottle of La Scolca Gavi for $36.
The only problem with this place is that food preparation service including cocktail service is a bit slow. I am not sure why since they have both indoor and outdoor bars and the restaurant is rarely crowded when I was there including today for a Sunday brunch. I guess supply and demand applies here. The service personnel are quite pleasant so this is not a personnel problem, but, a back end or management problem.
The total bill was $111 less gratuities for brunch. I will return and hopefully they get their service act together sooner than latter.
We were excited for the new opening of this place after the disastrous previous restaurant. Â However the new restaurant is still disappointing.
A great location with a beautiful view on the banks of the Hudson river. Â Very unimpressive food. The worst burger I Â have ever had. Â If you read good reviews about this place - they were probably written by friends of the owners...
Service is OK.
Came here for lunch on a Sunday with my best friend. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. The view is to die for. What else do you need on a lazy Sunday but to enjoy some food and drink with a friend while gazing at the Hudson and soaking in the rays? The food was pretty good. We both had the pasta of the day (penne vodka with arugula, artichokes, chicken, diced clam, and shrimp). It wasn't anything special and left a bit to be desired. I didn't detect any clam and they were quite skimpy with the shrimp. 3 to be exact. Still quite tasty. I also had the soup du jour, a creamy asparagus soup with with lump crab meat. The soup was tasty and surprisingly light which was nice because it didn't fill me up before my entrée. We both started out with martinis, lychee and grapefruit basil. They were quite strong, in TRUE martini fashion, which we didn't mind. It was a nice change from these syrupy mixed martinis you see everywhere and from what I could tell, they used a lot of fresh ingredients. No cheap mixers or liquers or soda. I also had "The Hudson" which was also quite strong but very tasty! My favorite drink that day. And I always say, what's the point of paying $10 for a drink if it doesn't do anything for you. For that you drink juice and pay $2. Our waiter was pleasant but a bit hard to track down. All in all we enjoyed our experience here and would love to give Pier 701 another try. Maybe for brunch? I saw that on the menu as well.
Review Source:I came here on Saturday night with a party of four for an 8:30pm reservation outside. The hostess was really rude when we arrived, and told us to keep coming back to her to see if our table was ready, instead of offering to come seat us from the bar, which is outside where we wanted to sit. We had arrived about a half hour early, so we decided to get a drink at the bar. First, there were very few beer options: there are choices, but mostly different brands of IPAs or ales, so not great if you want something else. Then my boyfriend tried to order a craft bottled beer, but they were out - this happened three times with three different beers. Finally, my boyfriend settled on a generic beer that they actually did have. Why have the beers on the menu if you don't actually keep them stocked?
We finally sat at our table, where we had to wait a while for service. The waitress was friendly but hard to flag down all night, and the busboy filling our water filled only three of our glasses before walking to the table next to us, even though the fourth person also needed water. This continued throughout the night - less than stellar service the whole meal. But I ordered the lobster rolls (off the bar menu, which has some great options not on the regular menu), and they were delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their meals too - salads, burger, and fish. I also had a planter's punch to drink(similar to a vodka sunrise, but with rum), which was pretty good. Despite the good food, and the great view of the city from the patio, the service left a lot to be desired and would probably stop me from returning.
Went today for lunch, had a blast. Did a hike up Hook Mountain afterwards. Â Food was great, awesome view, good drinks. What else do you need. Â The hostess was endearing, I can't remember my waiters name but he was attentive and cool. We had the Mussels Provencal, Lobster Salad, and shared a Steak Sandwich. All really good. Â hmmmm can't think of any negatives today... Â The bloody Mary was spicy - but that's how i like it. Â I'll go back and try to find something to complain about next time :P
Review Source:Wow. What a welcome addition to Rockland County. Great atmosphere and really good food. Fresh and current menu. The vibe is one of good times, relaxation and enjoyment. Have been there 4 times in last month for dinner, drinks and even brunch. Have not been disappointed yet!!!
The Hudson  River views are special. Highly recommend for almost anything. Casual dinner , or special  occasion.
This is based mostly on drinks. Â Went here this past Friday night with Fred Ronin Lynn & da Monkey. Â This place has indoor & outdoor seating - both very nice. Â A decent sized outdoor bar.
A couple things to be aware of;
Weekends during warmer weather U better have a reservation to valet park & to sit down for dinner.
We stole a table - sorry but I'm on the injured reserved list for a few more weeks & need to sit down & the bar was 2 deep.
The place was jamming. Â All tables full. Â We had drinks & some calamari (which was good). Â Monkey had a lobster salad, I think - I didn't get a rating on it though. Â One thing though it came out in about 3 mins from ordering, thus it was sitting in a refrig already prepared. Â Our server was good. Â
(side note - do not drink tap water here - Yuck, tasted terrible - I guess a way for customers to pay $7. for a bottle of Voss)
Post 9pm its most of the dinner tables were empty & its mostly a bar crowd on the deck.
For those to lazy to read: one phrase- Amateur hour.
Pros- Great view of the Hudson
Cons- Unprofessional service, paired with mediocre food. Be prepared to ask what you want to be done/ordered
From the moment we entered at the valet we were practically yelled at to move up a few more car lengths. We entered to be greeted by no hostess, and after waiting 3 minutes the hostess tells us to return to the front where we should wait to be seated.
After the many pains of finally getting a table, we proceeded to be served bread that was stale, followed by waiters that could not properly remember what the pasta of the day special was (one said it was a shrimp and mussel sauce with fettuccini, the other shrimp with lobster sauce served with rigatoni). After being served our appetizers the waiters proceed to tell us that the bottle of wine we have ordered was not available (the wine should have been server prior to the appetizers to begin with).
So we proceed to order another bottle- and the continuation of slow service, and in professional bussing continues. Finally the main courses arrive. A typical mediocre Rockland county dinner. A restaurant that needs to be properly managed. The true test of the restaurant will be during Winter when people will not just go for the view.
They get one star because this is the best sited restaurant in Rockland County, and maybe anywhere on the west side of the Hudson. Go for the view, if you must. Get a drink outside, if you must. Avoid the food.
We were served stale bread and a Caesar salad oozing a gloppy over-salted dressing with nary an anchovy in sight, and huge, stale, inedible croutons. We ordered a seafood tower, and got funky clams, rubbery mussels, and lobster claws that clearly either sat in the tank too long or were pre-steamed and then refrigerated.
Wretched and inedible.
We have friends who ate there the following weekend and had to send back an egg dish because the yolk was frozen. How does that even happen?
Ugh.
Too bad, because we're locals and would love a good restaurant in this location. Even the wretched greasy bar food from the previous restaurant at this site was better.
Had a great time with my homie Andres over here. I thought it was going to be really bourgeois in here, which the inside decor and the lambo's outside would implicate, but I went in there with my Giants jersey, air force ones, and jeans and had a blast! The waitresses are all hot, the wait staff was on point, and the bartenders were cool as shit!! We had some great convo's with the workers there and at the end of the night went to sit at the bar(we were outside on the deck by the water) and had some beers(hoptimus prime). The view is amazing outside and again everyone was cool and seemed to be from NJ where I grew up and living rather than from NY lol. The food (flank steak w/ fries, shrimp(only 4 pieces) small plate, and crab cakes were very good). They definitely improved from the early negative reviews they may have gotten. My friend had gone there before and experienced the same, but said this time was much much better! Definitely will be back during the day to experience the true beauty of this place!
Review Source:Dinner with friends last week here. Â Beautiful evening but that was all that went well. Â Service was absolutely terrible. Â Appetizers brought at the same time as entrees, and then entrees brought out cold when sent back.
Requests ignored. Â Someone who had pasta requested grated cheese and was told "are you sure that you didn't get it?" Â Never received it.
So along with terribly inexperienced service and cold fish steak & ribs, the food was not good. Â We are locals and will never return.
Clearly this restaurant has some growing pains to manage. My wife and I met some friends at the bar on Thursday evening. The service that night was great and the food was quite good! Â Because of our experience on Thurs. we decided to go to dinner on Friday. Well that experience was quite different. We sat inside because we didn't have a reservation - no biggie- but our experience quickly went downhill. The waitress dumped an entire glass of wine on our table. Fortunately my phone was spared and our clothing camouflaged the spray. Again, no big deal accidents happen however the way it was dealt with was amateurish. Barely an acknowledgement from anyone that it happened! For our first course we ordered the Burrata Salad which was fantastic! Then our main dishes were served. I got the Steak Au Poivre which was fatty and far below the quality you would expect for the price. My wife got the Divers Sea Scallops - they were good - not great - but was definitely better than the steak. Â Then on to desert. We both ordered cappuccinos which were some of the worst ever. It seemed as though they were made and then sat for a while - they were barely warm with no froth and mediocre quality espresso. On the positive side - the restaurant is beautiful and the location is great. We will most likely give them another try in a month or so - hopefully the kinks will be worked out!
