Been coming here for years- even get takeout to bring to the grandparents! Have tried almost everything on the menu. Its real authentic italian food and always is fresh and tastes amazing. Recommend getting penne vodka, pizza, even salads are great. On pricier side but its greenwich prices. Get big pasta portions and usually bring a bit home. :-)
Downside is its a small restaurant. Tables are 6in apart from each other and only seat 2-4ppl. theres only 2 booths that fit 6-8ppl and its gets rather noisy when the restaurant is full. Avoid in summer people usually wait outside and wait time can be up to an hour.
You know its business owners that don't seem to care about their customers that have no place in the community. That is not the case here. I had an issue with the owner of this place and he immediately called me to straighten it out which is what I should have done in the first place.  I was wrong  and bullheaded and he was right. I did not set correct paranmeters for a hastily set party. Any time you plan a party you sit down and lay things out. Its been a tough week for everyone but that is no excuse for bad behavior. Mark and Vinny, accept my apologies. I called some of the wives of my fellow fire fighters and heard how they were angry that their husbands left them. I did not want to lose fire fighters so I thought a thank you party quickly was in order. Then I went home that night after putting in 40 hours of fire fighting duties and found my little dog convulsing on the floor because i administered a Flea and Tick drop found to be lethal by the vendor and clearly described on the internet but not to the consumers. I have been a wreck since and not thinking clearly. After spending $2400 in emergency vet bills I had to put my little guy down. I think I am coming now to my senses.  You are a great neighbor, a great restaurantor and a great friend. please again accept my apologies. I will leave this up for a few days to counteract my reactive posting  so that I can make sure anybody seeing it can understand I was pig headed and then remove it. Orf course ,I will remain a fixture in your restaurant if you will still let me and Dorothy in.
I am turning my anger now towards CostCo for selling that  poison.
Repentant,
Stanley
I don't get it. Â This place has good reviews so i tried it awhile ago when I first moved into the area. Â Terrible. Â Tried it again last night. Â Just as bad as the first time. Â My friend and I called in an order for take out, she went to pick it up. Â We live less than 5 minutes away so I was surprised that it took her 20 minutes to pick it up. Â She came back and said that they messed up our order (we ordered 1 baked ziti, 1 salad, 1 soup and garlic knots - not complicated) and she had to wait but there is no waiting area.
The baked ziti is not baked ziti. Â It is penne red sauce with a little cheese melted on top. Â The garlic knots were rock hard in a pool of oil/butter. Â My friend said the salad was good. Â But if an italian place can't do pasta and garlic knots, then it is not a place worth going back to.
If you want Avant Garde designer pizza, with meats and cheeses no one can pronounce, look elsewhere. If you want traditional pizza made right, and a solid traditional Italian menu to accompany it, come to Pomodoro. They're a nice little restaurant in a Riverside strip mall, with many loyal customers.
They earn those customers too. This was always my favorite local pizza when I lived in the area. Just as good as anything you'll find in New York. And when it was time to sit down for a meal, no one in the area had more shamelessly humungous portions. Unless you're a human vaccuum cleaner, you will have leftovers for lunch the next day when you order a full dinner.
The environment is something between blue collar and white collar. It's nicely decorated, but the floors are tile, and the cash register is open to the dining room. A good place for a pleasant, but not-too-fancy dinner.
So, this little gem was a total random accident. Â Heading back from a trip to MA, my mom and I stopped for gas and decided to head here when traffic got bad between 5:30 and 6:30 pm on a Friday. Â Thank you, GPS! Â The place wasn't busy when we arrived, but was close to full when we left. (BTW, a Starbucks is next door with a pastry place on the other side. ;) )
Its a small place but not cramped, with warm wood decor and marble table tops. Â They can easily accommodate parties up to 6, maybe more with tables pushed together. Â The menu was big, but not overwhelming. Â There's a wine list, mostly by the bottle, but some by the glass. Â Prices were moderate, $12 to $23 or so for the pasta entrees. Â We didn't get pizza, so no comments on that. Â Our fried calamari ($12) was lightly breaded and came with red sauce for dipping and some lemon wedges (I put one in my water). Â The portion was more than enough for two. Â Mom had the Stuffed Manicotti (also $12) and pronounced it "fantastic". Â The sauce was seasoned very nicely, and she makes her own regularly (she's Italian). Â The noodles were light and tasty. I ordered one of the specials for the last two weeks, Wild Mushroom Lasagna, which was A-mazing! Â Heaven on a plate for mushroom lovers. Â It came in a light cream sauce with fontina cheese in the layers. Â The portion sizes were normal...that is, not the huge portions you usually see in restaurants. Â Plenty without overfilling our bellies. :) Â I did have a hard time making a decision though, as all the sauces and regular entrees sounded awesome. Â You can choose your sauce and your pasta...even whole wheat pasta for about $15/$16.
Our food arrived in short order (we were still eating the calamari), and Alyssa (our lovely waitress) grated cheese fresh for us. Â A dessert menu rounded things off nicely with coffee, espresso, cheese cake, zeppoli, tiramisu, cannolis, gelato and plenty of other choices, all under $5 or so. Â (Our mini cannolis were $1.50 each). Â
So, well worth the stop and a hell of a find. Â If we lived in CT, we'd eat there often and try everything else! Â If I ever need to stop again, NO hesitation in coming here. Â :D Â You won't be sorry, just try it! Â (NO idea how this place only has a 3.5 star rating!)
I was in the area for work last week and my colleagues and I decided to stop in for a quick lunch on a weekday. It was about 11am and there were a few couples sitting but I could tell that the take out area was very busy.
We ordered a medium plain pie and were pleasantly surprised. We were not expecting to find good pizza in CT! The hint of basil in the pie is what did it for me. The staff was very pleasant as well. Next time I am in the area I would like to try the many other options on the menu.
Conneticut does not know pizza. The effort is there and it's edible but they nickled and dimmed us, charging us for extra sauce we didnt order. And the left winged douche who delivered it gave us a scowl when his tip was just shy of 10 bucs just a few min away from the restaurant. FAIL
Review Source:This place is just ok, but since it's very close to our house it's become a weekly takeout staple. We like the linguini with clams in white wine sauce, chicken scarpariello, chicken marsala, meatballs in red sauce. Pizza here is no good, we prefer Re Napoli.
I should caveat my pizza comment by saying I prefer thin crust fragrant saucy pizza such as Lombardi's in NYC and La Rustique in Jersey City. Others may prefer Pomodoro style, it's a personal preference thing.
I think my grandma introduced me to Pomodoro. Â I've been coming here for a while. Â They have great Italian cuisine including pizza, but I come here most often for their lunch specials (available until 4pm). Â They are one of the best values in town. Â For around $9 you get a huge panini, fries, and cole slaw. Â There are around 8 paninis and wraps to choose between ranging from tomato/mozz/basil to ham & formaggio. Â Something for everyone.
Their online ordering system is very reliable.  I use it often, even from my iPhone.  I enjoy eating there as well although it can get a little cramped if someone is seated at the table next to you.  There are a few tables positioned so  this isn't a problem though.  They recently re-modeled the bar seating with a granite counter top.  It adds a lot to the atmosphere. Â
I cannot recommend doing delivery. Â I've always had an extremely long and unusual wait, even during off hours.
OMG! Â I am not sure I ever had fresh homemade mozzarella ever before. Â In terms of my memories, the answer would be no that I have never had homemade mozzarella! Â What a concept! Â In looking at their lunch specials, I didn't want any sandwiches that did have mozzarella in it so it seemed to defeat the purpose of my excitement.
So, what did I do? I ordered Deep Fried Mozzarella Sticks!  I shared it with some friends and we all agreed that it was excellent and delicious.  I might have to order from them again before I leave Greenwich!  From the lunch special menu (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpomodororiverside.com%2Fpdf%2Flunch-specials.pdf&s=e774896c2f6acbadf85c0953d5d45817f9bb1753ee012f3c8e4de6cb040d4d38" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://pomodororiverside…</a>), I had their Chicken Florentine Panino sandwich without tomatoes.  Can I say yum?!  It was nice and tasty with a thick piece of well-grilled chicken. mMmMm. Â
Did I have it delivered? Absolutely~! Â Their delivery service was quick and actually came at the promised time. Â Thumbs up for keeping their delivery promises!
Consistent, Reasonably Priced Italian Food -- Bad About Honoring Their Coupons on Delivery Orders
We have ordered delivery or take out from Pomodoro's about sixty times in the past two years. (I guess that makes us regulars.) And we have dined in the restaurant maybe a dozen times, too. Service is good.
While the pizza is sometimes a bit undercooked -- yeah, I prefer a a crisper crust -- it's decent for delivery pizza. The daily specials are always superb and the salads are excellent too. Portions are larger if you dine in, especially the salads which shrink significantly in size in the to go / delivery versions. You can expect to pay at least $15 --18 per person for entrees. Coupons help.
Note that Pomodoro's charges a delivery fee, so tip accordingly. And be sure they apply your coupon. They consistently forget to deduct mine on delivery orders, so I now think they do it on purpose and expect you not to notice or complain.
All in all a consistent family dining spot.
Pomodoro is like my takeout dirty secret. They always have coupons on the back of their takeout menus and have an awesome family meal where I get something like a pile of carbonarra, a pie, 2 liter, salad, and garlic knots for $25. It lasts me a couple of days when I'm feeling lazy and don't feel like cooking and want bad breath.
I usually order the Arthur Avenue which I believe is sausage, rappini, and cherry tomatoes. Good for what it is, but I doubt I'd come in for waitservice. In addition, when I've picked done 'pick up ' service, they've offered to make me fresh cannoli on the spot. Staff is on point.
I'm knocking off one star because I've been ordering from them quite often lately and for some reason they are getting ridiculous at forgetting things with my order. I can understand the bread but when I'm paying for three salads and I don't get dressing with any of them, that's a bit ridiculous.
Review Source:Great Italian restaurant with huge portions and reasonable prices. Â The food here is always superb and the wait staff got no complaints from me.
I have been here a few times and gotten different things each time without a complaint ever. Â The food is classical Italian at its finest in a great setting.
Family Restaurant meets take out... This little Italian place offers quick delicious meals at cheap prices. If you are really hungry have a whole pasta dish, if you aren't share it with your friend for a 3 dollar surcharge.
The Pasta is GREAT, The Pizza is FABULOUS, and The Salads are DELICIOUS.
Fair enough the kitchen closes early, and it is overrun by children but what more can you expect from a Family restaurant. I always go with my siblings and the three of us can eat for under $30.
