Valbella

A friend who is quite serious about wine wanted to get together a couple of weeks ago here In Connecticut rather than the city.  Valbella, which I chose based on its Zagat review, did not disappoint.  The food was meticulously prepared and presented; portions were huge and worth every penny,  The soft=shell crabs were wonderful.   We were also comped a platter of heavenly gnocchi, which every home cook knows can be a challenge.  Our friend  gave the wine inventory a thumbs-up  and purchased several bottles!

This is an upscale restaurant for people who have never been to one. Although the service is good, the food is mediocre at best. Not worth the prices. The two exclamation points after "Valbella" on the sign should turn any intelligent person off.

fabulous!  dinner was amazing.  very expensive but well, well worth it!  will be returning again ASAP!  good idea to have a reservation - saturday night at 7 was packed - still busy when we left at 915.

endive, candied walnut & gorg salad

entrees:
gnocchi with veal ragu
linguine with lobster, blue crab and shrimp fra diovolo (not called fra diovolo, but can't remember title and that pretty much describes it).

tiramisu
choc mouse cake
fresh berries

exceptional wine - sauvignon blanc & chard...sorry, can't remember which bottles :-/
