As always this place is a hit!! Â Brunch is FANTASTIC!!!!
Got the chicken and waffles with an over easy egg and the sausage gravy!! Call it the nap time.....
Sat at the bar for the first time and the bartender who said she was the manager was great! Â Very helpful and super nice.... a little lost on the idea of the chicken and waffle done right but she told me she was going to try it and let me know what she thinks.. haha!! Â
Train shots, $12 all you can drink beer and the best Bloody Mary around... means take a cab or ride your bike! haha
This place is a nice place to come after work, when you're not in the mood for divey, but don't want to keep it super classy. A couple of the booths are armed with their own self-pour taps which is neat, but seems more like a novelty, and can be dangerous if you're the type who once you pop you just can't stop.
We nabbed a happy hour menu card and it said we could get a shot and a beer for $6. The super friendly/smiley waitress said we could get any beer on tap, and any shot as well as the half order of charcuterie plate that was listed under $6 too. Cha-Ching!! All for $6?! False. Â She eventually came back and told us they don't do that anymore, and asked wher we got those menus, and confiscated them. Your seductive smiles won't save you a couple stars here, friendly waitress. So instead, I ended up getting a whiskey sour, which tasted like just plain sour. My mates got the happy hour beer, and the pour came back not to the top of the glass, which is a solid few ounces if you think about it.
No trains went by, which apparently they give $2 JD shots, which couldve been fun. I might be back, but they need to get their shit together with their happy hour menu.
This is definitely one of the better places to go to in Sacramento, whether you want to grab some delicious food to eat or have a late night drink with friends. Large selection of unique beers to choose from and a decent selection of hand-crafted drinks.
I highly suggest the brunch here. I ordered the coast to coast benedict, which is ONLY about 7.95. Great price for great tasting food. I did have one issue when I received this plate, one of the eggs I received was cooked all the way through completely. I kindly asked the waitress to simply replace the egg with a new one, which I would have been totally fine with. They insisted on replacing my entire plate, which I was rather pleased with. Not too many places would go out of there way to replace an entire dish for a mistake like that, so hands down.
All in all, great service, great food, and decent prices.
We have been here multiple times in the past year. We have always had great, fast service. We are mostly there on Saturday evenings and sit in the booths, once we went on a Thursday afternoon and sat at the bar. The last time we went in for happy hour and ended up staying for dinner.
The shrimp po'boys and bacon mac and cheese are amazing! The tritip sandwich is also very good. Prior to last night I would have said the pour house burger was also amazing but they changed the menu and what was a delicious Kobe beef burger is now just plain old ground beef. The baja tacos had the smallest pieces of fish ever while the fixing and sauce were good, more fish was needed.
The service last night was awful! It took 45 mins to get our food. There were multiple instances of it taking 10 minutes or more to get a drink from the bar that was ordered. It was not our normal fun friendly poorhouse experience.
The Server had no idea what was going on and was super slow. Â We are heading pack tonight and we will see if it's any better.
I have been here several times both for post workday fun as well ad brunch - and I really like it! I have tried several things on their menu - bacon mac 'n cheese, BBQ tri-tip, BBQ pulled pork, sweet potato fries... all have been really good. They also have a great selection of beer. A fun thing - every time a train goes by, they do $2 shots of Jack - and last night you had a choice of regular Jack and Honey Jack - fun! The service is usually pretty good, but last night was not great. Our waitress kept trying to take stuff off our table before we were done with them - menus, plates... and then had the OPPOSITE level of attentiveness when it came to refilling my glass of iced tea - it went empty and I had to wait more than 5 minutes for a refile 3 or 4 times. If this had been my first visit there, I would probably feel differently about it, but not every server can be great, right? SDo I will def be back - I'll just try REALLY hard not to sit in the sub-par server's section!
Review Source:Came here for my daughter's high school grad party! Had a party of 14 and they gave us the entire patio. Â Service was promt and friendly. Â I had the salmon, my wife had the tri tip, my daughter had a there signature burger, and my son ordered mac and cheese of the appetizer menu. Everything was cooked to perfection. Â Cant wait to go back and sample more!!!
Review Source:Overall I enjoyed our visit. Nice mix of clientele was very very comfortable for anyone 20 to 60 yo. Great bonus of $2 shot of JD for every train that goes by....could be dangerous!
Nibbles were adequate although limited. Go for the beer selection!
HH is not extensive but, worth the visit. I would go here again.
Having the ROTD pop up I was reminded that our last visit here was somewhat of a letdown. It was a quiet Sunday night and our Bartender poured three Belgian beers for our group. Two that were very nice clean pours, and a third that was very clearly a few ounces less than the line on the glass and more obviously less than the other two pours.
You know how a thoughtful bartender will often even out a pour or grab the glass to top it off if there is a bit too much head, well not so much in this case. We asked our bartender if he wouldn't mind bringing the the one anemic glass up to the other two and he rudely said "that's how it's served". When we pointed to the other two glasses that were so obviously poured to the belgian glasses serving line and asked why they were so uneven "he just stared at us blankly and walked away".
I should be clear, I am very fond of Pour House. I love that they have live music, I love that they serve great beers, I love that they are only two blocks from my front door. The other bartenders (specifically the tall guy that looks like a young John Cusack stunt double) are awesome. The short guy in the t-shirt that served us on that Sunday night was just a massive rude disappointment.
Stopped in here on a whim with my 3 friends ~ lovely old landmark building (I'm curious about it's original purpose). And while it was one of our untimely Sacramento 110 degree days - the breeze on the patio out back was perfect in the evening as was the ambiance. Â I gave it 4 stars but switched to 5 b/c of the old building and selection at the bar - impressive.
Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly, adorable, Â hostess who directed us to the bar and patio. My friends all ordered the "fancy stuff" as I call it, while I stuck to a local cider. They raved about their drinks and the food looked fabulous although we didn't eat (having just relished in a meal at FIrestone). However, my husband has been with his buddies and said the pastrami sandwich is deeelish! Â
Seating is pub/bar style with scotch/whiskey/beer dispensary (tap) booth seating around the perimeter (which I think one might need reservations for??) and a patio outside. Pretty cool. Attentive staff and nothing but good things to say about the place! Â I hear that if the train blows by in the evenings, everyone gets a free shot of whiskey. Â perfect!
Came here for a friend's birthday with no expectations and the knowledge of "It's a beer place." Basically, I came, I wandered, I drank a beer, and I left. This place didn't really stand out to me other than it was pretty cool that you can pour your own beer if you sit at a booth (no wonder it's called Pour House.. duh!). The place looks tiny but when you walk towards the back there's an outdoor patio and more seats apparently, so not too shabby. It gets ridiculously packed that it takes forever for them to get your order. Lastly, the prices are pretty darn steep for drinks, so I'm not sure if I want to come back...maybe for happy hour!
Review Source:I've been back a few times and I'm still digging this place, but if they want to stay in business this summer, they're going to need to kick on the air. It's been way too hot and muggy in there the last few times. That doesn't make me want to eat, drink, or be merry. If they're charging $6 for a shot of Jameson, they can afford it.
Side note: The charcuterie plate is $14 but so, so, so worth it.
The 1920s vibe of Pour House, well-executed whisky cocktails and ginormous list of whisky make it an awesome spot for drinks whether they're early on, during happy hour or late at night. Â The prices for the cocktails at $9-10 are fantastic especially considering their quality - I enjoyed every one of mine and would highly recommend the Left-Hand and Sazerac with its phenomal finish from a pernod absinthe rinse. Â As a first drink or for those looking for something lighter, the Whisky Fig has a great balance of scotch and sweet citrus.
While food at most bars like this tends to be an afterthought, I was very impressed with my Pacific Northwest Grilled Salmon and my friend's Chicken Club. Â The former with a hefty side of tasty veggies came at just $15, a total steal for the quality and portion.
My one gripe? Â Don't come on a live music night if you plan to have any meaningful conversation with company. Â While the musicians are very good, it's just too damn loud to do anything but sit back and enjoy the music.
Pour House is a really solid bar any way you look at it. Located in an otherwise industrial pocket of midtown next to the railroad tracks, it would be easy for a lot of things to go wrong here. Despite that, Pour House has created an atmosphere that has put them on the map for everyone from serious drinkers to casual happy hour patrons.
It's a great layout, with high walls of alcohol behind the bars, a little stage in the front corner (where was once held the awesome Yelp Bartender Olympics), a couple TV's to watch sports, and the highlight of it all: booths where you can measure and pour your own beer and whiskey from taps at the table. An awesome concept that I have no doubt bring them in time and again. There is a limit on how much you can drink at these booths, but it just comes down to having the waitress come by to reset it. After all, then want you to be able to at least walk out of the place. In back there is a smaller and less attractive bar (mostly because of the bright lighting that makes you feel like you're being interrogated) and a patio out along the train track.
The food is usually pretty decent pub fare although the prices seem a little steep compared to those at other bars in the immediate area. I wouldn't come here as a regular for lunch, but I do grub down at happy hour.
Tip: Whiskey is the feature here. Especially that of the Irish variety. They've had Tullamore Dew on special a couple times and Jameson was the tap whiskey when we last sat at a booth. There is 25% off all whiskey on Wednesdays AND they give $1 whiskey shots whenever a train passes, which is quite often in the day!
Suggestions: We came in with a friend in a wheelchair and since all the tables are high tops, there was virtually very few places where she could comfortably sit and be at eye level with anyone else. So warning to some folks out there - wheel chair accessible is not the same as wheel chair friendly. Also, I suggest some lighting out front. The surrounding streets are already very poorly lit and the current sign gives off nothing more than a dull glow.
If your looking for a bar with mediocre food, and horrible service, than this is your place!
I will agree with a lot of the other Yelp reviews. They have a rather impressive craft beer list and a wonderful selection of Scotch. Since I was here for breakfast I had no need for either.
When we entered, the hipster boy with no smile didn't really greet us and said there will be a short wait once he knew we were with a small group. He was constantly looking at his phone which was behind him on the window and was far more worried about missing a text message than helping customers. 1 person from our group had arrived about 10 minutes before us and was at the bar, and had already put us on the list. We ordered Bloody Marys and found a place to wait, and wait, and wait. I started getting very annoyed when small groups of people came in and were seated right away. I understand that it's far easier to seat 2 people than 7 people. They easily could have move 2 of the table together and seated us much faster when they were empty (twice while we waited). The tables are not bolted to the floor, I looked.
Finally after 40 minutes of waiting, the hipster host asked if we wanted to sit on the patio. I would have sat on the curb by this time. Once seated at a very dirty table on the patio, our server came by rather quickly to take our order and brought us water. I ordered their Pour House Benedict. I was hoping that the punishment of this waiting was over. It wasn't! I felt like I was moved from the waiting room at the doctor's office to the exam room without the magazine. 50 minutes later they came out with 4 of our parties plates and didn't come back with my wife's, my child's, or my food for another 10 minutes! WTF!!
Once I finally got my plate and cut into the Benedict I was so irritated with the horrible inconsistently poached eggs. One was so under cooked that the whites were still clear, and the other one was so over cooked it was like a hard boiled egg! The biscuit that it was on was so dry the hollandaise sauce didn't help. The hollandaise sauce was OK at best. I can, and have made better myself at home. The potatoes looked good but had no flavor at all. Thank God they had Tapatio hot sauce! This was the worst breakfast experience I have had in years! I will never come here to eat EVER again! Â I have had better eggs Benedict at buffets! Â
The only good things I can even say about this breakfast was that the waitress gave us 25% off without even saying a word. She knew that this was all bad! The Bloody Mary was very good and should be for $8.50 each.
If I need a drink in the future and am not hungry at all, I may come back. Since there are so many other bars, with good food, that know how to run a kitchen, this probably will never happen.
I absolutely love the Pour House and their staff. They totally went out of their way to make room for our party of 12 at pretty much the last minute. We had to wait a little while but the hostess continued to come out and check on us and to give us a status update on the seating. The waiters/waitresses are super attentive and very friendly. They have a great selection of both food and drinks and the atmosphere is fun. Plus every time a train goes by you can order $2 shots of whiskey. I will definitely be going back.
Review Source:Stopped by Pour House for the first time last week for some appetizers and a few beers. Great atmosphere, has an old speakeasy feel to it. Great selection of beers and speciality drinks. We ordered the cheese sticks which are a grilled cheese sandwich cut into sticks with a marinana dipping sauce and sweet potato fries. The fries were perfect and crisp. Â I liked the cheese sticks too but wasn't wild about the sauce. The pilsner and stout we ordered were very good. This is a great place just to hang out, will definitely be back. Rumor has it they do deals on whisky shots when the train rolls by. Might just check train schedule before I go back.
Review Source:I like this place overall. However it is really small and they have "Community Seating" if you don't know what that means, it means they have a few really large tables and they seat multiple parties at them. We showed up around 6:30 on a thursday and the place was packed. We had about a 30 min wait, which was fine because we were waiting for 1 more and we got drinks at the bar meanwhile. Â When our 3rd arrived we werent seated for a little while, which i thought was odd because they had a 2 top and a booth open.. when they came and got us they asked if the 2 top with an added chair would be ok, I asked if we could have the empty booth next to it instead.. to which i was told the booths are reserved for parties of 4 or more; then we watched as 12 people pilled into the booth after we were seated. I am not exaggerating.. about 4 adult men 4 large adult women and a baby in a car seat all tried to cram in there... finally after some of them decided to just stand around the booth, they came and told them that they had a bigger table in the back for them... bottomline plan the number of your party accordingly.. or be prepared to sit at the community table.
The food was good, I had the pulled pork with sweet potato fries(which were really great) and the other 2 with me had the tri-tip sandwiches.. they also enjoyed their food. We also had bacon mac and cheese as appetizers and the grilled cheese sticks; which is basically a grilled cheese sandwich cut into pieces. They were also both good. The prices are reasonable for the quality i think. the ambiance is a little on the hipster side, but not annoyingly so.. Â
I would like to try this place again, maybe on a fri or saturday night just for a drink or two, when i am not starving and want to have dinner. Its more of a bar then grill i would say.
the decor is nice, however for us that were loyal patrons of the old Whiskey Wild it looks basically the same with tables and chairs and a freshly stained bar top on which patrons used to dance.
I did ask if there was patio seating available and i was told I was welcome to go back there but there was no server. I am not sure what that means as I did not venture back there.
Went on a random Sunday night out with the girls. Place was pretty empty but the atmosphere was still good. I liked that it was low key, we could talk and actually hear ourselves and we were able to go over some recommendations with the bartender and take our time. I was really debating trying their award winning Bloody Mary. We tasted a few beers and ultimately settled on the Goose Island Matilda Belgium style pale ale. Delicious!
They have a back bar with more seats and a nice side patio. We hung out at the front bar that evening, but I'd love to come back for brunch or another night. The interior reminds me of Rickhouse in SF.
Always been a fan of this place.  Never  had a bad time there and drinks are always well made and on time. That is if you are there any other time besides lunch.  Got there at 11:30 to find the place less than half full.  We sat ourselves and the menu was delivered to us and then we waited, and waited and watched as the place got full with folks but there was still no service so we moved to the bar.  The bartender there has always been great and got us our drinks right away but still nobody cared to take our order.  It was at this point the waitress came by to take an order from the table next to us who arrived after we did that I asked the waitress what the soup of the day was to which she turned around and flat out said "No soup today" and walked away before I could ask to have the order placed.  REWD!  Didnt even ask if tere was anything that we needed just waltzed away!!
Eventually the manager took our order at about 12:10. Â Then waited and waited until I had to say something to the staff that we cant wait any longer and will be taking our food to go. Â They politely apologized and explained that they only had ONE cook in the back and that another just arrived (this is at 12:35). Â I really am not interested in hearing about how poorly staffed you guys are and to tell me that its an exceptionally busy day is still no excuse. Â I ordered a half sandwich and a flippin' salad for Christ's sake and in my opinion it should of been no longer than 20 minutes to get our order.
Finally get our order, and another apology, but at this point I'm thinking that maybe even the fries would be on the house? Â NOPE! Â sent us on our way with our half sandwich and side salad that they didn't even give us a utensil to eat with!!!
Sorry for the long play by play. Â I still have high hopes for this place but today was one of the worst experiences I've had anywhere.
Ciao!
I can't say enough about their brunch... Their salmon benedict was wow, amazing. Â I've had it twice so far. Â Their hostess was really sweet and although there was a wait, she kept checking on us outside, and never forgot about us. Â
I also recently attended their blues night last Thursday with James Cavern and another band. Â It was a hit. Â Great crowd and great music along with some tastey beverages. Â Good place to go to day or night.
Pour House has an extensive whiskey menu. I had a large party, and was able to grab a booth with beer and whiskey on tap--which was cool. The only downside of the booth was the two hour time limit. The noise level is very high, which made it hard to converse with a group.
The food was so-so. I would come back for drinks with a few friends, but not a large group.
Took a friend out for her birthday to Pour House for dinner and had a really nice time. We decided from other Yelp reviews to start off with a whiskey fig. Thank You Yelpers! Â What a yummy cocktail! Â I never would have tried this little wonder (slash danger). Â
We then moved on to pear and blueberry cider respectfully. Later, tried the honey and cherry cider as well. My ranking goes cherry, pear, blueberry, then honey but they were all winners.
For dinner, we split the Philly cheesesteak and BBQ tri tip sandwiches with bacon mac and cheese and sweet potato fries for sides. All good, but I preferred the cheesesteak and sweet potato fries. And, we now have a new reigning champ for "best sweet potato fries I've ever had"! Â They were perfectly cooked, not at all greasy, and just melted on your tongue.
Loved the decor and vibe. Our waitress Megan was really nice, attentive, and helpful with beverage selections. Â She even Macgyvered our slightly wonky table for us so we could stop any continued loss of our drank. Â
Will definitely be patroning again.
I kind of like this place a lot now, for 1 reason: the whiskey fig. Many, many thanks to my friend Jefferson L., for pointing out the best drink in the house for me: Glenfiddich 12 Year Scotch, House Made Fig Jelly, Simple Syrup, Squeezed Lemon, Angostura Bitters. Now THAT'S the kind of crack that makes a bitch come back. I love me a fine ass cocktail. Better still, a fine Scotch cocktail.
One person mentioned, more fig, less lemon. But come on, child, it's a DRINK, not syrup! Girl, please, you want some maple syrup on the rocks? Eh, who cares what she thinks. Back to the drink.
HOLY COW. What a nice fucking drink! EVERYTHING is a little bit more beautiful on the other side of one of those beauties. If you don't love whiskey or scotch (I know few that love one but can't tolerate both) this is not your drink. But since whiskey is always my first choice, this drink gets Pour House five stars from me.
There's your NEED-TO-KNOW information.
Other not so important information is that the atmosphere is pretty chill, and thank heaven, it is nothing like the whiskey wild of years ago. But shit, I still can't forget those dizzy chicks lining up on the bar and dancing. So if you see me cracking up all by myself here, blame it on Elif.
The bartenders are all extremely nice. No poker faces here!
Back to that drink. I would love to go to Burgers & Brew, get a big burger, then hightail it over here, have three or four of these whiskey figs, catch a taxi home, and go straight to bed. That's what I call a good night. It is a big old good. Those drinks are the one exception I'll make to my overall gluten-freedom. They're THAT good. A+
What can I say. I can toss the bagels, the english muffins, the pasta, the twizzlers; but don't you touch Mom's whiskey.
This place is my go to on Friday nights, Saturdays, Monday nights, Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, and Thursday afternoons! The bartenders and servers are always friendly, and there's a huge whisky and beer selection. It doesn't hurt that it's within stumbling distance from my house, and I had an awesome birthday celebration there for which they were very helpful and tolerant.
On my most recent adventure there I tried the chicken strips and sweet potato fries. I love me some food, and have to say, the chicken strips were delicious... food of the gods. I washed it down with a sour beer (because I'm fancy like that) and macked on some hunies. Just kidding, my super-hot girlfriend was there with me and we talked about how great the chicken was for a while and then were on our way back to the house to "catch some Zzzs."
We came here with high expectations for brunch and we were moderately satisfied.  The place was buzzing on a Sunday morning/afternoon but we seated immediately in one of the pub style tables located in the center of the establishment. There are dark wood country décor booths along the wall, a small stage for live music and a full bar.  The place was quite drafty due to the ceiling fans being turned up on full tilt but the girls were fortunate enough to have hoodies.  Our waiter upon taking our drink order notified us that the coffee machine was broken and there no JAVA available!  Major point deduction there, but he made up for it by creating a pomegranate lemonade for my wife and not charging us for it--Kudo's to our waiter!  We sampled the following items:
Bloody Mary: spicy and delicious with green beans instead of celery as the garnish $8
Virgin Bloody Mary: same spicy yumminess without the alcohol at half the cost $4.00
Coast to Coast benedict: pastrami benedict served over a extra thick biscuit. Â The flavor was good but there wasn't nearly enough pastrami and the biscuit although tasty was too thick and a little dry. This could have been fixed with extra sauce. $8
Salmon Benedict: major disappointment as the salmon was too small and fishy. Wifey was not happy $8.50
Overall this is a cool little spot to hang out and I am thinking maybe there sandwiches are better than their breakfast items. Â The bloody mary was worth the trip by itself so I am giving this place 3 stars before arriving at a final verdict.
Once a month, a few friends and I get together for Brunch (the BBB girls) Today we went to the Pour house. Â Lured by the promise of Bloody Mary's (winner of Best in California and 2nd best in the country) - and yeah they're good!
The Pour House came up trumps. Â The food was good, the drinks and drink top ups very attentive. Â Our server, Katie was a sweet heart. Â As with other times, with 6 or 7 of us in attendance each time, we do want to chat some, last month we were very disappointed to be asked to vacate our table at the Fox and Goose as we were already mid way through leaving, which was rude and unnecessary.
No such problem at the Pour House.... nice and relaxed. Â The only comment in the negative from the BBB girls was the Hollandaise was a little vinegary, but mine was fine on my Salmon Benedict.
I like the other reviewers comment of a walking coffee line. Â That might be a good idea, as there are no brunch reservations and they open at 10am
What a great find in midtown, cool bar friendly staff open mic nights Friday and Saturday.
My friends and I came here on a Saturday, no cover to get in but its busy so if you find a place to sit you're lucky. If you want a table or a booth you have to put your name down. If a booth is available you'll have to spend a minimum of $50 and two hours. I think its a good deal if you've got a party of 5 or more because you get a place to sit. I love the concept of having taps on the table, makes it so much fun. I didn't have the beer but the whiskey drinks they made were really good, I'm a fan of their whisky drinks.
The music was good, and whenever a train would go by they'd have $2 Jameson shots which is fun. The staff are great, friendly and come around every few minutes to check on you.
Food:
Veggie sliders: really good I highly recommend it.
Sweet potato fries: can't go wrong with this.
Classic buffalo wings
I think I found a new place to hang out with friends for a chill night.
Cool bar. Great concepts. A great list of beers. Draft tables. And handcrafted drinks with housemade mixers and juices. Why shouldn't you come here?
Whiskey sours are a favorite here. All drinks are made with fresh ingredients and a the bar has a really cool "speak-easy" feel to it.
I'll return sometime soon.
The individual tabletop taps give my inner lush a sense of control and creativity, something lacking at most bars. No more asking for another shot of Jameson or another beer and getting a look of shame from a bartender. You are your own bartender!
Seriously though, it's a great concept. The tabletop tap with the flat screen that keeps track of your drinks? It's just plain cool.
The bar itself also won me over with its warm decor that reminded me of a speakeasy. I was ready for Tom Hardy from Lawless to walk in (that would've definitely earned them their sixth star if possible!). Luckily they had a hot bartender who was Tom's doppelgänger. And he was friendly and knowledgeable to boot. All great qualities in the person serving you your liver-killers.
The bar food was amazing as well. I didn't know grilled cheese could be improved upon. But slice it into sticks and serve it with a subtly sweet tomato compote for dipping and it's crusty cheesy heaven. Â
The bar is right next to the train tracks. If you're concerned about the noise when the train goes by, have no fear my friends. The Pour House makes all that pain go away by serving $2 train shots of Jack every time the building rattles. Genius.
After a long day at work, Hubby and I decided to head on over to Pour House, an overdue visit! Â We arrived around 4:45 ish on a Thursday, there were plenty of tables available and spots at the bar. Â We parked our cabooses at the bar, and was greeted by two young gentlemen wearing driver caps, suspenders and button up shirts. Â It took awhile for our drink and food orders to be placed but once we settled in we kept ourselves busy giving the building a once over. Taking a look around, the decor was reminisce of a old time bar full of every whiskey we could think of.
I settled on a drink with ginger beer, gin, lime and mint (sorry forgot the name). Â My Hubby decided on a pale ale. Â For eats we ordered the catfish po boy and an extra side of sweet potato fries. Â Everything was very tasty, especially enjoyed the Cajun aiole on the catfish po boy.
Service: though there were two gentlemen behind the bar, we quickly found out one was brand new and was only given the task of shaving the ginger for the house made ginger beer. Â And the other was the bartender, but as the room filled up he was quickly overwhelmed and running around. Â Clearly he knew he was not giving us as much attention as he should have and he compted our last two drinks. Â Much appreciated, very in tune with the needs of your customer!
Our experience was overall good, and we will be returning soon. Â Maybe for brunch?? And Bloody Mary's, since that appears to be the rave of the place (winning 1st place in California and 2nd place National for their Absolute Bloody Mary)!
My husband and I have been to the Pour House twice now. Both times have been really nice. The cocktails are great, the beer selection is great and the food is very, very good. I recommend the shrimp po'boy.
Like other reviews have said the service can be so-so. The first time we went it was on New Years Eve around 7 p.m. so it wasn't crowded yet and we were able to get a booth with a group of friends. Our server was great. Very friendly, knew a lot about the different beers and drinks and even brought me a brunch menu because she heard me commenting on their unlimited mimosas and beer for brunch. The second time we went it was pretty busy and our server seemed very overwhelmed and forgetful. We put in our drink order about 10 minutes after we sat down and then waited another 20 minutes to get our drinks and to order food.
But, this place has a great atmosphere and a great place to go with a group. It's starting to become our favorite place to bring people from out of town.
"Ohh...POUR House...I thought you said..."
Pour House has slowly nudged itself as part of my rotation on where to go for a chill night. I love the 1930s themed interior along with high quality cocktails to go with it. I like the novelty of the table taps. Having a Jameson tap can be really fun or really bad. Beer selection is great. I got the opportunity to sample the food. It's nothing spectacular but you appreciate it once you're in that hungry-drunken state.
The only gripe I have about this establishment is every time they have live entertainment (which seems to be often), the volume is way too loud. It makes it really hard or impossible to have a conversation with the person next to you. You appreciate the live band, but then you give a sigh of relief as they go on a short break. It could possibly be due to the acoustics of the room?
Fun tip: Since Pour House is located on/next to train tracks, take advantage of their $2 whiskey shots every time a train comes by. Don't worry. You won't miss it. It's loud.
My friend highly recommended that I try Pour House. I'm not a fan of whiskey, but I decided to try this place out anyway. I came to eat and drink on a Saturday night, and it was packed, as expected! We ended up at the bar in the back because it was less crowded.
Drinks/Food:
I ordered the Irish Smoked Apple, but unfortunately, they were out of the house-made smoke apple butter. I will have to make my way back to try this drink because it sounds really good.
Anyways, the bartender said she could make a modified version of the drink, so I gave that a shot and it ended up tasting pretty awesome. Unfortunately, the drink doesn't have a name, so I am of no help, if you wanted to try the modified Irish Smoked Apple.
I also ordered the Old Fashioned. It was a bit too strong for me, but I could taste that it was a well-made drink.
Ever wonder why the bartenders light a match, burn the lemon skin, and rub it on the rim of your glass? Apparently, they rub the oils from the lemon onto the rim, so that every time you take a sip of your drink, there will be a hint of lemon. I thought that was really cool and interesting.
For food, I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sticks with roasted tomato compote and the Coast to Coast Basket with catfish. As a meal on its own, I wouldn't recommend, but as bar food, it's awesome!
Side Notes
Ambiance:
Pour House is truly a unique atmosphere, and has a historic vibe. It's really loud, so you'll probably have to yell in order to have a conversation. They also have live music, which is pretty cool!
Service:
The service was really great. The place was packed on a Saturday night, as expected, and the hostess really did her best to try to find my group a table. The bartender was super nice. She recommended several drinks, and also made sure we were okay, even though she was busy helping others.
Overall:
I had a really great experience, and enjoyed my night here. I will be back to try the Irish Smoked Apple!
Personally I couldn't ask for more from Pour House. They're close, they have decent prices, great food - everything I've tried from the spinach salad to the tri tip sandwich is delicious. Friendly bartenders & servers, and the food comes out quick! They have an extensive and great beer and whiskey selection.
In my opinion, it is much better to come here in the afternoon or early evening rather than a Friday or Saturday night. I have yet to come for brunch but I hear it is great.
There is a lot to love about Pour House. I have been here a handful of times and I always have a good experience. For one, they have plenty of beer and whiskey. Really, more than you could ever imagine. Their cocktail drinks are also delicious, try their Moscow Mule or one of the gin drinks. They have a full servicing kitchen housing  Coast to Coast food (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/coast-to-coast-sandwiches-Sacramento">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>). Sweet potato fries = <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbomb.com&s=bb4f996415a9c2f21137e27cfb68f439a48cec2652b53e9b50dd7e766dbe177e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bomb.com</a>.
This place is great for medium-sized groups. The booths with taps are a unique feature that I haven't seen anywhere else in Sacramento. I love the vibe here, although it can get a little crowded on weekends. The staff is not the friendliest, but definitely not bad enough to keep me away. If all else fails, Benny's (Q Street Bar) is right across the street!
Looking for a really cool place to drink amazing bourbon options or an aray of draft beer options then go to the pour house. This pre prohibition style spot is super dark, cool and friendly. Special thanks to Celia and Tim for the amazing service. The staff here is well informed on the food, drink and bar conversation. Came to this place for a quick bite prior to flying out and the puled pork (which is slow cooked in house) hit the spot not to mention the backed Mac and cheese was rich and everything you hope for in Mac and cheese. The ambiance here is dressed up or dressed down great for a date night or even a regular local spot. Either way kudos to the person who trained and hired the staff here for a remarkable Job.
Four stars for qaulity, customer service and products. If I gave you five you wouldn't grow.
