Really pleasantly surprised at how good the food is at this place. Be warned, this is not a fancy place and service is a bit slow. But they do a lot of take-out and there's a mix of clientele so they're making a lot of folks happy. What I can say is the food is fresh and everything is made in-house, which is what a restaurant should do. You can see they have a fairly large kitchen so they have the ability to make it all there. I had three tacos - carne asada, chicken and al pastor - all three very good and a good value. I asked for avocado and got big slice for each taco. Their horchata is tasty - not too sweet, with just a hint of cinnamon. Hubby had the chorizo & steak torta, a nice flavor combo, along w/a beer. Our waitress was working the upsell (I have no problem with that) and tried to get us to have dessert, but we were too stuffed from dinner. It's really a good deal, too - we got out of there for $25 - inclduing tip. This place is a great choice for those days where you don't have time to make dinner or don't feel like cooking.
Review Source:Don Chema knows how to steak taco you! It's actually ridiculous how good they are!
I put the sweat pants on last time i was there and got a steak burrito and some chips and guacamole! Was NOT disappointed. I kept talking to myself in real time while eating. Things like "Oh God this is great" and "uhhhh yeah...:" and "I'm fat!" The staff are friendly, and the price is right! Very generous portions!
Logan Square has no shortage of cheap Mexican joints, and I'm not sure how this one has sustained a 4 star rating average. . .
On my visit here the food was not particularly good, the service was incredibly inattentive, the undrinkable Michelada consisted of a huge liter stein of equal parts Pacifico and generic V8, and the television's volume was turned to 11 and featured a documentary in Spanish about the Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, re-assessing his legacy to determine whether he may have really been a Robin Hood style man of the people.
I was the only one in here when I came for dinner, believe it or not. . . I won't be back.
