Don't bother dining at the place. We went on a weekday night and there were only 3 other tables. And where did they sit everyone? In the same back corner  instead of spreading everyone out amongst the SEVERAL other empty tables. I ordered the flank steak combo and the meat was ridiculously over salted. My cocktail was weak and bland. Bake potato dry. Our server was enthusiastic but clearly new to the eatery as his lack knowledge of the dishes was overt.
I will not go back --- try to avoid this eatery as well.
We were on a quest to try new restaurants...and stumbled upon this gem. Â Tried the Revolucion Salad, guacamole, tacos carnitas, mushrooms with zucchini. Â The waiter and the manager were great. Â Food was excellent. Â Many options. Can't wait to go back. Â
Small problem, not worth mentioning. Â Manager immediately came to table to apologize...Wow! Â This never happens!
Stopped in on a Friday night, no reservations. The restaurant was busy, but we were able to sit down immediately with no wait.
I live in the neighborhood so I was really excited to check this place out... I left disappointed. Ordered guacamole for an appetizer - small, bland; same with the flank steak entree - nothing special. A little pricier than most Mexican restaurants - though they are billing themselves as a steakhouse so I guess a higher price point is to be expected.
Good service, the waitress took care of us. Not sold on going back as there's better Mexican options in the neighborhood.
What can I say about Revolucion? Â The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, and with it being colder out - I love that it is within walking distance to my apartment. Â If you are not sure about/familiar with some of the beers just ask for a sample. Â They would rather give you a few samples than have you sit with a drink you don't like in front of you for an hour. Â The marg's are delicious (if not too strong - yep, for real). Â The food is touch and go, with most of it being better than average. Â It's a great neighborhood spot and I'm so glad its here!
Review Source:I very much enjoyed my dinner here. Everything on the menu looked good, and the one thing I had (a pork chop) was very good. Others in my group got the tenderloin tips, skirt steak, half roasted BBQ chicken, and pumpkin seed encrusted tilapia. No one had any complaints. The margaritas were good too, though one in my group got a mojito and said it was kinda boring. I cant wait to go pack and try some of the other items.
Review Source:My husband and I gave it a second chance. The first time they did not charge us for our meal because the ribs were dry and they ran out of BBQ sauce. The manager was very nice so we tried it again. The fajitas were just ok and my husband did not eat the beans or the rice (not needed) that seemed like they had too much lard. I had Spinach arugula salad w salmon. The salmon was tasteless and overcooked. The waitress was super nice. We did not complain because the manager was so nice. Not going back. Two times too much. If you like huge dishes of food, the you might enjoy. I prefer to dine.
Review Source:After reading the reviews I decided to check the place out. We arrive around 7:50 and after about an hour wait we were finally serve our dinner my husband had the Rib eye steak and I had the Pechuga Rellena. Both were okay. The Server "kate" was alright, but in all honestly I think the busser attended to our needs much better. Dessert we got Flan, nothing special. I felt the overall experience was alright, and im not expecting to go back anytime soon, such a shame I had such high hopes for this place.
Review Source:Excellent experience overall! We were seated right away at a table by the windows. The ambiance and music were perfect. Our server, Milton, was fantastic. He made great recommendations and was very attentive (my wine glass never got too low!) The food was excellent and the portions were generous. No complaints and I will definitely be back soon!
Review Source:We decided to try this place on our fifth anniversary. (I know, it's risky to try new places on special occasions, but we wanted somewhere nearby and not one of the usual haunts.) We were not disappointed at all.
The only negative to our night, if it could ven be called that, was our wait for a table. We had a reservation, but still had to wait only about 10 to 15 minutes, which is not at all bad for a Saturday at peak time. However, the manager was very communicative with us and knew it was a special event for us; he gave us what he called "the best seat in the house," and to us, it was. (Upstairs two top by the railing.) It is also something one has to expect for the day and time; not to do so would be a little self-centered and unrealistic in expectation.
While waiting, we had margaritas. My husband had the house, and he liked it, as he ordered two more during the meal. I had the smoked margarita, which had a unique chipotle flavor and was very good; however, if you like a standard margarita, this one's not for you, as the taste is an acquired one, but I absolutely loved it. Our cocktail server was very helpful and explained everything. She set the standard
When we were seated we ordered the guacamole rustico, which the manager bought for us because he felt bad for our wait. (We weren't at all upset about the wait, so they get special points for attentiveness here.) It was fantastic.
My husband ordered the Camarones at Ajillo (shrimp with plaintains and rice) and I had the Petite Filet with the cotija (gorgonzola) crust and chipotle mashed potatoes. Both were fantastic. For drinks, I switched to the Cantarito Tropical, which is very tangy and zesty and served in a petite terra cotta mug of sorts. I ordered two of them, so obviously I liked it, but again, if you don't like tangy and citrus, you won't like this drink. I loved it!
We already had dessert waiting at home, so we did not get anything here. We were seated at about 7:45 and had paid our bill by 9:20, so even with it being a very busy Saturday night, the execution here was top-notch.
I've read some of the other reviews that were less-than-enjoyable experiences, and I have to say, they must have been reviews from when the restaurant opened. If that's the case, from our perspective, they have worked out the kinks, and they are a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. In an era where customer service and attention to detail seems an exception rather than the standard by which restaurants should define themselves, Revoluccion paces the pack. We are extremely thankful for the unnecessary steps everyone took to make our night special. I started to give them four stars, but I think the fact that their focus on the customer is so great that they earned the fifth star I just added. I am very thankful for that, and for the way they made us feel.
Unfortunately have to downgrade my review.  Went on a busy Saturday night and it just wasn't up to par this time.  I arrived later after my 3 friends were there and just as the food had been delivered.  I didn't have set of silverware or water, even though there was food at my place.  Not a big deal.  Just ask for one.  Asked a busboy for silverware, he brought me a fork.  No napkin.  Asked same busboy for a napkin and he went off looking for one.  Two  minutes later finally asked our waitress for a napkin.  He finally brought one and she did as well.  But it took about 5 minutes just to get a napkin.  Annoying.  I know they were busy but shouldn't napkins be readily available?  I wanted water but figured it would take too long so didn't bother.  My food also wasn't as good. Had the tilapia tacos again and the shells just fell apart.  Became a very messy meal.  Tasted good but was annoyed that the soft shells couldn't keep it together.  Margarita was good again and the waitress was friendly but just a different and not as good experience this time.  So go when it's not busy, probably a weeknight.
Review Source:Let me start from the end of my night. Tres leches, skirt steak and chicken combo platter with a MONSTER baked potato and my friend had the 12oz skirt steak over a bed of vegetables with a side of chipotle mashed potatoes, AND Â 4 margaritas...whew! Oh and let's not forget the gaucamole rustica for an app!
Ruben, our waiter, was very accommodating and very helpful when making our entree choices, heck, I don't think you could have ordered anything that was bad. Seven degress of separation, turns out Ruben knew my cousin!
A great friend of mine mentioned this place to me and I was like ehhhhh, another mexican place. BUT this isn't anything like another mexican restaurant...this is a STEAKHOUSE and we'll be BACK!
Thanks to our friends at El Mariachi for sharing....nice job Don Tony.
After hearing about this place and wandering by it all the time, I finally took my girlfriend there for dinner. Â It was a little chaotic at first as there's no real waiting area to speak of but we were able to sit at the bar and order a drink.
When we were seated, the waitress was amazing. Â She was the type of person that is honest with a group. Â If we said we liked a certain thing (nothing too spicy for my girlfriend), she was able to point is in the right direction. Â She was spot on. Â The service was also very attentive. Â I'm not sure my glass of water was ever empty.
We started with a couple of appetizers, the Guacamole Rustico and this queso fondito. Â Both are highly suggested. Â My girlfriend then ordered the Skirt Steak and the Ancho-Coconut Fried Shrimp combination and I got the Alambres. Â There was a ton of food, and we threw the leftovers in the oven and even they came out great. Â We capped off the night with some flan. Â I wasn't a big fan of it myself but I've never been a big dessert guy. Â
Overall, the sangria was delicious, the food was great and the service was always on point. Â Can't wait to go back in the summer to spend time with friends and have some cold drinks.
Went here on 12/12/12. Go figure
So I'm walking down the street and I see this place and I say what the hay, might as well go in. Â I went on a Wednesday after work around 4:30. With the exception of a couple people at the bar and a few people at a table or two this place was empty. That's actually how I like it, off-peak and empty so I can get in and out. I'm not really a fan of waiting.
Anyways, the service was good. The food was pricey but nothing to brag about. I mean its a "steakhouse" in that neighborhood so I guess you can expect those prices. But the food was really no better than what you'd find in your typical hole in the wall mexican restaurant. I mean they have a large menu selection, unique drinks, but all in all I'll probably never go back. And its not because I didn't like it, but I just don't see any point. Again nothing to brag about.
Loved, loved, loved this place.
I read the low-rated reviews and I'm shaking my head. Â Yes, this is a Mexican restaurant but it's a STEAKHOUSE. Â I think it's hilarious that people order their tacos and complain that they're bland and overpriced. Â This place is owned by the same people that own El Mariachi, from what I understand. Â So you're basically waiting longer and paying more to eat El Mariachi tacos next to a waterfall.
Nope, this place serves one heck of a steak. Â I got a bone-in ribeye and added mole sauce. Â Heavenly. Â Their fries are spectacular too, with Chihuahua cheese sprinkled on them. Â The service could use a little work (messed up BF's beer order, waited a while even w/reservation), but I don't take off stars for ticky-tacky stuff.
Excellent, Revolucion. Â We loved it and will be back as soon as we can!
I have not been to the Boystown area in long time but this weekend I was glad to go with my partner and great friends of mine. Â My friend suggested this restaurant because she heard great reviews from other friends. We made reservations early in the day for a 6:15 PM table. Â When we arrived we were seated right away and we had the most helpful, caring, and informative waitress name Sarah. Â She explain the dishes, gave us ideas on flavor, and informed us on the different types of Margaritas. Â May I suggest the Cantarito Tropical Margarita! Its delicious and it comes in a clay-made cup. Â The flavor in this margarita is really fresh, most margaritas taste like a lot of sugar was added, this one is simple and fresh. Â The steaks taste amazing. When you say medium rare, its MEDIUM RARE! Â The atmosphere is great. Â Its loud but its because people are having a great time and that is what its all about. Enjoy :-)
Review Source:I am from San Diego so I love me some good Mexican food. I have been searching for a place that has ceviche and this place have 3 types! As soon as I saw that (and the prep cook in the bar area making the ceviche), I knew this place was going to be good.
We sat in the bar area so we could watch football playoffs. It was loud and there was not much walking room when a large group set up show at the bar. The bar area was clean, had a beautiful water feature and super friendly staff.
The server at our table was polite but at times I could barely hear him because of the noise of the bar. The restaurant side seemed more suitable to conversations...
This place is new and you can see it in some of the workings. It took a while for my server to get an answer when I asked if I could have the Filet Revolcion but with a 6 oz. instead of a 10 oz. filet. But the cook came out and spoke with personally to make sure what I was asking. All of the staff were very responsive and very friendly. Just a few procedures to work out (special orders).
As for the food.... PHENOMENAL! We had the guacamole rustica, shrimp ceviche, Camarones al Belmar, Revolucion Steakburger, and the Filet Revolucion. All of us had "moments" after taking our first bites. Best Mexican food I have had in Chicago so far (I only moved here a few months ago).
I have worked in all facets of a restaurant (dishwasher to manager and everything in between) so I am familiar with the workings inside and out. Usually when I sit for dinner I am looking at the operational details, not here. Our waitress, Sarah, has an extensive and impressive knowledge of the menu, helping us navigate through it, which can be a bit fussy. She had fantastic recommendations on everything from cocktails, (mine: Revolucion margarita with Frida Kahlo tequila) appetizers, ( tilapia ceviches) to the wonderful jalapeno wine reduction served with my perfectly cooked, medium-rare bone in ribeye with a blue cheese crust. All of the food at our table were greeted with oohs and awes. The restaurant was buzzing, full and lively. I also was impressed that a manager (Nate) came to talk with us, and each other table as well.
The only two things I would criticize are that my blue cheese crust was not brown and crusty and the water service stopped immediately after we paid the check.
I will be back. It's rare for me to go into a restaurant and totally forget that I have worked in this industry for more years then I care to admit.
I'd give it a B- to C+. The drinks were fine and we really liked the guacamole. The chips were some of the best I've had. The salad was  cold and wilted, so I'm assuming it  must have been made and dressed much earlier and refrigerated. The entrees were disappointing. I'm not sure if it was the fault of kitchen or the waiter, but our orders were completely confused. I did not get the meat I ordered, but by the time the waiter came to check on us I was half done with it. He offered to replace it, but I did not want to wait another 15 minutes for the actual meal I ordered. Some of us ordered a lobster special add-on to accompany our steaks. We were told it would be $5 more, but on the bill we were charged $10. All in all, the meal was disappointing and not worth the price.
Review Source:Margaritas were pretty good, but the rest of the meal was just ok. Â The restaurant is trying to take our normal Lakeview mexican restaurants, serve the same food, provide a slightly nicer setting, and jack up the price. Â Service was pretty good if even perhaps a little rushed...they tried taking our plates or glasses several times before we were done with food or cocktails. Â It's still new so I assume servers are working on the act of how to manage this. Â I was also bummed that with my fajitas there wasn't anything more than guac and sour cream that came with it. Â I'm use to getting some salsas as well.
Review Source:Went here last night for dinner with my wife and friends. Â What's important to note is that this restaurant has a strong focus on steak. Â Doesn't matter if you're a Mexican food fan or not, you come here to eat good, quality steaks. Â
The quality of the Rib Eye cut was impeccable. Â Cooked to perfection when asked for medium rare. Â Service was quality. Â Drinks were quality. Â
Overall, this place deserves a visit by any true steak connoisseur in Chicago.
Only drawback is parking in this area. Â Street parking is almost a non option, and the lot across the street is rather expensive.
Being a HUGE Mexican food fan, I was overjoyed hearing there was a Mexican restaurant opening just a few steps away from my apartment. I imagined too many strong margaritas with plenty of salt, endless chips and salsa, and some delicious tacos. Is that so much to ask??
Revolucion was nothing I had imagined. I actually went there probably over a month ago with my family on a Saturday night. Granted, it did open just a few weeks before we visited, I don't think that's an excuse for low quality food. Yes, I know this is a "steakhouse", but why no chips and salsa? Why dry tortillas with a tablespoon of dry, tasteless filling and hardly any garnishes? And WHY weak margaritas?! Â I also couldn't fathom why there is a rule that one cannot order a variety of tacos. I am still confused to this day ...
Because my family wasn't looking for anything fancy, my dad and I both ordered the fajitas, and the rest ordered the taco dinner. We also ordered queso fundido and some kind of specialty guac. The guacamole tasted like they didn't use the best avocados, and the queso fundido was very average at best. The fajitas were, again, average. Nothing special and a little bland. The tacos really blew my mind - four small tortillas with a tiny bit of filing and hardly any toppings. I tried one of my brothers' steak tacos and the tortilla broke in my hand. Looking at the prices, I was amazed by what they were charging for this quality of food. This probably goes without saying, but I felt bad bringing my family there for a special night out to dinner.
Hopefully by now, they're read the reviews and have made some improvements, but I'm hesitant to try it again. It's a shame, really, because based on the residents in the area, we'd be filling that place daily if the drinks were strong, the price was right, and the food was what we were looking for. Oh, and free chips and salsa! I'm praying the owners make some revisions because I DO want to be a fan! I really do!
OMG, I can't wait to go back! Â I read the other reviews about this place being expensive, but I didn't find that at all. Â Maybe having lived in LA for the past 11 years gives me a new definition of what's expensive, but I thought this was very reasonable for the huge portions. Â We got two entrees--the Cecina (?) steak and the half roasted chicken--and each was $14. Â The chicken (with its tangy tamarind sauce--yum!) was super tender, and came with this amazing corn (esquina?) and some tasty (but spicy) mashed potatoes. Â The steak came with tortillas, guacamole, and salsa. Â I loved both--maybe slightly preferred the steak. Â Our margarita was delish. Â So, okay-I guess if you're used to eating Chipotle, and that's your definition of Mexican food, this is expensive. Â But this was a great night out, delicious food, great service... I thought it was 100% worth it.
Review Source:Bottom line: food was decent, service was not.
I was there with two others on a Friday night and it was busy -- which is good! Â It's the kind of energy East Lakeview could use more of. Â There was a half-hour wait for a table, but we were lucky enough to find a few seats at the bar. Â We had a couple drinks while we waited for the table and the margaritas were very good. Â So far, so good!
The food for our meal was a little hit-or-miss, however. Â The chips were nice and crispy and the salsa pretty good (though they didn't explain what the three varieties were). Â The shrimp ceviche seemed like it was actually cooked, then cured -- not quite right. Â My fish was cooked really well and the pumpkin-seed crust was delicious, but it was a bit over-salted (even for my salt-loving tastes). Â My friend's T-bone steak was good, but had an extra-small tenderloin portion. Â My partner's bone-in ribeye was cooked perfectly to order -- no issues there. Â Our side of mushrooms came out after my friend was completely done and my partner was almost done even though we'd asked about them when the dishes came out which leads to the worst element of the night...
As I said, it was a busy night there so we definitely attenuated our service expectations -- it's not like every table gets its own server! Â But our issues were mostly not due to inattentiveness, but to attitude. Â My partner wanted to substitute a vegetable for his potato which she flatly rejected -- that may be the policy of the chef/restaurant, but at least offer an up-charge or the addition of a side instead of just completely rejecting the request. Â When my friend attempted to explain specifically what he was looking for as far as temperature, she interrupted him and said he had to pick an option from the menu. Â When the mushrooms came out after my friend was done eating and we said we no longer wanted them, she responded that he was only half-way through his dinner; sure, there was steak on his plate, but he was done! Â I could go on, but you get the point. Â On the chance that she was just having a bad day, I won't mention her name, but if that's how she is every night, she'll be souring every table's dining experience she works.
That said, I still have high hopes for this place, particularly since they're open late-night! Â The decor is nice, the energy is great, and the food is promising -- I'm sure they're still working out some kinks since they're still relatively new.
I guess the newish trend is "fancy" Mexican food? Â To me that's kind of odd since the ingredients used in most Mexican cuisines are rather inexpensive. Â I mean, even though I love Mexican food, how much can you really charge for a dish that consists of skirt steak, tomatoes, avocado, and oaxaca? Â Ok though, I'll play along. Â
The food is actually pretty good. Â There is a pretty diverse range of menu options, although I'd like to see a few more dinner salads on the menu (it's a steakhouse after all). Â The best item I had was actually my salad: the grilled Caesar (yes, hardly a Mexican dish but it was still quite good). Â They halved a head of romaine and just grilled it. Â I loved the slight char contrasted with the fresh crunch of the leaves. Â Well done. Â The beef dishes were solid, nothing that you'd remember after a few weeks, but they were tasty to be sure. Â The plating was very elegant; that was probably the most memorable aspect of the food. Â The alcohol menu is pretty enormous, so if you're into beer (mostly Meixcan and USA), wine, or cocktails, you'll be happy.
The waiters are very nice but it's pretty obvious that they're still working the kinks out (the place is just 3 weeks old at this point I think). Â So we got the appetizers and then the entrees came out in literally less than five minutes. Â We actually had to put the entrees on another empty table until we were ready for them, which was really annoying.
So much promise with this place. Nice bar, attentive staff, nice menu. But that's about it really. We were here last Saturday and tried the queso fundido, steak fajitas, carne asada taquiza, chile rellenos, and guacamole. Now I know this is billed as a steakhouse so perhaps that's where we erred. But the food was by and large institutional, bland, and of low-quality. No salsa either. We asked for salsa, we got Tabasco. Bland guacamole that had too much lime juice and not enough everything else. Plus they clearly used cheaper California avocados instead of the premium Hass avocado, resulting in a blander, runnier consistency.
Simply put, this is Chili's with different dressing. Maybe the steaks are better.
This place is a great addition to the neighborhood! We went around 8:30 on a Saturday and waited about 30 min for a table. Between the awesome vibe, incredible margaritas and great food, I will definitely be going back. Great date night place or girls night spot:) The smoked and jalapeño maragaritas were unbelievably great! Service was quick too!
Review Source:I am so happy to see this place finally open in the long vacant Triangle Camera space.
My partner and I went the week after they opened, so we were prepared for some kinks in service and food. We were pleasantly surprised to have a seamless experience. Our. Server was charming, and the food was terrific! We started with Rustico Guacamole and it was so delicious I wanted a second serving! I had Shrimp in Garlic Butter and my Partner had Shrimp Tacos. A big YUM to both. We also shared the Grilled Caesar and Esquites (Grilled Cream Corn) and we loved everything. In fact, we loved it so much we went back the following week and had another delicious meal.
The service both times was good and the charming Manager, Jorge, came over and chatted with us about our experience. Can't wait until my next visit!
Very fancy Mexican Restaurant. Â My friend chose this and we decided to try it. Â It was a 20 min wait on a Saturday night. Â We were seated right away. Â The place is pretty tight. Â one person can walk thru the isle to go to the table. Â But it was manageable.
Anyhow, the food was good, not the usual mexican restaurant, so the choices are a bit limited. Â My friend and I got the stuffed pepper, little too spicy for us and it was filling. Â The waitress and bus boys were very helpful and on task.
Love the set up, very elegant and the atmosphere is comfy. Â If your ever in that area, try it!
Went here on November 3,2012, Saturday night at 7:15pm. The wait was about 20 minutes. We all got a round of their house margaritas at the bar.
Ambience: Beautifully decorated. Like the ceiling with its stars and clouds. Comfortable seating at bar and table. Didn't feel cramped sitting upstairs even though it was a full house. Noise level was high but was still able to hold a conversation. It's brand new, so everything is clean. If I had to find a complaint; the menu was a little sticky but no big deal.
Drinks: We all had the house margaritas ($8). Very smooth, not overly sugary. Not very strong, but good. They might be watery but then again I was drinking slowly. The glasses are heavy margarita glasses. I feel bad for the servers because they are very top heavy and tip over easily. I witnessed one unfortunate spill.
Food: Ordered the guacamole "rustico". It had less of a creamy consistency than expected. It was more watery perhaps due to more lime juice. Entree was the shrimp tacos. Delicious. 4 tacos for $14. Good portion. My only complaint is that using only one corn tortilla per taco tears easily and sauce leaks all over your hands. Â Use 2 tortillas perhaps? Wish the management would allow you to mix n' match the different tacos. They have several types and are all 4 for $14.
Service: Attentive and Friendly. Didn't feel rushed even though there was a longer wait line when we left.
Price and menu: Very good. If you aren't a steak person, don't talk yourself out from going because it's billed as a steak house. Check out their menu online. It has a ton of different entrees. Lots of them are well under $20. It's an upscale mexican restaurant but very reasonably priced. Vegetarians, dietary restricted, or pick-eaters will find something to enjoy.
In summary, a few kinks, typical of a new restaurant. But, a good concept, terrific menu, and welcome addition to East Lakeview.
This establishment is the best thing yet that has come to the East Lakeview neighborhood. The waitstaff is extremely friendly & personal. The food is amazing & the made with the best quality ingredients. You can tell there was detail, thought, and experience when creating this restaurant.
I ordered the petite filet which was perfectly cooked. I was pleasantly suggested to add the "Oscar" addition to my streak by Milton, the charming & all knowledgable bartender. The alcohol list here is top notch!
I highly recommend checking this place out. Whether for a drink, an appetizer after work with friends or a three hour dinner with friends including after dinner drinks and dessert. Such an incredible experience. Jorge has done an exceptional job making the locals feel welcome. I will be back time and time again!!
This place was amazing and it was cheap!!
Two meals with an appetizer and drinks came out to 61 dollars at this restaurant!!!
I dine in river north most of the time so it was refreshing to have a great atmosphere with reasonable priced food in Lakeview
I ordered the Revolucion steak burger on a pretzel bun and that was cooked to perfection!!!
The margaritas were awesome but I wish they were bigger:(
I will be back for sure!
This place is right across from a parking garage so that makes it even better!!!
I was here opening night, October 24, 2012. This place advertised itself as a steakhouse, so I was not going to mess around with fish tacos or some other such nonsense.
I ordered their petite filet, medium, with mashed taters and salad in a tequila  dressing. Accompanying was warm bread served on a wood platter with garlic butter to self-spread as I wished. All for $25, this was worth every penny.
Some places offer a steak, and other places KNOW how to cook the steak any way you wish. Revolucion is the latter.
In addition I had the Revolucion margarita, which was stiff, and amazing. For anyone willing to come here and spend more than $23 as if they were at Rocks, you are in for a much better meal.
First off... Anyone who reviews a restaurant in their first week or even the first day should never post a bad review. A few kinks to workout? Ha. Of course the place is brand new! Why would you expect it to be perfect already?!
I stopped in here on my walk home from work and everything was fantastic. Tons of margarita options with great garnishes. I also enjoyed the shrimp tacos. I live two blocks from here and definitely will be back.
As for the people who reviewed the restaurant on their first night.... Get a life. Put yourself in someone else's shoes and have some respect for a great addition to the Lakeview neighborhood.
As a long-time neighborhood restaurant, I was very excited for Revolucion to open in the old Triangle camera shop, but after reading a few of these reviews, I was nervous about quality and service.
To be fair, it did just open on 10/24, and I went on 10/26, so I was prepared for a few bumps. And fortunately, my experience was positive.
Although Revoluction wasn't taking reservations yet, I stopped in earlier to put our name in and they said they would try to accommodate a table for 2 at 7:30pm (on a Friday). I was realistic that probably wouldn't happen.
But when I showed up at 7:45 (running late) they still had a table for us, despite there being a wait at the bar and up front. I was pretty impressed and very thankful.
Let's get to the food. Revolucion has a pretty lengthy wine/beer list and the beer list includes bottles and draft. They also have margaritas and hand crafted cocktails, but in looking around the space, most people went with beer or margaritas. The margaritas (at $8) were huge but a little messy because of the glass shape. That said, I would still try one.
The food menu is pretty lengthy too. I honed in on the tacos (4 for $14), which were a good mix of pork, chicken, steak, veggies and fish. The fish taco options were only Tilapia, calamari and shrimp, and of the three, the shrimp sounded the best. I stuck with the Pastor tacos, which were tasty but the homemade tortillas were a little soggy. That said, the entire dish was tasty. Only real complaint about the tacos, you can't buy individually or mix/match within the 4, not even 2 of one kind. Not major but wish you could customize this a bit more.
For guac, we were prepared to go with the traditional, but our waiter recommended the Guacamole Rustico, which has roasted tomatoes, jalapenos and onions. It was really, really good. Loved the smoky flavor and the extra kick of spice. I would absolutely order this again.
On service, our waiter was attentive, helpful and able to answer questions about the menu. Was very happy with the service.
I'm sure there will still be some growing pains but I definitely plan on coming back and trying more things on the menu. Welcome to the neighborhood!
Best meal, very generous portions, atmosphere is amazing, the wait staff is very accommodating from the moment you walk in until the time you leave. Fantastic job putting Revolucion together  Adrian, you have a winner here. Best steak I've had in over 10 years. The chipotle mashed potatoes are worth the trip on their own.  With such a large menu, you can bet we will be back many times. Our server Sarah was friendly, well knowledgeable and down to earth. The owners even helped my girl put her coat on.  Between Revolucion, Tutto Fresco, and El Mariachi, I see many evenings on Broadway in our future. Great Chicago steaks with a Mexican flare.  "VAMOS REVOLUCION!!!"
Review Source:I was very excited to see this place open ... ok, only their second day, so take this review as an advice to the management:
I sat at the bar.
#1. in a neighborhood restaurant like this, i find it very tacky to ask for my credit card in order to start a tab. Really? Do you think am leaving without paying?
#2. With the food they brought the bill. So, i gather the message is: You are not having any more drinks! .Well, i would like to have stayed for two or three more, but felt uninvited.
# 3 food: i had steak fajitas. nothing special. the menu has some super expensive stuff it made me wonder... Â
Bone In Ribeye (18oz) $34
New York Strip (16oz) $32
Filet Mignon (10oz) $32
Petite Filet Mignon (6oz) $25
ok i will give them another chance, otherwise will just have to go back to the noise and trashy food at Rock's across the street - at least it is welcoming.
We too.... tried to have dinner on the opening day(10/24). Â I ordered Talipia Tacos and my sister ordered the Ribeye Burger. After waiting 30 long minutes for it, the tortillas was cold and fish was burnt and dry. I sent it back. We cancelled out the burger because we still had to wait on it. Â The cucumber jalepeno cocktail was good..easy on the ice though. The staff was nice and the GM was hospitable. Â
This place has potential, just need to get the food down pack.
We had dinner at home instead.
It was their first night so they have kinks to deal with to make it a smooth operation. The space is inviting, lively and the bar is well stocked. The guacamole was bland and lacked enough chips, Â we asked for a tropical one which after being sent back returned sprinkled with diced pineapple...very Hawaiian!! The botanas (tapas) and side dishes are interesting, varied and tasty - good for a group of drinkers who wish to snack. They won't let you mix and match different tacos from the tacos section of the menu you have to get four of the same.. so four shrimp of beef tacos..not a smart management decision, customers want and will pay for choices. My partner got the Arrachera steak which was good, I got the tilapia baked in a corn husk and it was served wrapped in aluminum foil..very tacky presentation..please serve it on the husk it looks much better..the fish was dry and stuck to the husk. The house margaritas were bland and watery...please work on this ASAP, we like to drink in this neighborhood!! Â The service was outstanding, they all worked very hard and did everything possible to please us - Kudos to all.
I will give it a month and return to see and enjoy the improvements.
