Having worked in a Cuban restaurant myself I was a bit skeptical when my girlfriend told me we should get Cuban food for brunch. What could they have to offer? Cubanos? egg sandwiches with maduros? Or everything I ever wanted!!
It was the third restaurant we walked into on Southport today and the first that didn't have an hour wait, why there was no wait I don't know, everything was amazing! We were a bit hungry so we jumped the gun and ordered french toast right away. Wow! Tres Leches French toast with strawberries, whipped cream and syrup! We shared them and I almost fought my girlfriend for the last one. I was still quite hungry so I asked Braulio (our AMAZING server) what he thought of the steak and eggs. He described it in great detail but suggested what he thought was their best dish the huevos benedictos with crab meat. It was also $3 more and though I couldn't blame him I thought he was just trying to upsell me, I went along with it anyway. Again, WOW, I have had crab benedict before but it had been to fishy or rich and over-filling. This was absolutely perfect! Rather than an english muffin it came on Atrepas, a sweet corn cake made with honey and lemon. Every bite was amazing! My girlfriend got the Strata Grande, which was a bit too hearty for her but still a good dish. Braulio found out I was in the industry so we had plenty to talk about, he also told me that their Sangria pitchers (normally $20) are $6 on Tuesdays! Wednesday is also their 1/2 price wine night, we will definitely be back. Thank you Braulio!
The ambiance was also very at ease and relaxing.
This is suppose to be Cuban, right?
Their mojitos are delicious but other than that, there is really nothing interesting about this place.
My girlfriend and I had a Cuban sandwich (deli meat, mostly) for $15 and I had steak (3 small round pieces of meat) Â on a BRUSH not bed of potatoes for $22.
