Having worked in a Cuban restaurant myself I was a bit skeptical when my girlfriend told me we should get Cuban food for brunch. What could they have to offer? Cubanos? egg sandwiches with maduros? Or everything I ever wanted!!
It was the third restaurant we walked into on Southport today and the first that didn't have an hour wait, why there was no wait I don't know, everything was amazing! We were a bit hungry so we jumped the gun and ordered french toast right away. Wow! Tres Leches French toast with strawberries, whipped cream and syrup! We shared them and I almost fought my girlfriend for the last one. I was still quite hungry so I asked Braulio (our AMAZING server) what he thought of the steak and eggs. He described it in great detail but suggested what he thought was their best dish the huevos benedictos with crab meat. It was also $3 more and though I couldn't blame him I thought he was just trying to upsell me, I went along with it anyway. Again, WOW, I have had crab benedict before but it had been to fishy or rich and over-filling. This was absolutely perfect! Rather than an english muffin it came on Atrepas, a sweet corn cake made with honey and lemon. Every bite was amazing! My girlfriend got the Strata Grande, which was a bit too hearty for her but still a good dish. Braulio found out I was in the industry so we had plenty to talk about, he also told me that their Sangria pitchers (normally $20) are $6 on Tuesdays! Wednesday is also their 1/2 price wine night, we will definitely be back. Thank you Braulio!
The ambiance was also very at ease and relaxing.
This is suppose to be Cuban, right?
Their mojitos are delicious but other than that, there is really nothing interesting about this place.
My girlfriend and I had a Cuban sandwich (deli meat, mostly) for $15 and I had steak (3 small round pieces of meat) Â on a BRUSH not bed of potatoes for $22.
OVERPRICED
I had such a great evening at Coobah this past Saturday night. Â We had 7:30pm reservations and were promptly seated accordingly. Â The place was packed but the service never lacked. Â Food and drinks were spot on!
For starters we had the vegetarian Fundido...who doesn't like melted cheese with tortillas? Â It was gooey and delicious and was served with a trio of unique salsas. Â The Cherry salsa had a real bite to it and I loved it. Â We also shared a Romesco salad which was very good. Â
I had the vegetarian dumplings served with Quinoa for my entree and my friend had some sort of beef dish. Â Not sure but hers was served with this cheesy polenta that was to die for. Â We also ordered the side of plantains which were giant butterflied pieces of plantain prepared in a sweet sauce and also a side of the chilaquiles. Â What are those exactly? Â Tamales with a spicy tomato sauce? Â I am not exactly sure and I really don't care. Â They were just to die for. Â Needless to say for two people we had WAY too much food but that is ok. Â Doggy bags to go. Â I have dogs but they were NOT getting their paws on my leftovers!
For dessert we had the Churros with a maple carmel sauce. Â That sauce...seriously I could just drink it. Â Dunking the Churros in it, it tasted like french toast. Â SO GOOD!
Now for my favorite part. Â Anyone who knows me knows I like to have fun. Â And what a better way to have fun than to order and reorder and reorder MOJITOS!! Â My friend opted for the Raspberry variety but I stuck with the classic. Â We had a few at dinner and then more than a few more afterwards. Â Made for a very fun evening. Â Â So much so that I forgot my wallet at the restaurant! Â But the bartender noticed it and the restaurant promptly called to say they had it and that I could come for it when they reopen for brunch the next day. Â When I went in on Sunday morning for the wallet, I saw all that wonderful brunch food being served and noted to myself that I must make that my next brunch spot. Â
I will definitely be going back to Coobah. Â The service was phenomenal and so was the food.
My mom and I stopped in for a bite on Sunday around noon. The sign outside said they were serving brunch. We aren't huge breakfast fans, but we were hungry, and it was raining so in we went.
We ordered:
1) Strata Grande: HEARTY DISH WITH LAYERS OF FRESH EGGS, ROASTED POTATOES, CHIHUAHUA CHEESE, SPINACH, ROASTED TOMATO AND FRENCH BREAD, BAKED UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN SERVED WITH TOASTED FLATBREAD AND SMOKED TOMATO SAUCE; and
2) Kick Hash: SHREDDED CORNED BEEF BRAISED WITH SOY AND SUGARCANE VINEGAR, CRISP POTATO PANCAKE, PICKLED RED ONION AND TWO EGGS ANY WAY.
(Sorry, the caps are from their website.)
My mom really enjoyed her strata, particularly because it was "not too eggy." I likewise enjoyed my hash. The pickled onions were a nice compliment to the salty beef and potatoes. I wouldn't have minded more onions on the plate, to be honest.
The place was a bit dark for my liking, but all in all, a good meal! I'm interested in going back for dinner in the future.
First visit tonight on a whim. Â I had the Zarzuela which was very good and the portion size was perfect. Â My brother had the Cuban Sandwich with fried plantains which was too heavy for my taste. Â We also had some Mojito's - they were very tasty, though quite light on the Rum.
The best part was dessert - a Pina Colada Bread Pudding with Coconut ice cream - yummy is all I can say!
To round it out we had Cuban Coffee - it was strong and sweet as it should be - excellent.
The atmosphere was inviting and trendy with a nice crowd, but not too loud.
I can definitely recommend this place and won't mind coming back to try some other menu items.
Coobah is one of my favorite places in the whole world to eat. Sounds a bit over the top, but it is. They have delicious food whether go in for brunch for for dinner. The atmosphere is really cool, fast paced on a crowded night but not too loud, so you can still have a romantic dinner or a fun group dinner.
The menu changes seasonally (I think, maybe a little more often) and there are always something new to try. Â I am always surprised but pleased with a flavor combination I never have thought of.
This place is incredible! From the food to the drinks to the outstanding service we received. We walked in right after the brunch rush and Tommy was running a one man show. We sat at the bar, and he took complete care of us from muddling our specialty drinks to recommending some delicious small plates! A quick Sunday lunch turned into 3 hours of unexpected fun and deliciousness. Thanks so much for the great service Tommy!
Review Source:One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. We have always gone here for Brunch. This is the perfect place to go after a night out. The waiters are really nice and attentive, one in particular, just seemed like he was so happy to be there. Always has a smile on face and very friendly every time we visit.
I always get the breakfast burrito with chorizo. It is really big, but every bite is so good. My wife usually gets the crab benedict and has never been disappointed. The cuban coffee is also a must. All of their coffee drinks and other cocktails we have had have been incredible.
Went here last week and I'd have to say the place wasn't memorable. Food was good, cocktails were made well... but slightly overpriced. Not a place I'd return to given the selection of tapas-style restaurants in Chicago.
Chairs were uncomfortable. I'm not a small dude by any means, but I'd recommend getting a table with the couch/cushion if possible.
Before making a reservation here for New Year's Eve, I emailed to confirmed that they would be able to accommodate a gluten and dairy allergy. So I was surprised that our waitress seemed to have no idea what gluten or dairy even were! She kept suggesting that I could eat queso and was randomly mentioning soy. I asked her if she would ask the chef if any of the dishes could be prepared separately, leaving some ingredients out. She wasn't even willing to check for me, just told me no. I was very disappointed. All we had were some drinks - sangria and margaritas that were just ok.
Review Source:I am somewhat of a "breakfast burrito connoisseur" ... and this one was the best one i've ever had. Coffee too. I was really impressed by this place and I told my friend that he needs to realign his breakfast priority list and put this at the top. I'm not a yelp regular but needed to put this one on the grid.
Review Source:Recently went to Coobah for dinner with friends. Service and food was OK. The menu states that the food should be eaten tapas style but when we asked our waiter he said that was not true. We ignored him and ordered 4 small plates and 2 large plates for the 4 of us and it turned out just fine. This may be why he ignored us most of the meal... hmm.
I would like to go again for brunch some time because I have heard good things but am not in a rush to go back again for dinner, particularly with all the other good spots in the area!
Place was pretty distant. We just decided to try out a new place. We like filipino food so we wanted to try it out- there is no real filipino food, but more filipino influence.
Price- Appetizers were around $8 and entrees were around $20 so a little pricey
Quality- Jiberito was very good- jerk chicken on a plantain. The beef short rib was so tender and just came off the bone while the flourless chocolate cake was very decadent. I would highly recommend all 3 for anyone going there.
Quantity- Portions are medium sized I would say
Atmosphere) Dark and homey. There are mirrors along the wall so you can see when your food is coming
Staff- Very nice. I asked our waiter "So what is filipino?" and it was quite comical to see him BS his answer. Very nice though.
I thought it was good and I liked the dishes we outlined.
We went here last night for a group event. Â I had no idea how amazing this place was going to be. Â As another writer said, there is some free parking in the back, which is great in the city. Â We had a glass of the house Malbec, which was wonderful. Â The mojitos, especially the strawberry, are to die for. Â Since is was an event, we had a set menu, but everything blew us away. Â From the guac to the jibarito, we were amazed...one course after another and it got better and better. Â We had the short ribs on what was some type of polenta like base. Â It was unreal. Â Finally, great Cuban coffee. Â Who could ask for more? Â We'll be back, that I know!
Review Source:My boyfriend and I headed to Kuma's Corner to try their famous burgers. Â We arrived and it was a 2 hour wait, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Â We yelped places sort of nearby and came across Coobah.
Loved this little place! Â We started off with guacamole which wasn't anything special. Â We agreed mine is better. Â They had feijoada on the menu as a special, so I ordered a small bowl which was a perfect size. Â It was extremely delicious!!! Â The flavors were dancing on my tongue with delight. Â It was way better than what I had in Rio a few months ago & that's saying something. Â I would order this again in a heartbeat!
My boyfriend went with the jibarito which was quite different than the traditional Puerto Rican jibarito we've tried before. Â It was still tasty, but the plantain was carmelized so it was more sweet instead of salty. Â He really enjoyed the chicken on top too.
For dessert we tried the churros and the cheesecake. Â The churros were served with this really tasty maple rum dipping sauce. Â The cheese cake was good, but rich. Â
The atmosphere is nice. Â It's a smaller place, so tables are pretty close together, but we had a good time. Â By far the best part was the feijoada, but I'd be willing to go again & try something else :-)
Last night I strayed farther north than I normally go these days from Logan Square over to Lakeview to meet a couple of friends for dinner. One of them had an appointment in Lakeview so I suggested, why don't we go to Coobah?! Sometimes I make good decisions.
Arrived early after conveniently parking in their FREE parking lot behind the building & sat down at the bar to wait for my friends. The atmosphere is right up my alley - dark, cozy and the fixtures are beautiful. It has what I like to call "pretty lighting" in that it makes you pretty. It's soft but still enough light so you can read the menu -- just enough. I ordered a mojito w/ some (optional) fresh rasberries. They make a perfect mojito. I have ordered them throughout the city and theirs is among the best if not THE best. You can order it short or tall. I suggest.... Tall.
My friends arrived just as I finished my mojito. After being seated we ordered a plethora of shares/apps. They all were delicious - standouts for me were the mussels which came out in a beautiful broth with plenty of grilled crouton for dipping. Every mussel was open, plump and sweet and the broth was -- To. Die. Also from the sea, Â the scallops which were perfectly caramelized and served with lovely accompaniments - roasted butternut squash & such. I also HEART the spicy chipotle mashed potatoes & my friend raved about the fiery Jibarito (jerked chicken layered between caramelized plantains and served with red onion-orange escabeche). Made me wish that I ate meat for a second.... I would order everything that I had again. It was deelish.
Wednesdays they offer half priced bottles of wine so we had a lovely Malbec with dinner - which I loved. I wish I could remember what it was called because I would definitely pick some up.
Service was TOP notch from the host to the bartender to the server. Loved. It.
I recommend you put Coobah on your "to do" list.
The. End.
Hot. Spicy. Lil Gem.
Before I moved to Chicago in 2009, I was visiting a friend who insisted we hit Coobah for their delicious drinks. It was easy to fall in love and feel comfortable in this spot, surrounded by warm hues, rustic flair, and adorable jelly fish. And yes: the drinks lived up to their hype.
Having officially made Chicago my home, Coobah is still one of my favorites. The food is delicious. They have half-priced bottles of wine on Wednesdays, and live music on various nights.
What I currently love the most about Coobah: Braulio! Braulio is the magnanimous server/bar tender with a contagious smile and great sense of humor. My guest and I really enjoyed sitting at the bar last night, and Braulio made that experience fantastic. We hope to see more of his bar tending skills. Gracias!
I went here on a date with my husband recently. Â Initial thoughts - cool, unique decor that was reminiscent of a lazy bar somewhere in the Philippines, and an exciting menu of Spanish and Asian fusion. Â A great first impression. Â
I got the Pork Bicol (pork tenderloin with pineapple-bacon chutney? Â yes please) while my husband got Zarzuela, a seafood dish. Â Both dishes were well made and enjoyable, but we both walked away feeling that the dishes fell a bit short of our expectations. Â Couldn't really put a finger on it, except a general feel that there were other fusion places we would go back to first before returning here.
If you're looking for a new place to check out in the neighborhood, it's worth checking out, as the overall ambiance and menu is pretty unique.
Before I get into my fantastic experience at Coobah, I'll mention my reasoning for the deduction of one star. 1) Service. Our waiter was the host and seemingly the waiter for every table in the restaurant. This made it hard to get a hold of him at times...like when our party of 6 was yearning more of the awesome sangria. 2) Portion size of large plates. For $20+, I felt they were kind of small, more like "medium" plates.
Those are literally my only two complaints, I had a phenomenal time at Coobah. The interior of the restaurant feels extremely cozy and it wasn't packed when we arrived at 7:00 on a Tuesday, which was nice. On Tuesday, they have a special of $6 sangria pitchers which you really can't beat! The sangria itself was flavorful and not too sweet.
To start, we ordered five small plates...seared scallops were delicious. Definitely be warned this comes with three not so large scallops which wasn't the easiest to share with 6 people. We also had the mussels, jibarito, fundido, and lettuce cups. All were worth ordering again except for the lettuce cups, kind of had an Asian feel. The jibarito was a serious crowd pleaser with flavorful shredded chicken and plantains. Really delicious. Almost everything we ordered had some sort of spicy-ness which I loved, but plain eaters should be aware. I then shared the pork bicol with Amy F. which we really enjoyed. The coconut arancini were delectable and the pineapple/bacon chutney added great flavors to the dish. As I mentioned before, it was a smaller portion than I anticipated, I think in the future I'll stick with small plates.
Since we were there to celebrate Halley W.'s birthday, our server brought out churros with a candle. These were warm and soft, I'd absolutely recommend these. Can't wait to go back to Coobah and try some more of their dishes!
Fresh. Delicious. Romantic. Great service.
I've been here a couple of times and loved it both times. You can order anything on the menu as tapas style, which might really be the way to go, especially if you're not particularly hungry.
You can peel the short ribs apart with your fork. The mussels were on special and fantastic! Probably my favorite part of the meal. The scallops and plantains were delicious, as well. Sauce was slightly spicy and I loved the little bruchetta bread that came with them.
Perhaps my favorite part about this restaurant is that there is a note on the back of the menu thanking patrons for their business there, as well as all other small, local businesses. Something about small restaurants that really gets me going, and the recognition of their customers, even in such a small way, speaks volumes to me.
Go here!!!
No more empanadas?! I think my world just ended when the waitress confirmed this. I love empanadas and I was looking forward to having some at Coobah that other reviewers raved about. Sigh okay now what do I get? Oh chihuahua cheese and chorizo? I'm sold! A glass of sangria (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/coobah-chicago?select=rDPAF2xWQQqkSuEFQHizOw#GKaGj9oaVQI-hSv-ZvIYYw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) for me and a palma louca beer for the boyfriend.
The fundio (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/coobah-chicago?select=rDPAF2xWQQqkSuEFQHizOw#qTYElqXXPgSYj2IM4_EiVQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>): charred house-made pork chorizo and Chihuahua cheese served with warm flour tortillas was just okay. It's definitely skimpy in size and cheese, they could serve a bigger portion. I didn't even have enough for all of the tortillas served with it.
I went with the pork bicol (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/coobah-chicago?select=rDPAF2xWQQqkSuEFQHizOw#9X5974L4u2k7aA7Dn_niOQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>): seared pork tenderloin and crispy pork belly with coconut arancini, pineapple-bacon chutney, wilted arugula  and adobo glaze served with banana hush puppies was pretty decent. The pork tenderloin was moist and well seasoned, but the crispy pork belly was extremely dry, which I'm disappointed about because pork belly has to be one of my favorite food, luckily their was some glazed. Pineapple-bacon chutney with witted arugula was quite delicious and tasty and the banana hush puppies was pretty good, I would of liked more sweetness to them.
My boyfriend got the hanger steak (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/coobah-chicago?select=rDPAF2xWQQqkSuEFQHizOw#4wvy-Lm-3R4Bmayo2-zmFg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>): grilled hanger steak with chipotle mashed potatoes, served with pickled red onions, a cider-soy gastrique and a chipotle crema, which upon receiving his first comment was where's the meat? The portions here are indeed small, no wonder the couple next to us both had their own starters and entree. He thought the hanger steak was cooked perfectly, but lacks seasoning and his food was served cool versus being warm/hot.
The service: when we had place our order the waitress didn't bother to write down anything and she had asked me something again and all I heard was "sangria" so I said okay. She than brought out a pitcher of it and I said oh no, did you say pitcher? I meant a glass. She rolled her eyes at me and became very prissy than made an arm gesture that it was fine we can keep it. Okay everything is cool right? Well, in the middle of our dinner service she grabs the pitcher of sangria and takes it away without any explanation! Okay, I thought you said it was fine? Oh she also forgot the palma louca beer until we reminded her.
Upon receiving our bill she charged us for both glasses of sangria, which I was frustrated about because I would of told her to take back the second glass if she didn't gesture to us that it everything was fine, when we paid and got our change she told us she removed one of the sangria, which okay fine I'll take that.
Overall, the food was meh, I've experience better and the waitress' attitude needs to be checked. I don't need you rolling your eyes at me and really taking away something after you already gave the guests an "everything is fine" gesture? Not cool in my books.
This place is really nice, but I probably won't be coming back because they do miss out on a lot of Latin American dishes.
The atmosphere is really great, I'm a fan! Elegant and hipster at the same time, neat combination, and it is a bit loud but can still be romantic. The patio seating is definitely lovely.
The service is good too, except for their policy of waiting for your whole party to arrive before being seated. We had a party of eleven but a few people cancelled last minute so we had to wait a while before getting our table. Our servers were very diligent though, and answered all our questions in regards to the food and even their drinks. Their drinks are something you don't want to miss, very classy, strong yet easy on the liver. We had a few of their specials, La Paloma being one of them, and their pitcher of Sangria was fresh and sweet...very good!
The food is what didn't catch my eye. Definitely got disappointed over their selection -not much of Latin America there- and I settled for a sort of Spanish dish, with shrimp and chorizo. My friends had their veggie looking empanadas, they were good portions. And a couple others ordered their pork, which came in a sort of sandwich style but was very good. I was honestly expecting more ceviche, pabellon, real meals as opposed to their disguised appetizers as meals.
We ordered their churros for dessert, and they had way too much cinnamon...they wouldn't have been considered good in South America that's for sure. I know because I'm from Venezuela.
Anyways, if you want great service and a good time without really tasting the Latin American cuisine then this place is for you, but if you are coming for your palate then I recommend you go somewhere else.
Coobah is fantastic! Â The food here blows my mind (and mouth!) each time I come. Â The seared scallops are a must as well as the Jibarito. Â I had always been skeptical of this place just because I tend to stay away from Mexican/spicy foods. Â Lets just say this place far exceed my exceptions and changed the way I think of Latin American food! Â
Also, the staff here has to be the most gracious and sweetest people ever. Â Whenever I have been, (which is starting to be more often!) they are always so friendly and accommodating. Â If you have not been, get over there and be amazed!
LOVE this place and cannot wait to return. I came here with a Bloomspot deal and was simply blown away by the service, the food and the drinks.
First, let's start by saying that you need to come here on a Tuesday night. Pitchers of sangria are only $6! We thought it was a joke when our server told us about the promo...it might as well be free. Doesn't hurt that the sangria is downright amazing. Pitchers are normally a reasonable $18--so get the sangria regardless of what night you are here.
Our waitress was super trippy looking but extremely helpful and attentive. Her food recs were spot on, and she helped us get seated in the outdoor patio. (The only downside to this place is that it can get somewhat hot inside--they don't have the most up-to-date ventilation system.) On to the food:
Jibarito: marinated chicken/plantains....MUST GET. We ordered one. And then another. Dripping with flavor.
Fundido: chorizo and cheese dip--another can't miss dish. It's oily, but it's worth it.
Scallops: wish it were a bigger portion, but very delicious.
Guacamole: very solid. Can't complain at all for $6.
Grilled Pork Lettuce Cups: the pork was tasty, but the dish as a whole was skippable. A little small on the portion size.
Chicken empanadas: delicious. The empanadas vary each day.
Didn't even get to the entrees since we couldn't stop drooling over the jibarito and chugging sangria. Will definitely be back, and can't wait to try brunch here! Awesome place in a cool location, and the prices would be reasonable even if there were no promos going on.
I freaking LOVE this place!!!! Â I have never had a bad meal at Coobah and have a feeling I never will. Â Between my boyfriend and I we have sampled at least half of the menu with each visit getting harder and harder to choose what to eat! Â Some of the highlights for us have been the Jibarito and Fundido for appetizers and the Short Ribs (my boyfriends favorite meal from any restaurant) and Zarzuela for entrees.
Braullio (I am not sure if I spelled that correctly) is the BEST! Â I love coming in on Fridays when he is working the floor. Â He is so friendly and really makes the experience extra special. Â Bravo on such a spectacular employee!
The food at Coobah is definitely a warm welcome from the surrounding options. Not your typical burgers and fries but instead interesting and unique dishes that vary from Latin to Asian. I had the vegetable pan seared dumplings which were very tasty. I also sampled the calamari, scallops, and jerk chicken salad (which were all great).
The atmosphere didn't match the food, but it was still nice (at least the patio seating). Inside sounded a little noisy though. Service was efficient and friendly. Would definitely come back again!
Atmosphere: 7/10
Service: 7.5/10
Food: 8/10
I tried to be adventurous and go for the Latin fusion cusine. However at the end of the day, Â I don't think that the Cuban, Spanish, Brazilian and Philipino fusion really worked for me.
I tried the Kick hash at Coobah, which consisted of shredded corn beef, potato pancake and pickled red onion topped with two over-easy eggs.
What I would like to improve about this menu item is to is to make the potato pancake crisp  because mine was very soggy and  lay there on the bottom  of the plate under all that salty corn beef. The corn beef -I never really seen such a red color of beef before, I don't know maybe it was dyed maybe that is how to looks like in Cuba or Philipines. It was just out of the ordinary. In addition one of my over-easy eggs was cooked too long and was no longer over-easy.
On the plus side the drinks were good. The Bloody Mary was delicious I would not change one thing about it. Â On the other hand, the Palamino was weak and a little watered down.
So I am really torn about Coobah, I definitely enjoyed the patio sitting and the bathroom was pretty cool. I loved the Virgin Mary touch on the ladies door. The service was good too, quick and right to the point. The drinks were good, but the food left something to be desired.
I loved Coobah - the ambience is great - I felt like I was on vacation sitting there with my mojito.
I ordered the vegetarian dumplings stuffed with mushrooms and they were SO.GOOD. Â I'm fairly certain I was close to licking the plate - but I didn't. Â The presentation was beautiful, the taste was wonderful. Â I would highly recommend.
As an appetizer we had the empanadas, one black bean, and one chicken, and again - they were SO GOOD! Â It wasn't doughy - I think it's made with cornmeal possibly.
I also of course enjoyed the mojitos...mmmmm
Only drawback to Coobah, is the size. Â The restaurant is pretty small and it can be a tight squeeze - even for two but I highly suggest giving it a try. I'll definitely be back!
I have to say first that this is place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ! I have been here twice already and the food is simply astonishing !! Every entre is different and the appetizers are super good ! They have excellent Sangria and Mohitos are very good.
Jibarito for appetizer is a MUST to order, its defintely my favorite plate here. Layered Jerked chicken that is unreal !
The ribs and the pork entreee are best ones in my opinion. The meat is so tender and has a light spice to it that just makes it perfect taste ! I must warn though, all the dishes are slightly hot...nothing that burns the mouth just added flavor.
They have very good desert... a chocolate cake with different flavor ice cream on top. Excellent touch.
I personally LOVE this place and definitely recommend.
Yet, another gals' night out with two of my gal pals! Â
I have been here a few times and find myself drooling when I think of past visits. Â This time, my gal pals and I decided to share all food items. Â We started with the edamame and mussels. Â Both were super tasty and had a slight zing. Â Moving onto the fish special and chicken dish....may I have some more, please! Â We all found ourselves using our fingers to finish of the sauces. Â New meaning to: Â licking our plates clean!
The waitress was attentive, but new when to give us our space, so we could engage in "girl chat". Â As for her wine recommendations?!? Â She was spot on! Â My malbec was jammy and offered just a hint of spice to pair with the food.
As the night went on, there was some live music, which added to the Latin flavor. Â We found ourselves sitting there three hours later and had to peel ourselves away, so we would not be there for another three hours!
Love this Southport place!
I've been dying to try Coobah for a good six years. Â Thanks to Yelp deals I finally had the opportunity. Â I was not disappointed. Â
It was packed on a Saturday night. Â Our host was so pleasant. Â He didn't seemed flustered with it being a packed house. Â Our server was also very cordial and downright happy. Â For an appetizer we ordered their house made guacamole and the jerk chicken salad. Â The jerk chicken was quite spicy. Â The guacamole good, had big chunks of avocado, and was healthy portion size. Â
For dinner I ordered their beef short ribs. Â They had a great adobo flavor, were very tender, and again, the portion size was generous. Â It came with celery root mash which was the perfect accompaniment. Â There was a little pool of clarified butter that just put the dish over the top. Â
For desert, we ordered the dulce de leche cheesecake. Â It was dense and it really wasn't all that memorable. Â So, I'd save the calories for a glass of port or a different desert. Â
Also, if you read their menu carefully, they indicate they have a free parking lot out back.
