The best thin crust pizza in the area - no contest. Â Yes it's slightly more expensive than other places in town but worth it. Â The sausage is superior and definitely tastes like Chicago sausage.
I don't care for it quite as much delivered or take out since the crust stays crisper if you dine in.
I was driving back with the wife and kids after spending a weekend with my brother in Aurora IL. I googled Deep Dish pizza in Bloomington/Normal and this looked to be the best option. I attended ISU from 1997-2002 so while I know the area well, I know that the only good deep dish place of my era, Za'Za's has been closed.
So I called from exit 180 on HWY 55 and pre-ordered a 16 inch Chicago Style deep dish Sausage and Pepperoni. The good news is that it is right off the highway...so I was pretty excited that if this maneuver went well, I could do this option a ton in the future.
Unfortunately I think this will be the last time I do Rosati's. It was ok, but nothing at all to get excited about. Were they rationing the sausage? Is it that expensive? Same thing with the cheese.
The sauce was plentiful and pretty good, and i like the fresh spices on top.
End of the day, it was good, I just have a pretty high standard when it comes to deep dish pizza. maybe their specialty pizza's or other menu items are better, because the place was packed and the staff was very friendly.
So, I've never eaten their pizza, it's true. Â I definitely will, given the fact that I've been seeking out more and more Chicago style food as time goes by here in Central Illinois.
But, I have had their burger and tasted their meatball sandwich. Â One day, while begrudgingly enjoying a Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy (so, that must have been New Years day... and it should still be SciFi, not SyFy, but that's another story) my girlfriend and I wanted food, but without leaving the apartment and without ordering from the normal 4 places near Uptown. Â So, we hit this place up.
The burger was actually one of the best burgers I've had since moving down here. Â The meat was superbly cooked, juicy and had tons of flavor. Â It didn't soak the bun and the bun wasn't soaked with mayo. Â The tomato and lettuce popped and worked well. Â The only thing that was "too" much was the cheese, and that was simply because it was amazingly melty and delicious, but made a bit of a mess.
I can recommend them for the burgers, but not the pizza, yet. Â But soon, I'm sure I'll be able to recommend their pizza with an enthusiastic "I miss Chicago and this fills the slot."
Finally ate at this new location and like the other location it's the best pizza in B-N!! The thin crust is a perfect thickness and the sauce is delicious! I've eaten Rosati's at a couple of Chicago area locations and this location is just as good. Â I like Tobin's but Rosati's blows them away.
