I kind of love this place. Â It all started with The Patio, some gouda fries, and a couple of martini's and I was hooked. Â The Patio during the summer months is quite delightful- sitting under a big umbrella and listening to the falls is a great way to spend an afternoon in Beacon. Â The snacks on the patio are quite good and after tasting most of the items on The Patio menu after several visits my favorites were the shrimp cakes, shoestring fries, and the pulled pork sandwich. Â
It has been interesting to watch the main building come together- I love how the work of local artists was included in the design. Â I personally think the interior is quite beautiful. Â I love the lounge, 2EM because the bartenders are always very friendly and the drinks are delicious!
This past evening we tried SWIFT for the first time.  Overall, it was a really nice experience- starting with an amuse bouche of lightly seared snapper on top of a pepper compote- compliments of the chef!  We had a bacon and lentil appetizer and the Short Rib and Risotto for our main courses.  The bacon and lentil dish seemed to be the least successful because we felt it needed more texture.  The main dishes were cooked perfectly and were delicious! The almond ice  cream mixed with chai ice cream for a dessert was a nice finish. Â
There are some signs that this is a new business and servers are still adjusting but overall everything was great! Â We look forward to many drinks on the patio when the warm weather arrives.
Valentine's Day, the restaurant was 3/4 empty, we were seated in the chilly entrance area and told by the overwhelmed maitre'd, that she could not seat us elsewhere.  After 5 minutes we insisted and were moved. Our server said "That's what happens when you reserve on Open Table." The restaurant never filled up.  The food was terribly disappointing! The pheasant was tasteless as was the grouper, served on a bed of under-cooked kidney beans. The menu did not state prices, nor that our only option was the prix fixe dinner @ $85, nor did our server ever explain it. The owners need to understand that you have to earn superior ratings by preparing superior food and providing excellent service.  Restoration & modifications to the  mill, terrific.
Review Source:We went for a NYE dinner last month and I was very impressed. This is the finest act in Beacon for fine dining. It's in a class all it's own. We had a fixed menu for NYE, but everything was wonderfully prepared and presented and it all tasted fantastic. I had a wagyu beef, crab salad, scallops, and a black forest cake. I did not go home feeling stuffed but satisfied. The wait staff was prompt, attentive, cheerful and friendly. This is not a cheap place and it shouldn't be, either. Â I have been to the patio in the warmer months and I remember a delicious selection of finger-foods and appetizers. My friends enjoyed great beers and cocktails in a wonderful atmosphere overlooking the falls. I am thrilled we have a place like this in Beacon and I can't wait to go again.
Review Source:Terrible. Went for a family dinner. Â The only good thing was the nice waitstaff. First they didn't have enough menus. How is that possible? The place was empty. Then we order. We each order an app and then 90 minutes later we get our entree, literally 2 hours after we initially sat down. Furthermore, 2 entrees had to be sent back. I have weird food sensitivities and definitely had reactions to is food. Such poor quality. Bad presentation. Do not recommend going here.
Review Source:I've been here twice now and am rather disappointed to be giving it such a poor review. Â The one star is for the view, decor, and development itself. Â The drinks are also not bad. Â However, the food is not good. Â While the chef seems to have some interesting ideas, the execution is just not there. Â The first time I went here, my guest ordered a grilled lettuce salad- a take on the classic iceberg wedge. Â It was terrible. Â We also had a compressed watermelon appetizer, which was also terrible. Â Today, we tried the brunch and, while not terrible, it was not enjoyable (aside from my company). Â The wait staff is very nice, but not experienced and in need of some training. Â Additionally, the frisee salad I ordered lacked one component and had to go back to the kitchen. Â And, it was swimming in vinegar. Â All that said, the pastries and coffee redeemed the meal slightly. Â I'll go back again to give it a third chance because I very much want this place to be a success and boost to Beacon, but it has a long way to go.
Review Source:Had a great experience and great food at Swift. Â Looking forward to trying out the Patio. Â Having my wedding reception here next summer, so I was very anxious to get a taste of the food at Swift, and all in my party were delightfully surprised. Â They are still working out some kinks with service, but overall we enjoyed the experience and plan to come back!
Review Source:I had a wonderful time out at the roundhouse with my husdand and
My  mother. Reading the other reviews I feel people are very harsh to judge a brand new restaurant- sometimes the most clueless people pretend to all of a sudden be food critics. Anyway my personal experience was great I had the duck and it was delicious - my mom a pork dish which was cooked deliciously and my husband a flat iron steak which was melt in your mouth amazing. (I know because we all tasted each others dishes )  it is true the portions sizes are not huge and timing could be a little quicker between courses, but as a dining experience i would definitely give it 5 stars.  Food was amazing , service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance was nothing you could find in beacon or anywhere in the area for that.  A friend of mine which was a little more judgemental on this new restaurant said they are trying to be too much like NYC in beacon. It's funny cause you will travel all the way to NYC pay way higher prices and get a similar meal as one i experienced at the roundhouse, yet someone brought such a great place right here in beacon. I wish them all the luck- and don't let bad reviews scare you - try them yourself! Make your own opinion.
If I could give this place a half of star I would, and the half a star would be for the view of the waterfall. Old brick building transformed into a chic (kinda) restaurant. Indoor and patio dining. It was a beautiful night out we thought we would start with apps on the patio and than move indoors for dinner. The patio menu is well..odd. Nothing grabbed any of us at all. We ordered a few apps, braised short rib taco, domestic shrimp something or other and fries with smoked gouda and lemon.
The short rib meat on the taco was obviously prepared well in advance I would venture to say days in advance, yuck. The taco shell itself is taken out of the box and put under the rancid meat. The domestic shrimp were so domestic I believe they came from Jersey because they smelled like low tide at the beach. The french fries were a home run for this place. They should just serve french fries and call it a day. The service on the patio was o..k..she was sweet but clueless, she came back to ask what the 3 apps were again that we ordered. Here's a tip WRITE IT DOWN!
We asked to see the indoor menu, once again nothing looked to appealing. Needless to say, we opted not to dine here for dinner.
While sitting on the patio I couldn't help but notice
Graffiti was on the side of the building? Are they trying to make a statement, heres what I got out of it..you need soap and water! Never I mean Never again awful.
Love it. can't wait to go back.
Food was excellent and the waitstaff was GREAT.
Hostess was helpful.
Had the chickpea appetizer which was so yummy we asked for the recipe.
Red fish entree had great taste, lots of flavor.
My dessert of apricots and choclate seemed small but turned out to be just the right amount. Many different textures and flavors.
Our waitress was attentive with out being overbearing. She answered all of our questions nicely.
View was beautiful. Get an early reservation so you can sit by the window.
If you're looking for a review of the food at this place, this isn't it. I'd love to be able to give you a review of the food, but I can't. I wanted to eat, but I didn't
My wife and I went out for a night in Beacon and wanted to start out with a couple drinks and a small bite before moving on to another place. When we first arrived, we walked in and down the stairs into a large room with high ceilings. . .. and NO people. None. No staff. No diners. No one to greet us. Nobody. We started to walk through the room, but then heard some voices from down a hall, so we went to check it out and came across a few people drinking in another room who a all stopped and awkwardly looked at us when we poked out heads in. So, we backed out and continued to explore. We worked our way through the length of the main room to find a bartender (?) folding silverware into napkins near a door to the patio. "Should we just head outside?" we asked? She just nodded. So, out we went and realized we were now on the "back" side of the patio with the hostess stand on the other side of the bar. I headed over and told the hostess we were just here for some drinks and a quick bite and should we just grab a table near the bar? Her response: "Sure." Â So, we found an open table and sat down. And sat. And sat. And sat some more. Finally, I just went to the bar and got my own drinks - $21 for two Sapphire & Tonics - and sat down again. And sat. And sat. And at no point did any one acknowledge that we were even there. There was even a guy who seemed like a manager or owner or something standing over by the patio entrance having a great time joking and flirting with the hostess. Every so often he'd disappear behind the bar, then pop back out and head back over to his post by the hostess.
While all of this sitting was going on, we were taking a look around the patio - it has two tiers and is in a really nice location, surrounded by beautiful brick building, the creek and falls and a wall. But as we were looking around, we noticed something odd. No one was eating. We could smell food being cooked. But no one at any table had any food. Moreover, none of the tables were even set up for anyone to eat. No silverware. No salt & pepper. No candles. No background music of any kind. Nothing. Maybe that was it. Maybe they weren't serving food? But we could *smell* food. Then a woman walked buy with a tray full of salt and pepper shakers. Where did they come from? Where were they going? There were what seemed like waitresses or servers or food runners or something standing along one wall. . . but doing absolutely nothing. It got to the point that I became suspicious that the entire place was a set up of some sort. It might have been anyone of a number of things. . .A front for an undercover FBI operation. . . a Mafia hang out. .. A movie set? Â Anything but a restaurant.
The final straw was when flirty manager guy put his arm around the hostess and they walked right by us, down the steps and to the table farthest in the back of the patio, over by the creek. Presumably the best table in the house. He had a seat and she motioned to the staff standing against the wall. They sprung into action, bustling around, setting plates for him, silverware, pouring water. So maybe that's the trick? You have to work here to eat here?
At that point we got up to leave. The hostess was back by the stairs up to the street and happily wished us a great night. As we headed up the stairs, we could see behind the bar where a complete outdoor kitchen was in full swing. There was meat on the grill, something being sauteed in pans, someone leaning over a plate to garnish it to perfection. My wife and I just looked at each other with complete confusion. Where was all that food going? This must have been the kitchen for another restaurant. . . the food certainly wasn't coming out to this one.
I get that maybe I should have said something to someone, called someone over, asked, etc. For one thing, it had gone on so long at that point, I wasn't sure I could do it without coming across as a complete jerk. But, more importantly, I'm of the feeling that if you're going to be the kind of place that goes through this much trouble to set up this kind of atmosphere and is paying for this kind of location and has the nuggets to charge more than $10.50 for a drink, I shouldn't have to do your job for you. They seemed to be more than adequately staffed, including someone there who seemed pretty important. They're all there getting paid to do that job, not me.
I wish I could give you a review of this restaurant. . .but I'm not entirely sure it is one. To the other posters' points, maybe if I was hungry, I should have gone to Applebees. Or TGI Fridays. Or virtually any other restaurant in the area that actually serves food.
First of all, the views here are spectacular! The group that decided to sweep up this gem of a spot definitely knew what they were doing! If you're ever in the mood for refreshing cocktails, light summery food and picturesque scenery then you should definitely come here!
As far as the actual dining experience, the staff was really friendly, and it was especially nice to be able to chose our table. (We got as close to the waterfall as possible!). Our server was energetic and knowledgeable and very attentive. I ordered a John Daly, which I was told was one of the most popular drinks and I could tell why. It tasted like an icetea/lemonade and was super refreshing on a hot day. My guest had a draft beer (Victory something?) which was also quite delicious.
We ordered a special sandwich off their brunch menu (which I believe is only served Sundays) that was made with a filet of beef, egg, brie, onions and a spicy Dijon sauce. Yum! We also split their burger, and I have to say it was one of the best burgers I'd ever had! Both came with their special shoestring fries and we asked for their special Gouda cheese sauce on them. To end our meal we had a bowl of strawberries that were topped with this yogurt/whipped cream topping and granola. Perfect ending to an incredible, relaxing meal!
Only thing is we wish they would stay open later on Sundays, they close around 4pm and it would be nice to come back for a quiet evening with some drinks and enjoy the end of the weekend. However, regardless, we would both be back in a heartbeat, luckily we both live close so that will be in the near future!
I am so happy to have this place in Beacon! I went on a Saturday afternoon with my husband and we both tried the burgers, which were ahhhhmazing. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much, we went back the following day with a few friends who were in town. We were happy to find that there were quite a few items on the menu that our vegetarian friend could eat, in addition to the meat-based dishes the rest of us ordered. I tried the Bahn Mi, which was ridiculously good, and we didn't feel at all rushed by the staff, despite the steady stream of customers coming in. The only problem with the space is that, in order to be heard over the sound of the waterfalls, the conversations of some of the patrons can get pretty loud.
Review Source:Three of us had a great lunch there today. Great local beer on tap (Capt. Lawrence Kølsch), the duck tacos were appropriately priced and tasty, and then the mains came. Wife and sister both had the Banh Mi sandwich, which was terrific. Instead of two meats, it was pork terrine that had been well-seared--almost crisped. Delicious. And the fries were very good,,,hot and tasty.
I had a very pleasant surprise with my main course. Having taken a little chance by ordering Tuna Ceviche, the gamble paid off. It was 3/4" cubes of beautiful raw tuna with orange segments, pistachios, cilantro, micro greens fresh orange juice and a little coconut milk. Just delicious and, although served in a small bowl, a nice portion (especially when accompanied by fries purloined from my mate's plate).
Service was quite good--pleasant and efficient enough for a new place. Their indoor, main kitchen isn't even open yet; they're cooking everything in the outdoor auxiliary kitchen. Pretty darned good considering the conditions.
We'll definitely be back once they're in full swing. The interior is beautiful (David Rockwell, architect), with reclaimed materials and many elements from local artisans (tables, lighting fixtures). The indoor bar/lounge is beautiful, and the menu looks great. Looking forward to our next visit, and saving the fifth star until then.
I would give another 1/2 a star for the view of the waterfall from the patio, which is the best thing about the Roundhouse. This place is great for a beer and some french fries--and lovely on a summer afternoon. But the food is mediocre and really overpriced considering the quality. They just reopened after a haitus, revamped their menu etc.--and I had hoped they had worked some of the kinks out, but sadly, they still didn't get it right. It would be nice to see more local produce, bread, cheese etc. on the menu--they are charging artisanal prices but the food just isn't that tasty. But I would say, if you lower your expectations, stick with beer (I have only had one cocktail but it was pricey and so-so, and my friend's cocktail was filled with melted ice but she didn't have the heart to send it back because our waitress was so nice), and enjoy the view--then it can be a nice experience. I'll go back, but won't order anything off the menu again.
Review Source:I've visited twice and both were great experiences. Â On the first visit the gracious host seated us immediately. Â I had an expertly crafted Sazerac and was able to sample the shoestring fries with gouda, duck taco and the shrimp snack. Â All hit the mark. Â We went back the following morning for brunch and had the salmon omelette and the beets. Â The omelette was perfect and the beets were the perfect earthy complement. Â We can't wait to go back!
Review Source:I believe they still have their sea legs and have a lot of growing and learning to do, but I also believe that they are functioning incredibly well for a restaurant that launched mere months ago, and one that has limited resources and work space. Given their limitations, they seem to be putting forth sincere efforts to please their customers, serve tasty food and drinks, and provide a gorgeous backdrop and outdoor atmosphere.
The food is pricey, but understandably so. They use fresh, high-quality, (and often local) ingredients, which I am personally delighted to shell out a few extra dollars for. I agree that it would be nice if portion sizes were a little larger, especially because the food is so delicious! I needed to order a sandwich and two sides in order to feel sated (not stuffed), which took a bite out of my wallet, but the benefit was that I had an excuse to try multiple dishes. And let me tell you, the corn and goat cheese salad is OUTSTANDING. The burger, chicken sandwich, bahn mi, mac and cheese, and french fries are all equally delicious. And thumbs up to them for partnering with Beacon's beloved Zora Dora ice cream/paleta shop for dessert offerings.
If you are feeling fancy, order one of their special, season cocktails. Otherwise, they have a large selection of other mixed drinks, as well as beer and wine (the rosé I had one night was divine, though I don't recall the name of it).
I must be honest and say that I was disheartened to learn from their employees that they do NOT recycle or compost their disposable cups and plates. It's my understanding, after speaking with them, that they will be using china once the interior restaurant and lounge are up and running. But to promote use of "green" dishware and then not follow through with responsible disposal of these items seems deceptive and completely against the purpose. However small or large of an issue that is to others, it's my one main gripe with the Roundhouse.
There are many Beaconites and other locals employed by the Roundhouse at this time, and many more to come as the other facilities open and things get under full swing. It is also drawing more business to Main St., particularly to the east end. This is incredibly (and directly) beneficial to the community, and for that I can say we Beaconites are collectively grateful.
I'm eagerly awaiting the opening of their full-service restaurant and lounge, and look forward to what changes they have in store. Keep up the progress, Roundhouse!
So...I really want to love this place. The fries are excellent. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the scenery is great. I don't mind the small portions--I'd rather have smaller quantity and higher quality. And, since I'm small, I don't eat a lot. One issue is that they say they have veggie options, and will accommodate veggies. They have a few side dishes and salads that are veggie-friendly, but no main entrees or appetizers. This is okay for me, but my husband is vegetarian. Also, they had promised when we contacted them that they would alter an entree to make it vegetarian, and then they wouldn't when they got there. So....they have some kinks to work out, but I really want to like them.
Review Source:I'm a regular visitor to Beacon, and I'm so excited about the Roundhouse. We dined on the patio right after they opened, and the experience was incredible - falling water, blue sky, sparkling beverages, sensational food, good service. Best atmosphere in Beacon right now.
We decided to order several plates and share them around the table. The portions were appropriate without being too much. For a restaurant to care about being green - using more expensive recycled disposable plates and utensils when they could skimp, for instance - that restaurant also has to care about sizing portions so that numerous boxes aren't carted off to be thrown away every day. Good on them for trying to get it right in thinking through every detail.
Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the french fries and lobster mac and cheese. Our drinks were tasty without being overpowering or pretentious. Finishing things off with a Zora Dora popsicle was perfection. I can't wait to see how things are progressing the next time I visit!
This is a brand new restaurant that has been the subject of much ballyhoo, and fanfare in the area. Â It is part of a highly-publicized renovation project of historic local buildings in various states of dilapidation. Â The restaurant portion of the project is housed in a brick, mill building that dates back to the 1800's. Â This project has appeared rushed from the initial announcement of the renovation plans, right up to today when they are serving food out of literally half of a finished building. Â
I have patronized the nice looking, outdoor patio on the first two Fridays that they were open. Â The experience that I've come away with after both visits however, leaves much to be desired. Â Incredibly slow, and lackadaisical service. Â Incorrect food orders, cold food, and a pretentious, & overpriced menu for starters. Â Each table is lit with just a single, votive candle. Â It is tough to see the menu, or much else for that matter in the incredibly dim lighting conditions. Â They are serving everything on paper, & plastic ware which creates an interesting, if somewhat humorous dichotomy between the vessel the food arrives on, and the haughtiness of the food itself. Â I suppose there is something to be said for being able to feel like both the prince, and the pauper in the space of a single meal. Â It appears to be biodegradable dinnerware, so kudos for being green, but it really is an awkward dining experience, made more so by the goofiness of the paper plates being designed in such a way that they attempt to mimic "artsy" china. Â
An unfortunate side effect of the patio's proximity to the Fishkill Creek seems to be a constant swarm of mosquitoes. Â To dine here is to become dinner yourself. Â It seems that long sleeves in August may be your only recourse. Â As for the food itself, it has been tasty, there just isn't much of it. Â The whole thing just feels incredibly rushed. Â They are clearly open for business before they should be, as there are still a lot of kinks to work out.
