I recently visited this restaurant for a business lunch; there were at most 20 people seated (only a table of 4 which had food) , but it took the waitress over 10 minutes to take our drink orders then we waited over an hour for our entrees (total 1hr and 30 minutes for 3 entrees) which weren't especially great. The staff were very friendly but the food was mediocre and wait time was unacceptable.
Review Source:Roy Thai is located in a small strip mall and plenty of parking. The service was great but it wasn't the best Thai. We went for lunch and it was empty which probably should have been a sign. We got the curry puffs for an app, which were decent. Â For lunch I got the Spicy Thai Fried Rice with chicken and it came with a choice of salad or spring roll. Â If you like spicy, this is your dish! It was ok again not the best. Â Others I went with got the Pad Thai and in my opinion wasn't great since it lacked flavor. Â Prices were fine but I was expecting a lunch special to be more "special". Â Most lunch specials will include a salad/soup, spring roll, the entree and sometimes they will throw in a dessert. Â I was a little disappointed and will probably head back to Thai Garden down the street next time I'm craving some Thai food.
Review Source:This was our first time at Roy Thai and we enjoyed the food and service very much. Â The tamarind duck and black pepper shrimp were delicious. Â Everything was very fresh and appetizing. Â My husband enjoyed the fried ice cream for dessert and I liked the banana dessert too. The place is very clean with a relaxed dining atmosphere. Â I highly recommend this place.
Review Source:Have come here a couple times now and have really enjoyed everything from the Thai iced tea to the pad thai and everything in between! Â The service is excellent, it is usually pretty quiet which is a sad thing because I hope they survive, it's inexpensive, nicely decorated and very clean. Â
Definitely a place to add to your Thai food rotation!
Awesome. We had tried Thai Garden just down the street many times and I like Roy Thai much better. Their shrimp Pad Thai is far superior, with larger and more flavorful shrimp. Also one of the best renditions of Kra Prow we've ever had, outstanding sauce. Their soups are okay but not the standout here. I do think both Thai Garden and Roy Thai are overpriced for dinner entree's for Thai food but i guess in line with this area.
We've tried Roy Thai a bout 4 times for take out and every time the place is empty. Hope it does not close as the food is really great but it's kind of tucked away in a little bland plaza and probably not helped by the odd name "Roy Thai".
This exquisite little gem of a restaurant was an absolute joy from the moment I sat down to the wonderful ambiance of a splendid Thai decor reminiscent of a beautiful Asian cultural hall. The food was excellently prepared and I was delighted by the delicate spices and flavors employed in their dishes. The food was served in a timely manner by their most able young waitress Mam, as in "yes mam". Â I highly recommend the 'Kai Yang Chicken' which I found to be a magnificent dish . The chicken has the feel, flavor, and goodness of a succulent tasty sirloin steak. This restaurant really delivered in all categories.
Review Source:Okay so i've just recently come across this wonderful little restaurant in Orangeburg and man was I surprised. Â I've been writing reviews for almost 10 years and i've been to hundreds of restaurants and dozens of Thai restaurants. Â When i stepped into this little place i was amazed by the traditional decor and artwork. Â The service was impeccable and they treated you like family. Â I had a chance to speak with the woman owner and she was about as friendly as an owner gets.
I decided to go with a dish I wasn't too fond about but this restaurant once again surprised me. Â The Roy Duckling was astonishingly delicious. Â It had so much texture and flavor. Â I would definitely recommend that dish to anyone wishing to eat here. Â Not only was my main dish exquisite, but the appetizers (satay and steamed thai dumplings) were just as tasty. Â For the dessert, I ordered the crispy banana and it was just as fresh as the other dozen Thai restaurants. Â I decided to order Pad Thai to go since the rest of the meal was so delicious and the chef did not disappoint. Â It was just as tasty the next day for dinner. Â
If anyone is looking for a new place to munch down on some wonderful Thai food and great service I HIGHLY suggest Roy Thai. Â It was an amazing experience and I hope to enjoy many more.
I was excited to hear about a new Thai restaurant opening up in the area as I love Thai food, especially Chicken Pad Thai. Â I went there in July for take-out. Â I got the Chicken Pad Thai and spicy chicken fried rice. Â The Chicken Pad Thai was very dry, had no sauce and it was bland. Â It was so dry the noodles were sticking to each other and I had to cut it up so it wouldn't be a big blob of noodles on my fork. Â After two bites of it, I had to throw it out. Â I always order Chicken Pad Thai at any Thai restaurant I go to. Â This was the worst Chicken Pad Thai I've ever had. I don't know how a Thai restaurant could mess up a popular dish like that. Â The fried rice wasn't that good either. Â It was really bland. Â On a positive note, their decor was really nice inside but they need to improve on the Chicken Pad Thai since that is a popular Thai dish ordered by most people. Â I've ordered from the Thai Garden which is closer to where I work and their food is much better but they don't deliver. Â I might give Roy Thai another try hoping that maybe the chef was just out of it at the time I ordered.
Review Source:I just got back from dinner with my wife at Roy Thai. It was great!
No need to travel to our favorite Thai in Chinatown ('Pongsri' in Manhattan).
We shared 2 appetizers: Curry pastries ('Curry Puffs') and the Beef Satay and the best Crispy Whole Fish (ask them to de-bone) I had in a Thai restaurant.
We are definitely going back soon
When you have some pretty good Thai food up the street at Thai Garden (consistently good), why try a new place?
Because you never know.
Roy Thai has great service and the menu is extensive, providing items on the appetizer, salad, veg, and entree sections you don't see often at other Thai places in the states. Roy Thai will be a pleasant surprise and may get you out of your restaurant rut.
Enjoy. Â (3.5 stars)
