Amazing. I want to try everything on the menu. I had the turkey rueben-- it was absolutely enormous, and absolutely delicious. The sweet potato fries were heavenly. They were drizzled in a honey reduction. Even the cup of watermelon had some special reduction on it. The GM (I think his name was Joe) is super nice as well. I would definitely recommend to anyone living in Ft. Laud or visiting.
Review Source:Excellent visit!
She had the Rotisserie Chop Salad and raved about the range and flavor of ingredients. I enjoyed pulled pork sliders. Each seasoned and prepared a little differently than the next.
We both enjoyed the truffle fries ($9), which are addicting. Erath Pinot Noir washed everything down. And the carrot cake BLEW THE ROOF OFF!
Excellent.
We arrived at 3P, the perfect time to get seated immediately and served even faster. Jennifer was our server and she was aces.
Enjoy! Find more restaurant reviews on YouTube.
Flat screens extravaganza, this place makes me wonder when the day will come when some FL sports bar will just take the flat screen craze to the max and have every square inch covered in sport ozzing plasma!!!
Screens in booths, above the bar, at the back of the bar, in front of the bar, basically, my kind of sports bar.
Park across the street at YOLO for the valet parking, only $5, and walk across the street to a hangout that was a great break from the hustle of South Beach. An upscale sports bar, is what we need on South Beach. Royal Pig is a place I can see myself parking my ass in chair for many a Sunday next football season. Go Broncos!!!
3.75 stars. Â This place was far better than it needed to be. Â We ended up coming in here the afternoon after Alabama smashed Notre Dame in the national title game and fortuitously walked in right as some Notre Dame fans were talking about how they just didn't show up for the game, etc. Â Our smirks let them know what we thought of their excuses. Â And yes, we thoroughly enjoyed the cold silence as we walked in with our Alabama gear. Â Roll Tide. Â
Nothing on tap really excited me so I went with one of my standards: Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Â They were serving them in mugs that could have serenaded as pitchers. Â I was happy. Â The stunningly beautiful waitress (Ashley) suggested that we order some duck nachos, but I noticed that there were only six nachos per order. Â One of my friends ordered them anyway and lo and behold, they were awesome. Â I wish I could say the same for the New Orleans shrimp I ordered, but unfortunately, it was a bigger miss than the Notre Dame running game. Â Still, the nachos and beer were excellent. Â
The crowd that gathers here was for the most part young and willing to talk. Â I liked that. Â We met some Notre Dame fans and a random Indian girl who had recently moved to the area from San Francisco. Â At some point, we were talking to some Hispanic girls at the bar, but by this point, I was beginning to enjoy my sixth beer and we already had dinner plans. Â It was time to go. Â
I'm not sure I'd call Royal Pig Pub a "destination" bar in Fort Lauderdale, but it was definitely fun and I think I would go again if I was in the area.
We came here for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't packed but still busy. Loved the atmosphere - dark woods, TV screens, upscale.
Our server was terrific. Very friendly and attentive.
The food? Meh. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich. He said it was good but not great. The server steered me toward the meatloaf burger - not good at all. The burger was way smaller than the bun, meat was dry and it had a sweet flavor. I'm know lots of people who prefer some sweetness in their meatloaf. Unfortunately I'm not one of them.
We both loved the fries - hot, fresh with a little bit of truffle oil. Delish. Sad to say, fries do not make the entire meal. (I know, hard to believe, eh?)
Anyhoo, the server asked about my meal and I told him...he apologized and took the sandwich off the bill.
I wouldn't write RPP off but I wouldn't drive out of my way to go there.
We just went for drinks. The cucumber mint drink was so refreshing and delicious! Amazing service, can't wait to go back to try the food. My pregnant friend was extremely happy with their hot tea selection. Service was adequate and friendly. We were greeted right away by the hostess and waiter. The bacon martini was weird. it's called the dirty pig or something.
Review Source:This place is trendy yet down to earth and cool.
The food is solid but by no means healthy. it is pure comfort food. Well prepared and yummy.
We had the pork belly and green tomatoes and it was fabulous!.
The drinks are A-Ok and the salad i had (chopped with chicken) was very good.
Cool decor and ambiance. Went on a sunday night and the place was packed!.
Good crowd, young and lively.
All of my friends also said their dishes were very good and to top it off our waiter was really friendly .
The best happy hour in FTL! Â Best crowd, best atmosphere, best place to watch games. We've been coming here every week for the past few months. Â However, we stopped ordering meals- only fries or sometimes a kale salad. Â The waitstaff and hostesses consistently disappoint. Â Several of us have felt nauseous after ordering entrees.
Review Source:We had heard great things about the food so we decided to give it a try for lunch with our daughter...the food was good...I had a turkey Ruben...turkey was awesome...fries were good...husband ordered the soup of the day...never showed up...when we told the waiter, we just commented "it didn't." Â No apology. Â
There are no real kids options. Yes, I can order my 2.5 yr old the chicken tender appetizer for $9. However, the water came out in a glass glass for her, and he seemed surprised when I asked for a Togo cup...he said they didn't have any, but he could bring me a plastic cup....ummm duh why didn't I think of that? Â
So when we ordered the chicken tenders, the waiter asked if I would like fries instead of the gravy and biscuit...I asked if she could have the water melon....he said no problem...of course no mention of the $6 charge (for $2 more dollars I could have had a whole watermelon!) and worse, never did he mention that the watermelon was marinated in some kind of balsamic vinaigrette. Â He knew that it was for a young child. Â
I think we just drew the short straw for a server...I hope. Â
I will say that the manager (with a great accent) was very eager to please and took the watermelon and our sodas off the bill. Â Much appreciated. Â Still annoyed with the waiter. Â
While this is definitely not a family restaurant, families will go there and not being able to accommodate those small customers are a big turnoff for the adults. Â We would probably try it again, without our daughter, as the food was tasty, but sometimes not so great service can really turn you off to a place.
Holy Hot Men! Â This place is swarming with them ladies. Â
We ate a bunch of things: started w/ the pork belly BLT & fried green tomatoes-it was very good but I did cut a bunch of the fat off of the pork belly, personally I would've trimmed a bit of this off to start and crisped it up a bit more, but it still was delicious. Beef sliders were very good. Servers were fast and attentive. Â And if you don't get there early you will not get sat right away. Â
Tons of TV's everywhere, lots of beer on tap, and lots of hot bartenders to boot!
My only qualm [and why this is not a 5 star review] is they don't play sound during football games and instead play REALLY AWFUL music. In fact, we heard Gag Me style [gangnam style] at least 5 times before half time. It was terrible, seriously awful, we actually debated leaving b/c there was no sound and the music was so awful.
Tons of parking and it's right across the street from YOLO and right next to Timpanos. Â They also have outdoor seating, which always makes me happy!
If you are a follower, you will love this place. All of the drifters from other places on Las Olas now congregate here. Â At least this week.
The menu is good gastro pub dishes. Â The quality of the cooking is lackluster.
Way too loud. Â If it was not for the fact you cannot conduct a conversation I'd give it 3 stars. I'm not in to having to text to have a conversation with someone sitting next to me.
Ehh... My boyfriend and I went here on a whim because we had never been before, and since we live the area, we decided to try something different. We ordered two items off the menu, one proceeding the other. The waitress accomplished in forgetting one of our two items. Not a big deal, we had the meatballs and they were pretty good. The service was okay. We sat outside and there was a bit of confusion as to which server would be taking care of us. No big deal. They approach each table with a large bottle of water, which one would assume to be fresh, or at the very least, slightly chilled. Our bottle tasted like tap water, and was room temperature, at best. Once again, not a big deal. My problem with this place is that, it seems to greet you with a 'fine dining' feel, but it is NOT fine dining. And if a restaurant wants to give you a fine dining experience, then at least have a good staff. I will give the experience some slack, because it was on a Saturday afternoon - (yet, they were still surprisingly busy.) We must have just had bad luck. Mind you, the waitress was training another waitress. I hope the trainee learns NOT to forget peoples food (haha!) Anyway, I would give it another try and maybe come at night. But so far, not impressed! :/
(We ended up going to Yolo across the street. Always delicious!) how yuppie of me! :)
Love this place. Â It's still super trendy so be prepared for long waits on Fridays and Saturdays. Â Hard to believe the old Samba Room was here - they've completely redone the interior. Â Think leather booths and TVs, TONS of beers on tap and an ever changing menu with seasonal/locally sourced ingredients.
I tried the mama's meat loaf burger and it was delicious - not to mention huge! During previous visits we've also tried the Cactus Jack Burger and the Hoisin glazed turkey Burger. Â The sweet potato fries are the best in town... hands down. They melt in your mouth. Â
Service has always been good. Even on evenings when they're swamped, our waiter stopped by numerous times to see how we were doing. Â
This place ain't cheap, but for the amount and quality of food you get, I think it's well worth the price. Â Overall, two thumbs up!
Not a bad experience, but not the greatest either. Â Friday night arrival at 7. Very busy for happy hour, but surprisingly, our group of 5 got seated right away for dinner. Â Extra points for that.
Lots of craft beers, but also a full bar menu. Â I tried the Palm Amber Ale and it was good. Â Menu is full of sandwiches and hamburgers and the like. Â My pulled port was ok, way too much bread though. Â And not sure why the pork needed to have the cheese with it. Â I prefer my BBQ to be the meat and sauce. Â It wasn't bad, just not outstanding. Â
The place is very loud, so hard sometimes to hear your companions. Â
I will be back, but won't rush. Â They could improve the food some, it all looked better than it tasted. Â
Lastly, after a bit of delay having our server come over, he was very helpfull and attentive. Â Don't remember his name though.
Food was as good as it gets but the service has alot to be desired. Waited too long for our waiter and then again for the drinks to come to the table. Had to ask for the Mgr and I thought they would have comped part of the bill. Not to be. Too busy. Where's the customer service. I'll go back for the 3rd time soon and I hope the service makes the mark.
Review Source:This place is too busy, i guess that's a good problem to have if you're an owner, but if you're a customer, it's a bad problem. Â while waiting for a table, i decided to muscle my way to the bar to get a drink. Â good beer selection, and it must be great to be a bartender there because for some reason they don't have to give change. Â waited another 5 minutes and when i asked busy guy where my change was, he had no idea. Â get more staff to handle your business.
when we got our booth, same issues. Â place was too busy. Â food was good, but you'd better hope everything comes out ok, and maybe order 2 drinks at once because it's hard to find anyone after you've been served.
may go back if we have 2 hours and lots of patience to kill.
(UPDATING this review to add that I went back on 1/03/13. Our waiter was Jeffrey and he was great! It was a completely different experience than the first time when I wrote my review below)
Would have had 5 stars had it not been for the flaky service.
Had a wonderful time here this past weekend! RPP is directly across YOLO on Las Olas. Went in with some friends to catch the Heat game. We made sure to arrive by 7:15 to ensure a booth. Good thing we did that because we snagged the last one! After that it was stand alone center tables or by the bar.
The booths here are not just regular booths. Oh no! they are over-sized, comfortable and you get your own flat screen to watch whatever you want. Score! Even if the booths did not have the luxury of the screens, there are TVs EVERYWHERE!
The place was absolutely packed. Elbow room only! It's not your typical sports bar. It's definitely more hip and the food is really great with top notch ingredients (including some organic ones too). No crappy stuff here!
To drink we all had the beer flights. Those are $ 10.00 and it comes with four choices from the menu. I had the Royal Pig Red Ale, Magic Hat #9, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter and the Brooklyn Lager. Loved them all but then had a chalice (those are huge!) of the Royal Pig Red Ale. So good! I am usually a wino but opted for beer this time. If you want to drink wine though, they have some great options which include Far Niente, Silver Oak and even Caymus! Very nice!
These are the other items we ordered:
- Ribs- Sweet and tangy! yummo! Could have had more meat on the bone but good nonetheless. The cornbread it comes with is dreamy!
- Pork Nachos- I could have had that as an entree. Awesome!
- Mac & Cheese- with bacon? yes please! delicious cheesy shells!
- Pulled Pork Sandwich- it has a lot of pork. Very good.
- Cheeseburger- did not try it but my friend liked it.
- Sweet Potato Casserole- Thanksgiving already? yup! even better. This is divine!
- Hawaiian Burger- This tasted great but did not love how the meat looked.
- Meatloaf Burger- Sinfully delicious.
The burger portions are gigantic. The only way I could "almost" finish one would be to not eat a single bite of anything else and to not have any beer. Then maybe, just maybe, I could eat it all. I suggest sharing one.
The crowd was very mixed. You had a lot of college aged kids and older diners up to their 60's too. It also looked like a good place to hang out if you are single. There were a lot of groups of just men or just  women. Just an observation.
Now for the bad news, the service stunk. Our server was very nice but a little flighty. He was there and then he wasn't. He was all over the place but unfortunately never around when we needed him for utensils, questions or refills. He disappeared more as the night went on and they got busier. Not sure if that means he had too many tables but it seemed like it. There was someone else coming by the tables to make sure we all had what we needed and we sure had a list for him since it had been a while since we saw our guy. Â It is because of this that I left one star off.
Other than that, I will definitely be back here and often too!
I liked this place. Very cool atmosphere, nice selection of taps, and very interesting menu. I got their meatloaf burger and it was massive. I really enjoyed it. I'd suggest making reservations on thursday thru saturday if you want to come here for dinner because it gets crowded. Its a great place to go for a relaxed yet upscale date.
Review Source:This place was very confusing to me. Â It advertises itself as a place to watch college football and the NFL; however, they don't have any food or drink specials and their prices are very expensive. Â When I go to a bar to watch sports, I don't want to spend a lot of money unless I am ordering a lot of food. Â I also believe that if you are advetising your establshment as a "great place to watch the games", you need to have some sort of beer or food specials. Â I get the idea of a gastropub; I just don't think gastropubs shouild be trying to get the sports crowd's attention. Â Two things I really liked about this place were that you get your own tv if you sit in a booth although you can't turn up the volume and the burger was really good. Â I ordered the burger with a fried egg on top and it was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Â But it was very hard to keep together and I had to actually use a fork and knife to cut it because it kept falling apart. Â Nothing else about this place really tickled my fancy. Â The first (yes, I said first!) waiter was not great and he had horrible breath. Â It should be mandatory that waiters keep a box of mints in their pocket at all times while working. Â When his shift ended (which he made us aware of by telling us to cash him out), he introduced the second waiter. Â By this time, we were basically done with our meal and a couple of people were thinking about ordering dessert. Â But he never once asked if we needed anything else and I don't think he even acknowledged us except for grabbing a few empty plates off of our table. Â Did I personally want dessert? No. Â But others might have and he could have gotten a tip if he had just asked if we wanted anything else. Â Also, we kept asking the first waiter to bring us more water b/c they serve their water in a bottle. Â He kept saying, "Sure thing" and never brought it. Â We had to remind him like 4-5 times before he finally refilled the water. Â It's almost like this place is the runt of the pack who is trying to be like the others but he just can't manage to do so. Â He tries his best and we give him credit for giving it his best but things just aren't working out. Â Oh, and I forgot, the other weird thing is that they have items on the menu that are shaded out with no prices. Â I asked the waiter if they have these food items and he said they did but he wasn't sure of the prices. Â Hello! Â I pity the fool who doesn't know the menu of the restaurant he works at...
If this place is going to survive, it needs to figure out its identity. Â Either become a sports bar and lower the prices and get more bar-ish food or stay a pub and become a place where you can relax and have a cold one. Â Although honestly, I won't be anxiouisly waiting their decision....
Sandwiches were great.I had the pulled pork&my husband got the buffalo chicken(which by the way was rotisserie)
We also had the soup of the day which was French onion
Wanted to try the mac&chz but its not available until after 5.this place is a nice/new addition to Las Olas. will be back:)
Went for lunch yesterday with family . The decor  and bar atmosphere was quite nice. The menu is what I wanted to eat as it had turkey burgers,to pulled pork.
The food came I was expecting to really enjoy what I was getting but one bite into it I realized it was just another nice atmosphere establishment that hasn't got there food to we're it was enjoyable to eat . The pulled pork was tasteless ,cold and the fries were cold also. Â How hard is it to get a hot meal . The turkey burger we also got was tasteless.
Sorry to say I would only go back for drinks and socializing but not to eat.
Definitely very nice inside they did a great job decorating I will give it that. This is more of a bar that happens to serve food, then a restaraunt in my personal opinion.mthe food was decent bar food. Â We went for lunch and it was 1/3 full unfortunately everything we ordered was served warm. The food was not hot. Got the pulled pork sandwich with watermelon. Weirdest side every they should let you know it is not sliced fresh watermeoj but a watermelon salad marinated in some strange concoction that did not taste so great . I got the turkey and brie sandwich the turkey was good fresh off the frame the bread was a roll not so good. I think my sandwich could have been better if they used sliced multigrain bread. Also ordered a turkey burger dark dark dark meat almost looked like a burger. I think in would go back for drinks , but definitely not the food!
Review Source:The food is great, I LOVE the chicken tenders appetizer...genious...but...
Royal Pig gets 1 star for poor service.  I am from Chicago, and I worked in the fine dining industry for 4 years while in college- and since moving to Fort Lauderdale, I have noticed the service is...well...kinda sub par almost everywhere, and Royal Pig is no exception.  I have stood by the host stand and waited to be greeted for about a minute while the 2 gals stood there physically turned away from the front door and gossiped- failing to notice people waiting to be greeted and seated.  It seems like the FOH staff needs a refresher on guest service.  The service staff  seems to have been minimally trained and is somewhat strained, as during both lunch and dinner service, staff was barely accessible.
Also -NO takeout!?! Â Are you kidding me? Â That's just doesn't make any business sense at all. Â Why turn down such easy profits? Â Take out doesn't take up table space, it doesn't take up FOH staff or service staff time, and I KNOW they have to-go containers. Â Further, the place is right smack in between several high rise office buildings, so to not have a take out option available for your busy clientele is beyond foolish.
I know its awesome to own a restaurant & everything, but the managing partner needs to consider the needs, expectations, perceptions of the guests as a primary factor in the success of the business, because from what I hear its quite difficult to keep a restaurant running on that stretch of Las Olas...
Just sayin'...
When my friend suggested this place for lunch today, I was excited to go because it's a new place in town. Â Yet, I admit that I was a bit hesitant go to a place called "Royal Pig" given that I'm a pescatarian (huh? Â to you hardcore meat lovers, that's a vegetarian who eats fish). Â So yea, I was thrown off by the name. Â But I was pleasantly surprise to find that they had a nice variety of salads and fish dishes on their menu. Â I had the Sesame Seeded Tuna Over Greens and it was absolutely delish! Â The tuna was done perfectly and thinly sliced over a bed of greens.
The vibe was very much business-like being that it's in downtown Fort Lauderdale, but the décor was very much like an elegant pub.  Which means I can't wait to come back during happy hour. Speaking of happy hour -- I did take a peak at their Drink Menu ... and for you beer lovers (you know who you are), you will be happy to know that there are about 20 craft beers on draft.  With names like "Panic Attack" " and "Rogue Dead Guy Ale," their beers can probably kill you.  LOL.  But who's complaining.  I can't wait to get back on the sauce this weekend!
This was love at first site really!! I have not tried anything I did not like, and I've had a lot; pork nachos, chicken and biscuits, salmon, mac n cheese and OMG my favorite burger EVER the cactus burger! Great service, nice cold beer and a wide selection of liquor. The place has got it all. Go. Just do it!!!
Review Source:We took our whole family to eat for dinner on a weekend, and had an awesome experience. I have 3 young kids and my husband and I brought his parents too, and we were all impressed!
The atmosphere is fresh, lively, clean and has a cool twist of modern and old pub feel to it. There is no kids menu, but there were plenty of things to pick for our kids that they all loved. And we loved that you could pick the same dishes in big or small quantities (as apps or main dishes).
MUST get the mac n cheese- best we have EVER had! We loved the Sweet Potato fries drizzled with honey, super fresh and it's hard to find good sweet potato fries, these did not disappoint. A few of us ordered the BBQ Shrimp, and it is so tasty and very New Orleans tasting sauce to dip your bread in. We enjoyed the huge cactus burger too! We ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream dessert and it was delish.
We are definitely coming back and bringing friends! All around loved this restaurant!
Here is the thing. The food was great. Our waitress, Chantal, was attentive, knowledgable and very friendly. The atmosphere was great albeit loud. I was not impressed with the beer selection. At this stage in the game, if i can get it in Publix, i dont want it at a "Gastropub". The menu was fairly simple, of course the few items i did want were on the menu in silver text, noting they are not yet available. All in all it was a good time. The spinach salad is perfection and the burgers are no joke. I will go back for cocktails and munchies. As for dinner, i will wait until the menu is in full effect.
Review Source:Second time here.  First time for dinner.  We went on a Wednesday night  around 8PM.
The Venue
It's clean and aesthetically pleasing, however the layout is a bit strange and there is no standing room. Â The narrow aisle and bar seats with the backs kind of close the place off a bit so unless you get a seat at the bar or are looking for a table for dinner, you're out of luck. Â There is a bit more room at the outside bar. Â Makes it tough to just grab a couple drinks after work.
The Food
We both ordered burgers. Â I ordered the meatloaf burger medium and my friend ordered the Hawaiian burger medium. Â When it arrived I was trying to figure out how to eat the thing ... It was way too high more like a giant meatball in a bun. Â Problem #2 was that the second I picked it up the bun started to disintegrate around it. Â Problem #3 was that it was burnt to a crisp... awful and dry. Â It looked like a huge lump of charcoal with bacon on it. Â The only thing salvageable was the bacon on top and the fries were quite good. Â I also did kind of like the hand crafted nachos. Â A little messy ( lighten up on the guacamole ) , Â but tasty. Â My friends was dry and overcooked as well.
The Service
Service was decent but it would be nice to come back once in awhile and check if people need refills.
It certainly won't be my first food choice but for a pint of Guinness after work with friends it's always nice to have another pub option downtown.
I didn't eat. However, everything else was better than I expected. I mean it is Las Olas after all... I guess I should expect some class and sophistication. I may have assumed something less based solely on the name. Sorry!!
What I liked were; decor, prices*, and service.
*The reason for my asterisk is that they have no happy hour during the week... If I heard correctly they have one on the weekend? That just mind-boggles me. Regular prices seem somewhat modest considering the competition across the street.
Also, unlike many other Las Olas staples, they're not trying to be a dance club after a certain hour. I feel like every eatery downtown brings in a DJ after 10/11 pm and all of a sudden it's club "what's my identity?"
The pig is very nicely decorated with warm tones which make it very inviting. The bar stools were quite comfy and a good number of tv's but not too many as to become the focal point of the restaurant. Also, along one side of the restaurant are four seat booths with their own small flat screen on the wall.
The service was also great! Mind you I was there on a Monday afternoon.... I plan to be back in the next few days to try the food.
I would even go as far as giving them a 2.5... The place is gorgeous, it's so innovative in the way they made the ceiling for the televisions around the inside of the bar. I love the book shelves around the outer walls and the colors and lightening. Most of all the bar stools are extremely comfortable as well. Our server at the bar was extremely nice, they were really busy though so it was hard to get his attention. But he let us sample any beers we were curious about. We ordered our giant goblets ($6-7) and sipped away.
The menu is one of my pet peeves of this place. They are called the royal PIG pub, but there is only 5-6 entrees that are made using pork. Not including a slice of bacon on a sandwich or a salad that you can just add pork. That seemed off. Also, the selections are limited when you think about it. Every category has the same type of protein with just a different variety of ways to consume it. Take for example, the pulled pork: you have a pulled pork nacho appetizer, you can get pork on your salads, you can get pulled pork sliders, you can get pulled pork sandwich. Get my drift? I mean I can get those at any other typical bar. To top that off, the prices to me seemed extremely high for what you get, if you order a slider ($12) there are no fries, just three little buns filled with meat. Why do that when you can get a full burger with fries ($12) for the same price? Seems off but sliders are also a rip off in my opinion. Especially if they only give you three and you intend to split it with someone else and it's a hassle to split....
So we ordered cornbread because I just love cornbread. Well it was smothered in honey and a tiny little thing that was not worth the $6 expense. I mean I can buy cornbread at Whole Foods half the price and it's bigger and better. Digging into the little mound, I found it to be really dry. Unless you smothered it in honey it was chalky and dry. This just didn't live up to expectations. I decided to order the turkey burger for my entree with prosciutto and mozzarella and fries on the side ($12). Jonathan got the regular burger with bacon and chips on the side ($14). The fries and the chips were boring to me. There wasn't a great amount of seasoning. The turkey burger for me was amazingly good exempt for the fact that I found a giant tendon in the middle of a bite (not very good at details there?). And Jonathan thought the burger was just okay. He said later that night he had intense indigestion though.
So near the middle of our meal, Jonathan got up to go to the bathroom and noticed one of the employees in the restroom not even wash his hands. So this literally tore Jonathan to pieces because that's just gross. That person could be handling tons of things people will be consuming like glasses, plates, food. So before we left we informed the hostess who was the manager and we hope they'll nip that in the bud.
So the staff is nice, didn't wash their hands, but helpful. The prices are over the top for what you get, there is no happy hour (yet), and the menu is limited as of now. I think they need a lot of time to make things a lot better. Especially a more innovative menu. I really thought they would have more pork meals that were crazy. Where's the pork belly, man?!
One taste of their "Fish of the Moment" hooked me and I'm a reeled in fan of the place. It was superbly done with a true taste of a flavorful Cajun roux like base only comparable to the innovative meals I've had at the likes of  New Orleans' Antoine's, Galatoires or Commander's Palace. Equally outstanding was their roasted romaine lettuce salad which had the full roasted flavor, served warm, yet maintained a crisp crunch.
To find this in Lauderdale came as a complete surprise to me as did the fastidious, courteous and attentive service I received in what actually doesn't even bother to pass itself as being a restaurant, but instead, a typically very limited menu gastropub. Though we do have a few places that may fit the definition of gastropub (ROK:BGR comes to mind), being "primarily a local's pub specializing in high quality food," we don't have many.
I also find its location interesting in that Royal Pig offers a striking contrast from the across the street ultra hip in chic pizzazz of YOLO and its neighboring, rather gentrified, Tampino.
So as far as ratings, I'd have to rate Royal Pig in the category not of a restaurant but of a  "gastropub," and as far as that category goes, it's a five star for me.
I went to a soft launch last night and I can already tell this place is going to be an excellent addition to Las Olas. Â It's located across from YOLO and Vibe in the former Samba Room. Â The staff was very nice, attentive and well informed about the menu and drink offerings. Â There seemed to be ample seating and although there were a ton of people there it never got so loud that I had to shout to talk. Â I hate having to scream to have a conversation with someone right next to me. Â
I'm very interested to see how busy it'll get and how the service is once it opens at the end of July.
