I dream about this place. Once I dreamed about it, then drove 4 hours to realize my dream :) When I land in O'Hare or Midway, I am heading straight to this place.

Frontier gosht, frontier chicken, and the namesake sabri nihari round up my starting lineup.

Note that as I write this review I'm drooling all over my keyboard!

I've been here over a dozen times and have kept coming back for many, many years ... ever since they had their original location that burnt down years ago.

The Sabri Nihari is just amazing. The gravy is creamy and delicious, and don't forget to throw some jalapenos and ginger to stew in there to make it nice and spicy. The beef is tender and juicy. I like to order some garlic naan and have at the spiced gravy/shredded beef .... Great comfort food!

My other favorite dish here is the Frontier Chicken which is to drool over. It comes with jalapenos and lots of cilantro. While it's supposed to be spicy (and it is), it's not overpowering and is better described as extremely flavorful. Get some raita (cucumber yogurt chutney) and pour a little over it too for extra flavor, and to balance it if it's too intense.

The food as Sabri is great authentic Pakistani cuisine, the service is great, the food comes out fast, and the prices are low. Eating at Sabri is always a great value, and you'll probably have leftovers, which I always treasure from this place.

Highly recommended if you're going to dine on Devon!

I don't know who has been writing such bad reviews but I am so sorry about your experience.  My family and I went to the Sabri in Lombard and I wanted to see how this compared. I was not disappointed.

The servers were so attentive and friendly.  They made wonderful conversation.  We were even informed when we ordered the Chicken Charga that it would take 40 minutes (which was no problem).  The food was excellent.  When we had to take boxes for the food we didn't finish they even gave us an extra aloo paratha.

The restaurant is decorated very nicely and kept clean.  We were sitting by this cute bubble contraption and they turned the lights on for us so we could get the full effect (without us needing to ask).

As with any place on Devon you won't go here to see and be seen. And at this place in particular, you won't bask in the gorgeous surroundings: the look is completely average. Instead, you will go to Sabri Nihari specificaly to have the best food around. Pakistani is very similar to Indian, but maybe even better.

The Frontier Chicken is all it's cracked up to be.  Ridiculously absurdly wonderful. You must like a little spicy. All of the food is a little spicy. I must say, it's a little tricky to feed a kid there due to the heat range, but I will keep trying.

I asked for black tea, and to my delight they brought me a fabulous Chai. I never order Chai, but I'd love to have this one again. Wow.  Much  better than Starbucks.

The Mango Lassi drink was also wonderful. My son loved it.

We had the beef nihari and mutton biryani- place was nice good was excellent and so was service. We asked for spicy and I guess they make their food in batches ;( anyway the place was freezing! And so was the washroom I guess to save on money they also keep the heater at a minimum ;'(

    FILTHY!!! DIRTY PLATES AND TABLE!!

Food used to be good, but has gone down. Average. A bit too OILY, and too spicy.

WAITERS are clueless and look like they really don't want to be there.

    Please DON'T GO.

    LOUD

They have potential to make it better if they CLEANED the place and actually improved their service!

Best Pakistani restaurant on Devon. I highly recommend this place to all my friends. Great interior, great for groups & families, always consistent. Service is always good compared to the shameful service you get elsewhere on Devon Ave. They try, and that's what matters.

Ambiance and service is good. Food was good too. I liked our Non-veg appetizer platter but chicken biryani kind of disappointed me in the taste. I felt I ate better than this.. But I liked the fact their portions were humongous.

I've been to Sabri Nihari many times even before it moved to this location and I can safely safe it is one of the best authentic Pakistani/Indian food restaurants in Chicago.  If you want to get a piece of the action when it comes to flavorful food that wakes up your taste buds, come here.  Make sure you bring company and get a few dishes to share.  My favorites are the Frontier Chicken and butter Chicken along with the minced meat and potato and always get the naan (Peshawari naan).  The rice is greaet too, but I'm a bread person.  The staff is friendly and in uniform, and when busy it can start to get loud.  Though you can come alone, this place is great for feating with friends so you can try the many dishes and enjoy all the flavors.  I'm trying not to drool over my keyboard right now so I have to stop writing here. #Indian #Paksitani #food #2die4 #Chicago

10/06/2012: Ok this was my second visit. Last time I had Niharee and some other stuff. This time I had Biharee Kabab and one Naan. Biharee Kabab was good ... Mush and very flavorful. I would like it to be cooked a tad bit more. But it wasn't bad at all. Naan was really good and they gave complimentary salad and chutney's with it. Food was not spicy at all.

I do have a complaint. Which for some is very odd ,,, The give you too much food. It is almost impossible for one to finish. Now don't get me wrong. I can seriously eat and chow down. But this place have insane amounts of food. This was the case with Niharee on my previous visit and same issue with Biharee Kabab. There is no way in the world an average person can finish that.

I definitely would recommend this place for Authentic Pakistani Food. Good food & excellent service.

I patronize Sabri every year I'm in Chicago, and it seems the quality of food slips a notch with every visit. Food was at its best till the establishment burned down to the ground in 2006, and the cooks found jobs elsewhere. What rose from the ashes was a fancy (fancy for Devon) building with fancy bathrooms. But I don't go to Sabri Nihari for the bathrooms. The flagship dish, Nihari, used to be a mouth watering stew with chunks of succulent beef and bone marrow in spicy broth. Sadly, now what comes to the table in the shape of Nihari is as appetizing as rationed MRE! The broth is not clear but muddy and slimy, and the delicate balance of spices that gives Nihari it's distinct flavor and aroma is AWOL.

My wife and I went there tonight. First impression: Too many waiters hovering around aimlessly. After we were seated and ordered the appetizer, we were approached by no less than three different waiters who were eager to feed us but couldn't figure out who took the order for the appetizer.  It appears that they don't assign a single waiter to your table, and this adds to the chaos. The eager beavers stand over you constantly, and you get no reprieve from their prying eyes. The laminated menu had a greasy feel to it, and the description of dishes inside was in tortured English.

    The bathrooms are fancy.

I looked on Yelp to decide which Indian restaurant on Devon to go to Friday with Cassie D.  Sabri Nihari had good reviews, and suggestions and recommendations from people I trust!  It seemed like an obvious choice, but I was worried about the place being too packed.  We arrived at 6pm on Friday night and the place was empty.  The dinner crowd seemed to get there around 7-8, so if you want a quiet spot go for an early dinner!

We both chose the Frontier Chicken (it just had so many glowing reviews that we both wanted to try it).  We also split naan and basmati rice.  As other people have said, the portions are large!  When we ordered our waiter suggested we split the frontier chicken since it's large enough for 2 people.  We both wanted left overs so we didn't share, but I did appreciate the fact that he let us know that we over ordered!  Everything was delicious!

I was also really impressed with how pretty it was inside of the restaurant.  The bathrooms are quiet pretty and very clean.  The staff was really friendly and very quick.  All in all I thought it was a really nice restaurant!

We paid $17 each for dinner, and we both had enough leftover for an extra meal.  I think this was a reasonable price for a restaurant this nice!  This would be a great place to come for a special family meal.

Omg... frontier chicken is amazing. I really wanted the fried chicken that was featured on Chicago's best, but the host advised against it because it takes 45 minutes and gf and I never had the frontier chicken.

Also got the paneer makhani and a mango lassi. I really like the AYCE places for Indian food on Devon as I get to have a little of everything, but for a regular restaurant I would definitely come back here again. Very, very good food and good service!

I'm lowering my rating slightly to 3.5 stars.  Yes, it's still the best Pakistani restaurant on Devon though that isn't saying much given all of the other mediocre establishments in the area.  Sabri is an enigma to me.  Their biggest problem I think is lack of consistency.  When they are on their game, the food is incredible.  But the food quality varies wildly.  Case in point:  I had frontier chicken a few weeks ago that was easily one of the best meals I've eaten in a long time.  I ordered the same dish a week later and it was nearly unrecognizable, both in appearance and taste.  A disgusting oily mess of overly spiced, stale tasting chicken.  That's unfortunately the case with a lot of the food at Sabri sometimes.  I take a deep breath and say a little prayer whenever ordering here because you just don't know how the food will turn out even if its something you've had before.  I will give them props though on their recent renovation to the restaurant and the service which has always been excellent.

Some tips if you're willing to take a gamble on Sabri:

    - Recommended items:  chicken pakora, frontier chicken, nehari, chargha, lahori chicken, seekh kabab, falooda, naan
    - Avoid:  bihari kabab, pasanda kabab, chicken makhani, palak paneer, kulfi, biryani
    - Take a pass on the vegetables.  Meat is really their specialty.  Indian restaurants tend to do vegetables better
    - Portions are big and some of the dishes cooked with butter/ghee can be quite heavy
    - Rice dishes aren't the best.  Biryani is usually a Pakistani specialty but I've never been impressed by the goat or chicken biryani at Sabri's.  I've had better at Hyderabad House and even Ghareeb Nawaz on Devon

Dirty dirty dirty!  Very tasty food.

My wife and I checked this place out last night and it was filthy.  I checked for a restaurant in the Devon neighborhood and noticed that Sabri Nihari received 4 stars with a ton of reviews, boom!  Great Yelp find.  Well, the recent reviews spoke of the filth (I did not read these until we had placed our order).  Examples include nasty stained table clothes, a salt and pepper holders that had caked on makhani sauce, and what may have been a foreign hair in our dal.  It looked like my wife's hair to me, she swears otherwise.  We ordered a second naan that we never received, but were charged for.  I pointed out the problem and the server adjusted our bill promptly and apologized.

Okay that was the bad...  The good was the food itself.  Chicken makhani was tender and flavorful as was the lamb gosht (flavor bomb), and the dal palak was also delightful.

So, there you have it.  I would go back for the food, but for crying out loud... clean your restaurant!

Well, SURPRISE!! That's exactly what this place was for us.

We decided to try this place with some friends for dinner. Where do I begin? This place was packed and they don't take reservations so it's a first come basis. Luckily we had gotten there before the rush began.

We ordered their famous Nihari, charga (whole chicken), Sabri chicken, and Bihari kabab.

The Nihari was mouth-watering and so delicious! Honestly, I never thought I could get the same great taste at a restaurant that I would from my mother's cooking. But these people have made that happen. The Charga was also delicious and perfectly cooked. It's always good to order that first since it takes about 40mins to cook it. They add buffalo sauce to the chicken along with their own spices and that's what gives it the great taste. We didn't enjoy the sabri chicken but it was cooked perfectly. Lastly, the bihari kabab were cooked to perfection...the masala and the texture was perfect. The nan and rice are not included.

Along with the perfect food that they serve, their service was amazing as well. We were quite surprised to see that type of fast and reliable service. Truly: O-M-G as someone else had written.

I was just here on Friday night. My wife and I came here for Iftar dinner since it's Ramadan right now. We just expected to order dinner, but to my surprise, the restaurant offered pakora, fruit, chaat, and rooh afza for everyone opening fast, all for FREE. This was unexpected, and we truly appreciated this gesture on part of the restaurant owners/management.

We placed an order for chicken makhani (butter chicken) and palak gosht (chicken with spinach). The chicken makhani is easily the best I have ever eaten! I absolutely loved it and cannot say enough about it. The palak gosht was also very good and the chicken was very tender. We ordered about 30 minutes before the fast opened, and they brought it out just after it opened.

We had fantastic service - the servers kept checking on us to see if we needed more water or naan. The restaurant got extremely packed and there was a huge wait around Iftar time (I'm glad they told me to show up early), I've never seen such a a wait at any Paki/Indian restaurant before. Despite the rush, we received lots of attention and felt looked after. I'd like to thank the staff for that (I'm the guy that left you the little note on my receipt).

I will definitely be returning here with my parents who are coming from Texas to show them this place. I think they'll love the chicken makhani as much as me!

I have been going to this place for the last 6 years and I have to say that I can't remember a single time the food was bad. Its one of the only desi places I have been to on Devon where they get it right every time! The food is fantastic, though I would not recommend this place to a vegetarian as the vegetarian options are not as extensive. There are alot more vegetarian options on their menu than there used to be but this place continues to be best with their meats. My favorites include their Chicken Makhani, pasanda kebob and their biryanis. I also like their nihari and chicken frontier, Their prices have gone up a little bit from a couple of years ago but their food is totally worth it! Since their recent renovations, they have really cleaned up their service persona. No more filthy menus and smelly bathrooms!

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Food mediocre and overpriced. Service very poor. Came in for an early dinner with a friend (restaurant was empty). Being a gringo of Eastern European descent, I often have many questions about food I've never had before. Our waiter seemed very put out and impatient with all my questions. He also decided for me how much food would be enough for me. Oops! Gee, I wanted to try this other entree but I guess I won't since the waiter is acting like I'm this huge glutton. And I certainly did not want to take up any more of his precious time when he could be gossiping on the sidelines with all the other waiters. Well! we couldn't eat fast enough!
Should've gone with my gut instincts and taken my buddy to Khan's instead at Western and Devon. Food to knock your socks off, and you're treated almost as one of the family.

I don't know why I'm even giving this place 2 stars, doesn't even deserve one.

Now, when I go to a restaurant...I don't ask for much. Just a few things; cleanliness, professionalism, and prompt service. Is that too much to ask? There were flies buzzing around the restaurant, sitting on people's shoulders, the windows; the forks and knives were a collection of survivors from over the years - mismatched, unwashed, cracked...you get it, survivors. The plates were the small appetizer plates. We had a random waiter taking our order and another random one serving us and yet another random guy circling our table for no reason. =/

We ordered chicken boti, frontier chicken and seekh kabab with naan and 2 Cokes. My Coke had bits of naan floating in it, dirty glass I suppose. We waited 40 minutes, yes, 40 minutes for our food. This, after the waters kept saying.."just a few minutes"...I guess the manager finally noticed our extremely pissed off faces and he brought out the rest of our food except for the chicken boti (which was the dish that was taking so much time). I don't understand why they couldn't have done this 20 minutes earlier. =/

Ok, on to the extremely confused and ever-apologizing waiters. It took ten minutes to get the attention of one waiter for another glass to drink from. His excuse was, "I was so focused on fixing this table" - the table was right next to us, literally.

The food was good, it wasn't outstanding. Not worth the terrible service and rather high prices. Small things make a big difference and Sabri Nihari, despite it's renovations, hasn't realized that. Their service needs MAJOR improvements. Such a disappointment.

Went here for lunch. The nihari is a decadent broth with tender beef that goes excellent with the naan they provided. Also ordered a lentil curry dish that was an excellent complement.

    Good stuff.

My wife and I were in Chicago for a vacation and her cousin had recommended a ton of places to go eat and visit. Sabri Nihari was one of them. It was the first restaurant we went to in Chicago.

The place was very nice. We were seated quickly and served fast. The food was great. We had the Nihari, of course, and it was the best restaurant nihari I have ever had. Beef was soft and tender, and the flavor was absolutely a delight.

Believe it or not the nihari was not the best dish we had. We had ordered the chicken boti and it was amazing. The taste was so fresh and good we didn't want to stop eating. My wife felt like she was in Pakistan again eating very authentic food.

Definitely a must have if you like Indian/Pakistani food and you are in that area.

    FOOD POISONING - BEWARE

This restaurant is over-priced and over-rated.  My food was OK, but nothing special.

The service was excellent, and the staff made sure we always had what we needed.

Overall very meh, though.  $40 on dinner and my date left hungry.  We had to stop at King Sweets for samosas, chaat, and gulab jamun to round out the meal.

The ambiance and décor per se is minimalist and bare. The service was standard of most Indian/Pakistani places in the States.  People, who are familiar with me, acknowledge that I am the last person to try let alone go out of my way to an Indo-Pakistani restaurant in the USA. Simply, because I cook at home and without sounding pompous; I do a pretty good job of it. And sadly, most restaurant experiences have been utterly disappointing. There is a pretty decent Asian population here, then why the apparent hole in showcasing our wonderfully flavored multi facet cuisine? Why can't more restaurants serve food like I have eaten in India & UK? Well, that is another story, all together.

That said, I promptly ordered the Mixed Grill Platter, Haleem, Palak Gosht, Chicken Biryani, and some naan. Yes! We certainly love our meat. The service is prompt and friendly; however the kitchen does take a while to cook the dishes. I was thankful we were seated during lunch on a weekday, since the weekend rush would have truly tested our patience.

I have to admit, I was tip toeing given that I was nervous about how my family's critique on Sabri. After all, they are staunch connoisseur of good food, especially Indo-Pakistani cuisine.

The Mixed Grill Platter consisted of Boti, Chicken Tikka, and Seekh Kebab. The meats were grilled to perfection, succulent and spiced adequately.

The Haleem; one of my favorite Pakistani dishes and the hardest to make, is luxuriously creamy at Sabri. Garnished with the right amount of cilantro, onion, green chili, and lemon slice; Sabri gets it spot on.

Even though we were food comatose by the end of our meal, I couldn't resist ordering Kulfi Falooda. Basically it is house made Indian style ice cream (Kulfi) flavored with saffron and cardamom; served with sweetened vermicelli (Falooda) and topped with rose syrup; a nostalgic favorite of ours while growing up. It was a refreshing welcome to our carb loaded and spiced meal.

Chicago residents might have other local favorite joints when it comes to Indo-Pakistani cuisine. For me, however, Sabri Nehari is reminiscent to authentic Indo-Pakistani dishes we grew up withm and miss in this country.  We left Sabri Nehari with happy bellies, but most importantly with our heart and souls satiated.

Since I had MLK Day off, I decided to diversify my cuisine and headed over to Sabri Nihari Restaurant in West Rogers Park.   I decided on this particular restaurant due to its excellent reviews and proximity to parking at the Devon/Rockwell garage.

The waitstaff was very attentive and the food was perfectly prepared and superb tasting.  The Frontier Chicken was very spicy and flavorful, in addition I ordered the Basilmati Rice and Garlic Naan that was fragrant and delicious.

Since this was my first time at the restaurant, and I was dining solo, the owner gave me a complimentary Mango-Yogurt type smoothie that was bursting with flavor.  I'm sure that it had many more calories than the diet Coke I was drinking : )

There were many other dishes on the menu that I'd love to try in the future.  As I was leaving the owner came through again and gave me a pass to park in the pay lot.

I'll be back soon to try more of the fare.  Sabri Nihari lived up to its ratings and reputation.

Come in on a Thursday night and you'll find the dining room packed and animated with conversations.   They were still able to seat us right away when we came in without a reservation.

The vegetarian dishes were more impressive than those with meat.  Our table ordered the kahari gosht, dal palak and mattar paneer, along with some garlic nan, and rice.  Of those items, I thought the paneer was the best, slightly sweet and lots of flavors to try and pick out.

Their portions are ridiculously huge here!

I came here with a friend who'd been here a while ago. We're both foodies and avid Yelpers so I really trusted her judgment. I'm happy she chose this place. I've eaten plenty of amazing Indian food in Los Angeles/San Diego, and I was still really impressed by Sabri Nihari.

    The ambiance:
It was a bright open environment and everything just seemed ... clean. There were a few other tables being occupied and the clientele all seemed to be Indian/Pakistani besides us. That's a good sign.

    The food:
We ordered their garlic na'an, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Sabri Nihari dish (with rice on the side).

*The na'an was large and resembled a dosa just because of the sheer size.
*The rice (basmati) was nice and light and had a very garlicy flavor.
*The Tikka Masala was rich and really bold without being too spicy.
*The Sabri Nihari was full of oil (a.k.a. FLAVOR) and was the perfect sauce to pour over my rice to turn it into a rich stew.

Everything was on point and I was very pleased.

    The service:
The waiters here are too nice! So we originally did order some Samosas with our dishes, but we were happy our waiter forgot (I know this sounds weird). We wouldn't have been able to finish them anyway and we were so happy with the rest of our meal. Our waiter was extremely apologetic and wanted to give us an order for free, but we didn't let him. We just said we'll order it the next time we're in here :)

I highly highly recommend coming to Sabri Nihari if you're already a fan of Indian food or if you're looking for a good exemplar to try. I hardly give 5 stars to any restaurants, but I was just thoroughly pleased here. Highly recommended.

We ordered from Sab Ni to cater a party of 15 adults. The food was really delicious. The flavors were unique from dish to dish. Often times when you eat indian/pakistani food and the curries taste alike from dish to dish. Not the case here.

My only critical comment would be that some of the dishes were a touch greasy...and salty. I will order again and when I do, I'll ask them to go a little easy on the oil and salt.

    I highly recommend them!!

Tried this place for the first time but don't think I'll be going back.  The restaurant was beautifully decorated and their attentive service was amazing.  The host and waiters were the nicest people I've ever met in my life.

    However....

The bathroom was also beautifully decorated but was in desperate need of a cleaning.  There was so much water and TP on the floor I was worried about walking out with TP stuck to my shoe... and sure enough I did.  Yuck.

There were people there actually doing remodeling work on a busy Friday night.  They are adding on another room and while its lovely, we didn't really enjoy workers standing around moving furniture while we were eating.

    As for the food...

The host recommended the Chicken Pakora.  The flavors were excellent but the meat was just giant chunks of dark meat and gristle.  I coudln't even eat it.

Veggie samosas were amazing... I would go back just to eat a couple orders of these!

For entrees we got Chicken Tikka Boti and Boti Kabobs.   The flavors were outstanding... just absolutely delicious.  However the beef was chewy and rubbery  gristle.  The chicken was all ligaments and tendons and dark meat.

Also no Nan or rice included in any meal... those cost extra which I couldn't believe.  For the price of the dinner ($9-14 average) they could have thrown in some rice or nan!

All in all it was overpriced for the amount of food you received, and the quality of the meat was poor.  I'd stick with vegetarian options at this place unless you like gristly meat.

Sabri reminds me of a South Asian marriage hall, at dinner time....

... waiters running helter skelter to serve food as quickly as possible. The room packed to capacity with hundreds of guests. Attendees primarily interested in food, and to check out the dresses and jewelry of people known to them. Perfunctory greetings being exchanged. Kids running around, and between, the tables - generally creating a hullabaloo. Dishes on the menu running out....

... heck, even the quality of the food at Sabri reminded me of that at a wedding. And, I don't mean that as a compliment having eaten at hundreds of such gatherings.  The Naan was the only menu item that lived up to my expectations. The Chapli Kabab was bland, had a texture different from what is common in the region of its origin, and I'm not used to eating a version without pomegranate or coriander seeds. Also, I'm not at all familiar with Frontier Chicken that appears to be all the rage in Indian/Pakistani restaurants in Devon - and is perhaps someone's interpretation of the authentic and popular, Chicken Karahi. Sabri's version was greasy, and lacked the flavor and punch that I would expect. The spice level is dumbed down to appeal across cultures, but it comes at the expense of authenticity.

So, I have no idea why Sabri Chicago is popular and has tremendous brand recognition. While I don't know whether there is any relationship to the iconic restaurant of the same name in Karachi, I do know that the food quality doesn't even merit a comparison to that at good, let alone excellent Pakistani restaurants.

I did leave with the feeling that the management knew most customers, and made an earnest effort to ensure that people were seated, and served promptly, and enjoyed their food. I don't begrudge them their good fortune (they're literally printing money!), but surely they can afford to pay for the H1B visa for a decent chef!!!

Devon is such a diamond in the rough! Even though I'm a Chicago native, I've never been up to Devon, and it was totally worth it!

The restaurant has a family feel and the bathrooms were really nice and clean.

VEGETABLE SAMOSAS. Hot and crispy! Yummmm it would only be made better if it came with some mango chutney.

I highly recommend the frontier chicken! So savory with just the perfect blend of spices (boneless too!). The naan is soo good here too. My friend ordered the sabri nihari beef dish but I was not a big fan of the huge pool of oil on top. eh.. but the meat was tender.

My only complaint is the amount of fruit flies in this restaurant is really a problem. I dislike bugs, but I'm not a freak about it. It's just kinda gross when fruit flies keep landing on your food. So I'd recommend this place for take out next time instead.

*If you plan on ordering the chicken charga.....it's best to call in a order for it and tell them you will be there in like 30 minutes as it takes some time to make.*

Still very good! We had 4 adults and 1 child.

4 Naans - They got good naan.
Chicken Charga - It was ok, but it was very dark in color like they used old oil. Have had it when it was better than today.
Motton Biryani - I'm not a big fan of biryani, but it's ok. I can take it or leave it.
Sabri Nihari - My favorite dish here! Love that meat and that sauce (don't think dirty). It's just soooooooo good!
Karahi Gosht - This was good too. The meat was so tender and flavorful.

We still had plenty of leftovers and ordered 2 more naans to go. Yummy!

The excellent, long, and extensive reviews here are worth a read but I will summarize it for those of you who are short on time:

    Butter Chicken....do it!

Everytime I go to Chicago, I go to Sabri Nihari restaurant. Mostly because I have friends who freaking love this place. They are also Pakistani friends with quite a discerning palate. That is probably the best reason I can give you to go.

THE FOOD IS EXCEPTIONAL. Everything I've ever eaten here has caused my eyes to dilate upon visualization, my nostrils to waft in large amounts of deep aroma, my lips to smile and belly to get tooooo damn full. I gain weight when I go to Chicago.

Also I love the mango lassi here. Woohoo! Dessert you can pass on though. The one time I had it, wasn't impressed.

This place is full of Desis (South Asians). Expect their level of service... meaning not the best. It's always crowded here, be forewarned.

I went here after a hectic day at work with a friend because I was in the mood for Indian food.  I decided to ask a random person on Devon for a good Indian restaurant and she immediately mentioned this place out of the many on  that street.  Going here was a toss up between another restaurant on Devon and this place won.  When we got there, we were taken aback by the white table clothes and thought 'pricey' .

We ordered our food and the quality and taste were welcomed!  That food was really good, I had its signature dish, Sabri Nihari and my friend had the lentil dish (cannot remember the name), but he inhaled it in like 7.42 minutes.  The Sabri Nihari was a curry ocean in the middle of a curry heaven. On the spicy side, but the meat was tender and simmered to perfection.

Other than the overpriced white rice, the prices were reasonable -despite the white table clothes- and the waitstaff were pleasant, friendly and accommodating.  I highly recommend this place.  It is great for family outings and a date!

I feel the need to edit my review because the earlier one was brief and written in a state of biryani-induced daze

One of the best places to eat Indian/ Pakistani food on Devon. It has been our standard go to restaurant since Sizzle India closed it s doors and decided they would rather cater to the suburban crowd. Hellooooo, us city folks like you too....come back Sizzle India....anyway, on to the review at hand.

Sabri Nihari is decent, clean, and authentic...did I say authentic? Yes, I did!! Only a few steps away stands the restaurant Tiffin which should learn a thing or two about authenticity from Sabri.

This place is a meat lover's paradise. Not that there are different types of meat but, every meat dish is prepared well. You get the standard fare of lamb, goat, chicken, beef, and fish.

You cannot go wrong with any meat dish you order from here. The only thing I haven't tried here is the brain masala but soon,  I will get to it. My favorite in the goat biryani....the closest thing in Chicago to authentic Hyderabadi biryani (biryani connoisseurs know that Hyderabadi biryani is the best of all biryanis)

There is a vegetarian menu but, I have not tried anything on it because I am a rabid carnivore. Plus, I cannot get my eyes to wander beyond the biryani.

Service is better than many other Indian restaurants around....the servers come to your table frequently and check on you. And holy crap....the servers actually smile. (if you have been to the other Indian restaurants on Devon you know how service can be)

The food is not super hot but don't take my word for it because I am used to eating blazing hot food. If you feel a hole burning through your stomach, you can always cool it down with a nice big glass of lassi (thats what my non-Indian friends do)

No alcohol and they take only visa and mastercard.

Previous review (written in a biryani haze):

The best biryani in Chicago. Their frontier ghost is awesome. We go there at least once every 2 weeks.

    Definitely recommended.
