I have been here a few times and never really had a bad experience. Â The staff is friendly and for the most part attentive. There is plenty of parking either on the street or in the lot behind the restaurant. Â Nice dark wood throughout the entire place and not super bright like some restaurants are. From the last time I was here it appears that they maybe gotten rid of some tables or something, but it seemed more open than I remember.
Anyhoodles, I came here last night with my mom after some holiday shopping. Â They were not super busy which was nice. Â We sat down and the waitress came over in just a few minutes with menus, took our drink orders and we ordered chips and salsa. Â I forgot how much I love their chips and salsa. Â The chips are home made and came out nice and hot and were not overly greasy. Â The salsa is a little different than I remember but in a good way. Â It wasn't super chunky (which I like) relatively spicey and every once in a while I could taste a hint of fresh lime. Yummy! Â We ordered dinner after our waitress came back with drinks and the chips & salsa. Â I had the chili rellenos w/ pork green chili. Oh btw, they have a vegitarian green chili available as well if you are a vegitarian or just prefer not to have meat in your green chili. Â The rellenos were really good, not super deep fried like some other places and they used pablanos which I really liked. Â I am not sure if they used a pepper jack or if they chopped up jalapenos and mixed it with the cheese inside the peppers but what ever they did gave it a really nice kick. Â They were smothered in green chili and drizzled with sour cream. Â They came with a side of rice & black beans, which were ok, but I would have been fine w/out them. Â My mom seemed to love her enchiladas, they were also smothered in green chili and drizzled with sour cream. Â
All in all, good experience, not too expensive and well great company. :) I will come back again at some point, I can pretty much guarantee that.
It passes the test because it's clean and they have a decent food and drink list. Â There is nothing special about the food, but it works. Â The bartenders and staff are friendly and in a pinch it's a good place to go.
One thing that I appreciate is that they serve beers in a frosty mug. Â Kudos.
I ordered their chicken Enchiladas. The tortillas were just warmed and I kept biting into corn bits. The waiter asked me if I wanted rice and beans with my meal. The rice that came with my meal was crunchy. The green chili they used tasted like it was Stokes Green chili from a can. Chips and salsa were an extra $2.50 and did not come free with the meal. When I got my bill it was $13.50. Now I know why these restaurants are going out of business. I'm sure this place is full of young frat guys and hooter's girls on the weekends. I think I got a better meal at Taco Bell.
Review Source:Oh Salty Rita's, I am afraid I am no longer a fan of your establishment, since the service was just horrendous. The food is good, as are the alcoholic libations, so getting mediocre service was tolerated, but the horrendous service my daughters and I received this last time was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Our waitress acted like she was doing us a favor by taking our orders, and her visits to our table were few and far in between. I don't mind wait staff with an attitude when I go to Gunter Toodys, because, that's what you get at Gunter Toodys. However, while the wait staff at Gunter Toodys is all attitude (which is part of the fun), they actually stop by and check on how we are doing in an acceptable frequency. And, no, Salty Rita's was not busy; this was a Thursday night from about 5:45-7:00 pm.
Came here for dinner recently and I have to say I was surprised. Â They have indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor which can get kinda noisy because the kids play outside and run around. Â There is a pretty good menu of mexican food and drinks. Â I went for the carne asada tacos, which came with pico de gallo, guacamole and salsa, which was pretty spicy and good. Â They also have margaritas, shots and beer, which are decently priced. Â I'm not sure if they have happy hour, but it's a slightly expensive mexican joint, with a kind of loud/noisy environemt which wasn't super enjoyable.
Review Source:I really want to like this place because I work closeby and want a dining option other than the Tavern. I've been here a few times because I keep hoping I will find something that will make me keep coming back but I just haven't. The service is indeed slow, the staff is more interested in talking to each other than helping customers. The food is very mediocre to say the least. I think the Qdoba across the street has better Mexican food. I definitely recommend skipping this one.
Review Source:Despite some of the poor reviews, we decided to give Salty Rita's a try. Â We live in the neighborhood, and the patio looks busy almost every night, so we figured people must be going there for some reason!
They have excellent drink specials for happy hour, and a few $4 appetizers; we'll be sure to come back for that at some point. Â We started with the tortilla chips and queso dip. Â They are not kidding about "tortilla" chips - they are whole corn tortillas, fried. Â I thought they were good with the dip, but they were very filling. Â I would actually prefer a thin chip that didn't curb my dinner appetite! Â However, the cheese dip was pretty good and I would order that again. Â
On Mondays and Tuesdays, they offer a $5 burrito. Â My husband had the burrito - it was HUGE and pretty tasty. Â I ordered the guacamole tostada from the appetizer menu for my meal. Â All of the ingredients were good, but there was no spice/flavor, really! Â I added some salsa from our appetizer, and that did the trick. Â They should serve those with salsa already on them! Â
For desert we had the vanilla bean ice cream with churros. Â I mean, you really can't go wrong with ice cream, and the churros were warm. Â Our total bill after appetizer, dinner, and desert was $27. Â We were pretty pleased with what we got for the price. Â
Overall, it wasn't perfect, but there are enough good food items that I'm sure we'll be back, especially for happy hour!
The service is bad (in my opinion of course). Â Consistently bad. Â It ranges from ridiculously slow, to indifferent, to just rude. Â It's crazy how this place stays in business based on the service alone. Â I am not exaggerating when I say that every time I've been in there the server (we've had many different ones) has messed something - confusing the order, forgetting to bring a drink, charging us for someone elses dinner, etc...
My husband said today he's never really liked any of the food that he has ordered there. Â I do really like the mushroom/poblano tacos and haven't tried many other items on the menu. Â The tacos earn them an extra star, but the service earns the place one star. Â
Were it not for the fountains next to the patio for the kids to run around in on a hot day we would not have given Salty Rita this many chances.
I don't get this place, Â I've been here pry 12 times and the food is terrible. The fried food is great but that's it foodwise. The burgers have 0 flavor. How hard is it to season ground beef. The saving grace of this place is the great happy hour, nice and hot waitresses and all around great staff....besides the cooks
Review Source:We live nearby, so I assume this place does so well because there are not many choices in the town center and convenience wins out for most. We have been numerous times through the years and I wasn't sure if it was possible to get any worse - but it has. Over the years they have changed the menu a few times, although at this point, I am starting to think it had nothing to do with the complaints they get about the food but maybe more about saving money. They once changed the chips and salsa when most people thought it was the only thing they did well.
On this most recent visit, we decided to sit outside since it was nice out. The stench in the air we kept thinking would pass, was so overpowering we had to move inside before our food came. We could not pin point exactly what or where it was coming from though, it smelled more like sewage so maybe the outdoor fountain should be looked at.
I ordered the pork tacos. They were skimpiest tacos I've ever seen - not even cheese added! You get twice as much meat and toppings at Qudoba. My husband got a steak burrito but very little steak could be found. When I asked how his food was, he joked about his vegetarian burrito and how terrible it was. I took a bite and I swear, it tasted more like red beans and rice than anything Mexican - AWFUL! Also, we were never brought or even offered any chips and salsa so maybe they no longer serve any?
We have now decided no matter how hungry and desperate we are for Mexican, we will drive the extra few miles to Hacienda or anywhere else!
Been in twice now and food is not very good. The chicken tacos were below average. I would rather go across to qudoba.... They would have way more flavor. Staff has been really nice but a little slow.
Chips and salsa are really good but the food is just nothing amazing.
The quesadilla was great the first time but the second time was awful! How does that happen! It was half of what I got the first time with all the ingredients in it goes.
Great place for drinks who and cute patio! But skip the food
Was in the mood for cheese enchiladas and it was late, kitchen not fully unpacked so it seemed like a good time to check out the local eateries. Â I probably should have just driven further b/c this place wasn't very good. 1st of all poor service, not busy but hardly any bussed tables (so empty seats food still on them). Sat down eventually got ours cleaned, but service was super slow the entire night. And worst, no cheese enchiladas. Went with the burrito special but it wasn't very special, had it not been $5 I would have been angry. Â This is the type of place you go for drinks only, and maybe their tasty chips.
Review Source:I'm not sure why this place has poor reviews. Â We had a pretty good experience on our first visit. Â I will agree that the service is fairly poor - many different servers, and none attentive. Â However, this was made up for by the quality of the food. Â
My son had cheese enchiladas that were average, but a generous portion. Â Solid three stars out of five.
My wife had shrimp tacos. Â These were very good, and reminded us of street tacos we would have in Texas. Â In fact, I would go so far as to say these tacos compete well with Hacienda Colorado and Pinche Tacos, which are the standard bearers in Colorado. Â 4.5 out of 5.
I had guacamole tostadas. Â These were simply divine - essentially, a delicious salad on a tostada shell. Â 5 out of 5.
Wife and I had margaritas. Â These were terrible - simply corn syrup with lime flavoring. Â But, they have a very good draft beer selection (many micros) and generous happy hour pricing ($3 for pint of said micro). Â Next time, I'll avoid the margarita and go straight to the tap.
Overall, this isn't a fantastic place, but it's certainly better than the reviews would otherwise imply. Â I will return, and do so willingly and happily.
This place has gone from bad to worse. Â Everyone else on Yelp is right. Â The only thing worse than the atmosphere is the food, and the service sets new lows every time I'm there. Â Tonight is the last time I will ever give them a dime. Â I had chicken tortilla soup that I swear is a can of Rotel tomatoes. Â There was not one single lonely strand of chicken meat to be found in the entire bowl. Â I could go on about how this soup was the only good thing on the menu, or how the chips and salsa used to be good and are not, but everyone else already has gone to great lengths painting this picture in different ways. Â
I boils down to this: Avoid this place. Â
Hopefully they go out of business soon and someone else puts a real restaurant in that space. Â In the meantime I'll be going across the street to Qdoba, where the food is consistently good and the service is predictable.
Tonight was my 3rd and best visit to salty Rita's. Let me tell you about the first two. I live about a mile away and love Mexican food. Was hoping for this to be my regular place to go to get good Mexican food but it didn't end up being that way.
The first visit was ok. Service was not that good. Had a couple different waitresses. One waitress had her food at the table next to us, had a few bites and got back to work. This happened the entire time we were there. "munch, much what can I get you to eat, munch munch." we ordered chips and salsa which were awesome! The chips were deep fried soft taco shells so they were extra big. Pretty cool! That's very different from other restaurants which I highly appreciate. For dinner I ordered the pollo Asada which was so good and huge! I was stuffed. Very happy with the food. I guess we were sitting to close to the kitchen. We heard Metallica blasting from the kitchen AND Rihanna blasting in the bar area. Not exactly what I wanted to hear during dinner. Not at the same time anyway.
Second trip my husband and I went in at your typical dinner time. Was only about 4 tables full. Seated ourselves, like the sign says. Had 3 wait staff people pass us in the 20 minutes we sat there waiting for someone to acknowledge us and nothing! We ended up leaving and ate across the street. Thats just not cool at all!
3rd time was great. Went in with a friend. Had a tasty margarita and the same burrito as before. Loved it. Service was great. Had 2 servers but at least they paid attention to us this time. I would love to go back but that's just me. I'm always giving people the benefit of the doubt. It's just going to be hard to get the husband to go there again.
Salty Rita's is what Stapleton is missing. Chipotle is not cutting it for me, so I make the 8 minute drive to Lowery. Service is always good and very friendly. It's clear they pull tips because you never have just one person waiting on you, which clearly has its benefits for the customer, attentiveness.
We always order the same darn thing. Steak tacos. Comes with pico and their amazing guacamole! We always add their black beans and rice as well. So good and always leave SO STUFFED.
The place is dark, loud music, always a football game on and they don't mind changing the channels for you so you can watch what you want. It's not too loud that you have trouble holding a conversation, my point is that if you're trying to grab a quick bite to eat with small sleepy children it's probably going to wake them.
We love Salty Rita's.
Great food, good prices, quick service.
Salty ritas is a great place to come... I live close by and in Lowry this is my favorite place to come. The entire staff here has always treated me very well. When I started coming here over a year ago I was confused about my server but feel in love that everyone is my server. Its open seating and anyone who fly's Southwest knows you can sit anywhere. I have seen a few staff changes through my time here but every time it does change it gets better all around. I love the margaritas and the food. I will say something special to try here is the Relleno Burger its kind of awesome. When I come here I know I am welcomed and they make me feel like it could be my very own "Cheers".
I bring as many people as I can here because they are awesome, never felt so welcomed in a bar...
I don't go out in Lowry very often, but when I do, I always end up at a different place. Â I asked my friend who lives there if we could try Salty Rita's, and he said sure.
We got there at the end of happy hour, and I had a decent margarita. Â I switched to Bohemia after finishing it. Â The beer selection is above average for most Mexican places...they have Dos Equis Lager on tap. Â I didn't notice that til I was done drinking, ot I would have ordered one of those as well.
I was disappointed we weren't given chips and salsa to munch on...kinda lame for a Mexican restaurant. Â When my friend ordered them, the chips were HUGE...not in a good way...they were homemade, but needed to be cut to an appropriate size. Â They were, however, good, but needed salt.
I was thrilled to find out there was vegetarian green chile. Â I don't know why everywhere in Denver has to throw pork into it when that is not how it is made in New Mexico, where it originates. Â The green chile was fantastic! Â I ordered chili rellenos smothered in green chili, and they are the best I've had out of Santa Fe. Â
I also found out they are open til 2 AM every night, and I believe they are the only bar in Lowry that is open that late. Â Pretty awesome for the burbs!
Boo!
I can't think of any reason to ever return to Salty Rita's. Â The food is bland and flavorless. Â There were flies all over the restaurant and the wait staff was rude. Â At a minimum, I expect a "hello" from the server. Â Instead, he chucked two menus on the table and dashed off. Â Not a word. Â When I commented on this, they sent someone else over. Â The new guy was a tad bit better, not much. Â
The real issue is the food. Â Bleh! Â I strongly prefer the tacos at Chipotle or QDoba. Â While the salsa was okay (I've had much better), the chips were nasty. Â They were too thick and hard to chew. Â Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of good Mexican restaurants in this part of town. Â I'd advise anyone with a craving to gas up the car and drive far away from this place.
I live in Lowry and try to support the local businesses as often as possible. Â Salty Rita's used to be my "go to" neighborhood joint. Â The past year it's gone progressively downhill... Â The service during my last trip was so incredibly bad that it was almost comical. Â Almost. Â Unfortunately, it wasn't just the service that sucked. Â The food was terrible as well and not even a little bit hot.
I gave another attempt tonight and can't even give a food review... Because we never had the opportunity to order any. Â After about 10 minutes of sitting, a server brought a menu and took a drink order and returned rather quickly with it. Â After that, we never saw her again. Â Not even somewhere else in the restaurant. Â She disappeared. Â And no one else ever came by. Â After waiting a ridiculously long time, we finally had enough and had to track someone down at the bar to pay for our drink - since no one ever came to our table. Â Our server actually appeared then -- although she had no idea of who we were or why we were leaving. Â
And what kind of Mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa??? Â They didn't use to charge. Â The fact that they do now, coupled with the shoddy service is just insulting to patrons.
Went here for lunch today after not being in for a long while (about a year, maybe a bit longer) and I was NOT impressed. Â Service was... fine, I guess, except our waiter was big on the up-selling. Â He started with asking if we want chips and guac to start, yet we weren't told about the taco lunch special, which I would have ordered had I known. Â (I discovered it looking through the happy hour/drink menu on the table while waiting for my food. Â Choose two tacos and it comes with rice and beans... $5.99 I think? instead of three tacos for like $8)
I got the al pastor tacos... granted: I wanted to try this style because I haven't had this type of taco before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I don't think this is where one should go to experience al pastor. Â My meat was dry, bland, and had a few inedible pieces that I embarassingly had to pull out of my mouth mid-chew. Â gross. Â They filled me up and they weren't terrible, but I'm regretting not stoping at one of quite a few of the little taco places I passed on the way. Â
Also, not a big deal really but since when do sit down Mexican places not serve chips and salsa before a meal? Â I swear I remember this place having pre-meal chips and salsa before...
No, no, no.
I live very close to Salty Rita's and so have been in on many occasions, whether to sidle up to the bar or grab a booth and a burrito. Â
Over the last few months, for whatever reason, service has gotten lax, and sometimes downright negligent. Â Like last week. Â I went in for some food and literally had to wait twenty minutes to get my drink. Â By then I was so annoyed that I gave up on the idea of an entree and decided to simply get an app and leave. Â What was I thinking? Â I thought the DRINK took a long time to get out? Â
That's not even the worst part. Â I ordered the pork tacos and they were the most pitiful things I've ever seen in my life. Â The pork was cubed and so dry it could take your eye out. Â There was hardly any garnish, either. Â The tacos were awful, the drinks were bad and the service flat out sucked. Â What's happened, Rita's???
Previous to that I've been in to order my standard beef burrito or chicken enchiladas. Â Is it me or have the burritos diminished approximately 50% in size? Â That sucks, ya'alls.
I'll be avoiding Rita's from now on, which is sad as I've had some good times in there. Â But hard tacos, terrible service and diminishing entrees don't especially compel me to return. Â Alas.
S=super friendly service. I find myself coming here frequently on sundays, after my bff's hockey league games and everyone is so nice to our parties of 16+.
A=awesome happy hour specials. what gets better than a $2 coors light?
L=lots of late night specials, including a night happy hour and the occasional live music!
T=tostadasss....yum. loaded with tomatoes, cilantro, beans and more...makes my mouth water at the sound.
Y=yummy :)
R=right down the road from Lowery Base and Big Bear arena...not at all close to me but def a fun place to go!
I=interesting dynamic of artwork, music and decor!
T=totally continuing to come each sunday :)
A=a hidden gem!
'
S=so worth returning to :)
I gave this 3 stars because the margaritas were big, strong, and good, and my husband said the carnitas taco was good.
My steak tacos... on the way home, I told hubby I wished we had gone to Chipotle instead.
If we went again, which I'm not rushing to do, I'd probably get the tortilla soup and an a la carte enchilada.
Excellent food. Denverites don't know what Mexican food is supposed to be like, since they are used to "tex mex" or NM style. This food is GREAT.
The carnitas pork is crispy and delicious. The meats have been marinated and have flavor.
The fish tacos are very very spicy and delicious.
I will admit the chips are not so good, but the tacos and sloppy burritos are excellent.
This place is BAD. Â Not as in "bad ass", but just plain BAD! Â The first time I went, I just thought they were having a bad.... Â We were the only customers, and the service was super slow....the chips were greasy and our dish of them looked like it was pre-picked over by another table. When we got our food, mine was OK but my friends was barely warm. Â We tried to get someones attention to have it warmed up - but had to get up and tap on our server's shoulder, which always makes me feel awkward. Â I don't like being that pushy but dang, we couldn't eat. Â It was finally warmed up and brought back out, but by then we were too annoyed and our appetites were ruined. Â
We actually went back for another visit, thinking our first experience was an irregular day. Â This time service was still spotty, but at least our food came out warm enough to eat. Â It wasn't very good though - they used a sour cream sauce that was pretty unappealing, and everything was just mediocre tasting. Â
My margarita was good though!!
I've always considered Lowry a black pit of culinary despair, and Salty Rita's does absolutely nothing to change my mind. The interior is tacky, the service is so-so, and the food is god awful. I'd rather eat pages out of the Yellowbook than eat their Chile Rellano again.
Seriously though, what is it about Lowry that makes everything suck? Maybe the shitty food and awful cell phone reception are related.
I am in a MUCH better mood than I was several hours ago and I give Salty Rita's partial credit. The core of my bad mood was my ex-husband and needs no further discussion. The bad mood was further complicated by a drive across town during rush hour. HOWEVER...I had earlier been invited to a happy hour thing at Salty Rita's by some of my favorite friends. This is where things get better!
Let me start by saying this will be a Happy Hour and service review only...I ate nothing. However I have had the Tacos El Carbon thing before and thought it was really good..
The server was Ariel, "like the mermaid" she said, so I hope I'm right here. She kicked some serious "OMG I have 8 women @ the table and they all want separate stuff" ass!!! "Stuff."..meant separate checks, credit cards, debit cards, cash, someone may have asked to pay with gold coins. We threw everything at this girl possible and she didn't bat an eye! I applaud her and her patience. I had a lot of fun with my friends, had a couple of good cocktails, and am happy to write this review...
Man, where in Lowry can one find a great bite? Again in the area this evening and stopped in for happy hour and dinner. What a foul place to call a mexican food joint. My chimichanga was the worse I've tasted. Everyone at the table seemed to have a complaint about their dish. Only good thing about this place is that they put booze in their margaritas.
Not ever going back. Yuck!!!
I have been to Salty Ritas twice now. Â Both times I had the Tortilla soup and a side salad. Â The side salad isn't on the menu and they never have a problem making one for me. Â
I happen to like flour tortila chips. Â They are a bit greasy, but aren't they chips? Â
The waitress that always helps me is amazingly friendly and never makes me feel rushed or like I should order something more expensive. Â Great service all around.
When I have a break from school and want to sit down and relax I head to Salty Ritas. Â
I wouldn't say that I go there to get the best damn mexican food in Denver, but I do enjoy what I have eaten.
This was, unfortunately the worst mexican I have had in Denver. Â I am really suprised this place stays in business. Â Everything from the heavy, greasy flour chips (yuck) to the entrees are terrible. Â And the margarita was also the worst i have had.
This place really needs to learn how to make mexican food because it tastes like crap.
Four Stars for Salty Rita's
Cool name
Outside patio by "shooting water fountain"
$3 Margs during happy hour (on a Saturday)
Great service (hostess and waitress)
Plenty of parking (parking lot through breezeway)
Decent red chile (I usually dislike red chile)
Free chips and salsa (pretty good salsa)
I don't know why this place has been slammed with the low reviews (the smoking on the patio is the exception.) I had a great experience with the food and service. The waitress didn't even cop an "attitude" when our group requested separate tickets - four stars right there!
i have to agree with someone who said they keep coming back hoping it will get better. Â they have such a great location and nice space and yet, really bad food. Â The chips I think are terrible and the salsa is just OK. Â The guac was oniony and not good. Â the sauces are bland and there is no chili for vegeterians. Â
I also thought the beans had a bad flavor.
I'm just not a fan of this place.
Yup the food sucks for the most part although the fish tacos are passable. The salsa is decent but the flour tortilla chips suck. The nachos are total garbage. I dont go there to eat anymore but I do still go there to drink beer. Oh yeah and an 8 dollar mojito? Gimmie a break.
This is your typical yuppie Mexican food knockoff joint in your typical yuppie area. Â All the restaurants in Lowry suck equally.
One star for cold beers and decent margaritas. Â
If you go here, do not waste the $$$ or calories on the food. Â On a good day, it is bad. Â On bad days, inedible. Â Salty Rita is a nasty girl.
I'm not a big face puncher, so I'll leave that task to the previous reviewer. Â If given the chance, I would shake the owner by the shoulders, and plead with him/her to improve the qualify of the food. Â
I too, Â want this place to be good. Â Sadly, it ain't. Â Somebody please post if a miracle occurs and the food gets good . Â Otherwise, I'm done.
Man, I keep going back to this place hoping the food will get better, and damn, it's like staying with a man that won't do you right.
The salsa is spicy, sometimes. The chips are served half corn, half flour, if you like that. Every meal I have had there has tasted like a Spanish knock-off, but the beer is always cold and good. The servers are very cool, and nice...attentive enough.
If it wasn't walking distance to my man's loft and didn't have free wifi, I would have no reason to go back. serious.
