Stopped in for a quick bite as it is close to Dobb's Ferry Hospital. Although the Pizza looked wonderful, I opted for the chicken parmesan sandwich which was a disappointment.
I want to be fair and try the pizza and calzones next time as they look to be the primary reason people would frequent this establishment and hope to provide a better rating.
I have never experienced a Westchester pizzeria better than San Gennaro's. Their exceptional flavors spread into their varying pizzas impressed me, my family, and even our dog. Their delivery is speedy and they bake their pizzas like clockwork, so in result, I've happily tipped both the delivery fellas and bakers numerous times. In comparison from the numerous pizzas in the vicinity, San Gennaro's is the most exceptional, even with competition right across the street. Despite their small store size, their business operates better than any other pizzeria in So. Westchester. The guys within are just like the pizza bakers you'll find down in NYC - friendly and obedient down to each dropped ingredient. Aside from the excellent slices they serve, the store also sells/ delivers fresh salad, tasty calzones, dulcet NY-style cheesecake, and a wide arrangement of sodas.
The pricing is surprisingly cheap for their offered goods and specialty services. I even met the owner of the store, who was quite amiable and casual - something that I am sure any customer admires.
Thanks San Gennaro- you filled my rumbly belly, after I missed dinner b/c I was on a plane traveling. Â Thinking I could pick up food when I get into Westchester Airport was a bad idea...the airport is tiny and everything was closed by the time I landed. Â Getting to my hotel, I asked the front desk for a restaurant that delivered....and quickly! Â Now the food itself wasn't the best Italian food I'd had, but when I'm hungry, my judgement is a little skewed. Â The farfalle rosa (bowtie pasta with chicken & broccoli in alfredo sauce) could have use more salt, pepper and parmesan, plus the sauce was way too watery...the bread was good but came with no butter, the salad was warm from sitting on top of the pasta in the takeout bag. Â Kinda expensive too...but they delivered it right to my hotel room, so thumbs up....2 stars becomes a 3 b/c of situational circumstances.
Review Source:This is our pizza place of choice when we order delivery at work. With the usual mix of pizza, pasta, salads, entrees, heroes, and wraps, San Gennaro's has been called "the best pizza, Italian take out and catering in Westchester" -- but I'm not sure by whom, or when.
Today, we ordered two large pizzas, one pepperoni and sausage, and another with pineapple and mushrooms. The sausage was a pleasant surprise -- sliced sausage, not ground sausage. And the cheese and sauce is always excellent.
Perhaps the best pizza in the Irvington area. Certainly better than the other pizza I've tried in town.
