The Savoy

Love the concept of this place! Especially because I haven't had absinthe since a visit to Bar Marsella in Barcelona 5 years ago.  The server did a great job of explaining the differences between all the different kinds we had to choose from and we decided to go with the Mansinthe Absinthe. I had no idea Marilyn Manson had his own absinthe brand, so it was nice to  learn (and try) something new.  The presentation also makes for a fun photo op :)

We ordered several small plates, but the only dish that really blew me away was the coconut curry mussels. These mussels were huge and soo delicious.  Definitely the best I've had in Chicago, I would almost daresay better than Hopleaf, but that all depends on whether or not they're able to keep the quality up to par. I was a little disappointed to see that the menu was different from the one on their website. I had planned to order the halibut with forbidden rice, but found out it wasn't on the menu when we got there.  

One more tip - If you're there when it's not packed, I would definitely recommend asking to sit in the back room.  Our server tried seating us near the kitchen at first and the bright lighting and draft from the door really deters from the whole vibe of the place. The backroom is much cozier and more romantic.

The only reason I am giving 4 stars not 5 is that they were out of scallops and my best friend was visiting and we really wanted some!

Anyway the whole absinthe situation is very cool! Its a whole production which makes the dinner/drinking very entertaining!!
We had shrimp and scallops. The Shrimp came with the rice kinda looked like Rat poop so I could for sure do without that! Though the shrimp was great and so was the crab cake!

The service is phenomenal! Our waiter was super nice and explained everything will detail! I will for sure be back!

Absolutely phenomenal for brunch. I'm from out of town, but I'll CERTAINLY  stop in on my next trip into Chicago. The Banana Bread French Toast was a 10! I loved it! Excellent service too. As a foodie, I appreciate when the server takes the time to actually talk to you about the dishes and drinks. A+ in my book.
