Time for another unfortunate update... The L and I went for dinner there recently based on the time or two we had eaten there before and had been pleased. But this time it was short of our previous experiences.
For starters, our Fresh Rolls ($6.95) were lacking visual enticement and also flavor. I think they even used iceberg lettuce! They would have greatly benefitted from a leafy dark green lettuce as well as some vibrant red cabbage like there was on a previous visit. They were essentially tasteless and nothing to look at. The Sawatdee Tofu, fried tofu served with the same sweet chili sauce as the Fresh Rolls (also $6.95) were saturated with water and tasted bland and as if they had not been cooked to order, meaning pre-made. They need to invest in a tofu press!
For my main I got the large (I guess relatively speaking to their small) vegetarian Tom Yum soup ($11.95) which came with a side of rice. I asked for it to be spicy. The soup was tasty and just what I needed to help clear my head as I was getting over a URI but for the value was way overpriced. Just some veggies in broth and a small mound of rice. Â And my pot of Jasmine tea ($5) was very weak and when I asked for another tea bag or 2 for the pot, I was informed that it is drawn from a larger pot so I was SOL. She did swap it out but what for, I am not sure. That to me is inexcusable to not have freshly brewed fragrant Jasmine tea in a Thai restaurant. I tried my husband's Pad Pak Ruammit (tofu and veggies in oyster sauce), and it was the same water logged tofu and the oyster flavor was very faint... But the portion size was decent. Maybe we should have just stuck to them for lunch and not for dinner. $2-3 off their menu prices would have made the meal more palatable price-wise but overall it was still disappointing.
The restaurant itself is decorated nicely and the server we had was lovely but with my husband's entree and a tea and iced Thai tea came out to close to $60. I don't mind paying for good food but this just was not it. And for a weekend night it was pretty quiet. Maybe others know something we do not? We are always up for Thai and sadly this is just another place that we used to go... Â Just a few basic improvements would make the difference for us but I guess like so many other restaurants they feel the need to do cost-cutting. :(((
After going here a few times, the food is too inconsistent to rate or trust. Â The curry dish was yummy but when I go for thai I expect fresh vegetables and lots of them. We got the dish with tofu which was yummy! But the green beans were hard to come by. I miss that "this is so fresh!" feeling I want from a Thai meal (especially in the prime of summer!) The eggplant dish we got was also hit and miss. The fried eggplant we got it with was yummy, but the accompanying vegetables with oyster sauce was really disheartening. It was so salty and mushy the thought came through my mind, "is this canned?" I don't think it was canned! But the vegetables had very little flavor in all the salt sauce that had almost no spice to it.
The reason for the low rating has even more to do with how we felt After. I had that hung over on MSG feeling and my hubby had, to be polite, digestive issues. It's just not worth doing again, not to say you couldn't Chance getting a good meal, why roll the dice?
The people there, the staff, are very kind by the way. This Last time we went in to take out but in the past once or twice we ate in and has the similar inconsistent...three strikes you're out.
OHH yeah, and the "fresh spring rolls" were pretty talentless, iceberg lettuce rolled in bean paper with peanut sauce is really ---not good enough. there was seriously like 2 rice noodles inside and an invisible piece of tofu, a shred of carrot.
pleasantly surprised in general. waitress was attentive and sweet, place is nicely decorated, food was good. Prices are little higher comparing to other Thai places we been to. Soup which is usually 3.95-4.95 in other places is 8.95 for a small bowl and 12.95 for a large with rice. all appetizers are around 7 dollars which evens to a high end. entrees are around 11-13 which is "average".
Eggplant dish we had was very tasty, ke mao noddle dish was very different from what we expected but decent in general. Tom Kha Gai soup was excellent. Spice level was perfect for me as well.
Another good point - i didn't taste sugar in anything we have ordered (except thai ice tea)- and I appreciate this for sure.
What a wretched experience!
First off, yes, it's beautifully decorated. Â Hand-carved wood panels and gorgeous silk tablecloths, etc. Â But I come for food first, service second, and decor last. Â The food was iffy, and the service was absolutely horrid.
I was promptly seated in an otherwise empty dining room, and this was around 1:30 or so, so I suppose the lunch crowd had thinned out. Â As I was being walked to my table, I was asked what I'd like to drink. Â I was brought my water ("$2.25 for a can of soda, go screw yourself!" I thought to myself) and then the waiter disappeared. Â Didn't ask me what I'd like to order, just walked off. Â About five minutes later I was able to flag him down to place my lunch order. Â
Trey E: "Pad see ew, please. Â With the spring rolls." Â
Waiter: "What? What number? I need the number. And how spicy?"
Trey E (pointing to menu): Â "This one, the Pad see ew. Â And very spicy please."
Waiter: "Okay, [whatever number it is], spicy"
...
Comes back to ask if I wanted soup or spring rolls.
...
Brings spring rolls. Â I ask for more water. Â Holy crap spring rolls are surprisingly delicious.
...
Flag him down again to ask for more water, to no avail. Â I finally just get up to get my own damn water, and bring the pitcher back with me.
When my food is brought, it is absolutely bland. Â Very little flavour, decidedly ZERO spice. Â I ask why this is and he said I could make it spicy with some sort of powder. Â He disappears to fetch said powder, leaving me wondering why I was even asked how spicy I want my food. Â He returns and I ask for Sriracha. Â He has no idea what I'm talking about. He comes back with a red goo that isn't spicy. Â I think it's sweet and sour sauce. Â I'm asked if I want more water, and I point to the pitcher and explain that since he couldn't do it himself, I had to. Â He responds "oh." Â Another ten to fifteen minutes after I'm obviously done eating (I'm honestly not exaggerating) I finally get my check, put down a twenty on a $9.71 tab and was brought a ten and 29 cents. Â That was his last mistake while I was in the restaurant.
Tucked away in a small town, this is a great alternative to driving to the city or further for good Thai. The owner is really friendly and ready to answer any questions you might have about the menu! I wish there was Roti on the menu, but other than that the food is excellent. Service was great, although a little slow, but when everything is made to order, you can't really expect anything else.
Review Source:Came here with a few friends this past Friday night, our friends made a reservation which they said over the phone seemed a little confusing and wasn't sure if it would be there when we arrived.  The place was packed when we got there but they had our reservation, phew!  I think they opened last Fall but they still have some kinks to work out.  They claimed to have only recently got their liquor license and were only offering 2 types of beers, nothing else and they were really trying to push these beers.  The waitress was also a bit pushy about taking our order and finally when we did order some of us asked for our meal to be spicy but she sorta refused  just wanted to make it medium and then next time we see how we like it and then decide if we want it spicier.  uhm thanks? Â
We ordered the app plate to share as an appetizer... it consisted of a mix of chicken satay, some dumplings, egg rolls, spring rolls, and something called fish cakes which no one really liked.. they were a bit rubbery and not all that tasty. Â I don't recall the name of all the entrees but everyone was pretty pleased with them. Â They medium wasn't spicy so we requested more spice and they brought out some chili which definitely gave it more of a kick. Â
The biggest complaint had by all was the manager/owner was this scuzzy looking guy who if I were Gordon Ramsey would tell him he needs to stay in the kitchen because he was quite annoying and scaring off patrons.
I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago while visiting family in NY. Â This is a new place - opened sometime in Sept/Oct 2010 (I think this was what the owner told us).
Ambience: is nice and quiet. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was not very crowded at all - just a coupe other tables were occupied; definitely made us rethink our restaurant choice but we were pleasantly surprised.
Food: I am Indian with a love for all things flavorful and spicy. I Loved what I ordered - the vegetarian fried rice and chicken satay. The satay dipping sauce was really really good. I had the coconut custard for dessert - Yummy! The next time, I will order their Pad Thai to see whether it can compete with my favorite Thai restaurant in Minneapolis.
Service: was great - the staff were attentive but discretely so. I hate restaurants where people are hovering around our table all the time / completely ignoring us.
Price: OK priced. Definitely not pricey but not very cheap either.
The rest of the family seemed to like what they ate too - Â I would definitely visit the place a second time and sample more of their fare.
The food is descent. Some dishes are good and some not so good.
But I was excited to see a Thai restaurant in Orange County. I thought I would not have to cross the bridge to Beacon to get my Thai fix any longer. It turns out I will continue to drive to Beacon.
I ate there on a week night and made sure to call them to find out what time they serve until. I was told 9:30 and got there by 8:30. The service started out good but by 9:30 our party of four were being rushed out the door. The service was rude and we were abruptly asked if we wanted desert then handed the check when we declined. The staff stared at us as if their brusk tone did not convey their desire for us to leave. If you do not want to be there past 9:30 than close the kitchen at 8:30. Unacceptable especialy for a new restaurant trying to establish themselves.
