Why did I not know about this place sooner? Yes it's a bit off the beaten path. But it's a great spot. I came here with friends one night and closed down the bar with the coolest bartender in OB. Great cocktails and generous shots! As far as the food goes, I only tried the cheddar biscuits. They are an excellent snack that help soak up alcohol. Glad I (literally) stumbled upon Sessions. I'll be back!
Review Source:Come here for drinks, not food.
The food is over priced, the menu is tiny, and the service is lack luster. The salads are tiny and average about ten bucks. The deviled duck eggs are strange and cost eight dollars for three halves... that eight bucks for an egg and a half!? I prefer deviled chicken eggs. We shared some mussels that were good, I enjoyed the sauce a lot, but also tiny portion and very expensive.
They have quite an extensive list of cool drinks though, but I just stuck to wine. I've come here before for drinks and if you enjoy moscow mules, they have  good one here. One thing that bothered me was that my husband asked if they had Ballast Point Yellowtail Pale Ale on tap, and they did not, so he asked for something similar, our server brought him an IPA??? I'm assuming the bartender reccomended it but WTF, a pale ale and IPA are completely different. The only thing similar was the color.... for a place that prides itself on craft beer and cocktails, they need to have employees that are farmiliar with the different types of beer. My husband and I hate complaining so he just drank the beer he didn't care for and paid for it as well. Also while we were eating, a cook?? Or one of the employees went right outside the front door (which we were sitting by) and lit a cigarette, and all the smoke blew right back inside into our faces... not very appetizing.
Our server was nice enough, however she seemed like she was in such a rush to take our order so she could go back to chatting with the bartender, and never came to check on how our food was. We were the only table in the place. Blah. Super annoying. Being a server myself I know what it takes to EARN a good tip. It peeves me when servers think they DESERVE a good tip for basically doing nothing. She definetly got a 10% tip. Sorry girlfriend.
Basically if you want a hipster-ish atmosphere to chill and have some drinks with friends this place is probably fine, but expect to pay a pretty penny.
Sessions Public right here in our hood!! Please read my fellow Pointers
This is rare find in a , to say the least, boring and out dated neighborhood. I have lived here my whole 50 years and have been to the Catalina Lounge once. The bartender was great and the staff was spot on. I had the Duck tacos and they blew my mind. My Dad had the flat bread duck. I found it a bit dry and lacking in several very needed components, but still tasted good. The barrel they opened was excellent and well presented. Never in my life have I sat a bar and had 5 ordinary guys invite us into their conversation and share food back and forth from each of their plates and welcome us into their dining experience like that. The food service was a little slow as they were packed. We waited 45 minutes for our food but.....so well worth the wait!! They have already outgrown the building but they may be able to grow more still. One more thing they do is participate in this free shuttle called "The Taste of Point Loma" that picks you up in front and runs between several local bar/foodie places here in PL, OB, and Shelter Island. Our beloved beach town is our home and I am proud of it. This place is a welcome addition and stands alone with a great vibe and awesome food.
