We came for brunch and man the place was packed! That took me by surprise because I didn't know Shells & Sauce was known for breakfast items! Our waiter was a very easy going dude and would wink at us every time we requested something, signaling we're being well taken care of, I liked that! Especially when he worked so hard to "look for" a lasagna for me. You see, I'd read at several places their lasagna is a must-try, but because this is brunch, they don't serve that. After seeing how disappointed I was, our waiter went away and came back with good news: they still had a piece left over from last night. I was desparate to try it so I agreed to have left over food, lol. Then I sort of regreted it and couldn't shake the thought of "what if". What if I'd had it fresh? Would it still have tasted as salty? Nonetheless, the lasagna was HUGE and they used a mixture of fine cheese that after being baked, smelled so good I thought I was having creme brulee! really! The spiked sauce was not my thing, but luckily, my boyfriend liked it. He had the Italian Grilled Cheese and we asked to upgrade the fries to Funnel Fries. What a fun idea! We absolutely loved it!
Our friends had that day's specials: Sausage and mushroom omlete with hashbrowns, and Spinach Florentine Benedict with hashbrowns, respectively. Both dishes looked very big and the fact that they finished them all tells me they must be pretty good!
Until I come back during dinner time and try the true Italian fare, I'm going to give Shells & Sauce 3.5 stars.
Yum yum yum. Â Everything about this place was great. The balsamic dipping sauce served with the homemade fresh bread, instead of boring old butter, was to die for. I went with two friends and we ordered the steak special , the pasta special and a seafood pasta. I wish I could remember all of the names, but I can tell you that we all ate off each others plate because we couldn't decide which one was the best.
Service was great. We were able to talk and drink wine and catch up, but our waiter was still really attentive. This place has an intimate, comfortable neighborhood atmosphere and the food is great.
We went late at night after the Botanical Gardens and it had a fair amount of people for close to 9ish.
The food here is just wonderful The bread is simply divine. I had gnocchi, and the Gorgonzola sauce was cheesy and a perfect texture of creamy. I also had a Caesar salad that was perfect on the amount of dressing and a good size for a side. Â My friend's food was great too; two had the special of stuffed ravioli with crab. Â I did not have any beverages except water, but my friends all had mixed drinks and said they were great.
There are two drawbacks to this place: the size- the entry way does not leave any place to wait, so you are kind of in the middle of the room in an uncomfortable kind of way waiting...and the tables are very close. My chair kind of stuck out in the walkway and I felt like I was constantly in the way of the waitstaff. Â The waitstaff were slow. Like, super slow. I understand we were there late, but there weren't that many tables and they hadn't closed yet... we waited a while for our check and my friends waited a good while for their drinks. Â But the food... the food is soooooo good.
Oh, and... I really want to try their dessert menu. A lot.
My glorious return did not disappoint. Â Two co-workers and I returned on a Thursday night and were seated in about 10 minutes. Â I'm still delighted by the $4.50 Yelp deal on a glass of wine. Â The bread and balsamic that they serve right when you sit down hits the spot and is delicious!
All party members decided that their food was great. Â I ordered the stuffed shells. Â YUMMMMMM. Â They were stuffed with creamed sweet potato and butternut squash along with goat cheese and parmesan sprinkled on top. Â All of this served over a creamy pesto sauce that balanced the sweetness of the butternut squash well. Â Usually I like to take part of my dinner home to have for lunch the next day, but I cleared my plate (as did everyone else at the table, despite ourselves).
Really good dinner here last night. Everyone enjoyed their food and the desserts looked amazing. We had a large group and a 7:00 reservation. It was probably closer to 7:30 before we were seated and there was no good place to wait. I felt like I was going to fall into the table behind me several times. No way to enjoy a before-dinner drink (or even conversation) while we waited as the small bar area was packed, too. In the spring or summer you could wait outside; in the winter it's a bit trickier.
I called earlier in the day to discuss my food allergies and the menu and was really disappointed by the indifferent response I got. Having said that, the waiter was much more helpful and I was able to thoroughly enjoy my dinner, too.
I would recommend Shells and Sauce for couples or small groups. A group of 10 was a bit much for the space and it is so loud that you're lucky to be able to hear the person next to you, let alone anyone further away.
Great time here with my husband last weekend. The atmosphere was lovely... it has that cozy neighborhood feel with just the right amount of energy and noise that makes for a great, laid-back Friday night dinner. The food was delicious--I had the gnocchi in a Gorgonzola cream sauce (umm, yeah) and husband had the chicken parm (which he quickly consumed and nearly licked the plate clean). The wine was great and the service was friendly and attentive. The only factor holding me back from a full 5 stars is that we made a reservation for 6:45 and didn't get seated until around 7:20. So that annoyed me at first but it was a quick recovery... I can certainly see why people would want to linger because I know we did. We'll definitely be back and can't wait to try more of the menu!
Review Source:Fantastic restaurant! We had such a fun time and such a great meal, we will definitely be back next time we are in Denver! Great for dinner, we recommend sitting upstairs.
At first the name deterred us (we thought maybe a very informal lunch place), but we couldn't be happier. The food, service, wine selection, bread and atmosphere are all worthy of 5 stars. Well done!
While I do like their dinner a lot- I LOVE their brunch! We went with a big table (yes they accept brunch reservations) of 8 and everything was delicious. Funnel Fries- crazy but awesome, the chicken and waffles is actually a breast so a buit healthy, my eggs carbonara were incredible, short ribs were a bit fatty but good, waffle and crab cakes were awesome. I would only suggest that they shouldn't be afraid of spice. The short ribs and arepa could have been a bit spicier as well as the breakfast tacos. OUr server was wonderful and she was so happy. The coffee is fabulous.
Review Source:This place is awesome overall. Great neighborhood feel. The service is usually personable and friendly. The food is truly a hit. It's nice to know of  a neighborhood place that has such good quality. My mom is from NYC and LA, and she has told me that Shells and Sauce is her favorite restaurant she's ever been to when I've taken her there.
Review Source:I have been here numerous times and have generally had a great experience. Â The food is always good. Â The nightly specials offer a great alternative to my regular favorites.
The set up makes it tough to enjoy a cocktail before you get your table. Â Kudos to the owners as they are always busy.
Went to Shells and Sauce last night for New Years Eve dinner. When we ate here last time it was for my birthday and we did not have a good experience. However, with all of the fantastic reviews we decided to give it another shot.
We had an excellent waiter who was very personable and attentive (I apologize, I can not remember his name) and the bread and balsamic were still quite delicious; just as I had remembered. Additionally, the lobster bisque that we had as an appetizer was very good. However, our meals were underwhelming. My boyfriend had the homemade lasagna and remarked that it was a bit dry and just "okay". I had the spinach and cheese ravioli. The ravioli was alright but it had a very strange flavor that we could not identify. We also couldn't tell if it was supposed to have that flavor or if it was a mistake. For dessert we had the creme brulee; which again was not bad but wasn't great. Overall the food is okay but after giving it another shot I don't think I would dine there again; at least not for a special occasion.
A friend and I were looking for a place for a bite to eat after visiting the  "Blossoms of Lights" display at the Denver Botanic Gardens and hit upon Shells & Sauce since it is mere blocks away.  It was late enough that we were able to walk-in and be seated immediately, though the place was still pretty lively (or noisy, depending on your state of mind).  Tables were pretty cramped, and I ended-up sitting next to a drafty window so had to wear my coat throughout my meal.
It was happy hour, though our server didn't mention it until we asked. Â Wine $4.75 a glass, nothing spectacular but enjoyable nonetheless. Â We shared one of the happy hour small plates as an appetizer, then ordered entrees off of the dinner menu. Â Were I to do it over again, I think I might stick to a selection of small plates. Â Entree portions were pretty substantial, but just not that great. Â I had the wild mushroom marsala with chicken while my friend had chicken piccata. Â The marsala sauce was too salty, and apparently the picata too capery. Â We shared dessert, pumpkin cheesecake with a sort of spiced pecan sauce that the server touted. Â I appreciated that the cheesecake wasn't overly-sweet, but it was just okay. Â The best bite of the night was the small plate, though I am chagrined to admit that all I can remember is that it was a bacon-wrapped something or another.
I probably would give Shells & Sauce another try if I happened to be in the area.
We sat upstairs in the closed-in patio (which they said they open during the summer) and it was much quieter and calmer than the downstairs. The wine was price at average minimum $8 per glass but we did enjoy the glasses we chose.
They gave us a loaf of garlic bread with a balsamic dip which was very tasty. We had Kalamari as an appetizer which was good but a bit greasy. Great red dipping sauce. Then we each ordered a different one of the specials: Red Snapper with potatoes and broccolini in a lemon-pepper caper sauce, and a peppercorn-tomato soup with shrimp, clams and mussels.
The Red Snapper was very good, it had a great crusty outside! I had the seafood dish which came with a very large portion. I pulled all of the clams and mussels out of their shell first for easier access. It was my first time having clams straight out of the shell which was neat! The meal was very good. They used wide flat noodles - I think it might have been better with fettuccine-type noodles as these got a bit soggy but the shrimp, clams and mussels were very good!
We spent about $80 for app, 2 meals and 2 glasses of wine. One last bit of input - they had a very odd music selection (not necessarily bad in our opinion, although we grew up in this era) we heard "I Like Big Butts," "Jump Around" and "Master of Puppets," which was fairly unfitting for the atmosphere, but it was quiet. I would definitely recommend based on location and quality as a very acceptable impromptu meal out.
Came for dinner the other night and ordered the following:
Truffle Mac & Cheese appetizer - It was decent but needed more flavor....we felt like something was missing
Wild Mushroom and Cracked Pepper Ravioli - Very good
Potato Gnocchi - Very good
The White Out - Great drink
I would definitely come back here. The service was good and the atmosphere was very nice :)
It's been a while and I'm still a fan. Â I keep forgetting it's in Congress Park. Â It was packed on a Thursday. Â The service was okay. Â The waitress didn't seem to knowledgeable about the menu but service more than made up for it. Â Our water glasses were always full and she cocktails were always forthcoming. Â Everything on the menu sounded appealing as well as the daily specials. Â We had the a minestrone type soup, lemon cream ravioli, veal marsala [my favorite done well], and house salad. Â The bread they serve with dinner is also fabulous. Â The prices are about right for what you get, although it may be a bit pricey for the neighborhood. Â I hear they also have great happy hour specials. Â I will definitely remind myself to come back more.
Review Source:Being a good Italian boy, I'm pretty skeptical about trying Italian restaurants, even if they're right in my neighborhood. Â I've put off trying Shells & Sauce for years.
A friend visiting from Italy and I wandered in together. Â And you know what, we weren't terribly disappointed. Â At least, not like with most.
We sat at the bar and got fair to good service. Â We sampled a few things and didn't dislike them. Â Sure, it's not how we would have done things, but I wouldn't dissuade you from visiting and making your own opinions.
I do have to agree with Kelly T's review though that they've packed the tables way too close in there. Â I would not suggest visiting this place if you're claustrophobic in the least.
After having heard so many great things about this place I had very high expectations. I was not disappointed in any way. I went with friends to Sunday brunch. The place was packed! We all had the bottomless mimosas ($10), which were the best (strongest) I've ever had. Our glasses were never empty, which is no small feat when serving my friends and I (we love mimosas)!
The menu has a huge variety of dishes and I had a hard time narrowing down what to order because everything sounded so delicious. I ordered the chicken fried steak. It was out of this world! I LOVE sausage gravy and they were very generous with it. I was in heaven. The steak was tender and delicious and the accompanying hash browns were perfectly crisp.
We shared the zucchini fries and the parmesan truffle fries. Both were great.
I can't wait to back again and again to graze my way through the entire menu.
I don't know our server's name but she was phenomenal.
The ONLY reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was for the noise. It's a tiny space and its was extremely loud. I wonder if there isn't something they can do to install some sort of sound buffers.
I love the consistent flavors in sauces. It feels like garndma cooked them. It is very comforting to eat a plate of pasta at Shells and Sauce.
The grilled Stripped Bass is my favorite dish here. It is a fresh tasting, grilled to perfection entree.
It has an upbeat ambiance, it's mostly busy with a happy clamor, Â The servers are efficient and friendly. It is one of my favorite places to just go unwind. oh did i tell you about the mimosas? must try!
Loud. Â Loud loud loud. Â Vocal chords shredded, ears humming loud. Â I totally get making the most out of your small space, but tables crammed back to back, no room for you to stretch out your legs, doesn't make for a great atmosphere for dinner. Â When you're at a four top and the two people on the side of the table away from the waitress can't hear what she's saying about the specials, so you have to shout at them what she said to you, it's too loud. Â It is too loud in here.
That said, the food was pretty solid, though not exceptional. Â Two of the four of us had stuffed shells, which were good but a little sweet for my tastes. Â One of us had the special that night, which was a shrimp fettuccine. Â The shrimp were large and plentiful and the flavors were good. Â I had a steak pizza, which is on extremely thin crust and was pretty darn good. Â It could have been just a little more generously topped, but I was happy with my choice.
Service was adequate, but as I mentioned we could hardly hear her over the noise. Â What bumps this up to three stars for me is the location. Â We don't have many restaurants to choose from in my little neck of the woods here, and the fact that we have a decent Italian restaurant two blocks from my house is nice. Â I could see going again while we live here, and I could see taking people here who are visiting us from out of town, but that's more a function of proximity than anything else.
I really love this little place, and the location is awesome for Congress Park dwellers. Â I haven't had a dish that wasn't outstanding, and I highly recommend the stuffed shells for dinner. Â Brunch is awesome, as well. Â The gals next to us informed us that bloody mary's were only $3! Â
My only negative comment is that sometimes the staff seems stressed out by the volume and can get a little huffy or irritated. Â Yesterday morning my girlfriends and I had brunch and the waitress wasn't rude, but wasn't quite pleasant. Â She took our orders by memory, then directly came back to take them a second time with paper. Â Unique method. Â
Overall, great place for brunch and/or dinner, and the patio is adorable in the warmer months.
First off - brunch here is AMAZING. Not kidding. The food (funnel cake fries, breakfast skillets, biscuits and gravy...I could go on) is just damn good.
I decided to update my review because I returned to S&S for dinner the other night and was, to be honest, skeptical about returning for dinner as my first experience was not very good. I went for dinner just under a year ago and remember really struggling with the menu and finding something that sounded good to me...and after settling on a dish, was not happy and neither was my date with theirs. The food just wasn't that good. Fast forward to last weekend, I had a "deal" certificate worth $30 so we decided to give dinner another shot (after I reviewed the menu on-line to see if it had changed and I believe it did because I was actually torn on what to order this time).
I had the Bolognese and my friend had the lasagna. Both dishes were quite good (although the Bolgonese was pretty heavy on the garlic, so if you aren't a garlic-lover, this probably isn't for you) but both were still good. They started the meal with bread and a balsamic dipping sauce and both were delicious! We also got caesar salads and my biggest thing with caesar is that I don't like the anchovie taste and even without the anchovies on it, I still think it was a little too "fishy" for me. I enjoyed the croutons though :)
The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because our service, well, sucked. Our waitress had 4-5 tables and while she was very speedy to take our order, she never came back to see if I wanted another glass of wine or to refill my friend's water (although, after she dropped the check off asked her if she wanted some more water then. um, no.) Damn it bad service really ruins a meal for me. And really, it was just a good glass of wine that I really wanted another glass of! I couldn't have pushed my empty glass any closer to the edge of the table and still she didn't come by or notice.
While I did just purchase another "deal" today worth $40 there, I will most likely put it towards brunch where the service has always been great and the food as well.
We came here for dinner based on all of the positive Yelp reviews. When I checked in on Yelp a certificate for $4.50 on a glass of wine popped up on my screen. It was their happy hour pricing. When I attempted to redeem this certificate. The lady told me it was for a promotion they ran in January and it was not valid. Not a great first impression.
For an appetizer we had the brochette. It was not the best. It would have been better if the tomatoes had been riper and it was over seasoned with olives. For dinner both of us had the homemade lasagna. Very generous portion size. Flavors were average. We both felt it was "alright."
For dessert one of us had tiramisu and the other had the red velvet cake. The tiramisu alone is worth going back for another visit. Per our server it is made in house and from a family recipe. The red velvet cake was dry and lacked flavor. All in all it was "okay."
I'd heard tons about this place for months about how people are obsessed with it but had somehow never been. I went for brunch today and was impressed. The definitely have the same standard eggs and omelets fare, but also a wide variety of Italian classics that I hadn't seen at other places in the area. I had the breakfast tacos with sausage and mushrooms, and I loved them. Definitely a lot of food though, be warned--this would have been better split with two people. I took the rest home and ate it later. The side salad with pico and avo was great, too.
My friends also attacked their skillet and carbonara dishes with fervor, and our service was great. After reading all the yelp reviews about the funnel fries we had to get them and they were good, though it felt a little weird getting an appetizer that sweet for breakfast. All in all, a good experience. I'd be interested to go back for dinner.
Try not to sit to close to the kitchen as that the music they were blaring verses the music in the dining room are conflicting and frankly giving the balance between my ears a headache.... I assume that is what made my meal less than enjoyable. I really wanted to like it, as that I've heard such great things about it. The food was all right. The bread they served to begin with was good, the service was efficient. But it was all just "Meh?"
We must have been there during a shift change between brunch and lunch as that two conversations were overheard about guest and tips, not a professional atmosphere. Made it a little awkward for sure.
I might come back and give it another try, but It's going to be awhile, and someone really has to want to come here.
Highlight of the meal... the Butternut Squash Stuffed Shells, there are three to an order and if my memory serves me right that comes to about 4+ dollars a shell.
Just a heads up!
My wife and I went here for our Anniversary dinner. The manager named Oscar went out of his way to meet all of our needs and make this dinner a very special evening. I was happy to find the parking lot in the back. The atmosphere here is great.
Now to the important stuff. The food never disappoints us here. My wife had the italian seafood stew, and I had the Seabass. With both dishes, I was amazed by the balanced and delicious tasting sauces that really brought both dishes together perfectly. We also love to go here for a late night pizza which are half price after 9pm.
Great place to hangout in a laid back atmosphere with good drinks and great tasting italian!
Went here for dinner after visiting the Denver Botanical Gardens. The round bread that Shells and Sauce gives you was just so amazing! My husband and I had two of them before we got our main dishes!
I had the baked cheese ravioli in the rosa sauce and it was fantastic! I never thought I was going to eat Italian while in Denver, but I am glad I decided to. Service was good. There was always someone checking on you to see if you needed more water.
My husband had the stuffed shells with butternut squash and sweet potatoes. He loved it!
I highly recommend Shells and Sauce if you are in the mood for Italian!
Agree with a previous poster. Â I do not understand how this place gets such great reviews. Â No issues with the service, nothing that stood out though.
I had high hopes and was excited to eat here but left disappointed.
I had the crab and artichoke ravioli that was over sauced and salty. Â Husband had the pork gnocchi special and the gnocchi was chewy. Â My friend had the bland salmon on the salty piccata. Â We all passed on taking home the leftovers and dessert to avoid any further disappointment. Â With so many amazing restaurants in Denver, why would anyone go here? Â I won't be back.
I've only been to Shells and Sauce for happy hour, but it's a great happy hour!
From the name I was expecting old-school homestyle Italian, but the menu is surprisingly modern. Â It was too hot to use the rooftop patio the afternoon we went, but we were able to sit outside on their patio on the street. Â They were happy about accomodating us with a table we could add more people to if necessary, and our server was helpful and friendly.
The happy hour menu is awesome. Â All of their food and drink specials are under $5. Â Their draft beer is limited, but they have a good selection of bottles including a gluten-free beer, as well as discounted wines and well drinks. Â The food specials range from $3 sliders to $4 antipasti to $5 pizzas. Â The six-cheese pizza was delicious, and for $5, I was expecting a mini pizza, but it turned out to be a generous portion; a slice (1/4 of the pizza) was enough for a light dinner.
I would very happily go back-- there's a lot just on the happy hour menu I'd love to try (crispy crab stuffed jalapeno, anyone?!). Â If you're looking for after-work drinks and snacks somewhere other than downtown, this is a great choice.
We came in for late night pizza happy hour and for a group of 7, including a child, we were treated very well! We made reservations ahead with open table and they were waiting for us as we walked up. I usually have an amazing experience here, but last night was a bit off.
They stopped serving the duck confit pizza... this is my entire reason for being. How could the chef do this to me?! Then, we were told they had a busy Friday night (really? Busy on a Friday? Who knew?!) And they were out of bread..
I had 2 S&S virgins with me and I raved about 2 things. Bread and duck pizza. All of our dreams were dashed in one fail swoop.
Ok we redirected ourselves and ordered some pizzas. They got spinach, mushroom, truffle. I got prosciutto and riccota and THANK HEAVENS they still had the sweet balsamic reduction that went with the duck pizza. The pie was delish, super fresh, and should be served with that sauce on top.
We were offered some free samples of the soup da jour (italian beef barley) and it was not good. Really bland and overly salty.
My friend ordered wine, but it took forever to come! She also ordered a peach cobbler, but they ran out.
I love this place, and we will be back, but better planning on a weekend evening would have made this experience a far better one. And please... bring back the duck pizza!
I can't believe I live 3 blocks from this place and haven't been here!
Small place with patio seating. Â Offers a great selection of wine and dishes for happy hour and brunch on the weekends. Â Did I mention I found out they deliver?
Got the skillet dish for breakfast. Â Smothered tasty salty potatoes with chicken green chile...couldn't stop eating it. Â Maybe consumed a pound of potatoes? Â
Hubs got the egg pizza and the crust was so crunchy and thin! Â Delicious.
The funnel fries came with chocolate and rasberry jam dipping sauce. Â Although the concept and the sauces were fun, fun, fun, the fries were a bit over fried and therefore chewy.
My oh my I'm coming back again. Â
Fast service, plenty of choices, and walkable? Â Woo hoo!
Another quirky hole-in-the-wall type of place in a Denver neighborhood that you wouldn't go near 10 years ago. Â This place is warm and friendly - the service staff was extremely welcoming. Â We had the Chioppino, stuffed shells, pork chops and chicken parm and everyone loved their dishes. Â I'm taking one star off because I thought they could have done better with the Chioppino; it wasn't really firing on all cylinders.
Oh, and the bread with garlic balsamic vinaigrette was out of freaking bounds good (and strong with garlic!). Â Next time we'll do better with our reservation timing and get a spot on the rooftop patio, which I hear is great.
I LOVE Shells and Sauce! My fiancé and I went the first time right after work for Happy Hour! They had great wine specials and cheap, tasty pizzas. We went the second time for a double date during 5280 week! It was even better.
Their bread and balsamic is amazing to start! Seriously. We had an extra serving both times we went! I got the stuffed shells for my entree. Now I dream about the stuffed shells. It is one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had - vegetarian, smooth, tasty, zesty, a little creamy and every bite is interesting. I can't wait to go back - I am 100% getting the same dish! Although their nightly specials are inspired and unique...
If you're in the mood for dessert, you cannot pass up the homemade tiramisu! It is a large portion and VERY rich.
Oh! And ask for Jamie. He's a gem.
We've had the pleasure of dining here twice.
Parking is a bit of a hassle since their lot is almost always full, but it's easier (and cheaper) than parking downtown so I suppose I shouldn't complain too much. Â Waiting for a table sucks because the entrance to the restaurant has no waiting space to speak of and the bar, while large, is typically jam-packed. Â You do this awkward dance of constantly dodging diners and staff zooming about. Â Fortunately, they do take reservations (yay Opentable) and both times we were seated within a couple minutes of arriving.
They cram as many people as possible into the restaurant. Â The tables are tight and the place is bustling with waitstaff, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, go elsewhere. Â It's not oppressive, just be aware that the restaurant is energetic and vibrant.
They bring out bread (which we hear is made by the owner's mother) and tapanade. Â The tapanade. Â Mmmm. Â Yes. Â Yum. Â This delicious, rich, strong, garlic-heavy dish is not for the faint of heart or anyone on a first date, but I simply can't get enough of it. Â It sets your mouth on fire with flavor and I always find myself silently cramming bread in face, utterly ignorant of my surroundings or any of the people I am dining with. Â (Sorry, people I've dined with.)
The food is also quite good. Â The shrimp fra diavolo is STRONG. Â Like, burn your face off strong...perhaps a bit much, but it ain't called "brother devil" for nothing. Â Their meat lasagna and tortellinis with meat sauce are great dishes. Â Their cioppino looks awesome, but my wife actually didn't care for it.
Prices are reasonable, service is fast and appropriately attentive. Â I still haven't gotten to eat on their patio upstairs, which I'll definitely need to give a try soon.
I had brunch here a couple of weeks ago again and, I have to say, I still don't quite understand how this place gets such rave reviews.
First of all, this entire place seems like a fire hazard. Tables are pushed so closely to one another that some patrons literally can't get out of their seat until another party leaves or 3-4 people get up to let them out. Also, because the tables are packed so closely together, the level of noise here is just ridiculous. Forget trying to have a nice brunch with a group of girlfriends, you have to yell your conversation to half the table just to be heard.
So, maybe the drinks are good, right? Nope. My bloody mary (which took 15 minutes to get in the first place) arrived and tasted pretty watered down and was garnished with the saddest piece of asparagus ever. It was all wilted as if to say, "Why did they put me in this crummy bloody mary?"
And the servers? Well, bless their heart, they're trying, but the place is just far too understaffed to properly handle the brunch crowd. Everything took 10-15 to order or get and we had to flag our (good natured) server down anytime we wanted something.
Finally, the food. This was the grossest omelet I've ever had at a restaurant. I ordered the wild mushroom and goat cheese omelet topped with chives and truffle oil. What I got was a slab of egg with mushrooms cooked into the omelet and giant chunks of half melted goat cheese on the inside. Also, I like a little truffle oil to give stuff some flavor, but it was like they dumped a bucket of it on the omelet and it ruined any chance of me tasting anything else. I took 3 bites and stopped.
For what I paid, this place just isn't worth the visit. In fact, I would prefer IHOP to Shells & Sauce for brunch.
