Hillstone

The pressed sushi is incredible and a great departure from the traditional. The Hillstone approach to cocktails is unique and emphasizes fruit. Not for the traditionalist, but good nonetheless.

I was excited to try somewhere new and was meeting some of my fiancé's co-workers here. We were greeted and seated promptly but sat at our table for about 15 minutes without even being greeted by our server. Once our server, Kelly, greeted us we placed our drink order, which came in another 10 minutes. My drink came out wrong, I had a dirty martini that was not dirty at all but we didn't see our server for probably another 15 minutes! So 40 minutes into it, we finally placed our order. I have to say our server was very uptight and not the friendliest and on top of it, she was hard to find and oblivious to our table when we did try to wave her down. She even brought out my second drink wrong after telling her it was a dirty martini. We ended up just getting a glass of olive juice from the bar.

The food came out in a timely manner and was really good. I had the Thai tuna roll and the kale salad. I loved the kale salad! My fiancee had the ribs, which were good as well. We all shared a desert, and their fudge sauce is decadent.

The tackiest thing of the night was when we got the check and our server was the promptest she had been all night to collect the bill and her tip.

This might be a great place for a night cap, and desert, especially with the live jazz music...but cross your fingers that you get a better server than we had.

My husband and I love this place for entertaining  business contacts and out of town friends in a lively, adult atmosphere without pretention.  The ambiance lends to  conversation, although between the wonderful live jazz and chatter from the other tables, it's by no means a quiet restaurant.  

The menu is varied and nicely priced and I haven't had one thing I didn't like.   We've had no complaints from anyone we've taken here, either.  My favorite is the prime rib sandwich, but the steaks and prime rib entree are delicious.  The Thai Noodle salad is another favorite.  Took a walk on the wild side  and ordered the fish sandwich the other night and was not disappointed.  Seriously, all their food is quite nice and there is something for every taste.   The wait staff takes good care of their tables.  No complaints there,either.  Great wine pour from the bar.  

Side note, watch out for the aggressive senior set at the bar during happy hour.  One small woman nearly knocked me over rather than excuse herself or walk around to get back to her seat.  Guess the Sloe Gin Fizzes or Manhattans are just that good.
