Food was great. The service was also great.
They were very kid friendly especially after my child left a mess at the table.
It was an amazing experience and flavors.

We have tried this place 3 times. Each time we have been disappointed and we now are committed to never going back. They put Baked Lays on their "Siam Salad". Literally. Everything is overpriced and they don't offer free refills. The food also comes out in 5 minutes so I can't imagine anything is fresh. It tastes stale and old. Cambodian Thai down the street is amazing. I don't know how Siam gets away with serving such crap. And they don't have high chairs so we had to eat with our baby in our lap.

My daughter and I went for dinner with a coupon. (I had been to Siam Thai shortly
after it opened. I ordered the Pad Thai Noodles. I thought they were a little sweet.)
Our food was quite good. We got Tom Ka soup, Panang Curry and Wide rice noodles
with chicken and vegetables. The prices were rediculously high for dinner and the
restaurant interior is VERY worn out with dirty and torn carpeting. Service was good. In the end we decided we would prefer Cambodian Thai down the street for almost half the price for food
just as good. Still can't get over the prices!!

Niicest ambiance of any of the local Thai places.  However, the least impressive food, which is what is of greatest importance to this reviewer.  I would not recommend.

Great soups and curries!  The beef with Bamboo is my favorite.  A little saddened by the lack of desserts since the cheesecake shoppe next door closed down... but the fried bananas are a close second!

Extremely over-priced, mostly because of the location and the nice-dressed waitress (??). Anyway, I think if they make the price more reasonable they would attract more customers because the quality of the food and the price just don't match. Food is decent - i wouldn't say bad but I've tasted much much better Thai food than this, and of course - NO  free refill for a $2 drink.

Because I want to make this review short, I will go straight to the reasons why I give Siam Thai a low grade. I am a big fan of food in general and I have tried nearly every restaurant in town and surely all the Thai places in a very wide radius.

Here is why I do not thing Siam deserves a high mark. When comparing Siam's food with the food from other Thai places around, I can't help it but noticing how "stale" it is (though some of the dishes were not that bad). I was never able to find their food nearly as attractive and fresh tasting as what you get at Cambodian Thai for example. Secondly, everything on their menu (no exception) is clearly overpriced, and you can confirm that by just realizing the fact that the prices are not even represented in a numerical format (it took me about 5minutes to find prices in that menu). Don't get me wrong, I am always willing to pay a little extra for good food and a matching service, but in my opinion Siam Thai is not good enough for those high prices.

Alright, this place was pretty awesome to my husband and I. For being vegan and gluten free, they took the utmost care to make sure we only selected items that were not made with soy sauce or fish sauce. We greatly appreciated this. We got the Pad ka prow, and the Tofu curry. The tofu curry was the best as it was very very coconutty, which we love!!! This place really touches the heart of thai, and it SERIOUSLY has a BEAUTIFUL decor. Makes you forget that you are in downtown South Bend it is so lovely. WE loved it. Expensive? sort of....good food? absolutely....authentic? absolutely (for what we got)....ambiance? tranquil....waitress? LOVELY and helpful....vegan/gf friendly? YOU BET!

Hey Josh F.: No chopsticks because this is a Thai place--not Chinese!!  Did mommy teach you to use a fork--or, is she afraid that your surly attitude would make you hurt yourself??  Good variety; the wait staff has always been very attentive.  Been going here for years. My guests have always liked the place. Sure, it's not Bankok--but even Siam isn't Siam any more!!

I've probably eaten here a dozen times. I often bring family and friends from out of town. Everyone I have ever brought really, really liked it. It is a bit more "Americanized" than the other two good south bend thai restaurants -- Bangkok and Cambodian Thai. However, the flavors are always spot on and the food is always cooked perfectly.

One thing it has on the other thai restaurants in town is atmosphere. The dining room is small, but very nicely appointed and the wine list is pretty decent. One thing that annoys me is that they charge for refills on soft drinks, ugh.

You'll find pretty good food here, fairly standard Thai fare. The prices are higher than most other Thai places, both locally and even in Chicago. The decor is more modern than most spots, so perhaps you're paying for the location, look, and closer access to the bathroom (which is a detriment to the current location of the other Thai spot a few blocks away).

I have been to Siam three times and have not been happy with the medioche thai at best and small over price portions.

I was happy when CAMBODIAN THAI opend in South Bend. That is real and outstanding thai food... SO GOOD i HAVE SEEN THE OWNER OF SIAM AND NOMA AND HIS COOKS EATING AT "CAMBODIAN THAI"!!!  I have seen him eating there more than a few times and I don't blame him.

Well, I was honestly hesitant about coming here...the reviews had almost scared me off. I thought I might be able find somewhere other than a mediocre Thai spot, with spotty service.
Walking in the ambiance struck me a more gallery-esq, with it's bright light colored decod, and focal hanging artwork. It was an earlier dinner (5:30), but I had work later...about 4 tables were occupied. The music was new age, and a bit loud for my liking, but I was by myself...so what did I care. The menus were elegant, and offered a nice variety of dishes. The addition tea menu was nice as well, but I was in the mood for wine, and they had a refreshing Reisling. I started off with a tofu tod (fried tofu, with a spicy sauce), which was quite nice...BUT! No chopsticks!?!? I couldn't really understand. Seemed very odd. Either way, the tofu was decent, not the best but certainly not the worst. The food came out quickly,my entree was the tofu curry, with veg in a spicy red sauce. I liked the fact that I could add extra veg, and I got spicy when I asked for it. The dish was good, everthing tasted very fresh...but damn if the lack of chopsticks didn't throw my whole normal Thai eating habits off. The service post ordering was standoff-ish, I knew they were there if I needed anything, but I wasn't hounded either...which I personally enjoy. Some patrons, who require constant handholding and reassurance might take issue with this. Only suggestion is to maybe not try to be such an upscale type of spot, if you're not going to carry the food/service quality level right up along with it. Oh, and get some damn chopsticks! Shit, I even get chopsticks with my $20 rolls at Morimoto's in NYC ;)

Siam is such a poorly run place that it has prodded me into writing my first ever Yelp review!

This is the kind of place where, if you ask for your $2 no-refill iced tea without ice, they bring it to you 3/4 full. This has actually happened to me.

Years ago, I got a hair in my food, pulled it out, and flicked it on the ground. I asked for a new meal and they wouldn't give it to me because I couldn't prove there was a hair in my food.

For a while, in 2009, my family got take out from Siam about once a week. On average, they messed up our carryout order (either by omission or addition) 1 of 2 times. Because their receipts aren't itemized, and they give you your food in stapled-shut brown paper bags, you usually don't discover until you get home. They refuse to give you a refund unless you drive back that same night, return the food, and give them your credit card. This happened to me last night.

This wouldn't be surprising or egregious at a cheap Chinese joint, but here you pay $60 for four (usually cold) entrees and an order of egg rolls. If this sounds like fun to you, have at it, otherwise, consider yourself warned!

The food is certainly okay.  Basically fresh, nothing exciting but not bad.  John S. says it quite well below.  If this restaurant were anywhere but South Bend, I'd probably never go back.

    Drawbacks include:

Short hours.  It closes at 9, I think.  Once I arrived at 8:40 and they didn't let me in even for take-out.   This was really annoying.

The owner often has a surly and arrogant attitude.

The tables are kind of close together, and the space is pretty small, which means you may well run into one of your co-workers and be seated 5 feet away from them.  For an hour.  :(

This is the one of the only two thai places in south bend. It's a pretty popular place, with some okay thai. They also serve a wide variety of tea and serve cheesecake made from next door. Beware that it's closed until 5pm on saturdays.. I tried for lunch and it was closed.

When I lived in South Bend, people used to swear by this place.  I avoided it for a long time because I knew I would be disappointed.  When I eventually did come here, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as awful as I assumed it would be.  You can find much better Thai food out there--maybe not in Michiana--but this place does the regular stuff OK.

If you're bringing someone who is from a place with great Thai restaurants, prepare to get an earful.  But if you're bringing someone who has never tried Thai food, this might be a good primer.

Pretty good dishes, though a bit bland and somewhat Americanized. To be sure, there are many dishes that I have not had, and their attempt to present a classy atmosphere is well appreciated, but falls a bit short, much like other Asian culture restaurants under foreign born ownership.

Friends and I highly recommend Cambodian Thai on Michigan as an alternative, which I feel has a much more flavorful and authentic taste.

The food here is way overpriced for the quality and quantity. The dominant flavor is soy sauce, the annoyingly common faux pas at inferior Chinese/Japanese/ Thai/Korean restaurants. I wish I could offer an alternative local Thai place for you to try instead, but I'm still searching myself.

Very good food.  Healthy alternative.  Quick lunch.  Intimate dinners.
