A nice little gem for the hungover and broke college student.  Located smack-dab in the middle of a student housing neighborhood, it serves breakfast well into the afternoon on the weekends.  I keep hearing about the Mexican breakfasts... unfortunately, the reviews I get from friends are so mixed I've yet to bite the bullet and try one.  That said, the standard diner fare (scrambles, skillets in particular) is pretty decent and very affordable.  Nothing extraordinary, but hitting it up while doing the Walk of Shame on the way back to campus might be worth it by way of hangover palliative care.

I lived near here and wondered what this place was like. It looks like it was once a buffet place since it is set up with one, but now it is run by a Mexican family as a diner. Now, I walked in and saw a lot of senior citizens and workers from the nearby hospitals eating eggs so I thought - so far so good.

Well, I was happy when I saw that they had Mexican breakfasts! Wow!  This was a mistake. It took 10 minutes or more for my food to come and there were almost no people in this place. When it came my Juevos a-la-Mexicana were so hot and soupy I almost sent them back, but was not in a fighting mood. The mess of slop they served was just too hot to eat, and we are not talking about something that tastes good and is hot. It was the worst Juevos a-la Mexicana I have had in my life and I have had these in Texas, Mexico, California, Illinois, and in South Bend and was always happy in the past. Gross. With the virgin of Guadalupe poster and the other Mexican stuff on the walls I thought the Mexican plates would be great -- wrong.

If you go here, stick to the simple southern stuff. The Mexican cooks here don't know how to cook Mexican food!

I will stick to Taqueria Chicago for breakfasts and to Nick's Patio for diner food.
