Great food. This is real Latin American food with a twist, as opposed to the average Mexican restaurant. The Chilean top round is superb. Make sure you try the chili infused rice. The still-not-great part is the service. It is weak. I will give it a higher review if by the next time I am in South Bend, service improves.
Review Source:A coworker and I were in downtown South Bend today and it was surprisingly difficult to find a place for lunch! Â We tried the new Ciao's (apparently not open for lunch) followed by Trio's (apparently stopped doing lunch a couple weeks ago!). Â Sangria's happened to be the only open place on the block.
We walked in and were greeted right away (we were the ONLY folks) in the place! Â It had been awhile since I'd been to Sangria's and I have so say I was previously turned off by the confusion between Sangria's, Agave, etc and there seemed to be a lot of inconsistencies and wasn't worth the confusion.
Anyways, on to today's lunch... Â We received fresh chips and salsa, which were both good. Â The salsa was fresh and flavorful. Â We were told it was Taco Tuesday - 5 mini tacos with your choice of shredded chicken, grilled chicken, ground beef, steak or pork. Â We both opted for the shredded chicken. Â The tacos are served American style with lettuce, cheese and tomato or Mexican with cilantro and onion. Â The entrees come with a complimentary soup which was vegetable and rice (very subtle flavorful, but a nice soup).
It didn't take long for our meals to come out since we were the only ones in the place! Â The tacos were good. Â Each taco was served in a small, double corn tortilla - one tortilla per taco would be enough. Â The chicken was a little bland and dry, but the additional of salsa helped.
Our lunch for two people was $10 - can't beat the price and we left curious to try the other daily lunch specials.
A few other tables were seated right when we finished eating so it took longer than necessary to clear our dishes and bring the check.
I admit that today's visit to Sangria's was better than anticipated and I would go back!
