Most of the food is pretty good pub grub. Drinks are overpriced, especially for these days.

This place has the best bar scene in Hockessin. They are always open until 1am and always have food available until they close with a decent bar food menu. The bartenders are great. They know their customers by name and make decent mixed drinks. I do however wish they would change their menu. The meals are decent but nothing special and a bit pricey. The servers are decent but could be a bit more attentive for a classy place. The parking lot is always full of BMWs and Mercedes and this place attracts the classier people from the area. They are family friendly. But there just isn't anything that stands out as a good meal from their menu. I even forget what I had. They seem to specialize in chorizo sausage and have 4 meals on the menu with it as the main ingredient. It would be nice if they changed it and added some healthier choices. I had the spinach salad and it was tasty but kind of small.

So I would give them 5 stars for the bar and great bartenders but 2 stars for the food, not that the food was ever bad, just not anything special and I'm looking for more unique food at classier and more expensive places.

My sister and I took our mom out here for a low-key, but still nice, Mother's Day dinner.    When we walked in there were only a few tables occupied by other guests and plenty of staff on for the amount of guests in the restaurant.  The interior and the atmosphere inside was very nice and comfortable.  So we were seated right away at a nice booth and after a few minutes our server came over to ask us for our drinks.
For the meal, we ordered two appetizers, the tuna bites and one of their flat breads.  both were very good and everyone was pleased.  Our entrees were all delicious as well, but nothing extremely outstanding.  We each got a dessert and either coffee or tea at the end of the meal.  Overall, we really enjoyed all of our food, even had to box some up and take it home because we were so stuffed.
However, the service there was a little annoying.  We had a waitress, I wish I remembered her name, but she seemed like she was in a rush the entire time even though she only had three or four tables.  Each time she flitted by our table it was only for a few seconds and she spoke a mile a minute.  That threw off our whole vibe at dinner to the point where, at times, she would walk away and we were all sitting there with a confused look on our face and we had to digest what we just heard.  The girl seemed very nice, she just seemed frazzled all the time.  I was surprised she didn't make any mistakes at the pace she was going.

But, again, overall it was a nice meal, and the three of us eventually just started to tune out our waitress and enjoy our own company.

Oh, I forgot one odd thing that we encountered.  Two of the entrees that my mom ordered were out of stock.  One of which was a special, which is understandable because there is only limited supply of special dishes.  The other, however, was the lobster lasagna, which was a regular menu entree.  This struck me as extremely off because if there is an entree on your regular menu, you should always have plenty of it and the kitchen should always be prepared for anyone to order any entree off of their regular menu.

We have been here a few times.  The beer list is decent.  They have an ok selection on draft and by bottle.  It always seems to be crowded in the bar for happy hour.  On our last visit, we split the crab nachos.  They seemed to have a little less crab this time, but the portion was good and the flavors are nice.
We split the fish and chips.  We figured it would be enough for two.....think again.  Only two strips of fish, literally 6 fries and two tiny stacks of coleslaw.  Pretty pathetic proportion.  The food had good taste though.
Also, as a gripe, they have had the ahi tuna burger on the menu for a while even though they don't offer it anymore.  Print new menus please!!

Good evening spent here.  Never heard of this place and went there at the last minute to meet a good friend for dinner and drinks. The atmosphere is very appealing- very open and large bar area with a few communal tables.  Large dining room area, too.  Good, pub style menu.  Happy with all apps we ordered (beef eggrolls, crab and artichoke dip, calamari). Good beer selection, attentive waitress (who quickly cleaned up a pint of beer that spilled on our table w/i 10 minutes of arriving).  CLEAN bathroom.  If I lived around there, I would definitely give this place another shot.

Stopped by for lunch on a sunny Sunday and sat outside. I had the Reuben and GF had the pulled pork.  The pork was flavorful and tender with out being gloppy with sauce.  The corned beef on the Reuben was tender, and it had a schmear of dressing, not dripping in sauce.  Its not a gastro pub, but the prices and quality of the offerings certainly make a worthwhile stop.  I'll go back.

I've always enjoyed coming here for lunch or dinner when I'm in town to visit my parents. The late-night drinking crowd is a bit of a different story, but overall the service is impeccable. We had our rehearsal dinner here as well for our wedding several years ago and Steve was just simply amazing at making our event perfect for us.

Bad food, bad service. There are lots of great restaurants in the area, this is not one of them.

Pretty mediocre food and overpriced for what you get. Not that there are many fine dining establishments in Hockessin. And the crowds a weird mix of a meat market crowd at the bar and families with one to many children trying to get what they figure is upscale cuisine in the restarant. I think I'll pass...twice!

Paupers rarely disappoints, with good -often excellent - food, friendly atmosphere, helpful and  efficient bar staff. The place is busy now, given the beach season is over but everyone works to make it work! We like it and have become regulars.

I have had the food here once, but to be honest it was entirely forgettable.  They do have the chicken Nixon, that I love, from Dead Presidents.  Unfortunately, not even an old favorite is enough to raise the rating of this place.

Other reviewers have commented on the strange vibe in this place.  There is no question, this place is strange.  I believe the aura everyone is feeling at this bar is desperation.  It is a little sad. I think these people actually believe they are on the cutting edge of cool, but it comes off all wrong.

I've really really really tried to like this place.  Really, I have.  But the service sucks, the food is boring, and the atmosphere is strange- the Hockessin bar crowd consists mainly of cougars and upper middle class 50 year old white dudes who think they're attractive to girls in their twenties but remind us more of our parent's friends.  Have been here several times in the past several years and am realizing now that we end up there if we're in the area as there aren't too many choices out there...

Decent place to go and chill but if your under 30 beware of cougars and Tunas. Also a bit over priced.

A decent resto-pub for the suburbs.  Opened by the former owners of the much cooler Dead Presidents Pub in downtown Wilmington, Six Paupers is located on the main thoroughfare that runs through the 'village' of Hockessin.

The inside is beautiful, warm with dark mahogany wood paneling, etched glass and the centerpiece: a massive oval bar with ample seating.   The dining room and outdoor patio is almost an afterthought.  Menu is your standard attempt at modern gastropub dining with inventive appetizers (ahi tuna bites, crab nachos) and standard main course fare (N.Y. strip, chicken, Mushroom ravioli)

The kitchen can be hit or miss - nothing I've ever eaten here has been memorable, but it is a safe bet for a casual lunch or dinner if you're in the area.

Otherwise, this place is ripe for the drinking. Service is affable, quick, friendly and ready to serve your poison of choice,  along with a sizeable beer and drink menu from which to choose from.

Maybe it's me. Maybe it's me and my postpartum figure and not feeling so sexy and not really into getting SO WASTED. Maybe it's that I didn't know anyone, besides my husband and our brothers.

But dude, I didn't like the vibe down at this place. It was kinda meat-markety, and the dudes were kinda leery (even at my post partum figure, hey now!). It's just MEH. I guess I'll go back, if someone makes me. I suppose it would be fun if we had a table and were getting food and stuff. It was just MEH.
