very good for a little hole in the wall place. Favorite spot to go for lunch, even though I work closer to silk road chinese restaurant (silk road sucks).

    pretty cheap too

I work in the loop and went there for lunch today. I got the mongolian beef lunch special. The cashier said my balance was $8.20. When I got back to my office and looked at my receipt I saw she charged me $9.12.

I just started a new job in the area and was looking for a quick place where I could get some food and get back to my desk. The line here looks intimidating at first but it does move quickly. I was in and out in about 5 mins during the lunch hour.

I ordered the broccoli and chicken on noodles and paid about $7 - no egg roll or drink included. I ended up throwing half of it away - grr. I actually threw it away in a trash can away from my desk so I wouldn't have to smell it all afternoon - queasy stomach :(

Very salty... 15 mins after eating & I already had a migraine. I haven't had one in about a year. Gee thanks! I think it's the noodles that did me in.

Speaking of which, the noodles were not what I was expecting. They had some sort of greasy sauce and a meat in it. I'm not sure if it was beef or pork. They are also more expensive than the white rice and fried rice.

Maybe I'll go back for a crab rangoon one day but no entrees for me :(

This is the place for your cheap, salty, MSG ridden fix of Chinese Food.

It's bad, but oh so good.

They serve you enough to feed an entire Chinese family in one lunch special.

    Sewen dolla.

I just purchased a Groupon Now discount voucher and will be going here for lunch today. I hope its tasty, Yelp has so many mixed reviews on here.  I was going to order online and just walk in for pick-up, but decided I want to see the food in the heating / steam tables to check for freshness. I don't want mine bagged up waiting at 11 am for a 12 noon order.

     I will report back afterwards.

12:19 pm - just returned from my break...

I ordered Crab Ragoon and an Egg Roll.  Yes, the food is salty.  It overwhelmed my tongue as I chewed the rangoon.

Decently filled with the Cream Cheese/Crabmeat mixture. But sorta pricey at $1+ each. Most places I have seen them for like 6 ragoon pcs for $5 (84 cents each).  The eggroll was crispy fried and standard pricing at $1.10 each.

Overall, I would say its ok.  Not a "super wow, I have to go back".

But if I was in the area and was hungry, I would stop in again. The food was hot and the steam table was filled (like Panda Express).  Entrees are a bit pricey......the Orange Chicken (medium size) and Chicken fried rice meal was $6.98, no eggroll or drink was included.

Not the best Chinese Restaurant that i have ever been too. The food is never fresh and is slightly overpriced compared to other locations. I had gotten the orange chicken and it was nothing like the orange chicken that i have had in the past. I also do not like how they just put the sauce over the chicken. They should cook the chicken with the sauce so it sticks and adds flavor to the chicken. I will go again though and try something else, just to see if it was just a one time deal.

So if you know anything about the loop, you know pickins are slim for a quick bite at a reasonable price. I wanted something quick, to-go, and not Jimmy John's.. what does that leave 65 Chinese Restaurant.

A bit daunting when you walk in because they have that big old school board with their offerings, then they have the buffet (tell the servers what you want), and then they have some prices on the windows.. There is a LOT going on.

However, I took a chance and ordered. I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the food, price, and portions. It's def lunch and leftovers.  Would I go outta my way to get back, absolutely not. But ehh if I am in the area, sure!

I'm over this place; it seems to deteriorate each time.  The portions get smaller and smaller and its never fresh.

Its pretty expensive as well.  For about $9 you dont get fortune cookie, vegetables, egg roll or anything, just chicken and rice.

Also, I have some concerns about the cleanliness.  I dislike when the cashier who handles money from people off the streets serves your food.  Also, there was a person peeling green beens at a table around people coughing and sneezing and they were not wearing gloves.

    Eat elsewhere.

This place is quickly becoming my lunch time addiction.  For about $7 they give me (what I'd estimate to be) about a pound in a half of chicken, beef or shrimp fried rice. Despite being my lunch time addiction, it's also somewhat of a dining enigma, in my case. The food is only slightly above average, yet I have craved it almost daily for the last month.

The (usually) long line moves quickly and it's one of the few places in the loop were you can feed 2 people for less than $10. So go ahead an try one of the best values on Madison Street.

A really nice joint for good and cheap chinese food.Since it's right next to my office so I stop here couple of times. The Chicken fried rice is really nice and kun pao chicken is great too.
The offer very big portions.Have to try the breakfast menu yet.

Not to forget all year round smoothies(I simply love them).

Now serving breakfast  until 11am! And maybe even after, as I went at 11 once and they still served me their breakfast pork and preserved egg congee, which is awesomely flavored!

I don't know any other chinese place in the loop serving breakfast...

A 4 star because they have excellent barbequed pork (coming from someone who typically does not eat pork), not your mama's chicken eggplant and Kung Pao Chicken.  Large portions, more like 2 meals.  Inexpensive & fresh.

You get your choice of white rice, fried rice or noodles + 1 entree for lunch.  They have over 12 main entrees.  Also egg rolls, crab rangoons and other yummies.  Bonus: they sell canned Coconut Water and Asian Tea, brilliant!

This place is not frilly, trendy or sexy.  Just good food!

I'm always a fan of delicious and quick Chinese food, and this is exactly what you will find here. I had the singapore noodles. Yummie! Service is extremely fast, so do not be afraid of the long lines that you see here because they move quick.  There is some seating inside if you decide to sit and eat.  They have free water too if you dont want to buy a drink. Overall, a good meal for lunch at an affordable price!

Let's be honest. We've all been in this situation. It's lunchtime. You have a cute little brown bag lunch from home. It's full of healthy snacks and a tuna salad. It's soooo good for you. But do you REALLY want to eat a tuna salad? Does the thought of plain celery sticks make your mouth water? Really? REALLLLLLYYYY???

    Yeah didn't think so.

When you're craving something that will taste like nasty heaven in your mouth and make your thighs scream in horror, there is nothing, NOTHING like Chinese food.

And Sixty-Five Chinese happens to do it quite well. It's not gourmet, but who needs dainty orange chicken? Not me! (Actually I don't usually get orange chicken 'cause it's not spicy. But it sounded good for the purposes of this review. Go with it.)

It's fast, it's cheap, they give you a seriously MASSIVE amount of food, and it's pretty darn delicious (for cheap Chinese).

So when tuna doesn't float your boat, sail on over to China and....sorry that was truly awful. Basically when you would kill your mother for something fatty, consider Sixty-Five.

CHINESE PEOPLE EAT HERE... 'NUFF SAID.

65 is one of my guilty pleasures. When I want a quick, greasy, infinitely satisfying Chinese fast food lunch there's no place better.  They have gweilo favorites for the sweet 'n sour crowd, but they also have authentic dishes like chicken eggplant, Singapore rice noodles, and salt and pepper spare ribs.

The portions are massive so put on yer eatin' dress.

    Yum City!

Don't be distracted by the old fashioned wedding cakes in the window.  65 Chinese is the spot for cheap & satisfying Styrofoam-tray style Chinese food.

Its inexpensive and tastes good. So its worth the after meal bloat.

    YUM and CHEAP.

They serve small and large sizes of their dishes, but even the small is plenty.

BBQ pork noodles, chicken fried rice, 2 crab rangoon, 2 ham and egg buns, 2 bbq pork buns (NO GOOD, took a bite of one and threw them away), 1 pint of egg drop soup, and 2 sodas = $25.

Right. It is a cafeteria style situation. But it is probably your least expensive most chill option in this area. And the custom cake displays are a lot of fun. Basic lunch is $6-$8. Extra for a drink.
The beef and broccoli and the mongolian beef are winners.

Come for the cheap and pretty tasty Chinese food and stay for the ridiculous wedding cakes.

I went here a few days ago after what I thought would be the main lunch rush time and it was packed. We still were able to get our food quickly (Beef Pepper Steak) and got a table with no problem.

Good for lunch in the Loop. Their sister location over on Michigan Ave is pretty much the same fare, including the fabulous oversized wedding cake from the 1970s in the window.

As far as cheap Chinese food goes this place is great .  The serving sizes are huge and the food is classic and delicious.  The one thing I can't get over is why they also make wedding cakes.  Who is out there planning a wedding that goes "oooo we should have 65 Chinese do our wedding cake, and we can get take out!".  I mean seriously how can you have a classy wedding with a 65 Chinese cake?

Other than that just good to eat lunch in the loop.

Yes I'm a fan! When you're in a doo doo mood, your stomach is growling and good ole greasy cheap chinese sounds good for comfort, this is it. A chinese place that has chicken nuggets on the menu?? I'm so there!!! Now they just need to serve french fries and fried donuts rolled in sugar. Yeah.. you know those places.

Um their online menu ain't that helpful, with no prices listed on a lot of their menu items and no description. So I found myself saying, In case there are bean sprouts in it, I DON'T WANT ANY in mine please. Thanks. All in all, a good guilty pleasure type of chinese place. I like.

So okay.......I actually went to this place in the rain yesterday for lunch and to pick up a cake.....LMAO....Don't laugh  the cake was GGGGGOOODDDD Yes Sir~ It was a cheesecake batter cake with fresh strawberrys and whip cream topping....I know ladies its a dream right!

Well outside of the two huge slices of cakeI snuck from the going away party for one of my coworkers the portions there were falling out of the container literally all for 5.00.....the food as many said is greasy, so of course I would recommend this place for a hangovers haven but not just on any "normal" day unless you and about two other coworkers plan to share and have a GREAT urge to eat asian that day.

Panda on steroids!  This place is tasty.  I feel like I need my stomach pumped at least twice in order to feel somewhat decent after walking out of this place.  The lo-mein was very tasty as was the orange chicken.  The BBQ pork looked awesome.  I have to disagree with a lot of your reviews, if you like Chinese food this is not nasty.  This is definitely not healthy, but it's tasty good Chinese.

*Oh forgot to mention they make wedding cakes.  :)  How many Chinese places make wedding cakes?!?

**I think I almost died midway through this review trying to digest the food, but it would have been a good death.

one has to draw the limit on the cheap lunch options in the loop.
    my line cross Sixty Five.
the price is cheap, thats for sure, the quantity is decent also...
    but the flavor? oh-god-please-oh-help-me-god.
    no more.

I roamed downtown one October lunch hour and somehow came across Sixty Five. It looked queer. It ignited immediate suspicion in my head and my tummy. But I ducked in anyway.

It's a crappy Chinese place catering to the lunch hour crowd. They give you a styrofoam container that weighs more than a baby's head full of grease-dripping food. I got the General Tso's. Or Orange Chicken. Something breaded. I was only able to eat about a quarter of it, and I pitched the rest. First of all, I was not hulking it back to the office. And secondly, I didn't want to risk the explosion of my stomach.

    Two stars for cheapness, though.

    Soooo Full...

This place gives you your money's worth that's for sure! I ordered the Eggplant Chicken. I believe the Styrofoam container may have weighed 5lbs. Now, since it was absolutly awesome...i ate about 3/4s of it. So if my math is correct, I have immediately gained 3.75lbs of tasty eggplant and white rice.

Its a great loop lunch spot because the lines move quickly, you have 5lbs of hot yummy chinese right away, and there is usually somewhere to sit ( although seating can be tight) Not to mention, all this food and a can of Diet Coke cost me $6 and some change.

Now that i think of it, it was probably pointless for me to have gotten a DIET coke...Oh but such is life. :)

    Fast! Cheap! Food! MSG!

Ok I dont know about MSG content I just felt like using another exclamation point.

I get a craving for a pink plastic bag full of heavy heavy goodness sometimes. I always feel way too full after I eat it and regret eating so much in the middle of the day but I do it anyway. About once a month.

Things I love: crab rangoon, Sweet n Sour Chix and the Orange Chix. So good. I wish they made a smaller portion though.

Also, oddly enough, if you want a big fancy cake made, they seem to be the people to do it.  Staircases and everything.

I didn't like the food. Huge portions for your $ to be sure, but really not THAT great a deal, especially considering what you're getting.

Service was fine; nothing awful, nothing great. I made the mistake of getting the orange chicken without really looking at the setup; it's the same chicken they use for the sweet and sour chicken with the same inoffensive tempura, just with a gloppy, sickly-sweet faintly orange sauce slopped on top. The fried rice I got had little bits of spongy tofu in it (yuck) and the long bean sprouts kinda resembled tape worms...and once I got that idea in my head, it was all over.

    Unappetizing.

Our company used them to cater an event we had and while the food was good, it wasn't spectacular. The rice was good, and their crab rangoon thingies were ok.

Big disappointment: eggrolls. Everyone kept talking about how this place had killer eggrolls. The only thing killer was the pain in my stomach -- the hunger, after not having finished the unsatisfactory eggroll.

All in all, decent. I'd probably have it again, but I'd def. try to find something better first. If all else fails, this food IS edible and some of it is pretty decent.

I went on a mission for some scrumptious Chinese food and instead found a Styrofoam container of artery clogging mish-mosh.

I ordered the chow fun and was not aware that it came with a side of noodles.  Would you like noodles with your noodles?  Er?  I mean, I wasn't even given an option!  Boo.

The staff was very friendly, the service was so quick it was ridiculous, but overall, I was disappointed with the quality of the food.  It was absurdly greasy and it seemed to be lacking any ingredients other than the aforementioned noodles.

I think to be fair, I'll need to revisit and try something else.  But really, Ray is right about the portion size - I got the medium (which I guess is the smallest) and still had to chuck about half a container of stuff when all was said and done.  I'm not a waster, but again, see my gripe about their apparent over-noodling!

For the price, it's edible, and they give you a lot of food. That's about all I can say about this place. Their food is horrendously Americanized, but I suppose that's something they'd have to do.

My biggest issue with this place is that their foods are incredibly salty. Do they get kickbacks from cardiologists?

I'd come here again, but I wouldn't eat it all. I'd probably get water instead of soda, too, just to cut down on my sodium intake.

Sixty-five Chinese is the definition of quantity over quality.  It's a hobo's dream! When I worked nearby and had so little money that I was living on a friend's couch, I ate here almost every day.  (Shortening my life by many years.)  If you like to eat and cry at the same time, 65 is for you!

Item!  The multitiered cake in the window is my favorite piece of public art in Chicago.

4.5 stars for the BBQ Pork [fried] rice.  Man I love this stuff.  Overall 3.5 stars for restaurant overall and the other food, it's decent but nothing special.  It's semi-authentic but a bit too much MSG.

Hint: They automatically assume you're a mortal and give u the small size which is huge for most people.  If you get the large you definitely have enough for two meals.  The large is a GREAT VALUE!

I'm sitting here eating my pork fried rice at 4:23 pm right now (early dinner since I'm working late) thinking about this great deal.  I lucked out going at 4:00pm and she emptied the whole rest of the container into my large container.  She had trouble closing it, I know I have at least 3 pounds of food.  She kept snickering and giggling like an infatuated school girl while filling my huge container.  Man this stuff is so delicious, their BBQ pork is top-notch.  I'm eating this despite knowing that there is MSG, a neurotoxin.  My tongue has already gone numb from eating so much MSG but it's so good.

Yay for places that serve you food with women giggling like infatuated schoolgirls with gah-gah eyes.

ordered in from here at work, so not sure which location, think it was this one.  Hot and Sour soup was quite hot and chunk full of goodies, shrimp dumplings had good sized pieces of shrimp, crab rangoon had plenty of cream cheese, and the shrimp in lobster sauce was enough to last me for 3 dinners and 1 lunch! Not as good as NY chinese food, but some of the better chinese food I have had in Chicago.

    4p.m.
I'd heard many great things about 65, i.e. big portions, cheap prices, fresh ingredients etc.  So I thought I'd check it out.
On entering, seeing the menu up on the board is very overwhelming.  There are many options, it's a big huge intimidating grid, its quite complicated looking, ordering shouldn't be that complicated.  Any portion is enormous, medium is A LOT of food, so be wary.
I had a medium combo, Garlic Chicken served over noodles with, a (side) BBQ Pork bun (Bao) and a regular fountain drink.  $7.99 with tax.
The carton was filled to the brim with noodles and chicken, you could really feel the weight.  I was surprised they gave such an amount.  The noodles were alike ramen noodles, almost dry sauted in soy sauce and tossed with bbq pork.  The Garlic chicken tossed with cabbage and marinated.
    The Suck:
BBQ Pork Bun ($1.25), small in size,  lots of sticky bun, but little or no BBQ pork! Not even enough for a taste, just enough to see the color and a few shreds of pork.
Garlic Chicken wasn't tasty, it was just, there.  The cabbage was soo soggy and the look was just tired.  The noodles were the worst looking of all, it looked as if it sat under heat lamps all day and maybe some of last night.  They didn't taste fresh at all.
While eating I wondered if some dude mixed up a bunch of ramen noodles with soy sauce and chopped bbq pork pieces last evening or even the morning before.
Can't say my stomach felt too great afterwards.
The following day, my co-worker wanted some Chinese food and I found myself being led back, once again.  Mainly, because of the price, amount of food and distance.
This time I had chicken fried rice with Tomato Steak.  On approach I saw that they were cleaning out the service area so the food was coming straight from the kitchen.  This time the taste was much better. So I am assuming that if I was eating lunch around noon like most people, then the taste and freshness would be greater.  I had an egg roll also and this time just water.  Water is provided for free with all the condiments, napkins, chop sticks, etc.  Meal $ 8.78.  Egg roll was about 3-4 inches long, pretty good for fast food Chinese.
I say, eat here early.. otherwise you may have to suffer bad stomach from having day old meals.

Good chinese food in the loop at reasonable prices. No complaints but for some reason the union station locaiton seemed to have better portions.
All in all, nothing exotic, but sometimes simple, unchallenging Chinese food is all that you are hungry for.

It's the only Chinese restaurant I know of in the immediate vicinity of  work, literally a half block down.  Honestly, this is the probably the biggest reason I visit.

There food isn't horrible, but nothing to rave about.  At times bland and lacking flavor.  I think they do so well because they have humongous portions, definitely enough to feed you 2-3 times.  With rice or noodles and one main entree, it's roughly $6.  I have to agree w/ those who commented on the grease factor.

Again, not my favorite but when I get those pangs for Chinese while at work, it's one of the few places I can run in and get a quick bite.
