Food is fine. Service is awful. VERY slow lunch service. They got our order wrong and then argued with me about it.

We eat at Soho 33 at least once a week.
For lunch, the salmon wrap is outstanding.
For appetizers,  the crusted Mozzarella and arugula salad are our favorites   The amazing 5 spice crusted salmon and yellowfin tuna are dinner entrees  that shouldn't be missed   The service is friendly and the owner is quite entertaining

We were disappointed in the service. My wife is vegetarian and she was given bacon. The waffles were store bought and the maple syrup was table syrup.

The Gemilli pasta was delicious and so was the Asiago chicken dish. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'll be coming back. Very nice restaurant.

Six of us had dinner there last Saturday night. Despite being crowded our food was delivered on time, hot, and just right. Met the owner who was very gracious and on top of things. Highly recommended

Unfortunately they were out of Arugula, so there went tasting the recommended Arugula Salad.  I agree with the other posts, the staff was inattentive.  It was half hour between the time we were given menu's to the time they took our order.

The Calamari was indeed over salted as mentioned in another review, but the sauce was a treat.

The Chicken Savoy Special rang the bell at $24.  The surprisingly small portion  was served with 3 small pieces of limp broccoli and a scoop of mashed potatoes. The Balsamic Reduction, didn't quite make it.  Definitely not a "Special".

If it wasn't so pricey, I wouldn't be so critical.  I usually am generous with my Stars,

Maybe it was an off night.  As for me, I won't say it was bad, but I won't be rushing back.

Server/hostess to me and my 3 yr old were the highlight. I am a fan of food and not too concerned re price if it's good. But my calamari salad - while full of literally dozens of fried calamari- was salted an inch past its life. Son's kid's meal was also way oversalted, and since it was fries and chicken fingers, that's saying something.  Would love to recommend local but the prices were high for this quality of food.

Great quality food.  Rating for their food only.  Decor would be a 2.

Arugula salad - I really can't have enough of it.  The roasted pears & the candied walnuts really pair well with the blue cheese (and I am not typically a blue cheese fan). Perfect for a light entree.

The cavitelli is superb as well.  I wish I can bring home the sauce.

I will certainly return again.  Maybe for brunch.

Very friendly in the little town of Madison NJ. Had egg white souffle Sunday brunch, duck spring roll, and Caesar salad. The food was okay.

We are total fans of this place!  The Five Spice Salmon dish is unreal.  Consistently excellent food with the help to match.  Highly recommended.

Wandered in and was pleasantly surprised, especially by the food. The salads are awesome, and the pasta was pretty good. Soup portion is huge (just in case you think it's appetizer size :P)
Service was pretty good. It's a busy lunch place, and depending on who's seated next to you, it may get a little loud for your pleasure.

My friend Angel makes what is thought by many to be the world's best salad.  Other than lettuce, scallions, and radish, I really don't know what she puts in it... but for once, people go back for seconds of the greens rather than the meats.

So I thought I had eaten the best salad of my life... but Angel's got some competition.

Soho 33's pecan crusted salmon comes on a bed of arugula, tossed with mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, pecans, and an orange ginger vinaigrette.  The salmon itself is tender, somehow simultaneously buttery and sweet.  The arugula is tossed with just enough dressing to be flavorful without being goopy, and the flavor of the dressing complements the bite of the greens.

I came in with a crew of 13 or 14 people, after a day spent playing, teaching, and performing music.  The British out-of-towners opted for sweet potato fries along with their entrees - a $5 portion arrives in a bowl bigger than my head.  And despite the fact that the restaurant typically closes at 8 on Sundays, we didn't feel rushed at all as it hit 8:30 (it might help that we're a large group of repeat offenders).  Be sure to BYOB... or expect to swing by a shop just down the street for a bottle or two.

I have been dining at this establishment for the past 6 years.  Shall I say Soho 33 or So Slow 33?

    1)  The service/wait staff - Continues to be inattentive.  We like their Sunday brunch menu.  I'm not sure if 1-2 servers are sufficient for the volume they handle on a Sunday morning/afternoon.  I don't know where they go when they disappear in the back for a long time!   I've seen people walking out after being sat down with a menu (with no waitstaff coming to offer them a drink) a handful of times.  Where is the waitstaff?

    2)  The food - Glad that it continues to be tasty and good, but why does it take so long for it to come out?????

    3)  How come there seems to never be anybody at the front, hosting, greeting and seating customers?

For the past 6 years, I can count on two hands and two feet on the number of times before I wanted to walk out of this establishment.  On average, it takes about 10-20 minutes before the server will come and take your order and offer you something to drink.  I set my timer for last Sunday and clocked it at 18 minutes.  My limit for walking out is 20.

The food is what keeps me coming back.  The service and wait time is what keeps me from going back.

Good luck if you are starving and need your food fast!  Otherwise, enjoy and hopefully the wait is well worth it!  :)

    --------------------------------

Update:  3 stars because the food is good.  However, it would get 4 stars if the service and wait time as described previously weren't so lousy.

We have been frequenting Soho 33 this summer and have been pleasantly surprised at the consistency of the quality of food and service.  Marty, the owner, is friendly and on site each and every night. There is something for everyone on the menu and I have managed to try a good number of items. Walnut encrusted salmon is a big favorite, the salads are wonderful and pasta dishes are divine.  Water glasses and bread plate are always kept full. Try it you'll like it!

My husband and I ate at Soho 33 back in the fall and it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time.  I lived in the city so I was used to really good restaurants.  We read some reviews and thought this place would be good for Sunday morning brunch.  We were one of two tables in there and it took almost 30 minutes to get our food.   As we sat there waiting and waiting we tried to convince ourselves that it would be worthwhile.  Unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait for a plate of cold waffles, cold eggs and cold stale toast.  My husband was so hungry he couldn't wait any longer for his plate to be reheated.  I simply couldn't touch mine.  Who wants cold waffles when dining out?  We also ordered a latte that wasn't very good especially for what they were charging.  I tried a bite of his omelet and it wasn't good at all so I asked for a cancel on my order.  We left as soon as we could get the check which also took another 10 minutes, which is a long time in an empty restaurant.  It's a shame too because I was really looking forward to a nice brunch out on a rainy day.

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Based on the prior reviews I was skeptical. I figured I need to try it for myself since I have tried virtually all restaurants in the Madison Main st. area.  When we walked in the place was not busy (Sunday night). A couple of tables being served but otherwise quiet. The host must of thought we were idiots since he said and I quote "we don't serve alcohol here, we are a BYOB. Do you know what that means?" Umm, no a$$hole, please explain to us what that means? We just came to this country yesterday and have no clue...d*ck". Once the waitress came over, our bad experience went away. She was friendly, polite and prompt. We weren't too hungry so we skipped apps and went for a main course each. I had the CAPPELLINI WITH CHICKEN, SCALLIONS, MUSHROOMS AND A SAKE MADEIRA CREAM SAUCE...tremendous! I am not a fan of sundried tomatoes (which somehow they added in so I just picked them out). The cappellini was fresh, the sauce had so much flavor but not overwhelming. My friend had a salad which he really enjoyed. The prices were reasonable considering it's Madison and BYOB "whatever that means... =)". Their menu is limited which is a good/bad thing (not too much of a selection). Limited pasta dishes but I recommend the one I had. It's a great place to have a date as well with it's cozy, dimly lit atmosphere.

This is my absolutely favorite restaurant in Madison. The owner is Italian from Brooklyn and his wife is from Paris - I think that really affects the menu choices. He is a very sweet outgoing man who knows how to take care of his customers.  I've eaten there many times and brought guests on several occasions. Everything we've had has been outstanding - excellent presentation and sizable portions.  The appetizers are so good that sometimes we just go share several of those and it's enough. I highly recommend the Risotto - the best I've had anywhere.  The calamari is served with a spicy sweet and sour sauce on a bed of field greens - very nice. The spring rolls are light and not greasy - served with a sweet dipping sauce. Everything is freshly made. All of the pasta dishes are outstanding. I took one of my sons there for lunch and he ordered the Philly Cheese steak wrap - the best I've had ( though I only got one bite ) :-)  and even though the risotto was not on the lunch menu - when he saw that it was me, he had the chef prepare it for me  anyway. If I could give this place 6 stars I would - treat yourself and have dinner there you won't regret it.

Back around my old stomping grounds for a less than stellar reason.

We needed a place to grab a quick early dinner and my wife somehow came up with this place.  Good call!

The unsweetened, brewed in-house, ginger and peach iced tea is outstanding!  Great start!

For an appetizer we shared the crispy calamari salad.  It is served over mixed greens atop a very light and crunch shell.  It was perfectly dressed with a citrus vinaigrette.  It came with a garlic aioli which was tasted but truly unnecessary.  I would order this dish again in a heartbeat.

Wife's entree was tuna over ginger noodles with some kind of cucumber salad.  The waitress asked how she would like the tuna cooked and my wife said "very rare".  When it was arrived it was slightly overdone.  The only misstep of the night.  It was a generous portion of tuna and she seemed to enjoy the entire dish.

My main was a spicy crusted salmon served over a mango and jicama slaw and some cilantro mashed potatatoes.  I thought the salmon should have been spicier.  Not hotter..just spicier.  I did not each much of the potatoes but they were ethereal.  So light and flavorful.

    We passed on dessert.

Service was attentive but not overbearing.

It is absolutely worth the 60 minute car ride to dine at Soho 33.  Not only is this BYO jem located perfectly next to a liquor store, but the moment you walk in you feel welcomed.  The menu truly has something for everyone; calorie counters can devour the grilled chicken and portabella over mixed greens or they can splurge on the marinated pork tenderloin.  The professional guitarists add a whimsical yet romantic touch to this already cozy restaurant.  And whatever you do, save room for dessert because the most orgasmic chocolate cake is not to be missed. The restaurant was full to capacity but we were still given the 5 star treatment by the wait staff and host.  I am counting the days until I can return and try the yellow fin tuna and the cheese cake.

We had heard great reviews and were excited to dine here. First, the waiter informed of the specials, noting nothing else. I ordered and was told the item was no longer on the menu, then my bf ordered and he was told the item was no longer on the menu. We got our app that was to have prosciutto, we looked and looked to no avail.  We then asked our waiter and he said the new menu has the description without prosciutto!  Well hell, it would be nice to know what we are ordering when we order it.

My bf's tilapia and mashed potatoes were horrible.  He said the fish had no taste and we both thought his mashed where instant quality.  My food was okay, but definitely would not go here again.

Server was nice, but should have told what was available before we ordered, not while we were ordering and then in the other case, after we questioned the item.

I am still waiting to find an awesome rest. in Madison.

The crispy calamari salad is by far the best I have had on the east coast.  For the main meal I would have to recommend the Pan Seared Sea Scallops although I occasionally go with the yellowfin tuna which is also exceptional.  Make sure to save room for dessert, my girlfriend loves the "dark side of the moon" although I am not a chocolate fan myself.

I've been to Soho33 several times and have enjoyed each and every visit... recommending the place to others only to hear that they loved it as well.  The best part is that their dishes will please all eaters, even the picky ones who have joined me.  The service is great, the food is delicious, and the portions are ginormous.  Save room for some of their Focacia bread, it's better than any I've had growing up in Brooklyn..  and the desserts - they are huge and scrumptious.  It's rare to find a restaurant in which I have nothing but good things to say.

Nice restaurant on the main street in town.  Parking on the street, or in the back.  BYOB (liquor store next door).  Food is good; appearance is regular.  I have been there several times, and intend to continue going there.

Went here the other day for a business lunch.  Very small menu, which kind of bothered me.  I ordered the chicken with roasted peppers, etc and it was fantastic.  Some items didn't seem to fit the place, but overall decent.  I have been here for dinner a few times and from what I can remember others enjoyed their meals.

My friend and I randomly walked into this restaurant the other night, and we are SO glad that we did!  It looks low-key and maybe a bit plain from the outside...but the food...ohhhh the food was FABULOUS!  It's "comfort" food at it's best!!!

I had the fresh arugula salad w/ walnuts, roasted pears and this blue cheese dressing to-die-for.  I almost licked the plate.  My friend loved the the pasta special he ordered, which was shrimp, monkfish and linguine with a spicy, sweet sauce (don't remember the base).

We chatted w/ the friendly owner after the meal, and he was nice enough to send us off with free cakes/desserts to-go!  :)  I'm definitely coming back.  Very reasonable prices for the portions and it's BYOB, so remember to grab a bottle of wine from the liquor store next door!

Soho 33 is a nice little restaurant right on the main drag in Madison.  The Italian menu is smallish, but with many good options.  The specials are usually worth it -- the salads are particularly good, and usually involve fresh cheese and fruits.  The mushroom and asparagus risotto is highly recommended -- it's listed under appetizers, but when ordered with a salad, it's plenty for a main course.
