There's a lot to like about South. The good sized back patio (closes at 11), free popcorn (from a bag, not popped in house), a big international beer (bottle) list, a few large wooden booths, a small inexpensive food menu, and a very good selection of board games.
Beer prices weren't all that great, a good majority of the bottles were 7-8 (they did get as low as 4-5 on a few though) and the tap selection was very limited as well. I was bummed to see the back patio close so early but I understand the noise and neighbors don't exactly mix that well.
Very cool place. Â For such a tiny venue it has a nice beer selection. Â Staff is very friendly.
Probably the most laid back place I've been to in Brooklyn. Â I think this is the vibe some of the hipster places in Williamsburg aspire to, but fall short because they are insincere. Â
If we learned nothing else from "Bye, Bye Birdie", it was that you have to be honestly sincere*, and South is honestly sincere, even without a gold lame' jumpsuit.
