What a fantastic find. Â My friend and I stumbled upon this place after not being able to get into Apotheke, the speakeasy 2 doors down. Â A staircase that looks like it's going to a dingy basement storeroom or gambling den leads to the entrance. Besides the highlighting of the staircase there really isn't much to indicate that there is a restaurant/bar downstairs. Â If you're a fan of mob/gangster movies the entrance instantly gives off that allure of entering a hidden criminal underworld. Â At the bottom of the stairs there are two doors and one of them does lead to a storage type of room (there were stacks of garbage when I went). Â At this point doubt had overcome my sense of adventure and I was close to turning around when my friend, with a leave no-stone-unturned persistence, opens up a large service door, that I assumed must have been locked. Â Behind was a charming Mexican restaurant with that mysterious speakeasy ambience. Â The drinks, mostly tequila/agave based weren't on the level of most speakeasy's or cocktail lounges, but this place doesn't tout itself as that type of spot. Didn't try the food, but the journey of finding this place definitely satisfied my hunger for an adventurous drinking hole.
Review Source:So I really liked this place. And this review is long overdue considering my lover brought me here on Valentine's day almost a year ago.
Hidden from major foot traffic on a dingy Chinatown side street, this place surprisingly dishes out pretty awesome Mexican food and even better margaritas. My lover knows me quite well as Mexican food & margaritas are my favorite combo. And though I was hesitant considering I don't really like Chinatown I was totally impressed.
My skirt steak was amazing... Margaritas were made with care... And the decor is funky and inviting. Where am I?
Oh and they have a lounge/ bar with a DJ right next to the dining area... Cool to just walk right on over and shake your rump a bit. Downside? Place is a bit overpriced. But I loved this place-- awesome date spot.
