Mott Karaoke Lounge

I was worried that this place was closed when I brought a friend here for some after dinner karaoke, since no one has reviewed the lounge in a rather long time.

We sketchily went down the steps to the karaoke lounge with very low expectations. The door was labeled with "Sorry we are closed". But an Asian woman, around 30 years old, comes out asking us what we want. She didn't speak much English. We walked in (hoping that this day would not be our death day) and saw the lounge. I was appalled it was still open! It was cash only and we did not come prepared. Thankfully, right above the place, two steps away, was an ATM. We got 60$ in cash and trekked down again to the karaoke lounge.

The owners were incredibly welcoming. The place was completely empty and we were ready to get our sing on. They installed a new touchscreen remote to replace the old handheld remote system, and it is awesome! Very user friendly! I could never sort out how to use the handhelds anyway. (Hint: Single click selects. Click again to unselect.)

The selection also expanded tenfold. There was a substantial collection of Korean songs -- only mainstream though, you won't find classics and acoustic stuff here -- e.g. SNSD, DBSK, Ailee, Teen Top, Block B. The Chinese collection was, of course, extensive. The Japanese collection was around the same as the Korean collection -- e.g. Dir en Grey, Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro. And the English collection... The English collection was incredible. There was mainstream pop from the 90s, country, EDM, top 50. They had Faith Hill and 30 Seconds to Mars. 'Nuff said.

Again, they still had the same pricing of 40$ an hour for the room and food n drinks (40$ worth). We got two beers each and bubble tea. It's like a comedy show with a 40$ minimum but free use of the karaoke room, aka AWESOME.

Will I be back? Most definitely. Who needs Duet and Koreatown, when there is MOTT KARAOKE LOUNGE.

New Karaoke system installed this weekend !! 12/7/2012 !! New Songs!! Yay !!

Well, at least the  "music videos" they played along with the tunes were hilarious. Hip hop to footage of double wide trailers in the woods brought the lols.
