I was worried that this place was closed when I brought a friend here for some after dinner karaoke, since no one has reviewed the lounge in a rather long time.

We sketchily went down the steps to the karaoke lounge with very low expectations. The door was labeled with "Sorry we are closed". But an Asian woman, around 30 years old, comes out asking us what we want. She didn't speak much English. We walked in (hoping that this day would not be our death day) and saw the lounge. I was appalled it was still open! It was cash only and we did not come prepared. Thankfully, right above the place, two steps away, was an ATM. We got 60$ in cash and trekked down again to the karaoke lounge.

The owners were incredibly welcoming. The place was completely empty and we were ready to get our sing on. They installed a new touchscreen remote to replace the old handheld remote system, and it is awesome! Very user friendly! I could never sort out how to use the handhelds anyway. (Hint: Single click selects. Click again to unselect.)

The selection also expanded tenfold. There was a substantial collection of Korean songs -- only mainstream though, you won't find classics and acoustic stuff here -- e.g. SNSD, DBSK, Ailee, Teen Top, Block B. The Chinese collection was, of course, extensive. The Japanese collection was around the same as the Korean collection -- e.g. Dir en Grey, Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro. And the English collection... The English collection was incredible. There was mainstream pop from the 90s, country, EDM, top 50. They had Faith Hill and 30 Seconds to Mars. 'Nuff said.

Again, they still had the same pricing of 40$ an hour for the room and food n drinks (40$ worth). We got two beers each and bubble tea. It's like a comedy show with a 40$ minimum but free use of the karaoke room, aka AWESOME.

Will I be back? Most definitely. Who needs Duet and Koreatown, when there is MOTT KARAOKE LOUNGE.

Well, at least the  "music videos" they played along with the tunes were hilarious. Hip hop to footage of double wide trailers in the woods brought the lols.

A couple of friends and I decided to try our American Idol skills out after a night of eating at a nearby restaurant and it couldn't have been more fun!

The place was empty since it was a Thursday so we thought twice about staying in what seemed to be a dungeon in the underbelly of Chinatown. Nonetheless, we decided to give it a try once we were informed that it was only $40 per hour for a private room! At first we were just going in for the horrible noises we call singing but once we were informed that we also got complimentary drinks (that's what the $40 are for) we got some beer!
The song selection CAN be better but that night it was just what needed! Since we weren't really up for drinking, we each got 2 beers and sure enough, $40!

Mostdef a good spot to go to with friends who aren't karaoke-crazy!

$40/ hour for a room?  And we can fit 10 adults in???  AMAZING deal!  Sketchy-ass neighborhood & entrance?  I could really do without that part.  You have to climb down a flight of stairs into a basement-level area (really dark, barely lit) and then the entry room is really dark too with some music playing.

Their sound system isn't the best & their microphones are really dated.  We had to bug them 3 or 4 times to replace our microphone because it would keep dying out mid-song.  Song selection is so-so for the American songs, I don't really understand the Chinese ones.  They have two-years-ago Katy Perry selections, but none of the newer materials.

We came around 10:00pm on a Saturday night and were immediately seated.  Karaoke isn't the only form of entertainment here, the rooms also had dice games set up for your entertainment.  My guests and I are a singing crowd though so we belted our chords out for 2 hours.

I'd be really on the fence about returning just because of that creepy feeling I got when going down the stairs.

Their sound system is just OK, and the rooms are marginally acceptable.  They got a selection of English songs, good if you like to sing old 80s and some of your dad's rock and roll.   I got looped in with a bunch of friends from out of town and we ended up here on a rainy night.  It felt like a local gangsta joint with smoke.   We were charged with $40 per hour and you can use the monies to credit for food and drinks.  I must say the beef with noodles was really out of this world as well as the other food.   For dessert I got some hot grass jelly with, tapicoa, and some big beans that added a sandy texture.  This is something I would get in some old grandma's house in mainland China.  If I came back it would probably be more for the food.  My friends had to comment that the food was very good.  They get 4.5 stars on the food.   Its not the best karaoke place in the area.

More like 3.5 stars but I'll round up because I'm feeling nice.

Mott has a great selection of music and generally plays the real videos, but the sound system is kind of eh and the mics don't sound that great. On the plus side though, the food selection is awesome! Lots of drinks (non-alcoholic too) such as bubble teas and hot teas with honey and lemon (for the serious singers who want to preserve their voices hehe).

It was $40/room for the room in the back which could probably fit about 6 people comfortably, my group had 4. You can order food/drinks up to the amount of your room charge..so if you stayed an hour in my room you could get $40 worth of food and drink which is a good deal and definitely enough for dinner!

Be fore-warned that the entrance looks kind of sketchy and like you're descending down into the secret lair of a mob but it looks fine once you're inside =)

    PAT!
The Chinese man smirks as he takes our American $ once again...

This is a reference to the strange dice game "Bullshit" played here at the bar. It consists of both number guessing tricks and dice rolling tricks that both seem to defy logic and gravity.

The game is not called PAT- rather that refers to the Chinese version of Double the Bet, in other words, if you really really really think the other person is lying, you say PAT and simultaneoudly move you hand from the opposite shoulder down to the same knee.

The picuture i added was taken during such an occurence.

The staff here is friendly and welcoming to us obvious clueless non Asians

The small room for 2-4 people is about $40 an hour, which is a bit expensive given the room condition. The computerized song selection menu isn't greatly designed, and is not easy to go to your song directly, but once you get familiar, it seems to be ok. The microphone quality is so so, and the system is a bit old. But overall, it's an ok place to get friends sing together. (Btw, it's in a basement, so kind of a hidden place.)

This place is the shiiiiit! Plenty of English songs. Super cheap. There aren't any song books, it's all computerized, which is a bit annoying. But once you figure out their fucked up remote, you cool.

I come here because they have the BEST selection of Chinese songs with the ACTUAL videos. The price is average for karoake, and the location a little out of the way when you're going out on a Fri/Sat night, but if you like to sing Chinese karaoke then this place is worth it.

Just a warning - this place is pretty small, I'd say they probably have about  10 room and can fit no more than 8 people comfortable per room.

To judge the "karaoke boxes" in New York, one first has to lower the bar. One can never, ever compare them to the ones in Asia. I have to remember this.

Now, back to Mott, in general, it's all right. The selection of (Chinese) songs is acceptable. They seem to have some new songs. The rooms feel quite clean. Snacks are brought to you from next door (in styrofoam containers). You order as much food/drinks as you want so that you meet the minimum charge. The on-screen interface is ridiculously hard to navigate. It reminds me of... oh wait, nevermind, I said I wouldn't compare!

Scrape all your preconceived images of karaoke boxes (from Asia) before walking into Mott. That's all I'm saying.

English songs are pretty limited and usually ranges from the really popular 3 months ago titles.

Lots of Chinese songs, they basically update themselves with Chinese songs on a regular basis.

Pretty high tech, you can order and choose your songs all with a remote.

    Decor is high.

For the price you pay, food and drinks are complimentary.  The last time I counted, you can get around 5 complimentary beers for a hour, although Mott Karaoke requires that you use their rooms for a minimum of 2 hours.

But for drinks and even some snacks, the price is worth it....especially when you sing songs that are old....

Not a good selection of English songs as the song book is entirely listed by title not by artist, thus two stars.  In addition, Mott Karaoke Lounge's song books combines all English and Chinese songs into one book which makes it impossible to find anything.  The do not have all the current songs or uprising artists in the market such as The-Dream's " Rockin' That Thang" or Pleasure P's "Boyfriend Number 2."   Food is included in the package price before 9pm.  The food is okay although served fresh and hot.  The bubble teas are good as well.

They do have original music videos from the original artists as:  Edison Chen's "Hong Kong"; Ne-Yo's "So Sick"; and Rihanna's "Umbrella."  Some of the videos are blurred or very pixelated poor quality as Mott Karaoke Lounge operates on Windows 2000 platform.  The volume of music is inconsisent for every song where one constantly have to adjust the control for nearly every song.  There is only one mid-size TV in the room.  The coffee table and song books are in desperate need of a new make-over as they have both seen better days.

The bathrooms are uni-sex.  The staff thankfully speaks Cantonese and are very warm and welcoming.  Service was very attentive to our group's needs.  For a Sunday afternoon of three hours exercising our vocal chords it was $30.00 per hour.

My friends and I went here tonight and had a blast.  The service could be a bit more attentive but we were consumed by singing as much songs as we could anyway.

If you make it before 9PM, the food is included in the package price.  About 12 people karoaked their hearts out and in the end, we each paid $11.  I was in such a state of shock over how cheap this place was.

Just note: the room is a bit cramped and they forget your order sometimes so you have to keep reminding them.  Also, the song selection isn't great but it'll do.  Otherwise, the place was clean, including the bathrooms, and if I ever want to sing my heart out again, I'd go here compared to the highly expensive karoake bars in K-town.  You can't beat the price.

No hard liquor, limited song selection, $20 minimum

    2.5 stars rounded up

We (My gf, her friend, and I) came here after dinner at Vegetarian Dim Sum house. We can pick either this place or Galaxy, but I have been to Galaxy more times than I have fingers (and toes) to count, and I know that place looks kinda crappy (and my friend used to work there, but he quit and went to HK years ago).

So we came here, sat down at the open area in the front instead of the rooms because we didn't make any reservations. The first thing the waitress told us was that there is a $20 minimum per person charge. That kinda sucks, but most places do that Anyway, we wanted to get some mix drinks but then found out they don't have hard liquor. But they do have house special sake that they serve in margarita glass (Yeah, not real sake). They have green apple, mango, and passion fruit flavor. Its not very strong in alcohol, but plenty of sweetness w/ the Green Apple being the sweetest and the Passion Fruit being a little lighter and more alcohol taste. The mango is somewhere in between.

Then we got to picking the songs. As with most Chinese places. 95% of the songs are in Chinese, and no one picked a English song the whole entire 2+ hours that we were there. I really need to brush up my Chinese (or at least just remember the lyrics).

The service here is bare minimum. They hand you the mics when your song comes up. They spend more time arranging your songs in queue than actually servicing you, cuz they gotta deal w/ the ppl that reserved rooms. I think they can use one more person to help out.

We ordered 6 drinks, and 2 bottles of water. For some miraculous reasons, it came out to exactly $60. We had one drink left that we didn't finish. Have you ever had the feeling something was going to happen and you didn't do anything about it? Well, I knew that last drink was a little too close to the edge of the table, and I would probably knock it over when I was getting out. Yet, for some unknown reason, I didn't bother to move the glass closer to the center of the table, so I ended up knocking it down and it smashed to tiny pieces when it hit the ground. Oops. Oh well. At least they didn't charge me for the glass.

    Unless I'm reserving a room, I don't think I will come back.

P.S. Another reason why I won't come back: There sound system is so loud that we were literally screaming to hear our own voice when singing.

    The food sucked.

The music selection was typically Chinese (the most current song they have was With You by Chris Brown).

But $20 for 2 and a half hours of karaoke with alcohol and food included? You can't beat the price!

Went here for my bday b/c I had dinner at Angel Thai and didn't feel like taking the train to 34th st to sing. It's your standard Chinese K place.  I don't care that it smells, looks dirty or it's small....whateverrrrrr! I had fun singing off key and playing dice in that small room.  I might not have noticed anything else that was bad about it b/c I was drunk off my mind. The only bad thing I know is they don't serve mixed girly drinks, just beer. So this review may be very biased. I like my cranberry vodkas and fuzzy navels :(   It would've been 4 stars if they served them

Its just another typical chinese karaoke place, but I agree with some of you mention below that between Galaxy and this one.. I would say this one is newer, the music selection is BETTER, stereo system is BETTER. I do think they have less rooms. so you might want to make reservations in advance.

Mainly, chinese songs(HK, Taiwan, China) not very good selection of english songs.

Once again just another chinese karaoke place. nothing too special.. nothing too bad

This is a good place for the Chinese ka-la-oh-ke'ers.  They have the most up-to-date songs from HK, China, and Taiwan.  Unfortunately, all other languages are somewhat dated (or missing altogether).  They serve food and drinks (beer, wine and sake only), and they have a big karaoke bar and a few private rooms.  My group of 10 had a generously-sized private room, sang for about 2.5 hours, drank a bit, and the total tab including tip was only about 20$/person.  Not too shabby.

But I still prefer Japas with their all-you-can-drink and huge food platters.

I don't care about the karaoke. I don't care about the attempt at sleek and modern design. I don't care that it's kinda bright. I don't care that they don't have overpriced drinks. I don't care that there's no taxidermy on the walls.

With the original Sweet Paradise gone, this is the next best place that I've found to drop every notion of being cool and... play liar's dice. (If anyone knows any other spots, do tell...)

I do care that they only have a beer and wine license though. Doing shots of real liquor instead of beer would make playing dice that much more fun.
