What drew me here initially was the possibility of the live jazz that they host from time to time. Unfortunately, tonight was not one of those nights. No matter, we were still in the mood for a nightcap.

The Speakeasy has an extensive selection of liquors, though not much in terms of beer. I settled for a black porter. Somehow, it was both light and chocolatey at the same time. Excellent choice.

My wife, however, was not so lucky. She ordered a glass of draught framboise. This is a drink (and brand) that we've both had numerous times before, but something was off about it this time around. It tasted watered down, and had absolutely no fizz to it. Maybe it went flat from age.

This place was nearly empty when we arrived at 9:00, perhaps because it was Memorial Day, but who knows. It looks like The Speakeasy could be a fun place if it had been more lively and had fresh kegs.

If I lived in Eureka I would actually live inside this bar.

Jazz + chill atmosphere + drinks = my kinda place.

This said, the bartender we had makes one hell of a watered down martini. It looked real big but it tasted practically like water. So we had one unhappy drinker in our mix but I stuck to my usual gin on the rocks and was not disappointed ($7 for Henricks on the rocks with a twist).

If you're looking for a bar to kick it at one night, this would be my first (and most likely my only) stop in town.

Coming up from San Francisco for the holidays we found this cozy little craft cocktail bar tucked away in downtown Eureka to be really friendly, comfortable, cozy, and casual. It has the perfect mix of dive and cocktail bar. This is the 'must do' for any future trips to Eureka.

If you are in Eureka and are over 21, you NEED to check this place out! The atmosphere is amazing! They have live music most days of the week. The drinks are on the pricey side, but they give you a huge cup so you are good with one possibly two. My girlfriends and I had an amazing night out. I have gone about 5 times now, and each time I have enjoyed myself. The drinks are sooo good and you get to see them mix it all up right in front of you, so fun! They add so many delicious ingredients!

Anyone who visits Eureka should come here - though you may end up not going anywhere else!

My wife and I found this place by chance on a foggy night where all we could see was a green illuminated sign in a small alley.

The waitress we had was really knowledgeable about the history of the town, cute, and filled us in on things as she made our drinks. It seemed like a real local type of spot as well as some neighbors dogs would wonder in to say hi from time to time and the passing vagrants outside would stop to pick up trash outside and offer to sell jokes or magic tricks for 50 cents.

I felt like I was in some storybook while at this place and out of the real world.

Overpriced watery drinks, a faux "Big City" feel, provincial snoots.

The speak easy is chill. The drinks are average sized and priced too high to get proper tossed, though I have done this here.. The bartenders are helpful and friendly for the most part. The best thing this place has going for it is the decor.. I dig the castle style stone wall with the candles inside of it.. makes me feel like I am getting shitty in a monastery... My favorite part of the entire Establishment is the bathroom wall art.. By far the best bathroom wall art I have ever lain eyes upon. I especially dig the ladies room.

Brought some friends in that were visiting from out of town.  The place was packed & there was live music.  The atmosphere was festive, the people were all upbeat, and the bartender literally handed me beers when we walked in.  Nice job!

We stopped in on a Friday night around 10, and the place was busy enough to feel good but not horrible crowded. Drinks were delicious, bartenders were great and the live band was wonderful. I only wish Speakeasy was around the corner from my house!

Stiff drinks, a classy atmosphere, date-worthy mood lighting, fine service, great decor, beautifully kept restrooms. The Opera Alley location is cool -- just "off-the-strip" enough to make you feel hip for knowing where it is.

It's a small space with limited seating; I've only once or twice been able to comfortably sit at the bar. On Arts Alive (or most weekend nights) you'll probably be standing, but the packed-like-sardines thing just adds to the vibe.

Drinks aren't outrageously priced, yet you can go all out and get designer cocktails if you want. Lots of beer choices, too.

The place is new and so are the bartenders. But in my opinion they seem to be trying very hard to be professional and get it right. True, the place has limited seating but to me that's the charm. Very tastefully done, great selection of liquor from top shelf to well and more than anything quiet and charming.  Sure, you can spend $13 on a fancy martini but you can also get a no-measure filled to the brim Maker's Mark manhattan made to order for $6.

Great new spot. Unpretentious space with a great array of choices, mixed and straight. There were many people there but the noise level was perfect for conversation. No drunks. Nice folks. We'll be back. TV was not on, a huge plus!!!

Went to Speakeasy for a gathering of a large group of friends last night and had a great time.  Even though I had wine, I was able to taste a number of the mixed drinks.  I wished I had started with a martini.  They were huge and served well with a fine layer of ice on crystals top.  The service was good, far better than what I had read about.  I asked about why the bartender had to read all the recipes and she said the owner insisted on it for consistency.  We'll definitely be back.
