**AMAZING**
-Best Indian food I've ever had.
-I don't eat dairy and the kitchen was 100% accommodating. Gar even had them make me a special dish that used Coconut Milk on the house just to try. It was delicious.
-The service, food, and price are excellent. I suggest this restaurant to anyone!
This is our favorite Indian restaurant. The environment is relaxing and authentic (even the music) with a low key, relaxing atmosphere. You can request "custom" orders of dishes (e.g. dairy free variations), and their garlic nan is amazing!! Their food is delicious, where it seems the ingredients they use are high quality. We typically get the tandoori mahi-mahi and the chicken marsala/curry. Yum!!
Review Source:I have been here several times with friends. Â This is an excellent restaurant. Â I have not tasted anything I haven't loved. Â I usually order vegetarian and each selection has been outstanding. Â My friends order meat dishes and they rave.
Perhaps most important of all, the service is really outstanding. Â Servers are thoughtful and attentive and the owner frequently checks in with diners with grace and generosity. Â They anticipate your needs, the hallmark of excellent service.
The restaurant is kept clean and nicely presented. Can't wait for our next trip!
This place has a wide selection of vegetarian options at one of the lowest Indian buffet rates in town. The table service was great, with fresh naan being brought out directly to the tables (we were able to take home the leftover naan!). The spicy onion chutney, a unique dish I hadn't seen at other Indian buffets, was a great accompaniment to the already flavorful dishes. Definite do-over.
Review Source:Phenomenal!
First - the food beats any Indian restaurant I've ate at in the Denver area. It's always been fresh and flavorful. And the kitchen is very willing to make your dish just how you'd like it (as spicy as it gets), so I always ask.
Second - the service is excellent. Every time I've been, the owners have stopped by and checked in. That's impressive.
Third - it's very affordable.
Have yet to find somewhere better!
I've recently become a huge fan of Indian food. This place happens to be a hop skip and jump from my house so I made my way over there for their lunch buffet.
Not only was the food good but the service was fantastic ! All the employees made sure we had everything we needed and we didn't have any questions. The price of the lunch buffet is so affordable. I definitely will be coming back here whenever I crave Indian food!
Holy Moly. If you don't come here for lunch you are seriously doing yourself a disservice. For starters, the Lunch Buffet here is $8.99, among the cheaper buffets in town. Â But let's put price aside, (WAT?!) Because honestly, that's not the reason you should come here.
It's out of the way of most of the area, since it's on the far side of Parker road, nearer to I-225 located in a shopping center with a Dollar General and an Arc. Lunch is usually fairly quiet, no more than about 15-20 people in there at a time, but very much a steady stream of people. Â If you're on this side of town, it's worth a stopover for lunch though.
Onward towards what really matters on these reviews, the FOOD. Oh my my my my my my my MY. I really am not sure where to start here, because the food does NOT taste like it was in a buffet. My favorite probably has to be the Massaman that is here. It's absolutely savory, and creamy that just begs to be put over rice and scarfed down. Add a little bit of their freshly made chutney, and your mouth won't believe what is going on. (My mouth is actually watering writing this...) The massaman though is not the only star of the show on here, because they also have your dal and curries, all of them just delightful. Â And the pakora they make are just impossible to put down. I try not to eat too many, but I find myself sneaking more than a few onto my plate, (and a few into my pockets to take home as well). Â
I have a minor gripe, and that is there is not spicy dishes on the buffet. Occasionally there might be one, but it's rare. I understand why they do that though; because while not all Indian dishes are spicy, some of them can ratchet up the level to damn near infernal levels, which may not be acceptable to those who do not have a penchant for consuming hell fire, like I do. Â That being said, I do wish the Chicken Tikka had a bit of heat to it. (Probably because growing up my neighbor always made hers spicy in her house, and that's what I'm used to) however, it still does not take away from the flavour that is still in the chicken. Minor to be sure. Let's focus instead on the awesome fresh naan that they send out by the basketful while you're eating, and just keep refilling. (If you can ask for the one with garlic and butter! nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom)
The owner is very friendly here, and it looks like most the family is involved. If you're feeling something different, drive on across town and brave the Hamden avenue traffic. (I dare you) and check this place out. You won't be disappointed.
Denver Culinary World Trip : Stop #5 (India)
I was working with a friend who asks "Do you like Indian Food?". I went like "Hell yeah". We yelped and the closest place for an Indian lunch buffet was Star of India. They had a few vegetarian options and few options for the meat eaters. The food, for the most part was bland. I don't mean that the food was not spicy, the food didn't even taste like proper indian food. The bread wasn't warm or fresh (like its supposed to be, from the oven).
The tables were not clean and the wait staff took forever to clear out the dirty dishes from the table.
Why do you give it two stars, you may ask. My friend and I decided to order masala chai (tea with indian spices) and boy, was it amazing. One extra star just for the chai. I do not think I will be going back there again for food.
Great place for chicken tikka, marsala and everything Indian food. Â Garlic Naan rice damn good stuff! Â Food is fresh and the owner knows my name after coming in off and on. Â They're a nice family run business that takes pride in their product. Â Lunch Buffet is good deal especially if you're really hungry!
Review Source:This place has the BEST buffet deal for only 9 bucs!
Really good healthy Indian food at it's finest!
Definitely go for it and bring the whole family it's so affordable you can do that.
The people that own it must be so generous to cut deals like that, take advantage and thank them on they way out.
My boyfriend and I were craving Indian food, yelp helped us find this place. Â I'm very glad it did as the food was excellent. We were seated right away and the owner came right over to greet us. Â He provided suggestions to help us make our decision on the food. He even brought a small sample of a dish we did not order, just in case we wanted to order it next time. The only negative I would give is, we asked for our food to be spicy and there was only a hint of spice in the dish. However even without the spice the food was great. Â
Now this is making me want Indian food again just thinking about it!
Best things: chicken wings, which tonight had no wings at all but 5 legs that were delicious, moist, spicy--a meal in itself even just one order. Also liked their version of chicken ticca with red and green peppers. Pappadums and chutneys were fine. Washed it down with Taj Majal beer.
Worst things: Chicken masala was odd. Very small serving with gravy like rich sauce. Servers were kind of pushy to order more food. The place looks old and could use a remodel.
Overall, I would come back for the "wings" and a beer, maybe some pappadums and naan on the side.
We were in the mood for Indian food and this restaurant is close to our house, so we gave it a try. We were seated immediately and our server was friendly and made several suggestions from the menu for us. All of our food came out delicious. We all ordered "medium" for the spice level and it was just right. We ordered the bread basket to try several types of naan. We'll probably stick to the plain naan next time, as that was our favorite.
The only negative was that it was incredibly stuffy and hot inside the restaurant. Granted, it was a hot day outside and maybe their cooling system wasn't activated yet for the year. But it was uncomfortable.
We were in the area and I was using my mobile Yelp application to look for a place for dinner. Â I came across this place and thought, Indian sounds really yummy right now. Â Sam never tried Indian food so a little convincing was in order, he agreed and off we went.
The place is in a strip mall, don't let that scare you away, some really great restaurants are in strip malls. Â We entered and the place is a lot bigger than what I thought from the outside. Â The place was a little on the quiet side, it was a Sunday evening though. Â There was a Birthday party being set up in the back room which looked nice. Â We were immediately greeted and sat in a booth. Â
Our waiter was absolutely fantastic! Â Once I told him that Sam was new to the whole Indian food experience, he was very helpful with recommendations, how it worked and what meat went best with what sauce.
We decided on:
Garlic Naan - Very tasty, just enough garlic
Chicken Vindloo - Huge pieces of chicken with potato's, I loved it
Lamb Korma - Sam loved this dish. Â He had the surprised look on his face of "Wow, this is great and I didn't expect it". Â I love that the Korma has coconut milk in it.
Basmati Rice - Great compliment to both the dishes and helped to scoop up the sauce with the naan bread.
This was a top notch dinner for us and the food had great flavor and spice. Â You can pick your spicy level, we both went with medium which was just right. Â I think if we went hot it would've been too much. Â
If we're in the area again I would definitely stop in. Â The lunch buffet sounds nice, maybe I'll have to plan a trip. Â :)
We went here for dinner on a Saturday night, and everything my group had was delicious -- good wine, good samosas, great entrees and fabulous naan. (Although is there such a thing as bad naan?)
The service was very good, although it did take quite a long time for our entrees to arrive. The decor and atmosphere are a little lacking, so while I'd absolutely go back, I wouldn't say that Star of India is a great place for a first date or a special occasion.
I am a super fan now. We went back again since the food was so amazing. The manager and the wait staff both commented on the last time we were there and that there would be no cilantro on our food this time. (I'm allergic, not deathly but it makes me ill).
We had the same dishes that we had last time, Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Tikka Tandori. I had my masala medium and my partner had his tandori HOT. Once again tears of joy. I think I could drink masala sauce, I kept dipping my naan into it. It makes you weak how good it was. We also ordered tarka daal? Lentils. I wasnt a huge fan. They arent bad, and since I had never had them before. I think I will stick to my pea and potato thingy I got last time. We might try paneer next time too.
This fatty recommends this place!
By far, this has been my worst experience with Indian food in Denver.
Today i went to this restaurant for lunch buffet.None of the dishes had any taste. Absolutely none. There are 3 dishes which almost any Indian restaurant excels in - chicken tandoori, butter chicken and saag. Even these were below par in this place.
Pakodas were not fried properly.
Chicken in butter chicken looked like it just visited gravy for a second.
Tandoori chicken - some pieces were burned to oblivion, some were not tandoor-ed at all.
On top of this the customer service was indifferent. I asked for a cutlery, they pointed out to the place where they were kept.
Only items which tasted a little ok were the desserts. But it is nothing to write home about.
To add insult to injury, this food caused me stomach problems. When an Indian can get problems from eating this Indian food, i don't know what to call this.
Avoid this like plague.
Tried this place out one Saturday for lunch buffet due to good Yelp reviews. Â This place isn't bad by any means, but there are just SO MANY Indian buffet options... this just doesn't make my list.
Let's start with the good. Â The taste of their food is pretty good. Â They have this beef meatball dish, I must've had around 6 of them. Â Naan bread is pretty decent too. Â Nice and buttery, not too burnt or dry. Â
Now, the not so good. Â I was looking forward to the 25+ items like they said on their website. Â I didn't actually did a count but there were only 3 meat option. Â Chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, and meatball. Â That was a bit disappointing. Â Call me greedy but I like varieties in my buffet for me to stuff myself stupid. Â I didn't have any drinks but my bf ordered and chai and he said it's sub-par. Â And the following little story is what dropped them from a 3 star to a 2 for me. Â
Their service had been pretty decent to this point, water and chai was refilled, dirty plates were taken away.  Nothing much to complain about.  We ran out of naan bread so we asked for more.  Well we waited for about 15 minutes, nothing.  Finally someone came by and  asked if we've gotten our naan yet and we said no.  So she went back to the back and came back with some about 5 more minutes later.  And by more, I meant 2 quarters of it.  It's like going to a Chinese restaurant and they're cheap out on white rice for you.  AND after a longer wait nonetheless.  Yes, to spell it out for you, they lost 1 star from me because of 2 pieces of naan bread (on top of the wait). Â
Like I said, this place isn't bad, just isn't great. Â I'd recommend driving the extra 3 miles and go down to Indian Oven down by Sunflower Market on Yale and Colorado instead for a satisfying Indian buffet.
There's a lot of great Indian places in Denver Metro, and Star of India is right up there with the others.
I've been there a few times for there lunch buffet and love it every time.
I'm not going to get into the specific dishes, I'm just going to say that if you enjoy Indian food everything they offer here will satisfy you.
Servers where polite and they brought out free desert for my large party as well, which was a great finishing touch to our meal.
Full bar, even a few Indian beers.
A twinkling diamond in Aurora, Star of India will give you mouthful after mouthful of Punjabi pleasure.
Start with Paneer Pakora - fried fritters of soft, squishy, creamy white cheese. Or, if you must have your Bloomin' Onion fix in an Indian restaurant, why not sample the more low-key, but tastier, variant known as the Onion Bhaji (hugely popular in the United Kingdom!)
From there, progress to one of their sumptuous main courses. Choose from chicken, lamb, shrimp or fish dappled with any number of sauces (creamy Korma! bellpeppery Bhuna! spinachy Saag! volcanic Vindaloo! EEP!). Or try one of their vegetarian delights, with soft smoky eggplant (Bharta Makhani), bouncily verdant peas (Mutter Paneer) or meltingly tender potatoes and cauliflower (Aloo Gobhi). With the huge dish of moist rice served alongside, you're ready to go!
Then, while you're still in that stripmall, head to the Bengali grocery called Ananda Bazaar and check out their cornucopia of spices, sweets and sundries. Maybe the charming owner's adorable son will tell you about his favorite cookies too!
Fir milaan ge.
Great Indian food....
Everything we have had here has been well done. Â The buffet is generally good...a little inconsistent - but great value. Â We like going during non-buffet hours and have taken many others with us there...they were equally impressed. Â We appreciate the good service and the staff and owner are very nice and come over and say hi each time we are there. Â The food here is just really well done. Â Star of India is an enjoyable experience every visit.
Food was just ok. Went to the restaurant after reading the reviews on yelp and food was nowhere near the 4 star avg. given by the other users. The rice served with the entree was stale. The portions were very small for the price they are charging. We ordered lamb saag + Â Chicken Tikka Masala and the lamb was too hard. And there was no northern punjabi flavor in the food. I found out later that the cook is Nepali.
NOTE: Most of the reviews are by Americans and they don't know what real authentic north Indian food is. Hands down India's Pearl on Pearl street is the best & most authentic Indian food I have had in Denver. When it comes to my Indian food, Â I don't compromise. Period.
A cautious 5 stars because it's been a spell since my last visit to Star of India, however, every visit ever has resulted in the best Indian food around (in my non-expert opinion).
I first discovered Star on a snowy winter night some... oh, three years ago? Â Three and a half? Â I was a vegan at the time, but upon hearing this the owner said it was no problem to make the Bhartha Makhani (eggplant curry) sans cream/ghee. Â He was almost excited to tell us about how his mother (who helps with all the cooking--or at least did at that point in time) had been a long-time vegetarian and was very accommodating to such requests. Â While I could not try the Naan at that time, visits since (no longer vegan) have yielded two thumbs up (especially yum is the garlic Naan). Â I have also had the saag without dairy, and actually prefer it this way as it's not as heavy overall and the spices aren't muted out by the cream. Â
I have dined in during dinner hours, and also during their daily lunch buffet. Â The food never disappoints and I've never left a lunch buffet feeling anything less than stuffed to the rafters (oops). Â The Kheer (Indian rice pudding) and Mango custard that is offered on the buffet is out of this world. Â Also, on Wednesday nights they have an entirely vegetarian buffet for $11.95--well worth the price for a sampling of some of the best vegetarian fare to be had. Â You can also get the buffet to-go and on my one visit to do so, I was told by the owner, "You should have packed that box a little more full!". Â And truly, I should have ;)
Also, from a few meat eaters' points of views, their meat dishes are quite tasty from what I've heard. Â It seems with first-time diners they always push the chicken Korma on, but (again from word of mouth), I hear it's a good place to start. Â I used to frequent Star more often when I lived in Aurora; now... not so much. Â But as it is right off I-225, it is relatively easy enough to get to via the major highways through Denver. Â Writing this review has me pining, however, so a point must be made to get there again some time soon.
Get thee to a ...NAAN-ery!
Tried their lunch buffet. What's with the beef meatballs? OK, now that the beef issue off my chest, on to the review.
Star of India is in  strip mall in Aurora near Parker & Dartmouth, about a 1/2 mile south of I-225. It is a nice storefront restaurant with plenty of seating. The buffet is a long line in the front section of the restaurant. All the usual Indian suspects are there. I will say that I prefer India's Tandoori Chicken, by a slight margin.
There was a good range of vegetarian and meat dishes, with an assortment of chutneys and condiments available. I tried most of the dishes, and found them to excellent. The Dal and curried chicken were quite tasty.
At the table, fresh Nan is delivered. I also had a cup of chai. Service was efficient, with finished plates removed while I hunted the buffet for new items.
Once again, I was blessed with the fortune of eating at an excellent restaurant. Everything was friggin awesome here and for extremely low prices. Much like your first visit to Disneyland, this place offers a magical experience. The said "magic" doesn't come from the ambiance, or a great  location, it comes from the damn excellent Indian food, and fantastic customer service.
Stay awesome Star of India, and don't change a thing.
Minnie k's review here drove me to drop in this last gem for tonight. Â I love Star of India and will miss it when I relocate to the NW Quadrant next month.
The owner is very cool and always offers me a small glass of mango lassi if I am getting a take-out order. Â Heaven, is thy holy drink Mango Lassi? Â If not, it should be. *soooooooooooooo* yummy. Â perfect sweetness, perfect texture -- for me, anyways...
The naan is fresh, soft and warm/hot as naan should be. Â Their garlic naan in particular has fresh garlic and cilantto which tastes so yummy, it does to me what a raw, dripping steak does to a vicious, starved doberman. Â They have about 8 different kinds of naan bread here, the alu naan is also quite delicious with smushed up potatoes and peas, and I've also had the kabuli naan with cashew nuts and raisins which was very unique and scrumptious as well -- if a bit off the standard naan path.
Yes, Virginia, there is a website for this bit of Indian nirvana - <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.starofindiadenver.com&s=30ab1027244837ad65e11915961be51e916b33a4b85fe7367adf7aed36af1b35" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.starofindiade…</a> is the place.
I have had many dishes there: the vegetable korma, aloo mutter, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, butter lamb...the list goes on. Â They have a balanced carnivore and vegetarian menu - the meat choices are lamb, chicken, chicken tikka shrimp and fish. Â Then you can combine it with any sauce they have there (counts menu -- that'd be 9) for unique fare. Â One outstanding choice they have available is their tandoori shrimp. Â The menu says it is "jumbo prawns" -- and they are NOT lying. Â These monsters are as big as an 8-10 yr old's fist. Â Seared to perfection and then served with a tasty melange of onions and bell peppers. Â I didn't think it was possible to find mutant prawns in the Denver area...but they are here and waiting for you if you're a shrimp lover.
The decor is very pretty and adds to the illusion of escape from the every day. Â If you are lucky they can seat you in one of the back room areas where (at least 1-2 years ago) you can sit down on big cushions and devour your tasty viands, all to the wafting Indian music being played over the sound system.
They have the standard stock beers available here as well as tasty Indian ones too. Â And you may need one if you order your food spicy here. Â Food can be spiced anywhere from "just a smidge" to "set my mouth on fire".
I have not had the lunch buffet here but I understand it is extremely tasty and has a wide variety of items, although it is a bit pricey. Â Wednesday night they have a special vegetarian buffet for those who want to sample various vegetarian delights instead of being locked down to just 1 (or whatever your dining partners will let you sample).
This place seriously rocks - it's a true gem amongst the coal of its neighboring stores in a strip mall (an ARC or Goodwill store (I forget which) and a cool Indian grocery which boarded up a few years back). Â I like India's, Little India, Bombay Clay Oven and others, but this place trumps those slightly. Â Enjoy if you go here -- and check out at least a small glass of lassi! Â Yummmmmmmmmmm. =)
I love Indian food, and this is one of my favorite places.  The Mulligatawny Soup is hella good.  Sweet and savory at the same time.  I usually get the  Makhani Curry w/ chicken & shrimp. Â
Oh, and don't forget the Naan!! Â The plain or the Keema naan (I'm not a big fan of lamb, but the keema is really good) are the best.
I've been to 3 indian restaurants thus far, looking for the best. So far, this place has struck my fancy. Â One thing I've noticed, is the curry "butter chicken/seafood" Â out here in denver. Â In SF, there are countless indian restuarants and the tikka masala is different. Â It's creamier and buttery.... and everytime I've ordered tikka masala, it comes out much more tangy than I've expected. But when I order Butter curry, it tastes like the tikka masala I'm used to. Â Is this an americanized version? Â There's no butter dish in sf.. so just wondering if anyone noticed this?
Anyways, back to my review, lol.. Â Star of India's decor is on the fancier side which is nice since I'm used to littly sh**** hole-in-the-walls. Â The service is on point and the naan is made right. Â Their signature egglplant dish is really yummy as well as their butter dishes. Â Had it both with prawns and fish. HUGE portions. Â Not what I was expecting at all. Â They have a fully stocked bar, which is nice. Â SF indian restaurants usually never have beer (unless you're going to an expensive americanized establishment which is far and few between) let alone a fully stocked liquor cabinet. NOT complaining;) Â Â
I dine here alone pretty often and it's never intimidating.  I have yet to try their sag  dishes and want to try the $8.95 all-you-can-eat buffet soon.  See so many happy people.  Thumbs-up!
I have been to this area to shop regularly with Sean. Â Little did I know, there is this restaurant name Star Of India which provide Indian buffet. Â I went yesterday with 15 other friends to enjoy the buffet there.
With good company, awesome conversations, indeed I have a blast enjoying the menu spread that they offer here at Star of India. Â Man, I am not disappoint. Â The friendly and helpful staffs are willing to accommodate to our needs. Â Plenty of hot food with cheap price what can I ask for more. Â They make sure our drinks are being filled regularly and ask if we want any other food or drinks not in the buffet menu. Â
I heard during Wednesday evenings they provide ALL Vegetarian Buffet.
I should come here during Dinner time and see how things go. Â I will bring Sean along to try other food from the menu that they have. Â Do check it out if you are not into the buffet.
