Stay away from this place!!!!!  Having grown up in the restaurant business since I was 9 yrs old then working my way through college waiting tables,  I know how to run a restaurant.  The dude that runs this place is a total you know what.  It started with a great experience with one of the workers but when I had to deal with the Alpha Male (I can only assume he is the owner) boss man, it was all down hill from there.  There  are too many things to list of 'what went wrong' but do yourself a favor and do not give this place your business. - Robert
Review Source:Great bagels and my favorite flagels.
The bagels are always fresh, mostly warm and always delicious. Plus they have black and white cookies that my kids love. Â Good mix of cream cheese, great nova as well as other deli meats. Â Oscar is fantastic and always greets everyone with a smile. Â Why would anyone go anyplace else? Â .....Except of course for coffee as there is a Starbucks across the street. Â I guess I would say that with the bagel and Starbucks combo makes this the best breakfast intersection in the area.
Would like to give it zero stars. Bad bagels, but it's conveniently located on the right side of the street as I travel north to work. Had been going in there fairly regularly with no issue. Staff is fine, but I will never set foot in the place again. Here's the petty story, but it speaks volumes about customer service. Oscar is in the wrong business. I ordered "the smallest" size tub of half cream cheese and half tofu spread and made a little hand gesture, an OK sign, to show I meant the smallest size, the 1/4 pound or half pound -- or whatever it its. This is not rocket science here. Â He misunderstood and made up one pound container of cream cheese and one pound container of tofu spread. I did not yell or get agitated, I just said, "oh, I meant the smallest tub." He got all upset and held up the small tub and said "this is the smallest tub" and I said, "yeah, that's what I asked for." You woulda thought I commented on his sexuality or something and he started cursing and putting ME down. Now, why on earth would I want two pounds of spread for two bagels and if he were confused, he shoulda asked. Instead, he lost a customer and won't get to use his unique sense of customer service on anyone else I know, since the word from my mouth is AVOID. No one needs to pay money to be insulted over really nothing, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Shoulda walked out, but paid, left, and the anger on my part built. Not the way to run a biz. And the system for ordering is chaotic and takes forever. Imagine how he treats the staff. Then there was the time the staff bought coffee at Starbucks and brought it in the front door to show everyone. This guy is a wing nut. It's all incredibly inconsequential, but for whatever it's worth, Â I am boycotting for life and happy to have yelp to share the experience and also glad to see I am not the only one treated rudely.
Review Source:...Turns out the grass is always greener on the other side. Well....slightly. I litterally had a bagel from Sun Shine Bagels, looked disappointment in the eyes, then walked over to Stars Bagels and placed the same exact order to compare the two. I still can't believe how close these two competing bagel places are to each other! It's really a "Sophie's Choice" of bagels once you get to this area.
My order of an everything bagel with jalapeno cream cheese tasted much better than the same order at Sun Shine Bagels. Although they were a little stingy on the toppings, the overall bagel quality had more of a freshness than the "frozen" style bagels that its nearby competitor had. Over $3.00 was pretty pricy for an ok bagel and cream cheese, but I still can't fathom why the other place is getting better reviews. I guess a more computer friendly clientle and people with dulled taste buds is the norm over there. This place beat the other shop in so many ways: Bagel quality. An actual bathroom for patron use. Plenty of seating. They even offered homemade oatmeal. I read the reviews about the rude owner and service but I didn't see it. Wasn't busy enough,I guess.
If you get to this area of Ardsley and your option is between an okay joint versus a terrible joint, I think the answer is pretty clear. Either walk across the street to the Starbucks or come here to get the only edible bagel in these parts.
I've been going to Stars long before I saw the bad Yelp reviews. Some people have complained about Oscar, but he's always very, very nice when I'm in there. He's polite, courteous, has a sense of humor and makes sure you get what you ask for.
I never get anything too fancy as I usually stop in on my way to work for some breakfast. The bagels are always good and the cream cheese selection is fairly large. I've also had several breakfast sandwiches which are also very good.
I've only had one bad service experience (my food took longer than normal), but the server helping me apologized for the wait.
Overall Stars isn't a bad place, and it's unfortunate so many Yelpers have had a bad experience.
Good bagels...that's whet gives it one star. What stops it from getting any other stars is the nasty as hell owner Oscar. My wife and I get bagels and the like from here often and when we have friends over for brunch that is where we go No more.
This morning we met some friends for a quick breakfast, we ordered at the counter and since the coffee is self serve, I told him at the counter that we are getting two large coffees. So after we get our food, eat, and as we are leaving one of the employees comes up to us and says "you didn't pay for the coffees." I looked at my wife and said, I did, right? She says I heard you tell him that you were getting two coffees. Now if I wasn't charged for something, I have no problem paying for it but then enter Oscar, the ever gruff owner. Anyway, I told him that if I didn't pay for it, I wanted to take care of it and he insisted loudly that I didn't tell him. Again i insisted, I did tell him and I didn't mind paying him. He loudly exclaimed, I didn't tell him. Ok, I come from the school of the customer is always right in most cases but if the customer says he is going to pay for it just say thanks, must have been a misunderstanding. But no, he just got loud and angry. Game over. I paid and left.
I have seen him get in other customers faces before. Once a customer complained that the cream cheese was sour and perhaps turning and he practically bit her head off and scared the small child that was with her. I just chalked it up to being a very busy day. But seeing that kind of behavior over and over, I'm done, we will never go there again. He just sucks. There are many other decent bagel places that would like a regular customers.
We only ordered a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and chives. It was good and not too expensive. It's hard to mess up a bagel I know. But I have high hopes for this place. I plan on going back due to all the yummy stuff I saw! Egg salad, dill cucumbers, seasoned chicken and a pretty big variety of cream cheeses!
