Having been a long time diner at the former Shell Station, I was happy to finally get to the totally redone restaurant. The decor is much updated (and it needed it), but the eating tables are much more crammed and claustrophobic due to the ginormous bar that was added. I suppose alcohol is much more profitable.
On the last 2 occasions, I just got appetizers - love the mussels. They were very good. I called on Wed. eve to get a reservation for Friday, knowing they might be crowded before the Square One show down the street. They were already closed so I left a message with my request and asked that they call me to confirm. Thursday came and nearly went until I decided to call back. A very confused sounding person said, "I got you covered." No apology for failing to return my call.
When I came for the 6:30 reservation, with 1 1/2 hours allotted for dinner before the show, they were running late. Still, there should have been plenty of time, except that we sat for 25 minutes without anyone coming over to serve us. Yet the table for 4 next to us, who sat down 15 minutes after us, was already getting food when I asked the bartender to please send someone over.
We ordered, then waited quite a long time for our soup. By then, we had to rush our entree out, shove it down and leave for the show. Not the best way to enjoy a meal.
When I told the owner on the way out, his response was inappropriate for the situation. Something about that he should be better at this.
To it's credit, the food I have had there to date has been good, but the whole pre-dining and dining experience leaves a lot to be desired.
I enjoyed the food at the station house but I am not happy about them trying to rip off their customers. I paid the check with a credit card but paid the tip in cash. When I got my credit card bill I noticed the charge was higher than I remember it being. Luckily I saved my receipt and saw that it didn't match. When I called the restaurant I spoke to the owner who when found the receipt saw that where I had written 'cash' for tip was crossed out and a tip had been written in by the server. Instead of being apologetic or even upset that his servers were ripping off his customers, he was rude and annoyed with me. For this reason I will never be back to the station house.
Review Source:Ill start off by saying I love the bar setting right next to the train it is a great bar, but the sushi wasn't that impressive for the price. I asked the bar tender what kind of sushi comes in the sushi dinner on the menu and she said, "whatever he wants to put in it" pointing to the chef.
Review Source:If you recall the Shell Station, this is what's left of it. Â The decor is very nice. Â It's comfortable and casual and it has nice lighting and wood accents. Â There is a decent wine selection and the sushi chef from the Shell Station is still here so the sushi is still excellent. Â I've tried most things on the menu. Â For Apps i like the Mac 7 Cheese, Cheese Platter, Thai Shrimp and Frickle (fried pickle). Â For the meal I like the Chicken Marsala, Salmon, NY Strip or Eggplant Parmesan. Â Usually I'm going with the Sushi, though. Â The Millenium Dragon, Rainbow, Spider Roll or Shrimp Tempura rolls are usually my choice but I try the specials pretty often as well. Â This is a great late night spot to watch the sports wrap-up and unwind. Â It's a nice place to meet people off the train and it has a decent kids menu. Â There are salads for people who like them and often you can find something for dessert if you're in the mood for that. Â I've only had good experiences here and would not hesitate to recommend it.
Review Source:Nice little place. At first I was like, wait....we are going to the train station to a bar that has sushi also? Then, that sort of sounded exciting.
The station house is a great little place with nice drinks, a good staff, and delicious food. And yes, fresh sushi. One thing I love about this place is the wine selection. Excellent selection and the bottle prices are really great. The other is the staff-everyone is friendly and professional. The prices are decent, and its an interesting little find in Stratford. Would recommend.
I love finishing my commute and being able to grab a drink and some dinner at this spot post-work. The food isn't super exciting or creative, but it's well prepared and delicious. Â I usually get something from the sushi bar, which is always fantastic. Â I love the chalkboard $20 wine specials as well.
Review Source:I have enjoyed both lunch and dinner at this restaurant on several occasions. I loved the Shell Station, but felt it was dated. The Station House's updated interior creates a great ambiance and the food is wonderfully eclectic. Great idea to allow for alfresco in the summer, by the way.
The sushi bar is the same as when it was the Shell Station, and still great. The fried pickles on the appetizer menu are awesome....
This is disappointing. Â I live and work in Stratford and went to the Shell Station for YEARS and loved it. Â
The food at this new place is not good. I've been 3 times to give it more of a chance. Â When it was the Shell Station I ate sushi there many times and loved it and noticed they still have the same sushi chef so I assume the sushi is still good.
This review is only for the main menu. Â I ordered the fried mozzarella which I had to send back. Â I also ordered the clam chowder which was decent but not as good as the old recipe or perhaps someone different was making it that day. Â On another outing there I ordered the steak sandwich which was just okay.
The new decor is really lovely and the location is fantastic. Â Sad to say I don't think those two things will keep this restaurant going. Â I may go back in a few months--hoping they will figure this out and change chefs.
Wow! What a find. This place is under new ownership and they have done an impeccable job with the design and menu. The food features cuisine from many styles. There's even a sushi bar! I was there for Mother's Day, which was a special menu. I had stuffed pork and polenta as an appetizer. Both were excellent. The desserts (flourless chocolate cake, yum) and wine specials ($20?!?!) are also of note. I also stopped by for drinks on a Friday and there was awesome live music (acoustic guitar).
Review Source:Ehh this place is alright. First time me and a coworker went there for lunch it was slow. But we thought it was just slow because we took a little while to order. The second time we ordered as soon as we could and were still there for an hour! The sushi was alright - a little warm a mushy, not as cold and crisp as other places. It wasn't the waitresses fault for the late sushi, the guy making it took his time (~40 minutes to make sushi for 3 people), a well done burger came out at least 15 minutes before ours. Then we were trying to get out quickly to go back to work and she took a little while longer with our check. Also did not ask to refill ice tea when sucking the bottom, maybe she thought 1 was enough when it took 10 minutes in the beginning to bring it to the table.
On a positive note: The guy at our table with the burger said the meat was excellent. I'm sure the rest of the food from the kitchen was delicious - and prompt!
I will not be returning - need to find another sushi place near Stratford!
I am late with this review as I was there the weekend after Valentine's Day.
Just to be clear, I am talking about the place that is literally inside the train station, not the little place across the street.
I absolutely adore this restaurant.  I have eaten a lot of sushi and even I found something I have never had before.  The Lemon Splash Roll.  I have not stopped thinking about it since that night. I have to go back.  It was amazing.  Little paper thin slices of lemon and salmon atop spicy tuna....oh lord.
I have to admit that most of the reason that I loved it was the person I was with. Â Even he was able to drown out the incredibly loud Frank Sinatra wannabe that was singing that night.
I love that this place is open late on Sunday nights, as well.
Something for everyone...not just sushi.
Stratford was in need of a sushi place and the Station House Bar, Grill and Sushi Bar delivers. This restaurant is right inside the train station, next to the little morning breakfast and coffee place. The best part is that they have restaurant reserved parking! The inside was quite impressive they have several large flat screen TVs with a comfortable atmosphere. I had sushi while my boyfriend had a wrap off the grill both were really good. The menu offered people a lot of variety and I was impressed with the selection for fresh sushi options. Â All in all I would defiantly recommend this place to anyone in the area.
