Swung by on a Monday in the afternoon to catch the baseball game. Place was empty. Bartender was very nice. $4 a pint. Chill spot. They've got plenty of room and about 4 pool tables with several TVs strategically placed about. Seems like it could get a little packed on usual bar-heavy nights but during the day it is quite mellow.
Review Source:It really depends on when you come in here if it's going to be good or not. I prefer the crowd during the day opposed to the "Hey let's get trashed and play a lot of annoying music" crowd that comes in on weekends. During the day you'll see fisherman, working class people, normal people just there to have a drink and watch sports.
Review Source:We visited Eureka and came to this bar and loved it. Â The bartender was super friendly and chatted with us extensively. Â We played pool later with another pub patron and she was quite nice. Â I can't remember how much drinks were (boyfriend paid) but I'm sure it was well worth it. Â :-) Â He had a local IPA and I had a Great White. Â Yum!
Review Source:The weekend/day bartenders are excellent, I like it when my bartender sees that I haven't drank my drink and comes over to ask how I like it, with concern. A lot of different types of people makes it fun and entertaining, just remember you are in ufreaka! I just wished they sold some kind of bar food, nachos etc.
Review Source:Steve and Dave's or "STD's" (as it's affectionately called) is one of THE bars to hit up in Eureka. Why? Because the drinks are cheap, the bartenders are cool, and it's Humboldt County. Just how many places can you hit up in this place with a population of ~134,000 countywide?
It's also an entertaining place to observe. I love to people watch and ear hustle... can't help it, it's in my nature. I've seen the most entertaining scenes unfold before my very eyes. For instance, last night was St. Patrick's Day and almost two fights broke out at the bar. I felt like I was in the middle of a hollywood bar fight scene or high school. Except my high school had more "gangsta" chicks about to engage in a hair pulling contest over her man, talking ish, or a drug deal gone bad. One time some chick's hair was lit on fire, another fight had the chick's tube top flying. Don't wear a tube top to a fight and certainly not to a bar or fists won't be the only things that go flying.
It's also entertaining to watch the men hitting on all the pretty ladies. One dude was totally scheming on some chick. Then his girlfriend comes into the bar and high-larity ensues. Gf gets all upset, dude tries to calm gf down. Throughout that time he's still trying to hit on the other girl. Real smooth, dude. I was really hoping for someone's drink to be thrown in someone's face, but it just wasn't that kind of night.
I can't wait to get another drink, pull up a chair at the bar, and watch the entertainment that is "Weekends in Humboldt County."
This place is okay. Â One time I was there and saw a line of ants on the table. Â But being a bar, I didn't expect it to be spotless. Â But it was still kinda gross. Â The mixed drinks are good, but they don't sell pitchers so that makes it really expensive when its my turn to buy a round. But all in all, the staff is nice and the drinks are good.
Review Source:Wow. Can't believe Steve and Dave's doesn't have more ratings. This is by far the best bar in Eureka- clean, good atmosphere, great for people watching, plenty of room, a really good mix of age groups, and (most importantly) good drinks that are reasonably priced. It is a little out of the way (take a right when you see The Shanty and you should end up there if I remember correctly), but it is downtown and definitely a local favorite. If you are looking for a good time with some friends this is the spot to visit.
Review Source:I'd like Steve and Dave's better if the clientele didn't suck so much. The bartenders are awesome and very courteous, prompt etc. but the clientele! Gah! Growers from SoHum, and nothing but drunk rednecks. Every time I've gone here (only because my friends didn't want to go to the Shanty) I've had a bunch of drunk morons in camo try and pick a fight with my guy friends over the pool table that we had first. The average S&D patron wears Ed Hardy T's and watches Jersey Shore... 'Nuff said.
